Very Important AN at the end and that is why this is so short as it is as far as we got.
"Wow Hiccup, that's really awful. You know that's not going to happen though, right?" Ragnar said as he made to hug his brother. Hiccup, however, turned away from the embrace.
"Hiccup, look at me. That's not going to happen." Ragnar said, hugging the teen anyways.
"But what if it does? Our line of work is so dangerous that we never know when we might be killed."
"I understand that more than anyone. But if that's all we go around thinking about we will never make it through anything." Ragnar said, causing Hiccup looked over at him.
"But there's no guarantee that we're going to make it out of anything alive! Have you ever thought about that Ragnar, really thought about it? We could die tomorrow!" Came the response, Hiccup now looking fiercely scared.
"We could have died yesterday, or the day before that. Heck, we could even die at this very instant if that's the way you want to look at it.
Biting his lip, Hiccup choked out "I don't want to look at it. But it's there. I...i…."
"What?" Ragnar asked, lowering his tone.
"I dream about this stuff all the time."
Silence hung between the two for a moment.
"I get it. I used to have dreams about Erik's and my Mothers deaths all the time, hell I still do sometimes. That is just something that only time and the support of family will heal
"For some reason, this feels different. It's like I just know something horrible is going to happen."
Ragnar shifted so he was closer to Hiccup and put his arm around him. "It's not, little brother. It's not…" he whispered so quietly that only Hiccup could hear him over the crackling of the fire. The two sat in companionable silence as they stared at the flames which seemed to drift up into the stars, into eternity. Eventually, the both of them fell asleep on each other, warmed by the fire and each others body heat.
The next morning the dragons arose at sunrise. They looked at each other, and then at the boys, who were still sleeping by the fire. Hiccup rested his head on Ragnar's arm and appeared to be using it as a pillow as the two laid there side by side.
"Do you think we should wake them?" Toothless asked, wanting to get a morning flight in.
"No, they both were up late talking about their fears and nightmares. Let them sleep a bit longer." Wraith responded as he leapt off the sea stack and into the air, planning on catching enough fish to feed the four of them breakfast.
'Oh Hiccup,' Toothless thought as he laid back down to await Wraith and some breakfast. It didn't take long for the Night Fury to find enough fish to feed himself and Toothless before grabbing some fish for their riders.
Hey there everybody,
It is with a heavy heart that I have to report I am changing the status of this story. No longer is it on temporary hiatus but instead now indefinite hiatus. Things have gone on for too long with no progress and real-life events have seemed to conspire to torpedo this story. I am sorry that it took me so long to get around to letting ya'll know. "For The Deaf and The Telepath" is still on temporary hiatus and I am slowly working on it. Thank you to everybody who left a follow, favorite, or review on "Moving On", but it is now time to move on. If you would like to know where we were going, drop me a PM and I will let you know. See everybody next time!
Semper Fi,
