47It's been 5 years since Rory moved to Palo A lot and things couldn't be any better between her and Logan. They have 2 kids a boy and a girl, Rory is expecting their 3rd in a couple months.
To keep up appearances Rory has gone to a few events and has maintained contact with Richard since there conversation years ago.
When Rory and Logan were in Stars Hollow visiting with their daughter and Rory was pregnant with their second, Richard ran into them unexpectedly and was very surprised. He was invited to supper that night and they both explained everything. Richard was a little hurt but understood the situation well. He is now a part of their lives on a regular basis. Emily is still in the dark about everything and so are the Huntzbergers.
Richard has been talking to Rory about being the Gilmore Heiress, he understands she won't be taking over the company but will still have a hand in it. She said that she was already the Hayden Heiress and that it was working out well, she's not running the company but is still involved.
Once Emily found out she wanted it to be a big party, but Rory was not too keen on it. She and Logan talked about it and he said if she wanted and was ready to out them as a family he would be too. They decide to wait until Rory had the baby for the party to take place.
6 months after Rory gave birth, they started talking about the party and also talked with their kids to inform them of the changes happening and who they will be meeting.
In 2 weeks the whole family will be heading out to Hartford for the heiress announcement party. They decided to come up a week earlier to spend some time with Lorelai, Luke, Chris, Francine and Lane.
A couple days before the announcement, the whole family is heading over to Richard and Emily's for dinner. This will be the first time Emily will be meeting all her grandkids and the first time Richard will be meeting the new baby in person, other than video calls. They have no idea how Emily will react but hopefully she will not use any language in front of the kids.
"So, kids you get to see grandpa again and meet grandma Emily. Please behave ok, this is a big night for mommy and daddy." Rory said to her kids
They are just about to ring the door bell when Richard opens the door.
"Oh My, and who is this little cutie?" Richard asks finally meeting his new granddaughter
"This is Camila!" Rory said introducing her newest daughter to Richard
Richard goes to grab Camila and then right as he got a good grip on her, Emily came to the door and was shocked at who was there.
"Rory! What a surprise, what do we have here? Logan? Rory who are these children?" Emily asked
"Why don't we all go to the living room and have a chat?" Richard said guiding everyone to the living room
Emily pulls Rory into Richard's office and blasts her.
"What on earth is all this Rory? Logan, children? It is like you have a whole different life then what you told!" Emily yelled
"Well grandma, yes we hid everything because we wanted a normal, no society life – wedding included!" Rory said
"I work with Logan at his company and everyone thinks we work well together. Yes, we have kept in touch with grandpa because he understood. While we knew the moment that we got back together and announced we were engaged, you would have put everything into planning something we didn't want. We wanted our kids to have a normal life and not have family duties. We've been happier than ever, I'm sorry we kept this all from you but you aren't the only one who we kept this from. We kept it from almost everyone except grandpa, Mom and Luke. The Huntzbergers are in for a treat when they find out, I really am sorry grandma, but we needed time and space to be us and grow." Rory said
"I see how it is, you're just like your mother. Here I thought you would actually do us and the family name proud but nope, when it was convenient for you, you just up and left." Emily said and was just about to leave the room when Rory stopped her
"Hold on a minute grandma, that was really just unfair what you just said! I sorta get how things were done in your time, but society is changing and it doesn't have to be the same as you grew up. Today everyone is all about their careers first and then marriage and family later on. A good percentage of people now a days are getting married and having kids later in life, but that shouldn't have any negative effects from your generation just because the world is evolving and slowly women are taking on more high profile jobs. I can't name anyone who is actually staying home and planning parties for their significant other, that is just a thing of the past. We don't want or need the gossip or the society life of attending an event every weekend and hiring nannies to look after the kids. We love our kids and love spending time with them and watching them grow. Yes, we have friends that will babysit so we can have a date night, or will drop the kids off with mom if we need a week vacation but that is the extent of that. No nannies, no butlers etc. We love our life with the kids in California. With everything that you said tonight, I'm tempted to call off the announcement, because if that is really what you think of me and my family then, I will not deal with the rest of "it" and we will just head home and let you deal with the fall out and explain it was your actions and comments that led to it being cancelled!" Rory said and walked out to the living room
"Hey grandpa, I'm sorry but we are going to take off, we would love if you came by the house for a visit, but obviously grandma has some ideas and issues with my life and family and I won't sit here and take it." Rory said while Logan got up and started getting the kids ready to go
"I'm sorry Rory, was what she said really that bad? I'm sure she is just shocked from everything." Richard said
"Oh grandpa, it was so insulting I can't believe it came out of her mouth. We can talk about it when you come to visit." Rory said
"Oh dear, well then just let me know when and I'll drive over and we can talk." Richard said
"Sounds good, night grandpa." Rory said
