The next morning Maka, Soul, and Angela were sitting at an outside cafe eating a breakfast of eggs, hash browns, orange juice, and jellied toast when Natsu and Lucy came by searching for a place to get breakfast for everyone and spotted the two DWMA students.
"Oh, look Natsu." Lucy stopped their morning stroll to point at the couple who were eating and helping Angela from making too big of a mess, "It's Soul and Maka, with a cute little girl. I wonder who she is. Oh my gosh Natsu what if they're adopting the girl?" Lucy started to bounce at that thought of the two of them giving a poor, unfortunate, young girl a home to live in and to be loved in.
"Well, why not go over and introduce us?" Natsu started to tug the blonde towards the trio. Once he dragged himself and his companion across the street, he announced their presence to the three with a huge, "Hello!"
Gaining a startle out of the two older ones and a laugh of joy out of the younger one Natsu grinned while Lucy stood next to him and gave them each a proper greeting.
Maka placed a hand over her heart in an in temp to hold herself back from strangling the pinkette that her brother for some reason called a best friend. "Hey, guys, what's up? Where's your blue, flying, talking cat?" Soul looked around thinking that said cat was just hiding.
"He slept in this morning, and I would be too if someone had dragged me out insisting that we get food for everyone," Natsu answered both of Soul's question while giving Lucy a very pouty look, as if he was upset with the fact that either of them were awake this early in the morning and not cuddling in bed together. "The two of us are trying to find a place that will take the big and strange order that we have when we saw you and this little cutie," Natus bent down and ruffled Angela's hair causing her to giggle before he stood back up to continue to talk to Maka and Soul, "When we thought, when did Soul and Maka get a kid?"
Soul and Maka chuckled a bit before Lucy quickly caught on, the three leaving Natsu in the dark as Maka offered the two to join their little breakfast. Quickly accepting and ordering their own breakfast, but not the whole order, the pair sat down.
"I do have some questions about the whole soul connection thing," Lucy asked well into the meal, bringing Maka's and Soul's attention away from Angela and towards the female mage.
"We'll try to answer any questions you have, the two of us are training to become teachers at the school as well." Maka supplied for the blonde, carefully watching the pinkette that was making Angela laugh and not finish her breakfast like she's supposed to.
"Really?" Lucy leaned forward at this information, also glancing at Natsu to make sure he doesn't rope the young girl into doing anything stupid with him. "What position?"
"Well there will be the DWMA curriculum, which we will have a homeroom class that we teach the basics of soul theory as well as soul resonation and battle techniques to, and that's just at the beginning of the day." Soul started the answer with what Maka and Stein had drilled into his brain. "The second half of the day, or after lunch hour, I go teach Music to students while Maka teaches English to other students." Soul stopped to while he looked up to the sky in thought. "Maka basically will see and meet every single student at the DWMA while I'll only get to see and meet the ones that have an interest in learning Music." Soul looked over to Maka with a slight twinge of jealousy, but it quickly faded away as he realized that Maka was going to stay up late at night grading papers while he, Soul Eater, could go to sleep at a reasonable time each night.
No longer did Soul have any jealousy for the ash-blonde girl at his side.
Lucy nodded along as she absorbed the information, loving the feeling of her brain retaining this information. "So, you two will be teaching together in a single class?"
"Yes, while there are topics just one of us could go on forever about, it's better if the students learn from the both of us," Maka answered this time leaving Soul to eat and watch Natsu. "Plus, it will help the students to see the different effects that the Soul Resonance has on either the weapon or the miester or even the pair as a whole."
"Oh, so there are different effects on you two with that connecting thing?"
"Okay, it's called Soul Resonance." Soul had to take this one. "When you first connect your soul with someone, really that's just opening up and knowing the in's and outs of that person. Knowing what they're about to do before they do it. That's a soul connection. Soul Resonance is when you literally feel their soul and their emotions, and if it's a high enough resonance able to talk to each other when the two of you are not in the same room as each other."
"Another thing is that Soul Resonance is often considered a very intimate action," Maka spoke up and held her hand over her chest as if to reach in and pull out her own to soul to demonstrate. "Because it's skipping the soul connection and going straight to basically knowing everything about each other. That's why the DWMA supports partners to live with each other because even after the Resonance the duo can still spend the time to try and establish the connection."
"Is that how you two got together?" Lucy couldn't help herself and start to stack the dishes that the three of them had finished eating, while they continued to wait for their two childish companions.
Maka snorted and shook her head. "No," Soul sighed and looked lovingly at his miester. "We officially became a couple about a year or so after the moon turned black. We both have suffered from nightmares since The Crona Incident. But they only got worse after the moon turned black. By this time, I have been running off of about three hours of sleep for the past week. I know unhealthy." Maka was cut off by Soul.
"So I had just walked out of my room at like midnight, wanting to get to the kitchen so I can guzzle more caffeine in an in temp to stay awake when I came out I was not expecting Maka to be sitting in front of our living room window crying while she tried to get out words about how she loved a guy but she doesn't want to ruin anything, and how she just wished that Crona was still here so she could help her. Well, instantly I thought it was Kidd that she loved, but then I thought it didn't matter because my miester was crying and all that mattered was getting her to not cry anymore. So, I walked over, shut the blinds, picked her up and carried her to our couch where I just held her as she cried. The next morning, we found ourselves cuddling on the couch, but no nightmares. I couldn't stand it any longer and told her how I felt, and then told her that my feelings don't matter in the long run, what mattered was her obtaining happiness with whoever she wishes, just as long as we stayed partners." Soul was cut off by Maka.
"I kissed him, right then and there in the living room. It was, and always will be, my favorite kiss. No matter how terrible it was." The three laughed at that and finally turned to Angela and Natsu, in time to witness him pretending to struggle against Angela in an arm-wrestling match. "The two of us have been taking it slow for three years, going at the pace that is right for us. Not caring what the rest of the world thought, just caring that it just the two of us, in love." Maka looked at Soul, just as he was looking at her. The two shared a smile, a smile that Lucy swore transcended time, leaned in and shared a brief but loving kiss.
Lucy watched them and wondered if she and Natsu would ever get to that stage where they just love each other fully and without worrying. "Could you two teach us?" Lucy didn't even realize that she had spoken until the couple stopped looking at each other and looked at Lucy in confusion. "Could you two teach us Fairy Tail members to have a Soul Resonance with one another?"
