For many starfleet officers, beaming to a planet (or back to the ship, to an allied ship, to an ennemy ship, to a station, to a base, to this big party you-really-shouldn't-miss) was something rather common. They got used to it. Only the newbies or aliens not-disposing-yet-of-this-system-or-something-similar felt anything special toward it! Fear of the Unknow. Wonder at this Miracle of Technology. More rarely, contempt over an outdated or unneeded system from an advanced specy.

But then, we're speaking of the Enterprise, here. No one should expect the Enterprise inhabitants to react like normal people.

The beaming system was, by far, the part of the enterprise that both awed and frightened the Enterprise's crew the most. (Well, after the medical bay, but it did not count. Not with Doctor McCoy on board. Only the captain and commander dared to defy him... And not with complete impunity at that.) But the beaming system, the beaming system of the enterprise was...Special. More so that any other in the universe. The origine of many, many peculiar incidents that made the legend of the Enterprise -the only reason for most of the crew to still accept to use it being the fact that those accidents tended to center around the captain, the commander and, occasionally, the rest of the bridge crew...

But they knew that, on the Enterprise, the beaming system sometimes...
