The Real Love Story of Beacon Hills

I still don't own Teen Wolf

Chapter Twelve: The Tell part two

After Arissa and his dad left for the parent teacher night, Stiles sat and stared at Lydia's phone. He debated what to do. Scott wasn't calling him back. He can't keep the phone forever. This video could fall into the wrong hands. Stiles watched the video again and still was unsure what to do.

He slammed the phone down and whispered, "Where the hell are you Scott?"

After another hour of debating it with himself he finally picked up Lydia's phone. Watched the video one last time and clicked delete. When the 'Are You Sure?' message popped up, Stiles hesitated, but eventually clicked yes. It was done. The video was gone. Stiles was annoyed that Scott was none the wiser about the whole situation.

As if knowing he was in distress, he got a call from Arissa.

"Hey!" she said as he picked up.

"Hi what's up? Is the Parent Teacher thing done?" he asked.

"Nope. I think it just started actually. But your dad stopped at the animal clinic. He had to ask Deaton some questions." she told her boyfriend.

Stiles then asked, "What kind of questions?"

"I don't know, probably along the lines of do you know of a creature that can do this. People say mountain lion, but it doesn't add up. Your dad is smart, he might not know what is happening, but he knows something is happening." She told him.

"Yeah. I just hope he doesn't find out. I don't want him to be in danger. It's bad enough you're in danger." he said.

"Don't worry I am perfectly safe. And even if something happens to me, and I said IF so don't panic, then at least I was helping protect those I love." she said.

"I am not gonna let it come to that." he said resolutely.

"Alright… this conversation will just go in circles of you protecting me and me protecting you so why don't we just say… we will protect each other from whatever comes our way. Agreed?" she said.

"Agreed." He replied.

"Did you get in touch with Scott?" she asked.

"No. But don't worry I deleted the video." he said.

Arissa could hear the doubt in her boyfriend's voice, so she quickly put him to ease, "Good! That's a relief. I would have hated if anyone got a hold of that. You did the right thing. If Scott bothered to answer his phone, he would say the same thing."

"Thanks." he smiled.

"Of course!" she said as she smiled.

Arissa looked over in time to see Mr. Stilinski approaching the car and told Stiles, "Alright your dad is coming back. I'll let you know when I am done with the parent teacher night and headed back home."

"Alright. I love you." He said.

Arissa smiled and said, "I love you too."

Arissa sat in front of Mr. Harris as he kept asking questions, "Where are your parents? It's a parent teacher conference. If I wanted to tell you how you were doing in school, I would tell you in class."

"My parents were unavailable." she said, which was not necessarily a lie.

He glared, "Very well, honestly I couldn't care less."

Every single meeting was like this, each one somehow getting worse and worse. Finally, she just had one more.

"Hello Coach" she said as she entered.

Coach Finstock looked up and furrowed his brows, "Ms. Valentine. What are you doing here?"

"Parents couldn't make it; I am here instead." she said.

He didn't seem to be that upset about it, "Alright sit down, now as you know you are incredibly smart. However, you get distracted far too much. Stilinski and you are always up to something and it has impacted your grades on occasion."

"Well if you are telling me to spend less time with my boyfriend then no. However, I will try to study more for your class. I know it's one of the only ones I seem to have an issue in conceptually." she said.

"That's understandable. A lot of people are confused with economics. It is a vast and confusing subject. I just want to help you get the basics." he said.

"Alright. Thank you, coach." she smiled.

He grinned back, "Course! And tell Stilinski to just… stop."

"Stop what?" Arissa asked with a chuckle.

"Just to stop." he said.

She nodded, "Will do."

She left Coaches office and was heading out to the parking lot when she ran into Mr. Stilinski.

"Hi Sheriff!" she grinned.

He chuckled, "Hi, you done with your conferences?"

"Yep!" she smiled.

As they entered the parking lot, Arissa noticed a car pull in. It was Allison's car and in the passenger seat was none other than Scott.

"Hey Sheriff, I am gonna talk to Scott really quick, can I meet you in the car?" she asked.

"Of course!" he said and walked off.

Getting annoyed that he blew Stiles and herself off for rendezvous with Allison and she started walking towards the car. However, they got out of the car and walked in the opposite direction, toward their parents. Arissa kept walking, determined to give Scott a piece of her mind.

As she was closing in on him a scream rang out through the parking lot.

Arissa froze. People started running everywhere. Nothing could be heard but yells, screams, and shouts. Every once in a while, you could hear a low but thunderous growl. There was a mountain lion in the parking lot.

People raced to their cars and were trying to drive away. Arissa started running back to where she was, to where Mr. Stilinski was. As she neared where their car was parked, she saw him running with his gun out behind a vehicle. However, the car was about to reverse out. He was about to get hit! She saw Scott a little further past the car, but he didn't move, they locked eyes for a split second but then his attention went towards something else, someone else.

Without even thinking she bolted over and shoved him out of the way taking the hit instead. She was flung a few feet back and her head hit the pavement hard.

"Arissa!" Sheriff Stilinski shouted.

He came over to her and held her as she was holding her arm. He took note of the blood coming from her head and arm.

"We gotta stand up sweetheart. It could attack." he said softly.

But when she stood, she gasped in pain when she put weight on her leg. She collapsed into Sheriff Stilinski who just held her and set her back on the ground. His gun was still drawn and his eyes were flickering everywhere.

Finally, a shot rang out, but it wasn't from the Sheriff's gun. He had to investigate but didn't want to leave Arissa.

"Go. I-I'm fine." she said.

He left once another woman came over and watched over Arissa for him. Apparently, Chris Argent fired the shot that killed the mountain lion. Once the situation was squared away, he raced back to Arissa. There was a paramedic with her already, one that she was fighting with.

"I don't need help. I am fine." she insisted.

"Now you listen here, you let them take care of you okay?" he said to her.

"Yes sir." she mumbled weakly.

As they were getting into the ambulance, he realized he should call Stiles. He took out his phone and pressed the speed dial.

"Hey daddy-o! What's up? You guys on your way back?" he asked cheerfully.

Stilinski sighed, "Stiles listen, I want you to know that everyone is fine I am fine and Arissa is fine."

Stiles was silent before asking, "What happened?"

"A mountain lion attacked the school and Chris Argent shot it." he said.

"And?" his son asked, knowing there was something else.

"While I was running around the parking lot, I didn't see a car that was reversing and-" Stilinski started but was cut off.

"Oh my god. Dad are you okay? Are you hurt?" he asked.

Stilinski sighed and looked at the girl on the stretcher being put into the ambulance.

The Sheriff took a deep breath and said calmly and as soothingly as possible, "I am okay. Because Arissa pushed me out of the way. She was hit. Bumped her head pretty bad on impact. She didn't lose consciousness though. She was holding her arm and she couldn't put pressure on one of her legs. We are about to go to the hospital to have her get checked out. She's being loaded into an ambulance. Son I want you to know that she is okay. A few bumps and scratches, possibly a broken bone but other than that, I think she is okay."

Stiles was completely silent. His mind raced. She pushed him out of the way… she was hit… hit her head… holding arm… hurt her leg… hospital… ambulance… air… breathe… can't.

"Son?" Sheriff Stilinski asked over the phone.

He started to hear wheezing and he knew instantly that he was having a panic attack.

"Hey, hey, Stiles. Stiles! Listen to my voice son. Okay? She is alright, I am with her. You need to calm yourself. You need to breathe. She wouldn't want you to be like this. She needs you Stiles. She needs you to be strong. Even if she is alright, she will need you. You need to overcome this. Think about her and beat it!" The Sheriff talked sternly into the phone, relaxing only as the wheezing subsided.

"Good. Now, I need to get in the ambulance with her. Once you have caught your breath, meet us at the hospital." Stilinski said.

"Thanks dad." Stiles mumbled.

"Anytime son." he said back.

At the hospital, Arissa was admitted immediately due to the fiasco at the school. When she was done filling out her paperwork, she handed it off to the Sheriff to give to whoever needed it. However, he stopped short when he glanced down at it.

"Hon." he said.

"Yes?" she asked, already suspecting.

"You don't have any insurance listed, or an in case of emergency contact." he said.

She shrugged, "I don't have insurance, but it's okay I have money put away. I can pay for this. As for the contact… I guess either you or Stiles. Can I put both?"

"Um… yes you can. Don't you want your parents to be listed?" he asked cautiously.

Arissa took a deep breath and figured now is her time, she had to. Plus, this would let her prepare for telling Stiles. She closed her eyes, not being able to watch Mr. Stilinski's face as she told him her story and he saw how damaged she was.

"My dad abandoned me when I was one. My mom stuck around until I was 14. Then she bailed and left me in our driveway after selling our house. I lived with my grandma for a year, but she died. Heart attack. She left me her fortune. She wasn't wealthy, but she had some money. I have used it for school, food, clothes, and now I guess medical bills. I have been on my own ever since my grandma passed. At least until I bumped into Stiles. I was ashamed. I am sorry I didn't say anything sooner." She explained as tears were now leaking down her face.

She took another deep breath before opening her eyes to look at the Sheriff, who just stared in absolute shock.

"I'm s-" he was cut off before he could finish.

"Please don't apologize. I don't want any pity. I just… I don't know. I didn't want you guys to see me any differently." she said.

"I don't." he said, "I see you exactly the same as before, only now, I see you even better because you have shared this with me. And if you are worried about Stiles. Just know that he loves you."

"So did my mom and grandma." she mumbled.

Suddenly the door burst open and Stiles stumbled in.

"Oh, thank god." he sighed.

He looked at her, categorizing all her injuries.

"Are you okay? I am so sorry I wasn't there. Or that I wasn't here sooner, the jeep broke down and I had to run the rest of the way. Why are you crying? Are you in pain? Do you need the doctor? I can find them for you." he said it all a mile a minute.

This just caused Arissa to laugh with a sob, "You ran here?"

"Yeah. I had to get to you as soon as possible and see if you were okay." he said.

That just made her cry harder.

Stiles looked so confused but he approached her slowly.

"I am gonna go find that doctor. Maybe also get some coffee." Sheriff Stilinski said.

Arissa knew what he was doing. Giving her the chance to tell Stiles everything. But then she'd lose him. Another sob wracked her body.

"Hey, baby. What's wrong? Please talk to me." Stiles pleaded.

"I don't want to lose." She gasped.

Stiles shook his head in denial, "You won't."

"I will… just like everyone else." she sighed and took a deep breath to try and calm herself, but it didn't work so she just continued talking, "It started with my dad. One of the people who is supposed to love you most in the world, didn't. He didn't believe I was his, and when it was proven he wanted to abort." she sobbed, "A little after I turned one, he left. He only really stuck around for his family's sake. But none of them stayed in touch anyways. He just never wanted me. Never loved me."

She looked up quickly to see Stiles listening intently.

She continued, "Mom stuck around. She was my best friend. My lifeline. Then one day when I was 14. She sells the house and leaves me in our driveway. I haven't heard from her since. I don't know what happened, or why she left but she did. After mom left my grandma took me in. However, she had a heart attack a year later. She didn't make it. She left me money to live off of, not a lot but enough, for now."

Stiles wiped a tear away from his cheek as he continued to listen to the heartbreaking story of his girlfriend's life.

"I had almost given up hope. I just didn't really see much purpose for me anymore. Then I bumped into this boy in the middle of the street. We kept trying to talk at the same time to apologize and we ended up just laughing. I think that's when I knew that something had changed. Hearing your laugh sparked this new hope in me. Hope of a future I thought was impossible. Hope that one day… I could be happy and laugh as freely as we did in that moment… all the time." She explained.

"I am so sorry Stiles. I kept this a secret. I tried my hardest not to lie, but not telling you is still a lie. Half-truths are lies. I am so sorry. I was just so scared. I am still terrified." she admitted.

"Terrified of what?" he whispered.

"That now that you know the truth you will see it. You will see whatever they all saw. What my mom and dad saw that made them leave. I know my grandma died, she didn't leave by choice… but it still hurts, as if it was my fault. Maybe it was all because she cared for me. Maybe no one is supposed to care about me. I could be cursed… it isn't that farfetched I mean come on a few weeks ago werewolves were a myth and now our best friend is one!" she started panicking and took a deep breath. "The thought of losing you, scares me more than anything or anyone else."

"Even bugs?" he teased.

"I'd swim in a pool of bugs if it meant I could keep you in my life. But I understand that I am damaged and broken. You deserve someone more put together. Like Lydia! She obviously has some kind of hidden feelings because she couldn't stop touching you. I just want the best for you Stiles. I want you happy, even if that isn't with me. We can always remain friends… but even if you don't want that… Just knowing you are okay will make me happier than anything." Arissa finally stopped talking and just stared at Stiles who had barely spoken

Stiles told her exactly what he was thinking, "I know you probably don't want to hear this. But… I am sorry you had to go through all that. But you have it all backwards. You think that because they didn't love you, or that they did but left anyways that you have to be broken. That isn't it at all. They are broken. Your mom and dad are the two stupidest people on the planet. I am glad I won't meet them. Anyone who causes you pain like this, is dead to me. Even if I don't know them. The only good thing they did was create the beautiful woman before me now. And honestly all they did was provide the genes. You made yourself who you are. You made yourself into a disciplined, intelligent, vibrant, force of nature. As for me being happy? The only way I am happy is if you are in my life. No one else especially NOT Lydia would make me even a fraction as happy as you make me. You are the only one I need and the only one I want. Yes, our friendship is important; however, I have been in love with you since we bumped into each other and we laughed. You say my laugh gave you hope. Well your laugh gave a light. A light that shines through on the darkest of my days. And I fell for it instantly like a moth to a flame. I told you once that beside drowning my biggest fear is losing someone I love again. That includes you. Hell, that whole statement is you. My biggest fear is losing you… because I don't think I could survive it. Losing anyone else would be hell, but I would cope and deal. But you… not waking up to you every day… or not getting one of those little kisses just because… or just not having the feeling of your presence would be a never-ending nightmare. What I am trying to say is that… I love you alright. That hasn't changed. Nor will it ever change. You are stuck with me Arissa. And I hope I get the honor to be stuck with you."

"You are stuck with me Stiles." she smiled.

"Good. I want you to know that if you need me to, I will spend every day making sure you know that I love you and I am here for you. If you ever doubt that… tell me no matter what is bothering you. No matter what is on your mind, please tell me. I welcome it. I want to be the person you turn to." He said.

"I will. I love you. And I am sorry." she said again.

He grinned, "That's all I can ask, I love you too. But baby you have nothing to apologize for. I understand."

He leaned over her bed and kissed her and she kissed him back just as softly as he had. She lifted her arm to wrap around his neck but winced when it throbbed in pain.

Stiles pulled away, "Are you sure you are alright?"

"I have you. I couldn't be better." she responded.

"Thank you for helping my dad, but please never put yourself in danger like this again." he said.

She grinned, "Hmmm… no promises."

He sighs and says jokingly, "You are going to be the death of me."

"I hope not." She said seriously.

They both just stare at each other before a knock sounds on the door.

Mr. Stilinski enters and smiles brightly as if he knows what was said between them. It wouldn't be a surprise if he did, he is a masterful detective after all.

"The doctor wants to take you for some scans," he explained.

"Alright." she said.

Some nurses came in and then took her off to get scans done. Leaving the Stilinski men in the room alone.

"So, she told you?" Sheriff Stilinski asked.

He nodded.

"I am guessing she probably told you more than me. But she gave me the bullet points." his dad said.

Stiles remained silent.

"What's going on in your head son?" he asked.

Stiles clenched his fists, "I am angry. How could- how could anybody leave her?"

The Sheriff shook his head, "I don't know son."

"She was living on her own for nearly a whole year before I met her. I would ask if she'd want to go to her house or for me to pick her up and she would have me take her to coffee shops, the library, or park." Stiles shook his head, "I should have known."

"Hey, none of that. You couldn't have known, neither of us could have. She kept it close to herself." Mr. Stilinski said, even though he had the same thought.

How could he call himself a Sheriff when the girl who was dating his son for nearly two years has been homeless and parentless.

"I am gonna have to call Child Protective Services." he said.

"WHAT?! NO!" Stiles yelled.

"Stiles she is 16 and has no one looking after her." he said.

"That isn't true! She has us. When was the last time she didn't spend a night at our house anyways? She even calls it home all the time." Stiles defended.

His dad looked thoughtful, "I understand Stiles but-"

"Dad please. A 16-year-old going into CPS. You have told me those stories and statistics." Stiles pleaded.

The man nodded, "Alright, of course she can stay. But I am going to be paying much more attention from now on. And we need to get her more things, I know she already has a drawer and she likes to wear your clothes but that's just not going to happen."

"Thank you, dad." Stiles said.

"I don't want anything to happen to her. But understand this Stiles, this means you will be living with her, that is a big step." Mr. Stilinski tried to warn.

Stiles grinned, "I am happy with it, I love her more than anything."

"We will protect her from now on." Stilinski said to his son who nodded in agreement.
