This is the new and improved backstory of Prince Phobos. It is basically the same as the backstory I posted a few years ago but with a lot more details and history. Some things and events will be changed slightly since I reread the comics and read others' stories and become inspired so I suggest you reread if you read it before but you don't have to since the story is the same. But if you did read the previous version I'd love to know what you thought about the additions. Even though it's called The Phobos Trilogy Part One it's not a trilogy, I just thought it was going to be a trilogy at the time. Since we get so little info about the history of Metamoor, I obviously am making some things up, but we do get some info. Yan Lin tells the girls in the first issue that all evil beings were banished to the Metaworld. This is usually interchangeable with Metamoor but I saw a theory that Metaworld is the other side of the Veil and planets get banned there. We also know that Escanor and his knights came to Earth, and we don't know when but probably in Arthurian times since there are people named Escanor in Arthurian legends. I'll be basing some Metamoorian customs and names and the like on Medieval Earth customs and names, but it is a different world and not everything is based on Earth, though Escanor probably influenced a lot of things. Also, just because they're not as advanced as us doesn't mean they're lacking science and all that. People on Earth always had things like science, philosophy, and medicine, and depending on where and when you lived it could be more or less advanced. In Arthurian times which were Anglo-Saxon times Christianity was spreading in England, so I think Escanor would have been somewhat influenced and maybe would've brought over a Bible. Elyon's name is from the Old Testament as is Caleb's so it's likely they have some names and expressions derived from the OT and they probably have the stories as part of their lore.

Chapter One

Lord Xavier sighed as he made his way to the throne room; Prince Phobos was becoming quite a handful. When messengers from the Queen had come to his hometown looking for an educated nobleman, preferably one with knowledge of magic, to teach Prince Phobos, he had volunteered. Being recently widowed and with a young son, and with a solid education and powers of his own, he had decided that a fresh start would be good for them both. When he and his son arrived and gone to the palace, the Queen had accepted his application and had asked him to start immediately, not only as a tutor but as a bodyguard and valet. When he had informed her that he had to take care of his son and couldn't spend all his time with the prince, she had still hired him, though she had asked him to consider taking up other duties when his son was older. She had also graciously provided them with an apartment in the palace.

Well, though he didn't think his job would be easy, now that he had officially started he certainly wasn't expecting it to be this difficult. Queen Weira's only child and heir to the throne (for now) was very mischievous now that his full powers were manifesting. Thankfully, he still had a nanny, Galgheita, who was in charge of him when lessons were over.

The guards nodded to him and opened the doors as he approached.

"Your Majesty", Xavier said as he bowed. "The young prince is making it rain in the classroom."

The queen sighed gently and replied,"I'll talk to him tonight. In the meantime, take the rest of the day off. Tell Phobos if he wants to make it rain he should do it in the garden."

Lord Xavier bowed again and walked out. He hoped the prince would calm down after a while and behave during his lessons.

Queen Weira sighed as she thought about her son. It seemed he was causing mischief at an extraordinary rate now that he had a tutor who taught him how to control his magic. When he was younger she had just dampened his powers but now that he had Lord Xavier to guide him she had stopped. Her son, however, delighted in causing mischief and pranking the staff and it was getting out of hand. He was young, though, and without any friends. Perhaps bonding with another little boy would help. She smiled as she thought of the perfect solution; she'll ask Lord Xavier to bring his son to lessons from now on, and encourage them to be friends.

That night, after talking to Xavier and making all the necessary arrangements, Queen Weira walked into her son's room and smiled at him. "Phobos darling, you're going to have your lessons with another little boy," she told him. "Lord Xavier has a son your age, Cedric, and I think you'll both get along."

Her seven-year old shrugged in indifference. The Queen, after asking him to try his best to be friendly to Cedric at their lessons tomorrow, kissed her son goodnight then left to finish up some important matters before going to sleep herself. Hopefully having someone his own age to play with would keep Phobos out of mischief.

The Next Morning

After waking up and eating breakfast, Phobos made his way to the private room where Lord Xavier taught him. Even though he wasn't the heir, there was still a lot to learn. He sat down and took out his books. They were concentrating on reading. writing, math, history, geography, and magic, with more subjects and tutors to be added when he was older.

He glanced up when the door opened and his tutor came in with a boy he assumed was Cedric.

"Your Highness," his tutor said, "this is my son Cedric. He will be attending lessons with you from now on."

Phobos nodded as Cedric timidly took a seat. Lord Xavier then began reviewing the alphabet. After an hour or so, he announced it was time for a break and if they wanted they could play in the room while he got them all a snack. Phobos went to the closet in the back which had some toys and games for precisely this reason. He took out some blocks and began stacking them together, ignoring the other boy as he did so. He saw no reason to invite Cedric to play with him just yet, and he was doing fine on his own.

Lord Xavier came back a few minutes later with a tray of assorted snacks and drinks. As they ate, he felt a twinge of sadness that the prince didn't seem to care about Cedric. He had hoped it would work out between the two boys, as each of them could do with a friend. Pushing his thoughts aside, he got up to get the math books for the next lesson. When the snacks were finished, he told the boys to sit back down so they could learn math.

A few hours later, it was time for lunch. Lord Xavier went to the kitchen to get them each a tray and came back a few minutes later with them in hand. He handed each boy a tray then sat down and began to eat, wondering how to break the ice between the two boys. He really wanted them to get along. Perhaps if he took a break from lessons and did something fun? The Queen gave him permission to take Phobos out on trips for educational purposes and as long as he had a few guards to ensure his safety. But where should he take them?

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Phobos, who had finished eating, amusing himself by setting his tray on fire with a wave of his hand.

Lord Xavier stood up in a panic, but the boy just smiled and put it out with stream of conjured water.

"Perhaps," the tutor began, "we shouldn't be setting things on fire just yet, Your Highness. We still have a lot of learning to do."

The prince just rolled his eyes as Xavier collected his tray before it could be damaged further and sat back down to finish his meal. When the tutor had finished eating, he collected his and Cedric's trays and stacked them outside the door to be picked up the maid. He then announced, "Take out The Theory and Practical Application of Magic by Ensil of White River."

The boys did so, and he continued, "Ensil has developed the theories of magic that are used today. They are

1. Magic is attracted to magic.

2. Magic is not alive but It has its own kind of intelligence and awareness.

3. You can only wield magic if you were born with it and if you're not born with it you cannot get it.

4. Everyone who's born with magic has an internal supply that constantly renews itself as its used and therefore it can't run out.

5. Everyone's internal supply is set at a different power level which cannot be permanently added to or subtracted from and any gain or loss of magic will eventually be corrected. The amount of power you have determines the strength of your spells, and you cannot break any enchantments cast by someone with a stronger power level than you.

6. Magic is everywhere and so you do not have to depend only on your internal supply when doing magic and you can tap into and control an area's magic supply.

7. Different places have different amounts of magic and successfully controlling or tapping into an area's magic supply depends on your internal power and the area's power.

8. There are many categories and subcategories of magic and being born with magic doesn't mean you can do it all. You can only do the type of magic you're born with and you cannot undo an enchantment if it's of a category that you're not born with.

It's important to remember," he continued, "that even though Ensil is highly regarded he is not the only one who has studied and theorized about magic, and we will discuss the others after we finished learning about Ensil's theories." He went on to expound upon these theories for about an hour and then they learned the other subjects.

After Class

After they were finally finished learning everything, Phobos left to go to his room, leaving father and son by themselves. As Xavier gathered his things, he saw that Cedric looked sad.

"Well?" He asked his son. "What did you think?"

"I don't think he likes me," Cedric replied.

"It was your first day," his father replied. "I'm sure he'll warm up to you." He then put his arm around his son and they walked to their rooms to relax before supper.

That Night

Phobos was in bed when his mother came in.

"What did you think about Cedric," Weira asked with a hopeful smile.

"He was kind of boring," Phobos answered.

"Well, you just met," his mother replied. "He's also probably a little scared of you. Try to find something in common with him." She then kissed her son goodnight and left the room.

Phobos lay awake for a while, wondering what he should do with Cedric tomorrow and if he should even bother being friendly to the other boy. After all, he didn't need a friend. Or did he? He finally fell asleep, still not sure how he felt about the whole situation.

I hope you all enjoyed this and please review! I'll try to update this story and Rise of M.A.G.I.C as soon as possible. Since we get so little info on things like Metamoor's history I'd love to hear your take on their society. There's also a lot of plot-holes in WITCH so I'll do my best to resolve them and I'd also like to hear your take on them as well. Also, any Earth names they had on Metamoor were probably based on Arthurian times but I like Xavier so I'm sticking to it.
