A/N - Hi readers. Moving forward, I will be trying to update my stories on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. I really want to get back in the rhythm of updating as frequently as how I used to. I know it can be frustrating following a story that isn't regularly updated but I was trying my best. I'm in a much better place now and think I should be able to update more frequently. Next story to be updated should be Vision sequel followed by Taken. Anyways, let me know your thoughts!
Fitz was sitting in his private office when he heard a knock on the door. "Come in," he called as he looked up from the stack of papers he was reading. It was John, his executive assistant.
"Sir, Tabitha just arrived. She's in the residence with Olivia and your daughters."
Fitz nodded and stood as he tossed the papers on his desk, "thanks John." John nodded and closed the door, moving over to his office down the hall.
Fitz walked to the residence and went to the twins nursery which is where he guessed they would have been. As he approached he heard crying and smiled because he knew exactly why. When he opened the door, both Luna and Lana were screaming as Tabitha held them. "This is all Fitz's fault. If he had let me get used to them, they wouldn't cry like this."
Olivia shook her head and smiled then realized Fitz was standing in the doorway.
"What's my fault?" he asked with a smile though he'd heard everything she said.
Tabitha turned around. "Karen never screamed like this from me."
"That's because we raised Karen together. You're retired now, aren't you?"
"I'm not retired from being family!" she exclaimed.
"Tabitha, you can come to the Whitehouse anytime you'd like, I'm sure you know that."
"Pish posh," Tabitha groaned. "I don't like flying. It's a 6-hour flight."
"Exactly but it's still my fault right?"
Tabitha nodded, "Yes."
Fitz laughed as he walked to her and hugged her, with Lana and Luna now reaching for him.
"By the way, I know you're pregnant Olivia," she added.
Olivia gasped. "Sarah, can you give us a minute," she said quickly.
"I don't know why Fitz wouldn't tell me?" Tabitha added.
"What are you talking about?" Fitz asked, pretending not to understand.
"I've lived a long life. I got an upset stomach the other day and I just had a feeling someone was pregnant. Now that I'm looking at you, I know it's you."
Olivia was flustered and speechless. Fitz just grinned, amused.
Sarah left the room but both girls were still crying.
"Well?" Tabitha asked.
"Olivia's pregnant," Fitz admitted.
"And you didn't tell me," Tabitha said.
"We were going to go when the time was right."
"Mhmm, " Tabitha responded with a smile. "It'll be more than one again."
"No, don't say that," Olivia whined.
"I can feel it," Tabitha said.
"No," Olivia walked to her and reached for the twins. They'd been crying since Tabitha held them and more than a few minutes had passed. She was glad when Tabitha allowed her to take them without fuss, she couldn't stand them crying without trying to comfort them. "They're gorgeous babies," Tabitha said as she placed Luna's pacifier that was pinned to her onesie back in her mouth. Luna laid her head on Olivia's shoulder before turning away from Tabitha.
"Fitz told me the doctor's visit to check them for any cancer symptoms went well and they were cleared."
Olivia nodded, "Yes, I'm really grateful for that. I have two healthy babies."
"That's a blessing," Tabitha said before she turned to Fitz, "what time does Karen get home from school."
Fitz checked his watch. "She has clubs so not until 4:30 or so."
"She's a busy little one," Tabitha said with a chuckle. "Let me go settle in. It was a long flight."
Both Fitz and Olivia nodded as Tabitha walked out. Once the door closed Olivia' sighed exasperated. "You're almost 7 weeks, people will find out eventually."
"I don't mind that Tabitha knows but now Sarah knows. What if she says something?"
"She's been Karen's nanny for years and there's nothing that's ever happened in front of her that's made its way to the media."
Olivia nodded, "Bonnie went to get them an afternoon snack, I'll wait here for her. They woke just about 20 minutes ago"
"Alright," he said as he walked to her and gave her a peck on the lips. "Are you ready to marry me tomorrow and make me an eternally happy man?"
"That's the plan," she said with a smile.
He smiled, "alright then. I'll see you in a few hours for dinner."
Olivia nodded as he kissed her again before he headed out. Olivia waited for Bonnie with her girls before leaving them to eat their snacks. She went to meet Abby in the east wing. Everything had been finalized for their small ceremony to take place in the East Room of the white house. It was currently filled with contractors for their wedding planner, transforming the room into a space for the wedding. Only family and very close friends would be in attendance for the ceremony, which meant Tabitha, Abby, Cyrus and James, Richard, Andrew, Harrison, Stephen, and Huck along with a few others. The reception would have many more guests.
When she walked into her office, Abby was sitting on the couch eating a salad as was the rest of their team and two members of Fitz's communication team.
Olivia sat down on the opposite side of the couch. "Okay, jumping back into where I left off, I think one last statement that the wedding won't be open to the press corp is fine."
"They're threatening to file for an injunction, forcing you to grant them access to the wedding."
"No court will grant them an injunction so their threats are toothless," Olivia said. "I release all the pictures once the wedding is over."
"Alright, I have an aide draft a statement, would you like me to send it to you for final review?" the press secretary's assistant asked.
Olivia shook her head, "I don't think I need to review but if you think so you can send it over."
"Alright," the group of them nodded in agreement.
They continued their meeting to finalize the last details surrounding the press and media around the wedding. Only Vogue would be allowed any access to the wedding and all photos would have to be approved before they made it to a special digital and print editorial on her wedding.
She was excited. Fitz kept asking her if she had cold feet but that couldn't be further from it. She couldn't wait to marry the love of her life and officially begin their lives as husband and wife.
Once Fitz's communication team left, she finished meeting with her team and just after 5pm, she returned to the residence.
She expected to find Karen in her room but didn't. She decided to go down to her dressing room and look at her wedding dress once again. She was in love with it. It had a bodice with delicate Italian lace sleeves and a beautiful crepe skirt with a slight train. Her veil was completely lace.
As she stared at it there was a knock on her closet door.
"Come in," she called.
Abby entered.
"Hey Liv, I think everything is set for tomorrow. The contractors are gonna continue working for a few more hours before they return in the morning but it looks great. I just peaked, the flowers are stunning."
Olivia smiled and turned around, "great."
"How are you feeling? Any nerves?"
"No, none," she said with a smile. "I'm just thinking at this time last year I was a single mom of newborn twins."
"Yes, he moved very fast," Abby joked. "And good on him. It's nice to have a man who knows what he wants."
Olivia chuckled, "Yeah. It's not too late to kick Richard out of the wedding."
"Screw him, I've moved on."
"Moved on-" Olivia gasped. "Spill- tell me."
"No- I just meant - I was going to tell you but I wanted to wait until after the wedding. This is your moment."
"Boo- spill!" Olivia demanded playfully.
Abby sighed heavily, "I hooked up with Andrew like a week after the dinner."
Olivia smiled, "how do you feel about that? The way you're telling me doesn't seem like you're happy."
"I'm not sad- it's just that we didn't use protection…"
"Okay-" Olivia gasped. "Are you preg-"
"No, I don't know-I don't think so, and even if I was or wasn't I mean, we're not committed so I definitely wouldn't want to be. I'm also doing a shame swirl because I hooked up with a man I barely know and I didn't use protection."
Olivia shrugged, "I didn't use any my first time with Fitz."
Abby gasped.
"What? We didn't have any and I was on birth control and I'd known him for months at that point so I decided to go all in on my horrible decision-making that night. After the first two times we had sex I saw my gyno on a campaign stop in New York a couple weeks later, got tested and I was fine."
"Andrew is the vice-president so I…I mean he did medical and he released it to the press."
Olivia nodded, "And obviously, you should still get tested in a few weeks but the more pressing concern is whether you'll get pregnant or not, you're not on any birth control Abby. Did you take the morning after?"
"No," she said with a sigh. "But he pulled out."
"Have you seen him again since then?"
"Yeah, we've seen each other a few times. It's been good, he's…there's intention behind our conversations and he planned another dinner date this Sunday. I'm just annoyed that I slept with him so quickly. I was a little drunk and so was he but that's no excuse. I wasn't ready to jump into something so quickly. Sleeping with him took it to another level."
Olivia smiled as she walked to her and hugged her. "Well, you're human, and definitely don't be mad at yourself for sleeping with a single man that you like and who also likes you. You're doing loads better than me because Fitz was not single and we were not drunk."
Abby laughed, "Thanks for the pep talk!"
Olivia let her go and stepped back. "What would you do if you were pregnant?"
"I honestly don't know and I can't even think about it. That last thing I want to be is the baby mama of the vice- president-" Abby realized what she said and stopped. "-I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that."
Olivia gave her a small smile. "It's okay."
"No- I mean obviously you didn't plan the twins and even so you and Fitz are in love and were in love when you conceived them and you had a lot more conversations about your relationship and your future than I have with Andrew and also, if you hadn't broken up I'm sure he would've married you long before the twins were born."
"Abby, it's okay," Olivia assured her. "I didn't take offense and I know you didn't mean it that way. I'll never pretend that how and when I got pregnant was planned or even how I wanted to get pregnant with my first babies. I don't want that for you if you can avoid it. There were a lot of tears if you can remember."
Abby smiled and shook her head. "I do remember and thanks for saying that but that was an asshole comment. I'm a little stressed but this is precisely why I wanted to wait until after the wedding to spill my guts to you."
Olivia laughed, "No, this is information I needed right away! I can't believe you kept it that long. I'm usually the one who tries to keep secrets when I'm doing a shame swirl."
Abby laughed, "At least you're self-aware."
Olivia rolled her eyes playfully as she turned back to her dress.
"" You're gonna be a beautiful bride," Abby said. "He just better make sure he deserves you."
"He does," Olivia said. "He's a great partner and a great dad to the girls."
Abby nodded as she hugged Olivia again, "And if he ever stops, you know I'm always there for you, to talk or to help you with anything you need."
"I know," Olivia said.
"Okay, get plenty of rest because you have a presidential wedding tomorrow. I'm gonna head home."
"Alright, thanks for everything, Abby."
"Please, you did the same for my wedding- as much as I want to forget the marriage, the wedding was gorgeous because of all your help."
Abby hugged her again before heading out. Olivia checked the time on her phone and saw that it was later than she realized. She left her dressing room and walked down to the twins' nursery. When she stepped inside Fitz was there with Tabitha and Karen.
"Mom," Karen said as she ran over to Olivia and hugged her.
"Hey Kare Bear," Olivia said as she fluffed her hair and then kissed her cheek.
"Titi's gonna have dinner with us," Karen said.
"That's great," Olivia said.
Luna and Lana stretched for Olivia from Fitz's arms. She smiled as Fitz walked to her and allowed her to take them. She kissed them all over their faces and got a resounding laughter from them both. Luna laughed so hard that her pacifier fell out of her mouth.
Fitz took Lana even though she fussed and the group of them headed to the dining room for dinner.
They enjoyed a dinner of pan-fried halibut and beurre blanc sauce with grilled vegetables. Karen filled the table with talk of her excitement at the wedding.
After dinner, they moved to the lounge to continue their conversation and allow the twins to play until they began to ready them for bed. While Olivia and Fitz readied the twins, Tabitha was happy to stay with Karen until she settled in for bed.
Olivia sat on the rocking chair with both Luna and Lana standing on her lap with their little feet. She held them against her chest as she gazed at their little faces. "It's time for bed," Olivia whispered. They both looked at her, both sucking on their pacifiers. Fitz pulled a short storybook from the bookshelf and sat on the tufted ottoman in front of the rocking chair.
"Dada is going to read your bedtime story tonight," Olivia said to them as she turned them around and sat them in her lap.
Fitz smiled as he opened the book and read the bedtime story about a baby elephant who didn't like sleeping. When he was done the twins were just as alert as they were before.
He laughed.
"They're gonna cry," He said.
"I know," Olivia said with a laugh as well. He stood and took Luna from Olivia's lap and she stood with Lana after. They laid them both in their cribs, turned on the sound machine then turned off the lights, and as soon as they closed the door, crying ensued.
Olivia stood for a moment, "I hate it when they cry even if I know they need to cry a little sometimes."
"So do I," he said. "But when they do their little pout, I'd watch them cry all day."
Olivia laughed, "It's adorable, isn't it? It's my weakness. Luna tries so hard to sell it and it works every time."
He laughed, "it does."
They waited a few minutes longer until their crying subsided and all they could wear was the white noise machine.
"Look at that, out like a light, just like every other night," Fitz said.
Olivia rolled her eyes playfully and together they went down to Karen's bedroom to tell her goodnight.
It was almost 9 PM when they finally headed to their bedroom. Olivia plopped down on the couch. Fitz sat beside her. She leaned over against his chest and snuggled against his side. Fitz wrapped his arm around her and kissed her forehead.
"A glass of wine right now would be nice," she mumbled. "But you had to impregnate me on the first try."
He smiled and ran his hand across her belly, caressing it gently. "I know. I had one job, sorry for doing it so well…in my defense, your magical pussy doesn't really help."
She laughed, "Magical is it?"
"The kind of magic that I'd go to war for," he said then sighed as he stood. "Come on, we need to wash off and go to bed. Tomorrow is the day I become your husband, I need a full night's rest. It's a big day for me," he said with a tone of dry humor that made her chuckle.
"Yes, I'd hate to let you lose any sleep," Olivia retorted.
"I'm glad you understand. I'm marrying the woman of my dreams, I'd rather not have the day marred by a poor night's rest."
She laughed as they walked to the bathroom and undressed then stepped into the shower. They washed off quickly before brushing their teeth. Olivia took a bit longer with her skincare routine before she met him in the closet and dressed in one of his t-shirts and underwear then crawled into bed with him.
She snuggled beside him and laid her head against his shoulder.
"Still no cold feet?" he asked.
"No, none. You?"
"Fuck no!" he said emphatically.
She laughed. "Fuck me for asking."
He leaned up and kissed her lips before he turned off the lights and they drifted off to sleep.
When Olivia woke up Fitz was gone from the bed. She stretched before she turned over and grabbed her phone from the nightstand. It was just after 5:30 AM and she wondered where we could be. She reached an arm over his side of the bed and it was cold. She could see in the bathroom and he wasn't there. She turned over and pulled the covers up to her face. Some time passed when she heard her bedroom door open and Fitz walked in.
"Fucking North Korea," he cursed as he closed the door behind him. He sighed as he walked to the bathroom. His phone rang as stepped into the bathroom.
"What is it Josh," he asked as he answered.
Olivia rolled over in the bed to her other side but she was still awake and listening.
"Listen, if he launches another one of those missiles and it hits something then send them for me but anything short of that then I don't wanna hear it. I'm getting married to the woman of my dreams today Josh, what do I need to do to be left alone? Do I have to sign over the presidency to Andrew for the day or will you take care of this shit?"
She heard some silence before Fitz responded. "Great!" then hung up.
She heard him pee in the toilet before he washed his hands and walked to the closet to change back into his pajamas. He climbed into bed and wrapped his arms around her though her back was turned to him.
"How long have you been up?" she asked.
"You're awake?" he asked.
She turned around to him, "yeah."
"Did I wake you?"
"No, I was awake before you came."
"Are you alright?" he asked.
Olivia nodded and smiled. "You didn't answer my question."
"I woke up a little before 3 am. Kim Jong Un is up to his usual fuckery. Launching missiles that don't work into the sea/"
She laughed as she ran her hand down his cheek, "Didn't get your beauty sleep, did you."
"Unfortunately for me," he said playfully. "But it seems like you did."
Olivia nodded, "slept so good I didn't feel you leave the bed."
"How are you feeling?" he said as he moved her hands down to her belly.
"Great," she said. "You know, you should try to get even another hour of sleep."
"I'll try."
Olivia turned around so her back was against his chest. He kissed her shoulder and wrapped his arms around her. Fitz dozed off soon but Olivia lay awake until she heard Luna calling her on the monitor.
"Mm-mama-mammm-aaa-mama," she called before she began blowing raspberries with her mouth. It was their newest thing, blowing bubbles with their mouths and spraying their spit everywhere in the process. Olivia gently moved Fitz's arm from around her before she sat up and walked to the bathroom to slip on her robe.
When she quietly opened the twin's nursery door, Luna was standing in her crib in her sleep sack, holding onto the bars.
"Mamaaa-" she bounced on her feet excitedly. Olivia smiled as she walked over to her and lifted her from her crib before kissing her all over her face. "Good morning my beautiful baby girl," she said with a smile as she hugged and kissed her again. "You're such a cutie- yesh you are, yesh you are my little Lulu."
Her hair was a bit matted. Olivia smiled as she ran her fingers through Luna's short curly blonde hair.
Olivia wiped some of the saliva from Luna's chin before she felt her diaper. It was soaking wet and after she took off her sleep sack and changed her diaper, Lana began to stir in her crib until she sat up. "Good morning my little sugar snap," Olivia said.
Lana stood and held on to the bars of the crib. Olivia let Luna down to the ground and she immediately began fussing.
"Mama needs a minute Lulu," she said as she lifted Lana out of the crib and kissed her. "You still look a little tired baby," Olivia said as she hugged her. Lana leaned her head against Olivia's shoulder and rubbed her eyes. Olivia leaned a little closer and could hear some stuffiness in Lana's breathing.
"You sound a little stuffy. Are you getting a little sick?" Olivia said as she rocked her slightly before she kissed her cheek again and laid her on the changing table. She took her sleep sack off then her diaper. Luna stood at Olivia's leg, holding on to her, fussing for attention.
A moment later Fitz walked in.
"Fitz, you're up?"
"Yeah," he said as he walked to her and lifted Luna from the floor then kissed her. "I heard you on the monitor."
"Oh- I didn't mean to wake you," Olivia said as she tossed Lana's diaper in the diaper bin before taking out a new one and lifting her legs slightly to slip it under her before clipping it.
"It was time for me to wake up," he said. "You said Lana is a little sick?"
"She's a little stuffy, I'm hoping it won't be too serious," Olivia said as she wiped Lana's nose. She wiggled a bit as Olivia did this and as she fussed Olivia could hear the heaviness of the mucus in her nose. She stopped when Olivia moved the wipes.
"Can you hold her for me, I want to use the aspirator to clear her nose," she said.
He kissed Luna's cheek before letting her down to the ground and she immediately dropped herself on her butt and began crying.
"I love her little tantrums," Olivia said with a chuckle, "it's so cute."
Fitz laughed as he wrapped his arms around Lana to hold her arms in place then held her head in place. Olivia pulled out the aspirator and placed it at the opening of her nostril. Lana began to fuss but Fitz held her as Olivia sucked her boogers out with the pump. She kicked her legs, fussing and crying but just a few moments later Olivia was done.
"It's okay Lala, Mama and Dada just had to make sure you could breathe alright," Olivia said as she lifted her. Lana wiped her eyes and when she inhaled her noose sounded much clearer. Olivia tickled her belly playfully, "See, don't you feel better my little blueberry?"
Lana laughed and rested her head on Olivia's shoulders. Fitz lifted Luna from the ground. "Come here you little princess," he said. She reached for Olivia. And he laughed. "What am I, Luna?"
Olivia laughed, "she's a girl's girl, that's all."
"Can't you just pretend to prefer daddy sometimes?" he asked. "Just to secure your trust fund?"
Olivia laughed even harder as Luna looked at him puzzled.
"Are we having breakfast together before you head off?" he asked.
Olivia nodded as she headed to the door. "I want to watch her for the next hour or so to see how she's feeling. I might want Dr. Fahler to give her something to make her feel better."
He nodded as they both headed out of the nursery and to Karen's room to wake her. They enjoyed breakfast together and Lana had her usual appetite and energy but Olivia still decided to have the white house doctor give her something hoping it would clear up her nose and help her get over her cold faster. They also decided to give Luna medicine as well. The twins spent their entire days together and Olivia expected Luna to get sick with symptoms within a day or two.
When they returned with the twins back to the residence, Olivia and Fitz went their separate ways, Olivia took Karen to her dressing room and Fitz took the twins to his office. He had some time to spare until he would begin getting ready but Olivia had hours of preparation and Karen was excited to be involved in any way she could.
Once he arrived at his office he put Lana and Luna down between the sofas. Richard was to arrive soon. Moments later Sarah arrived to drop off toys for the twins. She was to take the morning off to get ready for the wedding as well then she and Bonnie would help with the twins during the wedding and reception.
Once she left, Fitz sat with them, playing for a few minutes before his phone chimed. As he expected, it was Richard letting him know he'd be at the white house soon.
He responded and then a second later there was a knock on the door.
"Come in," he called.
It was Tom as well as the secret service chief and Jake.
"What is it now?" Fitz asked as he stood.
"Sir, we want to update you on the Brandon Duncan situation," the Secret Service chief said.
Fitz nodded as he motioned for them to sit on the couch. "What is that lunatic up to now?"
"We got a report of a few dead animals in an area of the George Washington National Forest in the Appalachians. The animals, which as far as we found consisted of only white-tailed deer, have the First Lady's name painted on them in red paint. They were found in the surrounding recreational areas of the park. The reports came from park troopers and I sent a team to investigate and we can confirm the facts of the report."
"How were the deer killed?" Fitz asked.
"Several gunshot wounds."
"What caliber bullet?"
"I believe it was a 50 caliber, sir."
"Where is he?"
"His location is unknown at the moment sir, we believe he's still in the national park sir but he's completely off the grid. We're searching the park with helicopters and infrared scanners but still, it's an extensive area to search."
"Are you on top of this?" Fitz asked Tom and Jake.
Both men nodded.
"You make sure this lunatic gets nowhere close to my woman. That's your one and only job right now. Nothing else matters."
They nodded in agreement and excused themselves. Fitz sighed heavily as he sat on the ground once again beside the twins who were occupied sucking their pacifiers as they played with their toys.
Just around 15 minutes later his phone rang and it was Olivia.
"Hi Honey," he answered.
"How are my babies?" Olivia asked.
"Great, Lana sounds good. They're playing nicely and not pulling each other's hair out."
Olivia laughed, "okaOkay'm here getting all primped and pretty for you."
"I can't wait to see you."
"I can't wait to see you too," she said before she smiled and hung up. "Sorry, I had to check on my babies," Olivia said to the manicurist who was working on her free hand. Her hairstylist was busy working on her hair. Another manicurist was working on her feet.
Back in Fitz's office, some time had passed before Richard walked in, escorted by Secret Service. Fitz was still on the ground with the twins as they stuffed shapes into a sorting cube.
Fitz looked up and smiled when he saw Richard. "Am I late for the wedding," Richard joked.
Fitz laughed, "It's good to see you."
Richard closed the door behind him and walked over to Fitz then sat on the couch. "I thought I'd come here and share a drink with you, to celebrate the fact that you'll be married twice before I have married once. But here you are babysitting."
"It's not babysitting if they're my children," Fitz said. "Besides, I'll save the drinks for the reception."
"That's smart," Richard said as he sighed. "How are you feeling? Any cold feet?"
"Hot feet actually," Fitz retorted. "I can't wait to marry that fox."
Richard laughed, "Do you think she'll have cold feet?"
"I don't know, " Fitz said with a chuckle. "I hope not."
By about 3 in the afternoon, everyone was almost ready. Bonnie picked up the twins from Fitz and brought them to the bridal suite so Olivia's team could get them ready. There were photographers in her bridal suite, taking stills of her through the process of getting ready though they left when it came time for the children to get dressed. Karen was ready, in a white dress with a full tulle skirt. She was in love with her dress and Olivia allowed her to wear whatever jewels and hair accessories she wanted to feel pretty and confident in it. Olivia sat in her chair as her makeup team added the last touches to her face. She loved the way she looked.
Bonnie had the girls now, keeping them busy in their nursery until it was time. They had dressed in their matching white dresses and white flats but Olivia placed bibs on them to keep their dresses dry and as clean as possible.
When she finished her makeup, her stylist helped her into her wedding dress. Abby was already dressed in her simple white gown that she chose from the same designer who designed Olivia's gown.
Once all the stylists, manicurists, makeup artists, and assistants left to get ready for reception, the photographers left as well. It was just Olivia and Abby in the bridal suite, waiting for the wedding planner to come and get them once everyone was in place.
Olivia sat, tapped her legs, and fidgeted with Fitz's wedding band in her hand.
"Are you okay?" Abby asked.
"I feel nerves coming on," she said with a small nervous chuckle.
"Really?" Abby asked.
"I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision- you know- I'm not just blinded by love and rushing into it."
"What do you mean? Being blinded by love on your wedding day is exactly how you should be. That is not a bad thing unless you're marrying an abuser- like I did or some extreme narcissist or something. Being very in love is a good thing."
"I know but usually in relationships, I have no problem thinking logically, no problem dumping someone when I feel like they aren't good for me or there are too many red flags but with him, it's like…I fell in love with him so hard and so fast. I don't trust myself to think logically with him-"
"-What are you worried about?" Abby said. "What's really making you nervous?"
"I'm just…I'm scared it won't work out."
Abby sat beside her. "Don't be scared. I feel good about this."
Olivia chuckled, "I'm just making stuff up to be nervous about at this point," she said with a sigh. "I just hope there isn't something I'm not seeing. I hope it's just nerves."
Abby stooped in front of her and held her hand. "If there was a reason I thought you shouldn't marry him you'd know it by now. You have a beautiful family, you have a bonus daughter who's the sweetest little girl. He gives you everything you want and most important, he loves you like a fucking madman and you love him too. You're making the right decision."
"Thanks Abby," Olivia said as she squeezed her hand. "I was so steadfast this entire time. So sure about it all until suddenly I'm freaking out."
Abby laughed, "a little cold feet is normal, healthy even."
Her wedding planner came for them and it was just minutes later that she was standing in front of their friends and family, feeling like the most beautiful woman in the world after he'd gushed about her appearance for all to hear. She gazed into Fitz's eyes and he gazed into hers. He looked divine in his bespoke black tux. The priest spoke to them but she was consumed with how she could ever doubt or even question whether marrying him was the right choice. Once the priest said his piece, Fitz recited his vows, she recited hers. They exchanged rings and celebrated with a short but intimate kiss.
The only reason the twins weren't fussing during the ceremony is because they were both sleeping, one with Bonnie and the other with Sarah, sucking on their pacifiers and obvious to everything that was happening.
Fitz lifted her and wrapped his arms around her to cheers from the small crowd. She hugged him and smiled. There was a two-hour break between the ceremony and the reception planned. They took photos together in the rose garden. Olivia's bouquet was a white ranunculus arrangement with green fillers. After they took pictures together they moved back to the residence. It was almost 6pm now. They had to split up once again so Olivia could change from her wedding dress to her reception dress. It was a Kim Kassas gown, a white sleeveless corset with beautiful pearl and jewel beading and a silk taffeta skirt. It came with a loose beaded silk cape. She changed her jewelry to compliment her new dress. Abby walked over with a small box and opened it in front of her. "Your wedding gift," she said with a smile.
It was a white lace thigh garter with silver gemstones that spelled "Mrs. Grant". It had a ribbon to tie.
"Thanks, I love it," Olivia said as she took it from the box. "It's perfect."
"So, how does it feel to be a married woman?" Abby asked.
Olivia tied the garter around her thigh. "I can't believe I even wavered for a second."
Abby laughed, "It was just nerves. I knew you wanted to marry him."
Olivia fixed her dress and stood. "I'm ready."
Fitz was in his office with Richard, Tabitha and, Karen. The twins were with Bonnie and Sara in the nursery. Tabitha sat on the couch and Karen plopped down beside her. There was a knock on the door.
"That's never good," Fitz said with a chuckle. "Come in."
One of his secret service agents opened the door. "Sir, the former first lady is here."
He sighed lightly but was determined not to ruin his mood. "You don't have to call her former first lady, Mellie Robinson is fine."
Karen stiffened, "I thought you said I didn't have to visit her this weekend Daddy?"
"You don't," Fitz said then he walked to the door to talk outside the presence of Karen. Once he was in the hallways he spoke, "Let me guess, this is her attempt at crashing the wedding?"
The agent smirked, "Sir, you ordered us not to turn her away when she shows up unexpectedly."
"It's alright, she wants you to turn her away so she can turn it into a media story. Let them take her to the reception, if she wants to sit for a few hours and watch me enjoy my beautiful wife then so be it."
The woman nodded and stepped away.
Fitz opened the door and stepped inside.
"Is she staying?" Richard asked.
"Yes, it's great to have Karen's mom celebrate with us. We're all a family after all," Fitz said with a smile.
There was a knock on the door again moments later. Fitz walked over and opened it. It was Olivia and Abby. She looked ethereal in her reception gown. Fitz stepped out and closed the door behind him once again before he pulled her against him and kissed her lips and grinned. "I'm glad you're wearing that lipstick that doesn't come off because I'm going to be kissing you all night."
Olivia blushed as he lifted her and kissed her again before he let her down. "God, you're stunning. It's ridiculous at this point."
"I know, right," she agreed as she did a little spin for him.
"Your dress is beautiful…I'm blown away." He touched the pearl beading, fascinated as he always had been with her fantastic taste in clothing. Since the day he'd met her in the gym of that random school in New Hampshire, she always carried herself so beautifully.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
She nodded. Fitz turned to Abby, "Richie's in there."
"It's okay as long as he stays away from me like he did earlier at the ceremony I'll be okay," she said with a smile.
Fitz nodded and opened the door. Karen ran to her immediately, "Oh my god Olivia- you look so pretty. I love your dress," she gushed.
Abby and Fitz walked in behind her.
Olivia smiled, "Thanks Kare. Are you ready to eat? I'm so hungry, I haven't eaten since breakfast."
"WHAT?" Fitz exclaimed.
Olivia bit her lips as she turned around to him. "Oops," she said with a chuckle.
"Honey, you can't go all day without eating," Fitz said.
"I know, I know," she said with a laugh. "I'm going to make up for it tonight. I promise." Olivia turned back to Karen, "Are you ready?"
Karen nodded, "are the twins coming too?"
"No, they're a bit too young for something like this," Olivia said.
"Alright, let's get out of here," Fitz said.
Tabitha and Richard stood and the group of them left for the reception. All their guests had arrived and when the concierge opened the large double doors to the reception room and Fitz and Olivia walked in, there was applause. In total, there were more than 50 guests and a few large tables of guests. The place settings were stunning, as was the decor of ivory and forest green and a deep chartreuse. The flowers were beautiful, as were the china and stemware. Servers were already walking around and filling glasses with champagne. There was a band playing smooth jazz music.
At the main table, Fitz and Olivia were at the head beside each other. Karen was beside Fitz and beside Olivia was Abby. Olivia was shocked when Mellie was just a few seats down and when Fitz saw her, he silently chastised himself for forgetting to tell Olivia. Tabitha was beside Karen and Richard was beside Tabitha.
Everyone else sat but Fitz and Olivia. He was handed a mic by the wedding planner. Fitz took a breath and wrapped his arm around her waist, holding her close to him as everyone waited for him to speak.
"I'm very happy this evening," he said into the mic. There was a low collective chuckle in response. "I married the love of my life today and now I get to eat and celebrate with my love, our friends, and family." He turned to Olivia. "I've never struggled with words. In fact, anyone who's seen a campaign speech of mine might realize I'm a bit of a yapper."
Olivia laughed, as did most others in the room. "But with you, I'm always at a loss for words," he said. "Every time I've attempted to find words to describe you, I scour my lexicon and I fall woefully short which is very frustrating. You are…painfully beautiful and so unbelievably smart, smarter than I could ever be." He said. "You are so kind and you love so selflessly and last but certainly not least, you are an amazing mother to all three of our daughters. I love you and I want everyone to raise their glass to celebrate you."
Fitz raised his champagne flute, Olivia raised hers as well. Everyone in the room raised a glass, even Karen with her sparkling apple cider. Mellie raised her glass and smiled through gritted teeth as she joined the toast.
"To Olivia," they all said.
Olivia blushed and wiped her eyes before her tears could fall. Fitz took a sip of champagne but she placed her glass back on the table without drinking. Mellie's mouth fell open as she watched Olivia, realizing that she was obviously pregnant again.
Fitz kissed her tenderly before they sat down together. Servers began dinner service.
The first course was an endive harvest salad with honeycrisp apples, goat cheese, walnuts, cranberries, heirloom tomatoes and a honey balsamic vinaigrette as well as another option of toasted bread with a burrata and grilled peaches and tomatoes. Olivia ate happily as she chatted with Fitz and their group around them. The second course came a short time later. There were two options, a pan-fried filet mignon with bone marrow reduction and the second option was grilled branzino with lemon and garlic beurre-blanc sauce. Olivia chose the fish and Fitz chose the steak. After the second course, both Fitz and Olivia moved to the table holding their large 4-tiered, lambeth-style wedding cake. It was cream with beautiful piping and edible pearls.
They cut the wedding cake together and as servers began taking out slices of the vanilla and rose-flavored cake from the kitchen, they made their way around the room to socialize. Others began moving around as well. As it got later into the night drinks began flowing. The adults in the room were laughing and talking. Mellie had been moving around the room, talking as well but never attempted to talk to Karen nor did Karen seem to mind. Tabitha turned to Karen, "It's getting late. I think it's time for you to head off to bed."
"But Tabitha, I'm having fun."
"This is turning into a grown-up party and there's nothing for you to do," she said. "We can watch a movie in your room. I leave for Santa Barbara tomorrow."
Karen groaned, "okay."
Tabitha stood, "Go tell your father and Olivia good night. Tell your mother too."
"Okay," she said grumpily as she went to do as she was told. Fitz and Olivia were across the room but she went to Mellie first. Mellie was in the middle of a conversation and Karen walked to her. "Excuse me mom," Karen said and she only called her mom because Mellie refused to answer to Mellie.
"Not right now, I'm in the middle of a conversation," she said as leaned over to Karen so her guest wouldn't hear.
Karen turned around and went to find Fitz and Olivia. They were at the other side of the room. When she walked to them, Fitz paused the conversation and both he and Olivia turned to her.
"How's the cake honey?" Fitz asked.
"It was good. Titi says I have to go to bed," she complained.
Fitz checked his watch. "Oh shit- yeah Kare, it's pretty late." He looked to find Tabitha and she was by the table.
Olivia stooped down and hugged her then kissed her cheek, "goodnight Karebear, I'll see you tomorrow okay."
Karen nodded. Fitz kissed her against her hair. "Don't be so pouty. We'll see you tomorrow alright honey."
She nodded and trudged off to Tabitha.
Fitz chuckled, "what's with kids and their hatred of sleeping. I fucking wish could go to bed at 8:30 on a weekday."
Olivia laughed, "right? Please put me in a sleepsack and give me a 90-minute nap in the middle of the day."
They shared a laugh and went back to their conversation. A short while later Mellie approached them.
"Congratulations," she said with a smile.
"Thank you," Fitz said.
Olivia nodded but didn't say a word.
"Both on the pregnancy and the wedding," Mellie clarified.
"Excuse me?" Olivia said.
"You didn't touch your champagne and you've been sipping water all night, meanwhile," she said as she motioned to Fitz. "This one's been babysitting a half glass of scotch all night. You don't want whiskey dick on your wedding night?"
Fitz laughed, "Oh brother. Why did you come?"
"I did you two a favor. We're supposed to be a big happy family, remember? Well, in a big happy family, the ex-wife gets invited to the wedding because we're trying to convince people that we actually get along and that you're not in fact marrying your mistress."
"Alright," Fitz said, annoyed as he took Olivia's hand in his and attempted to turn away. Mellie plastered a smile on her face and grabbed his arm to stop him, aware that guests were watching.
"Don't make a scene, people are watching."
Fitz turned back to her with a smile of his own, "then be careful about the words you use when you talk about my wife."
"Fine," Mellie said. "Let's just take a picture together so I can leave."
"No," Fitz said. "That's not necessary."
She let her facade drop and rolled her eyes. "Well, I don't need to remind you of the deal we made. Once the noise from the wedding settles, we need to meet to talk about my campaign."
"I'm looking forward to it," Olivia said with a smile.
Mellie huffed but nodded in agreement and turned and walked away.
"I'm sorry you have to deal with her," Fitz said. "And I'm sorry I forgot to tell you she showed up."
"It's alright," Olivia said with a chuckle. "I am ready to call it a night though…as soon as I get a slice of my wedding cake."
"Same here," he said. "We could probably take it back with us."
"That would be even better," Olivia said.
Fitz found a server and asked that they bring a few slices of cake and some drinks back to their bedroom. They made the rounds once again, this time it was to say goodbye. Before they left, Olivia went to find Abby, who was sitting with Andrew.
"Abby, I think we're gonna head out. I'll see you on Monday. Goodbye Andrew," Olivia said.
"Congratulations again," Andrew said.
Abby stood and hugged her. "We'll debrief on Monday."
Olivia nodded and then went to find Fitz before they headed out together. They went to the twins' nursery and as expected they were fast asleep. Luna was sleeping on her belly with her little butt poked up in the air while Lana was sleeping on her back with her feet poking through the bars of the crib. Olivia smiled as she stared down and Lana. Fitz smiled too and kissed Olivia against her hair. "Our perfect little girls," he said softly.
"They're all ours," Olivia agreed.
He wrapped his arm around her and caressed her belly. "You think we have a couple more perfect girls on the way?"
She smiled, "one perfect girl or one perfect boy."
"You really don't want another set of twins huh?" he teased lightly.
"No, and now I'm nervous because Tabitha sounded so sure. I think she jinxed me."
"Well, we'll find out on Monday, won't we?"
She nodded as they both turned and headed to the door. They went down to Karen's room and she was fast asleep. Tabitha had gone back to her bedroom.
They walked back to their bedroom. Fitz opened the door for Olivia and stepped in behind her then swept her off her feet. She squealed and laughed as she held on around his shoulders. He walked her over to the couch and sat her down before he sat as well.
"Wait," she said as she stood. "Our hands." Fitz stood as well and they both walked to the bathroom. Olivia washed her hands at the sink and Fitz followed before they returned to the couch. He kicked off his shoes and leaned back.
Their cake and drinks were on the coffee table in front of them. Olivia leaned back against the cushions and sighed. Fitz lifted her leg and slipped her white heels off one at a time. She flexed her toes. "That feels much better," she said with a smile.
"I don't know how you wear those all day. They seem painful," he said as he gently rubbed the bottom of her feet.
"They are…sometimes," she said as she slipped off her silk wedding dress cape attachment. She smiled because she was a bit ticklish on her feet and Fitz massaging them didn't help. She enjoyed him massaging her feet as she undid the pins in her hair. Once the pins were out she ran her fingers through her hair, massaging her scalp to help with the slight pain from all the pins pressing against her scalp. Her hair fell down her back as she did and then she turned her back to him and swept her hair from her back. "Now comes the tricky part," she said. "Undoing all the lacing in the back."
"It's a good thing I'm a very patient man then," he said as he undid the knot at the back of her corset then began undoing all the lacing. She smiled in response. "Thanks for rubbing my feet. I get so used to them hurting that sometimes I don't realize it…do you need me to do anything for you?"
He pulled the last strap loose and then wrapped his arms around her and held her against his chest. His hands planted firmly over her breasts, gripping them over her loosened corset.
'"The only thing I need from you tonight is for you to take my cock," he said.
She smirked as she stood and pushed her dress down then let it drop to her feet. She was wearing a white lace panty with the word 'bride' embroidered across the crotch along with her thigh garter. The sight of her excited him and he flushed red as his erection swelled. Olivia stepped out of her dress and climbed into his lap but he turned her around and sat her squarely in his lap. He was still fully clothed and didn't care. He pulled her against his chest and cupped her beautiful, supple breasts, squeezing them as he appreciated just how fucking amazing they were. His arousal grew and he was mad with lust.
Olivia pressed her ass hard against his erection and groaned. She couldn't wait to consummate her marriage. Fitz opened her legs on both sides of his before he slid his fingers into her panties while his other hand moved his face towards his and kissed her hungrily. He moved his fingers in between her lips, teasing her clit and massaging it as they kissed.
"Mmmm….Fitz," she moaned against his lips in between kisses. She reached behind her body and undid the hook of his tuxedo pants before she reached into his boxers and pulled his penis out. Fitz held her by the waist and raised her body before he pushed her panties down her thighs and slid into her then sat her back in his lap.
She moaned as she wrapped his arms around her body to feel his embrace. Fitz kissed her and they were still for a moment as she enjoyed the feeling of him inside her and he enjoyed the feeling of her around him. In the midst of kissing, he began to thrust slowly as he moved his hand against her pubic bone to put pressure on her clit. "Hmmm," she moaned against his lips when she felt his hands between her legs. His other hand squeezed her breasts and teased her nipples. She broke the kiss and moaned against his lips and she closed her eyes. Fitz took the opportunity to lick the crook of her neck before he sucked it.
She moaned breathlessly, caught up in her pleasure. Just the balls of her feet were touching the floor. She grabbed the fabric of the couch to gain purchase before she began bouncing up and down on his cock, riding him hard. "Fuckk," he moaned deeply from behind. He continued to thrust and held her waist to balance them both. Her breasts bounced up and down with the thrusting of their bodies. Her ass smacked against his thigh. She rode him hard, grinding her crotch on him. The pleasure was palpable. She was so wet and so warm. Fitz grabbed her tighter, bracing for his orgasm that he knew would quickly come.
Moments later, their explosive orgasms began. Olivia bit her lips and continued to ride him as her legs shook and she felt herself losing control of her muscles. Fitz held her and continued to thrust. Her walls swelled more and more until a gush of squirt sprayed from her legs and their orgasms peaked together.
They were both breathless in the winddown. Olivia stood and as Fitz slid out of her, she felt cum running down her inner thighs. She turned and climbed onto him again, this time straddling him. She leaned against his chest and kissed him. Fitz smiled as he wrapped his arms around her waist. He was completely spent. Olivia began to unbutton his white tuxedo shirt. Fitz stared at her with a smirk. "You know I have nothing left in the tank right?"
She chuckled, "I figured you would, considering the fact that you barely slept last night."
When she finished undoing his shirt, he sat up and pulled it off then Olivia stood and Fitz stood as well and slipped off his tuxedo pants. Olivia walked to the bathroom and Fitz followed. She took off her panties and garter before she walked to the shower. Fitz pushed off his boxers and followed her.
They took a quick shower together. Olivia washed her hair to get all the hair gel and other products out. It took some time for her to get all the makeup off her face, from the waterproof eyeliner to the waterproof mascara.
When they finished bathing together, they headed to their closet to dress. She had a towel wrapped around her hair because she was too tired to blow dry it. As they were heading back to the bed, Olivia remembered their wedding cake.
"Baby, we didn't touch the cake at all. I can't let my wedding day pass without having some cake," she said as she walked to the coffee table. She lifted one of the plates and noticed it was wet. "Why is it wet?" she asked.
Fitz walked to her and looked down at the plate then he looked at the table and realized why it was wet as well.
He smirked.
"That's your squirt," he said.
Olivia gasped. "No, it's not."
He laughed, "You're a fucking gusher."
She slapped his arm playfully and put the plate back on the table. "I'm not a gusher," she defended.
Fitz lifted her and wrapped her legs around his waist as he walked her to their bed. "What would you call squirting so much you soaked a coffee table and two slices of cake?"
"An accident," she said with a chuckle.
He laughed as he laid her in bed and then he remembered. "Wait- I have something for you."
Olivia sat up and watched as he walked to their closet. He returned moments later with a white box wrapped in a white box. He plopped down on his side of the bed beside her and placed it on her lap.
"What's this?" she asked.
"It's your wedding gift," he said.
"I didn't know we were exchanging gifts…I didn't get you anything."
"This isn't a gift exchange," Fitz said. "You're already out of my league so it's a fucking crime for you to buy me a present on top of marrying me."
She rolled her eyes and smiled.
"Open it," he said.
She sat up and untied the bow around the box then she opened it. There was a stunning, vintage festoon diamond necklace inside. Her eyes opened wide at the beauty of it.
"It belonged to Princess Grace of Monaco," he said. "It's vintage Cartier. I thought you'd like it."
"Like it?" she said. "I love it." She leaned over and kissed him deeply. "You know me so well."
"Well…" he began. "I can't take too much credit. I found this shopper who'd studied everything you've worn and came up with an entire presentation on things you'd like. She highly recommended this."
"I have to meet her. She needs to shop for me if she knows me well and we've never met."
She inspected the necklace before taking it out of the box and clasped it around her neck then placed the empty box on the nightstand. She leaned against his chest and threw her leg over his then snuggled against his chest.
She drifted off to sleep soon after but as Fitz laid there, exhausted, he realized he couldn't sleep.
He moved their position so he was spooning her and caressing her belly. She never stirred. After lying for a while longer he finally drifted off to sleep.
They enjoyed their Sunday together and finally on Monday morning, after readying themselves for the day and sending Karen off to school, they brought the twins to Bonnie and headed off to the White House doctor's office. The obstetrician Fitz secured for her was there with his physician's assistant to perform Olivia's first pregnancy checkup. Olivia made a mental note to let Fitz know that going forward, she wanted a woman as her obstetrician but for now, the doctor he secured would do. After the preliminary checkup by the doctor, they moved to the second exam room where the sonogram machine Fitz secured was.
Abby arrived as they were moved to the ultrasound room. It was still early in the morning. Olivia stepped on the exam table and pulled her sweater up her belly. Fitz was beside her and Abby was standing against the wall to give them some space but Olivia invited her there and insisted she come. Abby was there for her the first time and just because Fitz was there now, didn't mean she didn't want Abby there again, the same way she would want to be there for Abby.
As they waited for the doctor to begin, Abby took out her phone and began recording the moment, remembering how Olivia had mentioned more than once that she wished she had a recording of the moment she found out she was carrying twins at her doctor's appointment.
The doctor took the ultrasound probe after the machine had been prepped by his physician's assistant. He squeezed some warmed ultrasound jelly on her stomach before he slid the probe across her belly in search of a heartbeat and a small dot on the screen.
Olivia turned to Fitz and smiled excitedly. "Here it comes," she said.
The doctor moved the probe down to her lower belly and moments later a heartbeat was audible. Olivia smiled again and when she looked up at Fitz, he was beaming with happiness. "Look, there is it," Fitz said happily as the small dot appeared on the 2D sonogram screen.
Olivia turned to the screen then another dot appeared. She screamed. Fitz's mouth went from a smile to falling wide open. Olivia covered her mouth.
"So, it seems we're having another multiple pregnancy," the doctor said as he moved the probe around. "Not identical this time," he said as he pointed to the screen. "We have two different placentas."
Olivia felt like she was losing her breath. She was hoping for a single pregnancy but how could she not be happy with two. She was overwhelmed when she found out she was having twins last time around but then Lana and Luna were perfect and not at all how she imagined having twins would be. She took a breath and looked up at Fitz. He seemed shocked and happy.
"I can't handle two again," she said with a nod, mostly to herself.
Fitz nodded and smiled. "Two babies in two pregnancies. How's that for overachieving?"
"-Oh wow, I…think there's another one," the doctor said.
When she heard it, it felt like everything slowed. She looked at the screen and there were three dots on the screen. She suddenly couldn't pull air into her nostrils and her breathing became labored. "Livie," Fitz said, trying to calm her down. "It's okay, just take a deep breath."
It didn't help, moments later, she passed out. Abby's mouth fell open as she rushed over and cut off her phone.
"Olivia," Fitz called as he realized what was happening. "Livie? Dr. Dean?"
The doctor moved the ultrasound probe quickly and both he and his physician's assistant moved to Olivia within seconds.
He strapped a pulse monitor to her finger and a blood pressure cuff to her arm.
"She's okay," he said quickly as he gently began to nudge her. Just a few nudges and Olivia opened her eyes, disoriented.
"Get her some water," he said to his assistant, who quickly went to retrieve a bottle. The doctor wiped the jelly from her belly quickly. "I need you to take a deep breath," the doctor said. "Can you do that for me?"
Olivia pulled in a deep breath then let it out.
"You're okay," the doctor said to Olivia then turned to Fitz, "she's okay, her pulse and bp are a little high but that's just the shock."
Fitz ran his hands against her hair, caressing her gently but he didn't speak to her to avoid her trying to speak before she had a moment to collect herself. The assistant returned with water seconds later and opened the bottle before handing it to Olivia. "Drink some, it will help," the doctor said.
Olivia took a sip.
"How are you feeling?" The doctor asked after she took a few sips of water.
"Better," she answered.
"That's good," he said with a slight chuckle, "although I'm afraid to continue."
"No, I'm okay," she said.
"Are you sure?" Fitz asked.
Olivia nodded. He removed the bp cuff and pulse monitor.
"Okay," the doctor said. "I need to continue the sonogram to check if there are any more fetuses in there. I know three came as a shock to you. Four is highly, highly unlikely but it is possible. I have to ensure that you do in fact only have three."
"Are you sure?" Fitz asked. "I mean she just passed out."
"Fitz, it's okay," Olivia said.
Fitz nodded. The doctor began the procedure again by squirting a blob of ultrasound jelly on her belly and running the probe across her belly. As he moved all over her belly three small dots were visible. He moved lower, ensuring he got a good image of her entire uterus but there were only three fetuses.
"Alright, we have fraternal triplets," he said as he turned off the machine. "No more."
Olivia let out a breath. Abby was stunned. Fitz was concerned, based on Olivia's reaction.
"I think you should have some time to sit with this and I can see you again in a week. Right now, I'll have my p.a. deliver you some prenatals to begin taking immediately."
Olivia shook her head, "Yes thank you but I'm alright, I was just shocked but I think we should discuss it all right now."
The doctor nodded and grabbed his stool across the room. He sat and scooted closer to her. "With a former twin pregnancy, naturally conceived and another multiple pregnancy also naturally conceived, I would like to run tests to confirm this eventually but I'm positive you may have hyperovulation, which is a condition where your body releases multiple eggs. This is quite harmless except for the possibility of having multiple fetuses when pregnant in your case a twin and a triplet pregnancy...currently. I say currently because it is still early and…I want to say this as tactfully as possible…there is a risk of miscarriage of one, two or all of the fetuses."
Olivia nodded, "is there anything I can do to try to lessen that risk?"
"Truly, most miscarriages are not preventable but I would advise a healthy diet, minimizing stress where possible and I don't believe this applies to you but avoiding smoke, drugs and, alcohol."
Olivia nodded and let out a breath. "With my daughters, I went into labor earlier, I'm guessing that would apply here as well?"
"Yes, in fact, it will be earlier than it was with your daughters," he said as he moved to the computer to check the file he had on Olivia. "With your daughters, you delivered around 36 or 37 weeks, with triplets it'll be more likely around 32-35 weeks so much earlier."
"But they'll be okay?"
"They will probably have a few weeks stay in the NICU but if all goes well they will be okay," he answered.
She let out a heavy sigh and leaned back against the chair.
"Okay," Fitz said. "Maybe we should stop here."
Olivia finally agreed with a nod.
The doctor agreed as well before he and the physician assistant stepped out of the exam room to the adjoined office. Fitz helped Olivia to lean up and then he pulled her sweater over her belly.
Abby didn't know what to say. Olivia stood from the exam table and stepped down.
"You wanna watch the video of you passing out?" Abby asked playfully. "It's fucking hilarious."
Olivia laughed, "Yeah, let me see it."
Abby opened her phone and played the video. Olivia watched it and burst into a laugh. "Oh my god- that's so fucking embarrassing."
Abby laughed. "As long as you admit it. I can't wait till they're all old enough for me to tell them how you fucking fainted when you found out you were having triplets."
Olivia guffawed, "I'm going to have a seance tonight to pray for you to get pregnant. I can't suffer alone."
Abby laughed, "you better not!"
"I am," Olivia insisted, "and I'm gonna force Fitz to join me."
Fitz smiled and nodded. He was worried for a moment but it seemed the shock was wearing off. "How are you feeling?" Fitz asked. "I know you were hoping for just one."
"I'm still processing it. I wasn't expecting triplets and all that comes with that…I mean…twins and triplets...5 babies and then even if all goes well with the triplets they'll be in the NICU…there's just a lot I have to think about and prepare myself for."
"I know but we'll do it together," Fitz said as he wrapped his arms around her. "I know I'm not the one who has to deal with physically carrying them so I won't know what that's like or even be able to understand it but any and everything you want, you let me know and I'll give it to you."
Olivia nodded and smiled then leaned up and kissed his lips softly. "Thank you for saying that."
Fitz wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly and kissed her again. "You have a press conference," Olivia said. "And I have some planning to do for your campaign."
"Are you sure you don't need some time? I can cancel the conference-"
"You don't have to do that," she said. "I'm okay and I need to debrief with Abby as well."
"Yes," Abby said.
Fitz relented and then kissed her again before he stepped off but stopped moments later. He turned to her. "We'll have lunch together," He suggested.
Olivia nodded.
Fitz finally headed down to the west wing to begin his day. Abby and Olivia headed to the East Wing. The moment Olivia plopped down on the couch and Abby did the same, Abby began. "Okay, how do you really feel?" Abby asked.
"Stressed," she said with a sigh. "I feel like I'm gonna lose myself in motherhood with all these babies and I feel so shitty thinking it and saying it but it's hard not to feel that way…I mean the twins are barely toddlers and if I have a healthy pregnancy and give birth to three babies I'll literally have 5 babies under two years old. Having three newborns means I'll have to give them all my attention instead of Lana and Luna who are literally still babies in diapers. I wouldn't have gotten pregnant so soon if I thought I'd have triplets. Tell me if I'm being selfish or If I'm wrong?"
"You're not being selfish Olivia. Twins and then triplets so soon after would be alot for anyone."
"Right," she said exasperated. "I just want to give all of my babies the love and attention they deserve and it feels like that will be hard to do with all of them needing so much at the same time. One is great, it's perfect. Two is extra but I can handle it, I've done it before and once you get into a routine it's easy even…but three. Three babies? Three babies Abby. I can't even wrap my mind around it and I know I said the same thing with the twins but this is different. It's three and I'm freaking the fuck out because I already feel overwhelmed."
"You know you have to tell him right?"
"No," she said. "He's so excited and me passing out at the news didn't exactly convince him I was happy…I managed to clean it up a bit but fuck, I'm not telling him I'm scared. Once I get used to the idea then I'll be fine and it's actually a good thing because now I won't have to get pregnant again because I'll have 5 and I'll be done."
"Is now a good time to tell you that I'm not pregnant?" Abby said. "I took the test."
Olivia laughed, "it is a good time actually. Your good news is my good news."
"Yes, I dodged a fucking bullet," Abby said. "But we did sleep together after the wedding," she said. "We used protection though and I didn't tell him about the pregnancy scare."
"It's none of his business," Olivia said.
"You're gonna hate me when I say this but after seeing Richard on your wedding night..I hate myself for this but I missed him. I want so badly to be over him and I made such an effort to hate him that the one second I didn't he just got to me," she said.
"Listen, if anyone knows how you feel it's me," Olivia said with a chuckle. "Hating a man is a full-time job. You can't take a day off or you'll end up like me."
"Happy?" Abby asked.
Olivia shook her head, "I wasn't sure where I was going with that. That was a bad example."
"Do you ever regret forgiving him?" she asked Olivia.
"Honestly, no. I don't regret it at all," Olivia answered.
Abby sighed, "I just need to avoid him completely. I can't be around him."
"You won't have to see him anytime soon," Olivia said.
They continued to chat about the wedding before Olivia had to force herself to work on the campaign to take her mind off her triplet pregnancy. Promptly at noon, Fitz texted her to meet him for lunch. She headed back to the residence and met him in her bedroom. He was on the balcony and there was a beautiful lunch spread for them of sandwiches and salads and lemonade.
Fitz stood to greet her with a kiss. Olivia wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly before they sat together.
She kicked off her heels and folded her legs on the couch. "Are you hungry?" Fitz asked.
"I'm starving, actually," she said as he took the melted turkey club sandwich and bit into it.
Fitz sighed, "Is it too early to ask how you really feel about being pregnant with triplets..I have a feeling you weren't being completely honest with me earlier."
She shook her head as she placed her sandwich back on the table. "I just need to get used to the idea of having triplets…"
"That sounds like bullshit," he said. "That's not telling me anything about how you're actually feeling."
"Okay, okay," she relented. "I really do feel overwhelmed okay but I know you're excited and I know we planned this so it's complicated. I want my babies and I love them already, I really do but three is more than I planned for. Lana and Luna are still just babies and they will be when I give birth. Luna still screams and cries every time I leave a room…I mean it's just a lot and I'm processing it and maybe once they get here it won't feel as daunting but right now, it's fucking scary."
"5 kids under two years old is definitely more than I thought we'd have," Fitz said with a chuckle. "But I'm fucking ecstatic. I know triplets are a lot more than we bargained for but I think we'll be alright. I hope saying this doesn't make you feel like I'm not taking all your fears seriously, I truly understand how you feel but once they're here, we'll be more than okay. We'll tackle it together and I already know I won't get an ounce of sleep and I'm okay with that. Just think about...three babies, exactly the same age, rolling around on their playmat, pulling each other's hair, and stealing each other's pacifiers."
She smiled and snuggled against his chest. "I needed to hear that," she said. "I need you to be positive. I plan to whine for my entire pregnancy, are you prepared."
Fitz kissed her against her hair and hugged her tighter. "I am prepared to hear plenty of whining, after all, that's your right."
She smiled and nodded in agreement.
