Okay. This is it. Writers block over. I've decided enough is enough, I don't want to hold off on this anymore.
Disclaimer: I own nothing!
"Just hold on…the ambulance will be here any moment…"
I don't recognise the voice around me.
He should be here.
The world around me seems to be floating by and I can't grab hold of it. Black seeps through the edges of my vision and I can feel it beginning to take over. Something is keeping me here. Something is stopping me from fading into the darkness.
A hand holding mine.
"Just hold on…"
He should be here?
The black is beginning to take over and I don't know how much longer I'm going to be able to fight it.
"Alright so don't tell him I said this but Jesse may have been right about this place." Looking round at the bar I know Brian's right. From the outside it didn't look like much but it was exactly the kind of place that was made for us. Fancy restaurants and the works just aren't us. Somewhere like this is much more our speed.
"Yeah you're not wrong." His hand hasn't left mine for the last few hours and it feels amazing. Thankfully this isn't the kind of place that seems overly bothered by the two of us being together, not that we'd really care if they did but it's nice having somewhere to go. "Although I have to say this isn't how I imagined our first date going."
"Yeah. For one I wouldn't spend the night talking about Jesse." Laughing at my words he tosses a napkin in my direction before gesturing the barman for another round. "And of course we would have had our first date a long time ago instead of after we've been together for all this time."
"Well yeah that would have been high on my list too. Didn't really get much choice there did we?" That sobers us both up for a moment.
"Not really." And that's kind of the point isn't it? Our relationship started out so odd and moved so quickly. We didn't really get a lot of choice in anything. "Is that a problem?"
"What do you mean?" I'm not stupid. I know he found it difficult when he first moved here.
"The way we started out. Wasn't exactly normal was it?" That's one hell of an understatement. Nothing about our relationship had been normal so far.
"Just because it wasn't normal doesn't mean it was bad. Quick maybe."
For a minute I say nothing but eventually I can't stand it anymore. I have to know the truth, I just have to.
"Look Brian I'm not dumb okay. I know you found it hard when you first moved out here. Those first few days you were having doubts, weren't you?" He hesitates before he speaks and I can tell he would rather we change the subject but I have to know. "Brian, please just tell me the truth."
Sighing he eventually speaks.
"Yes. I was." The silence around us is deafening and his words echo in me head. "For those first few days I was definitely having doubts. It's just we moved really quickly, like really quickly. I mean Vince do you realise we were only together for six weeks before all this happened. Six weeks. In that time we up rooted both of our lives just so we could be together. That's a hell of a lot of pressure. So yeah. When I first moved here I questioned whether we'd moved too quickly, whether we'd jumped into something that wouldn't work out."
As hard as that is to hear I can see the weight lifting off of his shoulders as he talks.
"But then I realised something. The longer I was here the more I realised that this is what I wanted. You, the others, the garage…everything it just feels right. So yeah I did have some doubts when I first came out here but they're gone now."
"So no more locking yourself in the bathroom to hyperventilate? Yeah that's right I know that's what happened." Ducking his head he blushes slightly. Does he really think I didn't notice that stuff?
"No. No more."
The ringing of my cell phone is enough to interrupt us. I should probably ignore it but if there's one thing I've learnt over the years is to always answer your phone.
"Leon what the hell do you want?"
"Letty's in the hospital." Wait, what? Those words make my blood run cold.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Across the table Brian's eyebrows knit together.
"Something happened at the garage and she's in the hospital. It's bad man."
"Where's Dom?" Gesturing to the waiter he quickly makes about getting the bill together as Brian and I grab our coats.
"He's with me at the hospital. You guys got to get here now."
"We're on our way. Which hospital?" As he rattles off the address I pull open the car door, grateful I'd decided to drive here.
"What's wrong?" He questions as we pull out of the restaurant and immediately begin speeding down the highway.
"Something happened, Letty's in the hospital."
I've lost count of the number of times I've paced the length of the waiting room now. Pausing in my path I take a moment to glare at the door, as if my staring could solve all the problems of the world. When nothing happens after a moment I take to pacing again.
"You called Vince?" Leon jumps slightly as I speak having apparently spaced out.
"Yeah. He and Brian are on their way. I called Jesse too he's making his way from the house. I tried calling Mia but I only got her voicemail." Right. They know, they're on their way.
For a few more minutes the room descends into silence once more as I pick my pacing up again.
"Dominic Toretto?" Spinning around I find myself coming face to face with two police officers.
"Yeah that's me."
"We'd like to ask you a few questions about what happened at the garage tonight." Taking a seat I find my gaze flickering between the two officers and the door. "This won't take a moment."
"What do you need to know?"
"Well lets get the first question out of the way. Where were you when the attack happened?" I can feel my blood instantly beginning to boil but I force myself to calm down. They're just asking questions.
"I was picking up Leon." Gesturing to the man sat at my side he nods his head.
"Yeah. My car came off the road and I couldn't get it to start so I called Dom. He swung by to pick me and the car up." Both of them make notes before they speak again.
"Can you think of anyone who might have motive to go after Miss Ortiz?" The female officer looks up from her notebook as she speaks.
"No. No one I can think of. You think was a robbery?" A robbery? How could a robbery end up like this?
"It could have been but we can't be sure if anything's missing from the garage. We'd need someone to come and take a look?" No way am I leaving here. I could send Leon but right now I can't be left alone. No way.
"We can deal with that." The voice from the door has us all looking up. Seeing my brother there makes me almost sigh in relief. "How's Letty?"
"Doc's are still working on her but they haven't said anything yet." Vince takes a seat on my other side as one of the officers speaks.
"I'm sorry you two are?"
"Oh I'm Brian O'Connor and this is Vince Schulze. We work at the garage with Dom. Listen Jesse called us on the way he's almost here. When he gets here I'll grab him and we can head over to the garage and do an inventory. We'll see if anything's missing."
"We'd appreciate that Mr O'Connor."
"Thanks Brian." It's not enough but it's about all I can say right now.
"What the hell happened?"
Isn't that the number one question?
Woo! I did it! I actually sat down and wrote something. Okay so this is far from my best work but it's written and it's out there now. I can't sit staring at a screen any longer.
Until next time,
