A party without cake is just a meeting – Julia Child

I woke up on a Saturday morning, feeling as though something was amiss. My brain scrambled to figure out what was going on. The usual pressure from on my waist was missing, as was my personal heater.

I was slightly confused because my husband of ten years had been acting weird for the past couple of weeks. He'd disappear without any warning once or twice a week. This had become a recurring event, and I was growing a little bit concerned.

XXOXXXOXX

For the next week I watched Carlos' every move, trying to figure out what he was keeping from me. Our anniversary wasn't for another five months, and neither was it anywhere close to our birthdays, so a surprise party was out of question.

I knew that whatever he was doing wasn't dangerous or life threatening because he always came back looking a little happier. The secrecy was driving me crazy.

Finally, my curiosity got the better of me, and I downloaded a tracker app on his phone. He was none the wiser as it just worked in the background.

The next day, like clockwork my plan was put into motion. He left the house, and ten minutes later, his tracker stopped. I grabbed my keys and headed out, puzzling over the location.

I arrived at the location, and took a moment to get my bearings straight. My husband was sitting in a corner booth eating a stack of pancakes, dripping with syrup and topped with whipped cream. I stood there, my mouth gaping open as I took in the sight. For a moment I considered that I may be hallucinating, but the shocked and tad guilty expression on his face when he looked up said otherwise.

"Babe…" he seemed to be at loss.

I walked over, leaned in and kissed the blob of whipped cream off his chin.

With a sigh he asked "Will you still love me when I'm fat?" he seemed genuinely concerned.

I couldn't help but laugh "Yeah, as long as you share those pancakes with me. They look amazing."

The perks of being married I guess, you never know what life will bring you. He didn't have to sneak off to eat desserts alone anymore, we both did it together. Leaving the kids with a slightly confused Lester every week.
