Chapter 23. Moving Forward
"I can't believe it's been a whole month since Beacon fell." Naruto mumbled softly, while he was alone in the kitchen of the Xiao Long household.
Well alone wasn't exactly true.
'Yes it's hard to imagine.' Ren spoke up within Naruto's mind. 'But how are you faring? You've kept to yourself for this last month. You've practically shut everyone besides Nora out, but I guess that's not anything new.'
"I'm fine." Naruto grumbled in response, while his hands began to chop vegetables at a remarkable pace.
'If you say so.'
Naruto rolled his eyes and tossed the chopped vegetables into a skillet. "I don't need whatever lecture you're trying to give me."
'Sure you don't.'
Naruto's eyebrow twitched. "Could you please just shut up?"
'And where is the fun of having a voice in your head that doesn't talk?'
"I don't need fun." Naruto replied in a dry voice, while he continued to cook at a decently fast pace.
'Well if you wish to talk you know where to find me.' Ren pointed out softly, before his voice went silent and Naruto was left with his own thoughts.
This of course made the bandit sigh and grab a few eggs before cracking them into a bowl. Then as Naruto began to stir the eggs he glanced around the kitchen, as the room was empty. Considering it was early in the morning and nobody was awake at this moment in time. However, just like every morning Naruto was the first one awake and the one who would cook for everyone. Since everyone had settled in and made the area around the Xiao Long household their living quarters.
Ruby and Yang remained in their rooms for their sleeping arrangements, while Weiss bunked with Ruby in her room. Considering the Ice Queen didn't wish to sleep outdoors in a tent like the rest of the former student's did. Meanwhile Qrow slept in the guest room of the house and Raven had oddly enough occupied Taiyang's old room. This of course left Raven's tent open for Naruto and Nora. Who shared the massive tent together, while also having a small companion share their tent with them.
This companion was Taiyang's dog Zwei, who missed his old master and would be found sneaking off to Taiyang's grave every once in awhile to sulk. However, Zwei had taken a close fondness to Naruto and the young Fox Sin of Greed attributed that to his likeness to his father.
Speaking of Zwei, while Naruto continued to cook breakfast a soft patter of tiny footsteps reached his ears. Causing the young blond who was wearing nothing besides a pair of sweatpants to glance over his shoulder to see Zwei happily trotting his way to Naruto's side.
"Hey boy." Naruto greeted in a cheerful voice, while he bent down and allowed Zwei to jump against his body. "Wants some food?"
Zwei began to wag his tail and lick Naruto's exposed torso. This of course made the Fox Sin of Greed smile and ruffle the top of Zwei's head.
"Here take this." Naruto began, while he grabbed a slice of bacon and tossed it to the small dog. The latter of whom easily caught the bacon in midair and gobbled it down in seconds.
"Good morning!" The voice of Nora yawned softly, while the young beautiful Maiden sombered her way into the kitchen dressed in nothing besides a pink bra and a matching pink thong. "What's for breakfast?"
Naruto smiled and watched Nora pull out a wooden chair from the dining table and flopped herself onto the seat. "A little bit of everything." The Fox Sin of Greed began, while he maneuvered over to Nora and gave her a soft peck on the lips. "And shouldn't you put a little more clothes on? There is other people around here after all."
"Oh I'm fine." Nora declared in a flirty tone, while she pushed her hand against Naruto's exposed chest. "Besides this is about the same amount of clothes as I normally wear these days."
Being pushed back by Nora, Naruto grinned and looked at the massive crimson boar on his girlfriend's neck. Something that Naruto and Nora didn't know the origin of, but the young couple both had crimson marks and they were bound to discover what the meant eventually. However, doing so wasn't high on their list of priorities. Considering the most important thing to them was preparing themselves to find the other Maidens and Relics to kill Salem with.
"That's fair, but you just wait there and keep looking sexy." Naruto instructed, while he slowly walked back over to the countertop and began to cook once more. "I'll have food ready soon."
"Sounds wonderful." Nora replied before the sound of footsteps caused her to glance to the side. Where a blushing Weiss and Ruby were staring her down with wide eyes. "Oh hey you two, good morning!"
"N-Nora why are you in your underwear?" Ruby asked in a flustered voice, while Nora's face twisted into a devilish grin.
"Oh me and Naruto just finished having sex on the countertop over there!" The Winter Maiden lied without any shame behind her voice whatsoever.
Weiss looked absolutely appalled and Ruby looked like she was about to explode in embarrassment. Naruto on the other hand turned and looked at Nora with an annoyed stare.
"We eat here! That's revolting!" Weiss yelled loudly.
"We didn't have sex in the kitchen." Naruto deadpanned in an emotionless voice, which made Nora snicker and wave her hand in the air.
"Oh that's right, my bad." Nora replied in a carefree and bubbly voice, while she rested her right hand onto her cheek. "I forgot we had sex last night in our tent. I can be so forgetful at times!"
Steam was practically rolling out of Ruby's ears, as she was hearing things that she really didn't want to hear.
"If I give you food will you stop?" Naruto asked in an exhausted voice.
"Hmmmm some of your marvelous cooking would keep me occupied for a little bit." Nora replied with a wide eyed smirk.
Slapping some food onto a plate, Naruto sighed and quickly placed the food in front of his glutton of a girlfriend. The latter of whom dug mercilessly into Naruto's cooking without so much as a warning.
"Well why don't you two take a seat." Naruto began, while he walked back over to the countertop. "It's best you get something to eat before Nora finishes her food and starts her teasing again."
Ruby and Weiss compiled without question, but kept their focus on Nora. As the girl was eating like she hadn't been fed in weeks. However, not much longer after they took their seats at the table Naruto quickly placed two plates before the girl's. This of course made Ruby smile wide, which was a rare sight for the girl these days.
"Thanks Naruto." Ruby spoke up, which made Naruto grin and ruffle her hair.
"Anything for you kiddo." Naruto replied in a happy voice.
Weiss watched this interaction and took a bite of her food, while a large blush filled her face. It was commonly known that her and Naruto didn't get along well. However, she quickly learned that her blond haired nemesis was a better cook than anyone she had ever met. Though because Weiss and Naruto didn't get along the prideful girl would never allow Naruto the satisfaction of knowing she loved his cooking.
"Well you could have done a little better." Weiss spoke up in an arrogant voice. "It's just as disgusting as always."
"Well how about I give yours to Nora?" Naruto purposed in an annoyed voice, while Nora's eyes grew stars.
"Gimme, gimme, gimme!" The Boar Sin of Gluttony yelled loudly, as she reached out for the plate of food that Weiss had.
"As if!" Weiss yelled back, while she lifted up the plate and held it away from Nora. "I need my three meals a day regardless of how they taste."
Naruto scoffed at Weiss and walked back over to the counter. "You've obviously never had my mom's cooking. Trust me everything that woman does has the intent to kill. I've only lived this long by learning to take care of myself. That's why I can actually cook worth a damn."
Weiss and Ruby both seemed to absorb the information they were given, as it was another small glimpse into Naruto's past with Raven. Nora on the other hand slammed her head onto the table and held her empty plate up.
"I want more!" The busty and half naked girl whined loudly, forcing an audible sigh from Naruto.
"Anything for you Nora." Naruto mumbled softly, while he placed a new plate down for Nora and took her first one away. "But this is the last one! You have to save some for everyone else."
Nora winked and twirled a fork in her fingers before pointing the utensil at Naruto. "Are you sure about that? I could make it worth your while my greedy little boyfriend."
Naruto returned Nora's flirting with a cocky grin. "I don't bargain, I'm a bandit after all. I just take what I want."
Nora hummed softly and looked Naruto up and down. "Oh me, oh my, i'll remember that."
Taking a seat across Nora, Naruto smiled and began to relax. "I'm sure you will."
Giving a soft eye smile and no response, Nora began to dig into her food once more. Something that caught the attention of Weiss, who looked at the girl up and down with a small hint of jealousy.
"I just don't get it." Weiss mumbled softly, but loud enough for Ruby to hear.
"What are you talking about Weiss?" The youngest of the group asked, which earned all eyes on her.
"Well don't take this the wrong way, but you eat like a pig Nora. However, you're still one of the most beautiful girls I've ever met." Weiss explained, while she looked at the girl boldly displaying her body for everyone to see. A body that every young woman dreamed of having.
Nora scratched the side of her head and chuckled. "Thanks Weiss, I appreciate the compliment. It means more than you would know."
"Wait you do?" Weiss asked in a surprised voice.
Nora cocked a small half smile and slowly played with her food. "I've always dealt with a lot of self confidence, but Naruto and more so Raven helped me overcome those feelings."
"B-but you're perfect!" Ruby shouted loudly, making the older girl smile wide. "I wish I could look more like you."
"Thanks Ruby, but just remember everyone has their own demons. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they are not there." Nora explained in a serious voice. "Just remember you're beautiful for who you are and always be yourself."
"Well this is great and all." Naruto began before standing up and taking a long yawn, showing that he had awoken with little to no sleep. "However, I got a project I need to get started on and I'm going to get a head start before everyone wakes up."
"Need any help?" Nora asked, while Weiss and Ruby looked at the young couple.
"Nah I'm good, but you're fine with what I plan to do with your weapon?"
Nora waved her hand in the air. "Yeah, it will go to better use with what you have in mind."
Naruto nodded and left the house, while Weiss and Ruby both looked confused at what was going on.
"Um Nora, what is Naruto doing?" Ruby asked softly, while Nora simply kept a neutral expression and went back to her food.
"Oh that's a surprise."

(With Blake)
Walking slowly through the makeshift bandit camp, Blake walked past Velvet and Coco's tent. Noticing that both girls were still asleep. Next the Faunus quickly passed the tent of the only original members of the tribe Ino and Vernal. Both of whom were outside their tent and eyeing the Faunus, which made the girl wave awkwardly at the duo. Ino of course smiled and returned the gesture, but Vernal simply scoffed and pretend to not see Blake.
However, not paying any more attention to the two Blake found her way to the edge of the camp. Where Sun Wukong could be found perched up on a tree branch with a defeated look on his face. Ever since the fall of Beacon and learning of the demise of his three best friends the normally bright and cheery monkey Faunus had never been the same.
"Sun!" Blake called out softly, which made the boy glance down to his fellow Faunus.
"Hey Blake." The boy replied with a soft and almost unseen smile.
"I've been looking for you, Naruto should have breakfast ready. Why don't we eat together?"
Sun nodded and jumped out of the tree and landed by Blake with ease. "Alright let's go." The blond began, while he and Blake began to walk to the house.
Frowning as she looked up to Sun, Blake began to slowly gravitate closer towards Sun. "You know if you wanna talk about anything I'm here for you."
There was a slight pause, as Sun glanced to his side and pondered over Blake's words. "I appreciate that." The monkey Faunus began in a low and appreciative tone. "But right now I'm not in the mood to talk."
"Oh I see." Blake replied with a dejected look, while at looking sadly to the ground. "I understand."
"Thanks, but just so you know this helps."
Blake lifted her brow in confusion. "What helps?"
Sun showed a smile that was reminiscent of the ones he used to show before the fall of Beacon. "Having you around, it means a lot to me."
"Well I'm not going anywhere soon." Blake replied quickly.
"I'll make sure of that." Sun repiled, as his words held more meaning than Blake knew. Considering he was bound and determined to protect those he cared for from falling the same fate as his team.

(With Jaune)
Taking deep and labored breaths, Jaune was currently hunched over and holding tightly onto his sword. Meanwhile a large wooden training dummy was currently hacked to pieces in front of him.
'I have to get stronger.' The blond leader of Team JNNP declared to himself, while he closed his eyes. 'I have to be able to protect the friends and family I still have.'
"Jaune." The sweet and caring voice of Pyrrha spoke up, while the redhead slowly walked into the secluded area where Jaune was training. "Why are you up so early? We haven't even had breakfast yet."
Dropping his blade against the ground and taking a deep sigh, Jaune turned to Pyrrha and gave the girl a weak smile. "I'm just trying to get stronger." The boy admitted, while he squared up against the dummy once more and raised his sword. "I won't be a burden to anyone anymore!"
Pyrrha frowned softly and inched ever so closely to the boy. "You're not a burden." The girl began in a sweet and loving voice, while she reached out and took Jaune's hands with her own. "Don't forget that you saved my life at Beacon. You should give yourself more credit."
"I got lucky." The leader of Team JNNP declared in a frustrated voice, while he looked to the ground. "If I was stronger we wouldn't have lost so many people. If only I was stronger Taiyang wouldn't have had to fight Salem for us to escape. If I wasn't so weak maybe I could have saved him and many more."
"You don't know any of that." Pyrrha replied before lifting Jaune's head up by pushing up on his chin. Then as she looked into the boy's eyes she smiled nervously. "Don't focus on the what if's, just keep moving forward."
Jaune nodded and leaned forward to capture Pyrrha's lips. Allowing the two teenagers to share a small intimate moment with one another. Showing how far their relationship has grown over the past month since the fall of Beacon.
"Will you keep moving with me?" Jaune asked, as he backed away and brushed Pyrrha's long crimson locks to the side.
"Of course." The Fall Maiden began with a large smile, while she leaned into Jaune and rested her head against his chest. "After all I have a lot of work to accomplish as a new Maiden. Nora and Raven make it seem so easy."
Jaune smiled and wrapped his arms around Pyrrha. "Well wanna help me train?"
Pyrrha nodded with a slight laugh. "After we get some breakfast, you need your energy after all."
"Alright Pyrrha I can agree to that."

(With Raven)
Stumbling out of Taiyang's bedroom, Raven found it difficult to walk in a straight line. Considering the throbbing sensation of her hangover combined with her drowsiness made it difficult to move. However, Raven had been through worst mornings and she eventually found her footing and began to maneuver her way through the house. Though she momentarily halted herself and stopped at the entrance to Yang's room. Allowing the mother of two to see her daughter perched upright and gazing out the bedroom window aimlessly.
This made the woman sigh, as the last month had taken a different toll on everyone within the makeshift tribe. Everyone had lost so much and some lost more than others, but for the most part everyone had something to fall back on. Naruto for example had Nora, who had helped him handle his father's death. Ruby had the support of her friend Weiss, who had managed to be a good shoulder to cry on. Much more so than the girl's father and Raven's younger brother Qrow. The latter of whom had been a drunken mess at the revelation of his best friends death.
Raven on the other hand couldn't say much about her siblings behavior, as she too had drowned her sorrows in alcohol. However, Raven was starting to notice that perhaps she should ease off the alcohol and self loathing over the loss of Taiyang. Considering her eldest daughter wasn't handling the situation very well and even seemed to have some PTSD from the battle of Beacon. Yang obviously needed someone to help her and Raven knew deep down as Yang's mother that responsibility fell to her. So taking one long deep breath Raven slowly stepped into Yang's room.
"Daughter." The bandit leader began in a plain and emotionless voice, which caused Yang to turn and meet her mother's gaze.
Yang waited for her mother to continue on, but she was left confused by the woman's sudden silence. Raven on the other hand clicked her tongue, as she didn't know what to say next. She had spent the majority of the last seventeen years only raising a boy. One who had a personality completely different from his sister, as Naruto was just like Raven. So despite Raven wanting to help her daughter she truly didn't know what to do.
"I've noticed you have been rather depressed lately." Raven took another pause. "Are you troubled over the events at Beacon?"
"How observant of you." Yang replied in an emotionless voice, while not even bothering to look to her mother. "Just go away. Leaving is the only thing you're good at."
Raven's eyebrow twitched in annoyance. "I smell breakfast, why don't we go see what your brother whipped up?"
"I'm not hungry." Yang declared without skipping a beat, which of course made Raven grind her teeth.
However, Yang's attitude and defiance made Raven come to a conclusion. If she couldn't be the loving mother Yang needed. She would be the person she was for Naruto. A drill sergeant that ripped the boy apart and built him back up into a stronger individual. Yeah it was time for some god damn training with mommy.
"Listen here you fucking brat!" Raven yelled loudly before kicking the floor in aggravation. "You can hate me all you want, but I'm sick of you laying around and wallowing in your own sadness."
"Just leave me alone!" Yang yelled back definitely.
Raven shook her head and grabbed Yang by the arm. "You know what? No breakfast for you, it's time you get some training with mommy." The woman yelled before throwing her daughter out of her bed and onto the floor.
Coming to a rolling stop, Yang glared up at her mother with anger. "What the hell you psycho bitch!"
"First rule of training with mommy, we don't talk about training with mommy." Raven began sternly before kicking Yang out of the room and into the hallway.
Coughing up some blood and slowly standing to her feet, Yang was about to strike back. Unfortunately for Yang her mother effortlessly grabbed her by the hair and began to drag her out of the house.
"Let go!" Yang yelled loudly, while she desperately kicked her legs and tried to break herself free. However, Yang quickly discovered she was absolutely helpless to defend herself from her mother.
Coming outside of the house, Raven quickly tossed her daughter forward and folded her arms. Her crimson gaze watching as the girl was practically fuming in anger.
"Fifth rule of training with mommy, insulting mommy earns a beating." Raven explained sternly, which made Yang stand to her feet.
"Fine you wanna go?" Yang yelled, while she brought up a single fist a took a stance. "I've waited seventeen years to kick your ass old lady!"
Raven stood completely still, while Yang ran forward with her arm held back for a punch. However, as Yang tossed her fist forward Raven caught the blow with one hand and punched Yang hard in the stomach with her free hand, which made the girl double over in pain. Raven then grabbed a handful of Yang's hair and lifted the girl's ear close to her lips.
"See this reckless nature is exactly why you lost your arm." Raven declared softly before she kicked Yang in the chest and sent the girl rolling away from her.
"I don't need your stupid advice." Yang spat out, while the girl stood to her feet and balled her single fist once more.
"Seventh rule of training with mommy, stupid brats don't speak they listen." Raven explained before she slowly stalked her way over to Yang.
Running forward once more, Yang tried to engage her mother close up again. However, Yang was quickly beaten down ruthlessly by her mother and tossed down face first before the woman's feet. Next without warning Raven slammed her foot against Yang's back and began to twist and bend Yang's remaining arm.
"Ahhhhh!" Yang shrieked in pain as her mother wasn't giving any leeway in the slightest.
"Perhaps you wish to lose your other arm? Or maybe an arm isn't enough? Maybe your sister or your little Faunus friend?" Raven growled in anger, while her burning red eyes glared down at her daughter. "Because if you keep this shit up you're gonna lose everything! This isn't a fucking fairytale or game Yang! This is real and you're gonna take this seriously or else!"
"Okay I get it, I'm sorry- ahh dammit!" Yang cursed once she felt her mother bend her arm even more.
"Fourth rule of training with mommy, never say sorry!" Raven barked out, which caused Yang to nod.
"I get it, please have mercy! Mercy!" Yang begged, but instead of Raven letting up the woman kept adding on the pressure and slammed her foot onto Yang's head. Resulting in the girl getting a face full of dirt.
"Ninth rule of training with mommy, you talk like a little bitch you get beat like a little bitch." Raven began before she smiled sadistically. "You want mercy than make me stop!"
"What is going on here!" The voice of Blake screamed in astonishment, which made Raven glance over to see the girl with Sun.
"Nothing at all." Raven replied simply, while she kept a hold on Yang's arm and her foot firmly on her daughter's head.
Blake was about to make a retort, but to her surprise Yang pushed her head up. "It's fine Blake, nothing is going on."
Blake was surprised, but instead of getting involved she merely walked into the Xiao Long household and left the mother and daughter alone. Raven on the other hand looked down at Yang with a wide smile.
"I'm surprised you didn't beg your little friend to help you." Raven admitted.
Trying her hardest to meet her mother's gaze, Yang looked at the woman with a bloody smile and a crimson gaze. "First rule of training with mommy." Was all the girl said, which made Raven chuckle to herself.
"You catch on much quicker than your brother." Raven admitted with pure excitement in her voice. "Oh I'll have plenty of fun with you. In fact I think you're ready for rule three already."

(With Naruto)
Naruto suddenly shuddered, as his whole body had a strong tingling sensation sweep over him.
"My training with mommy PTSD is kicking in." The Fox Sin of Greed mumbled in a nervous voice, while he almost dropped the small tools in his hands.
However, after a small moment Naruto regained his composure and returned to his task of attaching a few wires and soldering them together to complete a circuit. Though as he worked Naruto heard the flap to his tent open, followed by the sound of footsteps entering.
"So mom is beating the holy hell out of Yang outside." Nora revealed in a nervous voice, while the girl casually brought herself over to Naruto and took a seat on her boyfriend's lap.
Having his half naked girlfriend obstructing his work, Naruto snaked his arms around Nora and continued his best to focus. "Hey as long as it's her and not me I'm okay. I've had seventeen years of training with mommy. It's Yang's fucking turn."
Nora pressed her body tightly against Naruto's and looked down at the table the blond was working on. Noticing one of Yang's gauntlets, Taiyang's axe and her very own weapon all picked apart and scrapped for parts. Meanwhile in the center Naruto was working on what appeared to be the start of a prosthetic arm made from all three weapons.
"Can I help any?" Nora asked softly, while she watched Naruto's slow work. "I'm no genius, but I know a thing or two about mechanics."
"No I have this, but I do enjoy your company." Naruto replied in a matter of fact tone. "I do however have a question for you, well two questions actually."
"Well ask away!"
"Okay for starters what's up with you flaunting your um. . . Goods around everyone?" Naruto asked in a carefree voice, while he momentarily stopped working. "I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all about it, but don't you feel it's a little too much?"
Nora let a small frown slip by, while she wrapped her arms around Naruto's neck and nuzzled herself into the blond. "We've all been through a lot, but some of us have had it worse than others. My pain isn't as extreme as yours or Ruby's for example. So I act like a flirt and walk around like this to distract everyone I care about from their pain. I'm just doing my part to take care of those I love."
"Nora that's-. . ."
"Plus I love watching them all squirm in embarrassment." Nora revealed before kissing Naruto's cheek. "Especially when it's my cute little boyfriend that's squirming."
Naruto sighed with a small chuckle, his girlfriend was an oddball. However, she was one of the most caring and thoughtful people he knew. "I love you Nora."
"And I love you too Naruto." The Winter Maiden declared before smiling wide. "But what's your other question?"
"Well I was wondering if you were wanting to take off soon. It's been a month since Beacon fell and we haven't done much since then." Naruto explained, while he looked down to Nora with his crimson eyes and giving the girl is full attention. "I'm ready to move out and continue this fight."
"I am too, but we have to wait till mom says it's time." Nora began softly, while she took a small sigh. "If we rush things we could lose more people and I know you don't want that."
"Yeah you're right." Naruto replied softly, while he seemed to space out and his mind moved back to what Nora had said about helping people.
For Naruto's entire life he had been his mother's perfect ruthless soldier who didn't care for others at all. However, his time at Beacon did change him slightly and it also gave the blond a new outlook on life.
"You know Nora, about you acting like this to help distract everyone." Naruto began slowly, while he slowly looked up and smiled. "I think I'm going to change my own actions as well. From now on I'm going to start acting less like the warrior my mother raised me to be and more like the man my dad would have wanted me to be."
Nora smiled and hugged Naruto. "Just don't stop being the man I love."
"Why would I? The part that makes you love me is the best part of me." Naruto replied with a cocky smirk, which earned him a kiss from his girlfriend.

(Pine Family Farm)
Laying on a small haybale without a single care in the world was a single dark haired teenager. Who was enjoying his rather peaceful nap, which was odd for a farmhand to be so slothful especially during this time of day. However, releasing a loud yawn the boy began to stretch and smile.
"Life is good." The boy mumbled softly, while he began to drift into a deep slumber. "And let's hope it never changes."
However, as the boy drifted off asleep he was unaware of the dark clouds rolling quickly to conceal the bright sun overhead and usher in a fierce storm. A storm which would be the very least of his problems to come.

(Chapter End)
So here is the next update, which is just to show some of the extended aftermath of last chapter and how everyone is moving forward. Next chapter will kick off my volume 4, which for the most part will probably be unrecognizable to volume 4 from RWBY. Considering I've really disliked the direction RWBY has went sense volume 4. So expect big changes and new things in the future.
As always thanks for reading and take care.
