Fiery pain exploded within his head, throbbing in time with his heart. The ground beneath him swayed, his stomach following. With a pained groan, Lucien himself from the wooden floor. His body creaked and the pounding in his head increased. What happened to him? He was going to meet Ella on the main deck after overseeing the set up of Ben's mosaic. The room went dark…and something hit his head!
A scream echoed down the empty halls of the ship.
Ella!
Lucien sprinted down halls, up the stairs two at a time until he reached the main deck. The sight he saw would never leave him; he knew it. Heart pounding and chest tightening, he could only stare in fear at the fate that befell his Ella.
He held her with inky black shadows that made Gabriella appear paler. Her eyes shut in acceptance of her fate, accepting that no one could save her. Utter defeat and acceptance that had no place on his beautiful Ella's face.
"You…" Lucien shook in anger. He didn't care about Uma's presence, nor her and Mal's transformations. The fighting meant nothing if Gabriella was left for dead. "Get…your slimy hands off her!" Fire leapt to his fingers and flew. Partygoers duck with screams as fire streamed towards the boy holding Gabriella hostage.
Fallon had no choice but to release Gabriella. Her limp form pitched towards the deck, lifeless and doll like. Jay slide along the deck to catch her in his arms. The cold of her skin seeped through his clothing as he hefted her further in the cradle of his arms. For now, she was safe.
"Well, now ain't this as surprise." Fallon crouched on the deck, eyes black pits. "Little candle boy has some fire power."
"You are not welcome here." Fire crackled in his palms. "Leave. Now."
Fallon had no escape. Mal held off Uma, even with the foolish king now separating them. His prize beyond reach and his opponent more powerful than him. He needed time. The Isle did not allow for the experimentation and training needed to be in full control of his own magic. He needed time. His eyes met Uma's…and he jumped.
Screams followed him as he seized Uma's hand. They would have revenge…one day.
He's gone. Lucien's heart seized. Ella!
Feet kicking water as he ran towards the unconscious girl, Lucien fell to his knees and allowed Jay to place her in his arms. Her skin now ivory with black shadows under her eyes and skin cold to the touch. Lips dried and cracked, body limp and lifeless…without the shallow breaths puffed through those lips, Gabriella could be mistaken dead.
"Ella…"
He couldn't breathe. Gabriella was a shell, and he wasn't there to stop it. She must have been scared. Had she called out for him? Had she been waiting for him to save her? No…Gabriella didn't wait for people to save her. She would have fought till her last breath. He should have been there! He should have saved her…should have—
"Lucien."
A gentle grip held his shoulder. A pale hand encased in purple silk led to a similarly clad forearm and pale arm. Up he followed until his eyes met the gentle green irises of Mal's. His own amber eyes must have been dull and near lifeless with grief. Mal had done everything in her power to save the, and she had. He did not blame her for not saving Gabby. She had her own monster to fight…it was supposed to be him.
"Can…can you help her?"
"I'll do what I can." Mal knelt down beside the two, her hand inches from Gabby.
"Shadows that have stolen light,
Begone in the face of might.
For evil will go amiss,
When faced with true love's kiss."
Purple smoke swirled around Gabriella's form, bringing back the color to her skin and warmth to her body. However, she did not stir.
"What…?"
Mal gave him an amused smile. "I can't do it all. The rest is up to you."
Eyes bored into him as he flushed. Lucien cupped Gabriella's cheek, brushing just under her eye with his thumb. He tipped her head up and leaned down. Their lips slotted over each other; two puzzle pieces matched at last. Her lips so soft and warm as they slid over his. A spark tickled his lips as golden sparkles raced around Gabriella's prone body. When he leant back, separated from her lips, her lashes fluttered. Blue peeked at him from beneath dark lashes.
"Ella?"
Gabriella smiled up at him, her small hand covering his upon her cheek.
"I knew you'd come, Candlestick."
Tears fell from amber eyes she loved so much. His chest shook as his sobs left him. Lucien held her to his chest; Gabriella supposed she'd given him quite the scare.
"Don't cry, Luc." Gabriella pet his hair. "I'm…not going anywhere…"
"Promise, Ella?"
"I promise."
They all stood upon the deck, each of them soaked to the bone. Unlike most, Gabby had chucked her shoes and enjoyed the cool water lapping at her feet. Her head leaning on Lucien's chest and his arms wrapping around her waist, she felt content. Mal shone with happiness that had long since disappeared. She looked like her, in all her purple glory…and Ben looked as if his love had hung the moon and stars shining in the sky.
Ben and Mal stood before them, hand in hand as they smiled towards their friends.
Ben:
Looking back at yesterday
I thought I gave it everything
But still there's so much road ahead of me
Mal's smile grew and she turned to face Ben. She placed her hand on his chest, feeling his heartbeat. He was here, safe, and they were together once more.
Mal:
When I looked into your eyes
I guess I didn't recognize
Who we are and all that we can be
Couples all across the deck began to dance, bowing towards their respective partners.
Mal & Ben:
Sometimes it's hard to find yourself
But it's worth it in the end
'Cause in your heart is where it all begins
Water splashed as they kicked it. Gabriella clung to Lucien as he led her through the steps. Her smile bright as the moon above, and his eyes filled with adoration. Her lips quirked into a smirk as she kicked up a wave of water at him. Lucien laughed and dodged, allowing Evie to pull her towards the railing with Carlos.
All:
We gotta be bold
We gotta be brave
We gotta be free
We gotta get loud
Making that change
You gotta believe (whoa)
We'll look deep inside
And we'll rise up and shine
We can be bold
We can be brave
Let everyone see
It starts with you and me (whoa, whoa, hey)
It starts with you and me (whoa, whoa, hey)
It starts with you and me
All three stared at the Isle, reminiscing on days past. There would always be a part of them from the day they left their island…but they were learning more about themselves each day.
Evie, Carlos, & Gabby:
There's something special that I've learned
It's together we can change the world
Everybody's got something that they can bring
Mal and Jay leaned on the railing beside them, their gazes drifting along the smog covered island. Mal leaned her head on Jay's shoulder with a small grin.
Mal & Jay:
When you take a look inside yourself
Do you wish that you were something else?
But who you are is who you need to be
Evie linked hands with Gabby and Mal to bring them back to the dance floor. The girls twirled together, occasionally splashing water at the others with giggles.
Mal, Evie & Gabby:
Sometimes it's hard to find yourself
But it's worth it in the end
'Cause in your heart is where it all begins
Ben, Lonnie, Doug, Jane, Lucien, Carlos, and Jay joined them in their linked circles. Gabby couldn't stop smiling if she tried. They pulled each other in circles, laughing and splashing in the water. Her dress dripped water and may never be salvaged again but she didn't care. In this moment, she felt utterly and truly happy.

Their hands disconnected and they spun, finding new partners in the fray. Jay pulled her along, the two of them showing off acrobatic skills through twists, turns, and spins. He eventually spun he over to Carlos, who dipped her to her immense surprise. They shared a laugh as he launched him to the next. Lonnie immediately took the lead and spun Gabby around. The two girls giggled when Gabby stumbled to her next partner. Doug gave her a bow and she curtsied in return. They somehow managed a sped-up waltz before Evie captured her and brought her up front with Mal.
Mal, Evie, & Gabby
We all can do a part
We know that it can be the start
To bring about the difference that we need (yeah)
Ben and Lucien joined the three girls, followed soon by the others. They all linked hands and smiled.
Ben, Lucien, Mal, Evie, & Gabby
I promise we can work this out
I promise we can see it through
Don't you know it's up to me
It's up to me and you
They jumped onto the dance floor, water splashing higher than ever. They ran and dance, Lucien at last managing to get a hold of Gabby. Her eyes danced in time to their feet. Her heart had never felt so full of love, warmth, happiness…she felt at home.
They slid into the middle of the circle of their friends as Evie and Doug splashed away. Gabriella's hair hung limp around her face and her makeup was smeared, but Lucien believed he had never seen her look more beautiful. He took her up in his arms and they danced. Of course, Gabriella made sure to spray water towards everyone around them, and somehow, his golden fedora with a red band ended up on her head. Lucien's heart warmed even more as they slid aside for the royal couple.

As the royal couple hugged within the circle, they all moved in, kicking up water at them. The two rushed up the stairs to escape their torment, meeting Ben's parents at the top. All laughed when the young king shook his wet hair at his father. Then, Ben turned to Mal, slipping his ring back onto her finger where it belonged.
Away from the dancing group of teenagers, Gabriella leaned against the railing once more, Lucien hugging her from behind. Even with there clothes sticking to their bodies, their hair dripping with cold water, they felt warm. They were happy.
"I believe this belongs to you."
Her locket hung from Lucien's fingers in front of her face. She peeked over her shoulder at him. His amber eyes were so warm, and his smile calm and reassuring. Gabriella missed this, missed him. She had her freedom here…and now, she could have it without the restrictions.
"Put it on for me?"
"Of course."
His warm fingers grazed her skin as the chain settled around her neck. Goosebumps raised along her arms as his nails lightly scratched her neck as the clasp closed. The locket settled on her chest, the metal cool after being missing from her body for so long.
"Will he accept the invitation?"
"…I don't know…but I hope he does." Gabriella leaned back against her boyfriend's chest. "I can't force him, but…I want him to have a second chance…like we did."
Lucien pressed a kiss to her cheek. "He will, as will the others that accept."
Gabriella turned in his arms, tilting her head back to meet his gaze. "I love you, Lucien."
"I love you, too, Ella. Je t'aime."
Their lips sealed in a kiss as fireworks overhead. They had a lot of work ahead of them, but together, they could change the world.
A/N: AHHHHHHHH! I DID IT! Whoooooo! It's done!
But…wow. It's actually done. Don't forget to let me know what y'all thought! As for whether I will be doing Descendants 3, that remains up in the air. First, I need to actually watch it, and then see if I want to start another Descendants fic. Right now, I'm working on a fic for a game I fell in love with and am currently doing a couple replays to get a grasp on the timeline. So, it'll be awhile before it's posted, and it'll probably be over on AO3. I'm over there under the same username, but no works yet. I'm also probably going to cross post this and the first Silent Descendant fic…with heavy editing oof.
Until next time! Enjoy the rest of 2019!
