It was ages ago that the Traveler came to Earth. After initial contact, humanity began to call the object "The Traveler." It shared its knowledge and technology with humanity, completely overruling laws and truths previously held as universal. An age of relative peace and prosperity ripe with technological innovation began, allowing humanity to triple its lifespan, terraform planets and moons, and expand its civilization beyond and throughout much of the solar system. Numerous colonies and settlements were established on these newly remade worlds. A research colony was formed on the Moon. Mars and Venus and became homes to great cities. Mercury became a garden world. Old records indicate cities existed on Jupiter, but some in The City believe these claims to be only metaphors. The asteroid belt was discovered to be an untapped treasure trove of wealth, and an asteroid mining boom began.

However, at some point, an ancient enemy of The Traveler called The Darkness arrived and drove The Traveler back to Earth, where it made it's final stand. It was then that the Ghosts were created. Their sole purpose was to seek out beings, all of which were dead, that could wield the Traveler's Light as a weapon against the Darkness. They were called Guardians, and they defended Humanity from the Darkness for a very long time.

The number of years is not known, but most speculate that the number is in the hundreds. After countless victories against the Darkness and other enemies, the Guardians were defeated in one fell swoop by The Red Legion, led by Dominus Ghaul;Cayde-6 called him Gary. In the initial battle, Ghaul took away the Traveler's light, rendering guardians weak and eliminated the Ghosts. Many were killed and the city was destroyed. Guardians fled and made camp at The Farm while Ikora and Zavala, the Warlock and Titan vanguards, rallied troops to fight. Cayde-6, the Hunter vanguard, went right out into the field to fight the Red Legion. In the biggest battle of the war, Cayde-6 was killed by Ghaul, but in his last moment, he gave his Vanguard metal to his protege and tagged him as "it." With humanity on the verge of defeat, the Traveler awoke and used the last bit of light in his detached shard to create one final guardian. This guardian was more powerful than the other's as he was created directly by the Traveler to save humanity.

That guardian went on to lead humanity to victory against Ghaul and into a new Golden Age. With the new golden age came many changes. The Guardians became directly involved with humanity. Titans became guards in the new city, while Warlocks were the source of wisdom for many. The Hunters, however, didn't have much use, and they were put away with. They were looked down upon for being too reckless. A little Insurgency rose up, and using weapons from the remains of the Red Legion, killed many hunters. No one seemed to care except the Hunter Vanguard, who disappeared into the night. He saw no hope for Humanity after that day. After that, many factions took some sort of power. New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, and Future War Cult were still around, and even Trinary Star, who hated anything to do with the Traveler.

With stress increasing between factions, and a new threat headed to Earth, one young Titan has now it upon himself to hunt down The Last Hunter. While most believe that it's just an old tale, he believes in the tale, and now he as to find the only person who can stop a war with factions. The question is, where to start?
