Chapter 4

"It's a boy!"

Alexis smiled at her baby then raised her eyebrows. "Um... no SHE'S a girl..."

Diane looked the baby over. "What are you talking about? There's his thingy right there."

"That's the umbilical cord you moron!" She reached her arms out. "Let me hold her."

"An umbrella what?"

"Just give her to me!"

Diane rolled her eyes then handed the baby over. "You're welcome!"

Alexis smiled at her baby and kissed her forehead. "Hey there, beautiful girl."

"Beautiful? She has all your insides on her! Eew..."

"Will you just change the tire please? Or flag down a car driving by or something... Look the rain stopped... Just make yourself useful."

"Oh that's the thanks I get for going through all that trauma."

"Would you rather just sit in the car all night?"

"Fine!"

"We finished the dishes Ma. Now we're going downstairs to play nintendo."

Olivia nodded.

"You okay, ma?"

"Yeah... I'm fine."

"Okay, come on Sam." He and Sam went downstairs.

"That poor little girl."

"Do you think... do you think Dante could be a match?"

"I don't know Connie."

"Does he even know who his father is?"

Olivia shook her head. "No. I've told him bits about Sonny though. He asks about him a lot."

"I never imagined Sonny with a little girl. He was always so tough."

"Wanna talk about it?"

Sam shrugged.

"It's okay, you can trust me. You know my ma is going to ask about it."

She swallowed hard. "I don't wanna go back."

"Maybe you can stay here with us. My ma could adopt you." he ran his hand through his shaggy dark hair.

"She won't want me."

"Why not? She loves kids."

"Dante! It's time for bed. Come on up kids." Dante and Sam ran upstairs. "Sam, do you need a ride home sweetie?"

Sam shook her head.

"Are you sure? It's dark out now. Your parents must be worried."

"I don't have a home... anymore." Sam looked to the floor.

"Can she sleep here tonight ma?"

"Well... what about your parents? Do you have a guardian?"

Sam shook her head.

"Well it's getting late... I guess you can sleep on our cot in the rec room... just for tonight." She went to her room for a moment then returned. "Here's a nightgown, it might be a little big for you but it'll do. Can I wash your clothes for you?"

"So what's wrong?"

Steven sighed. "She's not doing good Sonny. We're running out of time. It's up to you and Alexis... but we may have to induce the
labour so Alexis can be the donor."

"Then what? You said that was risky."

"We're running out of choices Sonny."

"You're confusing me. Tell me what to do."

Steven shook his head. "I don't know Sonny. Alexis is still early. The baby would be premature but if Kristina doesn't get the transplant... it could be fatal."

"Dr Webber to the ER. Dr Webber to the ER."

"I need to take that. It'll give you some time to think."

"Hey baby girl. You're so tiny, but so beautiful. Momma loves you so much. Hey guess what? You share a birthday with your big sister. In fact you look a lot like her
when she was born. I hope you get to meet her one day. I hope I do too..."

"Alexis!" Diane swung the door open. "Coleman's driving us to the hospital."

"Coleman?" Alexis raised her eyebrow. "Okay."

"Lord..." Sonny sat down in one of the pews in the hospital chapel. "I'm sorry the way I've been living my life. Please forgive me. I know I don't deserve your forgiveness but my little girl... my little girl Kristina... she doesn't deserve this. Please give us a
miracle... let her survive. Please God please... we're running out of time." Tears fell from his eyes down to his feet. "Please, just don't take her."

Coleman opened the door for Diane and he went to grab a wheelchair. "Oh, thanks Coleman. I can use that." Diane sat down in the wheelchair.

"This was supposed to be for Alexis."

"After what I just went through?"

"Get up!" Coleman pulled Diane by the arm and took the wheelchair. "You talk to the nurse, I'll take this to Alexis."

Diane rolled her eyes. "She always gets the special treatment." She went over to Bobbie at the nurses station. "Alexis just had a baby and I had to deliver it."

"Where did she give birth?"

"In my car. Yes that means her insides are all over my car and I still need to wash my hands." Diane held up her hands to show Bobbie.

"My word, is she and the baby okay?" She handed Diane some hand sanitizer and started to walk towards the doors to meet Alexis.

"Oh they are just fine. Except the baby has a penis growing out of it's belly."

"I already told you, that's the umbilical cord." Coleman wheeled Alexis and the baby in.

"Hey" Bobbie walked over to Alexis. "Thanks Coleman, I'll take her to a room." Bobbie wheeled Alexis and the baby away.

Diane threw her hands in the air. "See, no one ever thanks me for anything."

"Are you going to take Dante to Sonny?"

"I don't know yet." Olivia sat down beside Connie. "I don't know what to do. Dante could save his sister's life, for the expense of his own. We both know that if Sonny finds out Dante is his son, he'll want to be in his life. But I don't want Dante exposed to the mob."

"Ma?" Dante stood behind them.

"Both you and your baby are doing great." Steven smiled at Alexis.

"Does Sonny know? How is Kristina?"

"I will go get Sonny now." Steven left the room and saw Sonny in the hall.

Sonny went right over to him. "I just ran into Coleman and Diane. How are they?"

"They are doing great. But you need to decide if you're going to tell Alexis she's a match or not."

Sonny nodded. "I'll go tell her... but I want a couple minutes with our new daughter. The three of us."

Steven nodded and patted Sonny's back. Sonny slowly opened the door and saw Alexis and their baby.

"Hi honey. Wanna come meet your new daughter?"

Sonny smiled and went over and layed on the bed with them.

Alexis kissed the baby's forehead. "I was thinking, she looks like a Molly. What do you think?"

"I think that's perfect."

Olivia sat up quickly. "Uhm... Dante... how much did you hear? You're supposed to be in bed."

"I have a little sister who's sick?"

"It's passed your bedtime."

"Ma, please just stop. Tell me. I've always wanted to know about my father, just tell me."

"How is Kristina? Did they find a donor?"

"Yeah..."

"Well who is it?"

Sonny took a deep breath. "It's you."

Alexis breathed a sigh of relief. "Good, when can he do the surgery?"

"As soon as possible."

"Good." Alexis smiled. "You know how I feel about Carly... but maybe she could come sit with Molly while I'm in surgery. I just don't want Molly to feel alone and a nurse isn't enough."

Sonny nodded. "I can call her."

"This was me and your father when we were younger." Olivia handed Dante a picture.

"Wow, you look really young here. He looks kinda like me!"

"Yeah... I've always thought so." She ran her hand through Dante's hair.

"Where does he live? Can I meet him?"

"I don't know sweetie..."

"Awe, please ma?"

"Connie and I heard on the news that he has a little girl and that she's sick right now."

"So she'd be my sister?"

Olivia nodded. "She needs what is called a transplant, but they need a bone marrow that matches her. Does that make any sense to you buddy?"

"Kinda... do I match her?"

"I'm not sure... would you like to be tested?"

Dante nodded. "then it would make her feel better?"

"If you're a match, yes. But if I were to take you there, your dad would probably want to see you..."

"But ma... I wanna meet him, you know that."

"I know... well at least let me sleep on it, okay? It's really late and IF we go we'd have to leave early in the morning."

Dante smiled. "I love you, Ma."

Olivia hugged him close. "I love you too Dante."

The next morning Sonny woke up, he was sleeping on the chair in Alexis's room and saw Steven with her.

"Good morning sleepy head." Alexis smiled at him.

Steven looked over at Sonny. "I'm just checking Alexis over before I prep her for surgery."

"Dr Webber, can I see my girls before the surgery?"

"I can ask the nurse to bring Molly to you for a few minutes. And you'll see Kristina in the OR just before I give both of you the anaesthetic."

"Thank you Dr."

Steven nodded then left the room to find Bobbie.

Sonny stood up and kissed Alexis's forehead. "Carly should be here soon. Jax is spending the day with Michael and Morgan."

Alexis smiled. "I know you don't like Jax. But he is Morgan's father and he loves Michael too."

Sonny clenched his jaw and nodded. "I know he does."

"Maybe he can bring the boys to meet Molly later today."

"Knock knock." Bobbie walked in carrying Molly.

"There she is." Alexis reached out as Bobbie placed Molly in her arms. "Hey baby girl. Did you sleep well last night? Listen. Mommy needs to help your big sister Kristina because she's sick. But no matter what happens, always know how much Mommy loves you. And you will always have your daddy." Alexis kissed her forehead and Sonny watched them as his eyes welled up with tears.

"So can we go see him, ma?" Dante asked Olivia as she was pouring his orange juice.

"Dante, we have company." She poured some juice for Sam as well.

"But I wanna meet him badly ma. Plus my little sister is sick."

"Would you like some eggs, Sam?"

"No, thank you." Sam whispered.

"Your clothes are all washed."

"Stop changing the subject ma. I wanna meet my dad!"

Olivia sat down. "Okay Dante... I'll take you to your dad."

Dante jumped on his seat and started dancing "Woohoo!"

"Olivia laughed. "Sit down and eat your breakfast kiddo."

Dante sat down grinning. "I'm gonna take my baseball card collection to show him. I bet he likes the Yankees just like me!"

"Yeah I bet he does... Sam, you need to tell me about your family."

"Why can't she come with us to meet my dad?"

"Because, Dante, that would be called kidnapping."

Sam looked at her orange juice. "I should go..."

"Oh honey, please let me at least drive you home."

"No, it's okay. I should really get going now."

Dante thought for a moment till he had an idea. "Awe, okay. Well can I walk you out?" He stood up and took Sam's arm. She grabbed her backpack.

"It was very nice meeting you Sam. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to come to us."

"Thank you..." Sam smiled and she and Dante went outside.

Dante whispered to her. "We're taking the next train to Port Charles. Here's some money for a train ticket. It's my whole allowance saved up." He handed her some money. "Please come with us. I haven't known you that long, but you're the bestest friend I've ever had." Dante looked back at the house. "I have to go... but please come." he hugged her then ran back inside.

"Well aren't you just the sweetest?" Molly cooed as Bobbie rocked her back and forth on the rocking chair.

"Are Alexis and Kristina in surgery now?" Carly walked in and smiled at her mother with Molly.

"Yeah. And Sonny's waiting outside the OR." Bobbie stood holding Molly as she kissed Carly's cheek. "How are you sweetheart?"

"Oh, good as to be expected with having two boys." She made a goofy face at Molly.

"How are Michael and Morgan?"

"Hyper as always. I guess it's my fault for giving them too much sugar."

"Oh no, are they going to be food junkies like their mother?"

"I think Michael is. But Morgan likes his vegetables.

Bobbie giggled. "It's good of you to sit with Molly even when you and Alexis don't get along very well."

"Yeah, well she's Michael's little sister, and I just love babies."

"Okay, well I better get back to my shift. If you need anything just have one of the nurses page me."

"Okay thanks Momma." Bobbie handed Molly over to Carly and went back to her shift.

Mike walked up beside Sonny who was trying to look into the OR, but a curtain was closed so he couldn't see anything. "How are you holding up son?"

"I'll be better once I know Alexis and Kristina are alright."

"They will be. I was actually thinking maybe once Kristina is all better we could take her to her first Yankee game. Michael and Morgan too of course."

"I'd like that. I'd like that a lot pop." Sonny's eyes started to well up and Mike pulled him in for a hug.

Sam looked at the money Dante gave her as she sat on a bench near the train station. Should she go back home and give the money to her father? Should she take the money and buy something with it? She was tempted to do lots of things with it but she had grown rather fond of Dante, and his mother was so kind to her.

Olivia climbed on the train first, then Dante stepped on but looked back to see if she came. "Come on Dante, it's leaving in 2 minutes." He hesitated for a moment then followed Olivia to a seat. "I know you miss your new friend, but we couldn't take her with us. Her parents would be worried sick about her."

Dante sighed and looked out the window. He saw many people of many ages, genders, races walk by. But he kept looking for the small brown hair, brown eyed girl to come.

"Tickets please."

"Oh, I've got them here sir." Olivia went digging through her purse to find the tickets for the conductor. Dante looked out the window again and his face lit up when he saw Sam running toward the train. She ran passed his window and smiled and winked at him before she climbed on and found a seat a few rows away from Olivia and Dante.
