Hi! Honestly, I cried all my tears at the end of this episode. Really. I never write about this serie, even if I love it. But, now, I just wanted to pay a tribute to Charlotte Ritchie, and to her character, Barbara, who was my favorite midwife in it. I hope you will like it, also my first language is not English, I am sorry if you see mistakes in it. I hope it will be as good as I want it to be. Have a nice reading.

Last goodbyes

In a dark hospital as there are hundreds of them through the country, a reverend, a nurse, a lifeless body. The alive ones cry the dead, hopelessly, and the dead is already far.

She was lying on the hospital's bed, pale, just like if she was sleeping. Her face was peaceful, while a smile was on her lips. And that vision of his wife made Tom crying. Phyllis couldn't help, but looking to him, hopping a miracle to happen. But it was too late. How can a miracle happens, now? She was gone, and she would never comeback, her sweet Barbara.

"I am sorry, Tom. Truly" She said, before leaving him alone.

She knew he needed this time, this last time, to be alone with her. So she waited at the door. Meanwhile, Tom was still at the same place, unable to understand where it went wrong. Where did he made a mistake? When did all of this went wrong? She was young, healthy, why did it have to be her? He passed a hand on her cheek. Cold as the marble. Another sob let him without voice. His pain was so hard. Then, with a soft voice, he began :

"Oh darling, I can't believe you are gone. I am sorry, Barbara. I am so sorry. I love you, you know. I love you as I never loved someone else. You know that, don't you, my darling? I would have do everything in the world, for you. And if I had a chance to, I would have take your place in this bed."

For some time, he couldn't continue. He couldn't believe that he was living this, he couldn't believe it was too late to save her. But it was. And he could do nothing for her, now. He kissed her lips, as if she was still alive, just to feel this sensation, one last time.

"I will always love you, Barbs. I promise. And I will live, not for me, because I can't do it anymore, but for you. Just let me time, I need it ... But I will. I promis you. Goodbye my sweet love"

He cried again, while kissing her for the last time. Even Phyllis could heard his pain across the wall. She closed her eyes, remembering the sweet face of the young nurse. She remembered everything, every single moment that counted in their lives. Then, when she opened her eyes again, she knew. She looked at the window, and said in a whisper :

"I will take care of him, I promise you. He won't be alone in his pain. And if I have to sacrifice my own to help him, then I would be glad to. Because of you. Don't be afraid, alright lass? I will miss you. Goodbye my lass"

I really hope it's not too bad. Tell me what you feel about it, please, for I can know if I did a mistake or not by publishing it. Have a nice day ^^
