Montauk 1993:
Sally loved the ocean, even more she loved reading, and right now she was reading by the ocean in complete bliss. It was one of those days when her mind was completely free of thought, not worrying about her college fees, her internship, and her life in general.
What she didn't know was that a certain sea god had had his sea green eyes on her for long time. You wouldn't think that a divine being who had been alive for more than four millennia would be nervous to ask a girl out, but he was. Sally Jackson was perfect. He had fallen for her without actually ever talking to her, she was warm and loving, her brown hair made her look like a princess, in the sunlight her sparkling blue eyes changed color to resemble something completely divine, that cannot be put into words.
What had really attracted Poseidon's attention was her ability to see through the mist, he had never seen a clear-sighted mortal who took things so calmly, it was almost as if she dealt with shit like this on a daily basis.
There was only one thing keeping Poseidon from leaping out of the water in all of his godly glory, the oath he had taken on the river Styx. He knew Zeus had already broken his, no matter how hard he tried to hide it, or more accurately her. Poseidon did not want to get in trouble with Styx again. But nor could he control himself, giving up he finally decided to approach Sally and got out of the water, just not in all of his godly glory, though he would have liked that.
He approached Sally from behind, so as to not seem like a total creep who checks out girls on the beach and flashes them his dazzling smile, whilst hoping they would fall for him, he knew Sally wouldn't like that. He sat down on the beach chair that was next to her, and stared at the ocean in front of him for a few moments, in his miserable attempt to look mysterious. Finally he asked, "So, what's your name?"
Sally looked up from her book and said, "Sally, and I feel like I have seen you before."
"Err…" so she had known he was stalking her, this was already not going as planned.
"I am Dylan, pleased to meet you," he said and tried for his most flattering smile, the one that made goddesses swoon, though Sally seemed unaffected. To keep the conversation going he asked, "What book are you reading?"
"Emma, it's by Jane Austen," Sally said
"Ah, it's a good book," Poseidon/Dylan said, truthfully, he hadn't even heard about this book, but given the way Sally said it, it must be famous amongst mortals.
"Really, have you read it?" Sally asked, suddenly much more interested in the ongoing conversation.
"Err…no, but I would love to, are you free tonight? We could go for dinner and maybe you could lend me this book of yours?" he asked. This was clearly not going as planned; he hadn't meant to blurt it out this early. The look of relief on his face was so obvious when she said yes.
That night Sally found out that the weird guy she met by the ocean wasn't so bad after all, little did she know that this was just the first date of the many to come.
Years later, Sally would be telling her little boy this same story, as he listened and his sea green eyes sparkled with glee, after all it wasn't so often she told him stories about his father.
