Not JKR, so don't own anything to do with Harry Potter.
Can't draw so don't own anything else either.
It's been a tough year since I last updated. With everything that is going on in the world, finding time to update and edit chapters has been close to the furthest thing from my mind.
I have had this written for a while but family concerns meant I held off on finalising. As it stands I am still not happy with this chapter as it stands, but have posted and kept the rest of it for the next chapter which will involve fallout from the dragons used as well as further information regarding the contract previously mentioned.
Next chapter should not take as long to come out.
I will be updating other chapters in the near future with changes due to errors when I was writing.
Hogwarts
It had been an interesting week for Harry and Akane since they had decided to take the next step in their relationship. They were both aware of their status within Japan even if they did not overtly advertise the fact. Akane was the only daughter of the ruler of Magical Japan with close ties to the Imperial Family on the Mundane side of things. Harry, while the adopted son of Sanji, was also the heir to multiple titles within Great Britain, not jus the Potter title that he wanted nothing to do with. Added to this was his close association with Amaterasu and Ryuu as well as both of their close ties to the Yokai Association out of Kyoto. Their deciding to take things further than friendship instantly turned them into the most powerful couple within Magical Japan after the Shogun and his wife.
Both Harry and Akane were aware of this fact having grown up around the Politics of the Imperial Court, both magical and mundane. They were both well aware that they could not risk any show of impropriety while in public and that they would need chaperones while in private. What was acceptable as friends would not be acceptable while dating prior to a betrothal contract being in place. Everyone knew it was silly as they were the same people they were before, but now that they were officially a couple there were guidelines they had to follow.
Akanes father had been happy for his daughter and congratulated Harry on finally getting his head out of his ass. Everyone had seen where the relationship was going, hence the betting pool on when it would actually happen. Knowing that he had the blessing of Akanes father was a weight off Harry's shoulders. The last thing he wanted was for her father to be against their relationship.
They had not advertised their change in status while in public as they did not feel that it was anyones business but theirs and their families. Outwardly there was no change in their conduct or how they went about their business outside of their rooms within the castle.
They had spent most of the last week finalising Harrys plans on how to complete the first task. They had also worked to ensure that none of the other champions were aware of what they would be required to do. If one of them had felt any remorse about having more time than Harry to prepare for the task due to being told everything a week before Harry had, then he would have shared what he knew. However, none of them had felt it necessary to speak up on Harry's behalf so he did not feel it necessary to let them know what he knew.
As Harry calmly waited for the officials to come and tell the rest of the champions what they were up against he watched the other champions to try and get a feel for how they would do in the task. The French champion looked a little frayed around the edges. Pacing back and forth muttering to herself and chewing on her fingernails, far from the self-possessed and composed beauty she had been showing everyone since Harry had arrived in the castle. The Hogwarts champion was sitting in the corner as pale as a vampire with his eyes darting everywhere and his legs bouncing with nerves. The Bulgarian was the most stoic of the three sitting and trying to portray an image of calm assurance. The sheen of sweat on his brow and the way his eyes darted to any little noise in the tent gave the lie to this image though. While they had all researched as much as they could and tried to find out what was going to be happening for the task, it was obvious to Harry that they had been unsuccessful. Even trying to get a feel for what the task could entail by looking at previous events had not been possible. Out of curiosity Harry had investigated the Hogwarts Library and found that they had no books available outlining any of the previous tournaments. While they had them listed in their catalogue, they had all mysteriously disappeared just before the start of the school year.
Suddenly Fluer turned to Harry "How can you just sit there and be calm about all of this? You have had less time to prepare than we did but you sit there looking like you have not a care in the world" she demanded.
"Unlike some in this tent" Harry replied "I have done my research and I have a fairly good idea of what we will face in this task. While the Hogwarts library mysteriously misplaced all the relevant books associated with this tournament prior to the start of the school year, they are not the only source of information available on the event."
This made Harry the centre of attention for the other champions. They had not thought to look too much into the event before being selected, trusting Hogwarts to have the relevant books for them to research. Not finding anything to help them they had gone on to general knowledge research to bolster their spell repertoire in preparation for the event rather than waste time trying to find information that might not be helpful.
Looking at the other champions Harry continued "Eight out of the last ten times the tournament was held the first task involved getting past a XXXX or greater class creature to retrieve an object which would provide information for the second task. Nine out of the last ten tournamnets the second task has involved the rescuing of a hostage, the only reason it was not ten out of ten is because during the first task the last time the tournament was run the Cockatrice the competitors were up against got loose and killed all three champions as well as the judges and a portion of the crowd. This is also why the tournament was cancelled two hundred years ago."
The other champions were stunned by the information that Harry had provided. Even their brief research before coming to Hogwarts had not held that information. All it stated was that the tournament was cancelled two hundred years ago, it did not go into why. This was because none of the schools wanted the information getting out at the time that they had failed so dismally in protecting both champions and spectators. As a result, they had heavily doctored the documents published and available in Europe to provide the best light they could on the matter. They could not however prevent the truth being published in other countries and other history books.
"My father works for the Ministry and he could not get any information about previous times the tournament was held" stated Cedric "How did you find out this much and in less time?"
"While I have been here at Hogwarts for less time, I still had time at home before we came here. I used that time to investigate the tournament as much as possible to see what I was in for. Both Akanes Father and the Emperor of Mudane Japan have books covering the tournament as well as original reports from the Government representatives that attended the events. They got at least one thing right, the Tri Wizard Tournament has always been meant to bring nations together and promote what the schools were teaching their students. There has always been a big international presence whenever this event was held."
The other champions sat back as they absorbed the information that Harry had just provided. While not being overly helpful at this stage for the first task, it did give them an idea of what they would be doing for the next task.
They all sat in silence for another five minutes before the entrance to the tent was flung open and the Ministry Officials plus the three headmasters walked in.
Ludo Bagman looked ridiculous in his old and too small Quidditch Uniform, obviously trying to relive his youth and show off where he could. The rest of the party looking at the champions as if trying to discern how prepared they were for the upcoming event. Looking around Harry could see no representative from Japan for him amongst the officials, just the three headmasters and British Ministry Officials. Thankfully there was no media present in the tent, no one needed that hassle before the task.
"Right" began Bagman holding out a bag the appeared to be holding something that moved. "inside this bag you will find figurines representing what you will need to face in the arena to complete the first task. We will start with the choosing, then I will further explain what you must do once we know the order you are going in. Ladies first I believe" he finished holding the bag out to Fleur.
Reaching into the bag the French Veela appeared to flinch as she touched what was in there. Withdrawing her hand she was terrified to find that she was holding a figuring of a Dragon, in this case the Swedish Shortsnout with the number 2 around its neck, Diggory and Krum where no better than Fleur when they saw what she pulled out of the bag.
"Dragons" all three yelled at the same time, looking at their respective Heads and the Ministry officials as if they were insane.
Everyone noticed the lack of reaction on Harry's part. The other three champions were not too surprised based on their previous conversation. The Ministry Officials and Heads however were all surprised at how calm he was.
"You appear to not share your fellow champions concerns Mr Potter, care to elighten us?" queried Bartemus Crouch Snr. "One would think based on your reaction, or lack thereof, that you already knew what you would be facing."
"Of course I already knew" stated Harry. "Did you forget that you tried to get a Chinese Fireball Dragon from the Asian Ministries for this event earlier in the year. Not only were you told No, you were told Hell No. You know I am very close to the Japanese Ruling family, what makes you think that I would not be aware of that request? Also you had to file with the ICW to transport dragons, that is not exactly something that can be kept quiet on the international front no matter what you try. I am honestly surprised that you were able to keep so many people in Europe from finding out both that the Tournament would be happening again and that it would involve Dragons."
"But Harry, based on their reactions you did not tell the other champions what the task was. Why would you not share the information with them? Surely sportsmanship and the Greater Good would compel you to help them." Said Dumbledore.
"Why would I want to tell them?" asked Harry sounding confused "They voluntarily signed up for this blood sport. They asked to be here. They also did not raise any concerns about the fact that they had information well in advance of myself when I arrived at the Castle. They had had over a week to start preparing for the first task before I arrived, but no one bothered to mention anything about that to me when I was briefed on the tournament."
"Yes Yes, this is all very exciting but can we please continue with the drawing so we can continue. We can iron out all of this after the first task." Exclaimed Bagman in an attempt to get things moving again, not seeing how some of the Ministry Officials were suddenly looking a little concerned after hearing Harry's comments. "Mr Diggory if you please"
Reaching into the bag Cedric pulled out a figuring that looked like the Common Welsh Green. This one had the number 1 around its neck.
"Mr Krum" said Bagman offering him the back. Victor reached into the bag and pulled out the last dragon that Harry expected to see. In Victors hands was a figurine representing a The Hungarian Horntail Dragon with the number 3 around its neck.
"Wow, talk about picking a wide range of choice" sniped Harry. "Going from one of the most placid dragons with the Welsh Green to one of the most vicious with the Horntail. Wouldn't it have just been easier to bring in the same breed for each of us? That would be a true test of our abilities if we all had the same level of opponent. I mean, there is a reason the Welsh Green is called The Common Welsh Green after all. It would have been really easy to get enough of them together without having to go through the ICW as they are here in England to begin with."
Dumbledore and the other heads looked at each other as if only just now considering that possibility. It would have been so much easier, not to mention cheaper, for them to have taken the option Harry just mentioned. Not having been involved in organising the Dragons he was actually curious to see what they final breed was going to be.
Bagman looking extremely pale and with shaking hands held the bag out to Harry for him to pull the last dragon out. Still looking at the Ministry officials with disgust Harry reached in and pulled out the last figuring. Hearing a gasp from Dumbledore of all people, Harry looked in his hand to see what he had drawn.
All activity in the tent stopped as everyone was suddenly looking at Harry as what felt like an oppressive weight slammed into them, forcing some of the weaker people present onto their knees. Suddenly he had an Emerald Green Aura of magic around him that almost looked like flames dancing around his body. Looking up at the Ministry Officials his eyes looked like they had been replaced with green pools of fire matching his aura in color.
"Are you people INSANE" he roared.
Dumbledore could only agree with Harry in this instance. Sitting in Harry's hand was a figurine of one of the rarest and most dangerous types of dragon on the planet. Harry was holding a miniature Imperial Japanese Water Dragon. This was not good, not good at all.
