A/N: For some reason, I wanted to write a story on Rose before she was born, if that makes sense. But before you get to that….. SELF-PROMOTION
*The companion piece to this story is up. It's called "Predicting Roses". It occurs about one or two weeks after this, but a couple days before Rose pops out of her mother's stomach. Check it out!
Hermione Weasley and her husband were sitting on a bench near a rose garden. Rather, their rose garden. They had just came back from the doctor. She glanced at him. She was scared Ron would be upset, bur if anything, he was happy with the news. It was mid-June, and in a couple weeks, she would get to see her little baby girl.
That's right. Ron and Hermione Weasley were expecting. A child to be specific. They were elated and ecstatic and so much more.
Ron, her husband Ron (Merlin, she loved being able to call him that) poked her in the shoulder.
"What?"
"What are we going to name her?"
"I'm… not sure."
"Hermione Granger, doesn't know something?"
I gave him glare. "Shut up, Ron."
He rolled his eyes and said, "But really, we should pick out a name."
"I want it to be a name starting with a "h" or a "r". "
He raised an eyebrow. "Cliché move. I want two kids, one starting with a "h" and the other a "r"."
"Well then let's think of names."
Getting a piece of paper and wand, they started listing names.
Ron and Hermione's Baby Names
Hermoine Jr.
No way! Our child will not be named after one of us!
So I can't put Ron Jr. if we have a boy?
NO!
How about we add some names not starting with "h" or "r"?
Selena?
Maybe.
How about… Arianna? I like that name.
Too many famous names. Grande and Gomez are my mom's best attempts too be hip.
She is hip.
Says someone who would rather read than go on a broom.
Stop it! Now, back to names…
Rachael?
Not symbolic enough.
Since when did you care for symbolism? And it means "female sheep".
Since our daughter. Also… the sheep doesn't make it much better.
Rebecca? Ruth? Riley?
Name of my elementary school bully, famous baseball character (and if she's anything like me, she won't even know who that was), and maybe.
Elementary school bully!?
Nothing to worry about.
Hmp
…
Rosemary?
I'm allergic. What about Rose?
I like it… and the symbolism.
Well dear, the best things in life are surrounded by thorns.
Beautifully written.
Her middle name will be Thorn.
Rose Thorn Weasley?
With a first name like that, you can't expect me to not name her that!
Fair enough.
Stopping our written conversation, I looked at my wife. She seemed tired, and was trying to hide it.
"Get some rest."
She sleepily smiled at me, before falling asleep in my arms. I gave her a long forehead kiss, before hugging her closer, putting my hand on her stomach. On our baby. And in that moment, thinking about how lucky I was to have them, I feel asleep.
