A Day in the Life
A Debbie Macomber's Trading Christmas fanfiction
Disclaimer: I don't own Trading Christmas. Debbie Macomber does.
Faith Johnson was reading a magazine, looking for ideas for her next event when suddenly his husband entered the living room and started pacing.
She tried to ignore him but after a few minutes she couldn't anymore.
"Hey you. What are you thinking about?"
He stopped his pacing and turned to his wife.
"You've sent your manuscript to the publisher, so it's not about your book. Is it about Berkeley? But you said the faculty and students are great."
Kneeling in front of her, he grabbed her hands. He unconsciously rubbed the diamond ring on her finger. He started to open his mouth but suddenly he didn't know what to say.
"Charles, what is it? You know you can tell me anything."
"Faith, I know we haven't talked about this. I know I didn't have a normal childhood. You might think I hate children. But the truth is I don't hate them. Children, I mean. I just don't know how to deal with them."
She shook her head. "No, I don't think that. You played with Sarah and Joey, remember? You wouldn't do that if you hate children."
Her heart was beating hard. Dare she to hope? She had been waiting for this conversation for a long time.
"Charles, do you want to have a baby?"
"Yes. Yes I do. How do you know? Don't answer it. Just answer this. Do you want to?"
She threw her arms around his shoulders. "Of course!" She kissed him hard on the lips then pulled back.
"I've wanted to have a baby since forever. I didn't ask you because I thought you would think it's too soon. We've only been married for a few months. You're still adjusting to this city and your new job. I'm glad you brought this up."
"Even if you start being pregnant tomorrow, the baby will not arrive until 9 months from now, right? I think I will already be adjusted then."
She pulled him closer but just before their lips touched, she stopped.
"Promise me if our baby is a girl, we will not name her Samantha."
He laughed. "Never. Now, please let me kiss you."
A.N. This fanfiction is based on the TV movie version of Trading Christmas but the Berkeley thing is from the novel. This scene entered my mind and wouldn't leave until I wrote it down.
