Author's Note: I whipped this up quick today after having a… strange tasting cup of tea. It's just a small thing and I hope you enjoy it!
=== ODD TEA ===
Asriel and I sat down for a chat and some afternoon tea, something we did quite often. I filled the electric kettle and set it to boil. Asriel got the sugar, honey, and cream, while I laid out the teacups, saucers, and the box of teabags. I was having an old favourite, chai, and Asriel was having earl grey. The kettle whistled, the water was poured, and the tea was prepared.
"So. How are things going with Will?." Asriel began the conversation, bringing up my most recent boyfriend.
"Ugh. Don't even say his name around me." I had dumped him just this morning and was still angry at him.
"Why's that?" He probed as he lifted the teacup to his lips.
"He's an incompetent boor."
"You don't say," Asriel said with false sadness, poorly hiding a smirk behind his teacup.
Asriel never seemed to like my choice of boyfriends. I know he's just being protective, but I'd appreciate it if he toned the snark down. The only thing missing these conversations was an "I told ya' so," seeing as he did say that Will had "more earwax than he did brains, " and that he had "poor manners." I'll never admit he's right though. If I did, he'd definitely start saying "I told ya' so." Anyway, I was about to make a comment about his disingenuous disappointment at the fate of my relationship when I noticed he had a strange look on his face.
"Huh." He said suspiciously as he looked into his tea.
He sniffed it before taking another sip. "Huh."
"Something wrong?" I asked.
He was silent for a moment. "I'm not sure…"
He took another sip, setting the cup down on its saucer afterwards. "Frisk, is there something off with your tea?"
I hadn't sipped mine yet, so I did so. The wasn't anything unusual about it. Tasted like chai tea with sugar and cream. I shook my head. "No. Why?"
He made an odd face. "Ever eaten jelly bellies?"
"Y-yes?" A rather abrupt change in topic, I thought.
"Ever eaten a popcorn flavoured jelly belly?"
"Yes?" Where was he going with this?
He set two fingers on the edge of the saucer and slid his tea across the table. "Taste this."
Intrigued, I cautiously lifted the cup to my lips and sipped. The tea indeed tasted like a buttered popcorn jelly belly.
"Huh." is all I could muster in response to the strange taste.
"I know, right?" He said, smiling.
"That's weird." I started before taking another sip to verify the taste. Still tasted like a popcorn jelly belly.
"Kinda leaves like a-"
"A buttery kinda… uh… yeah" I finished.
I slid the tea back across the table. "What the hell did you do to it?"
"Honey and cream." He sipped the tea, making another odd face afterwards.
"Just chuck it if you don't like it."
"No… I..." he paused, sipped it, paused again, took a second sip, "I'm… I'll drink it."
I shook my head and sipped my own tea. From there our conversation shifted to school, gossip, and upcoming video games. All in all, a pleasant enough way to spend the afternoon.
