"It's too early," Rory complained, "who decided that there would be a freak lightning storm at three a.m?" Rory made her way down the stairs, shivering. Lorelai was sitting on the couch covering in blankets, holding a warm coffee mug. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was on the television.
"We have nothing going on tomorrow. Come binge Buffy with me," Lorelai patted the couch beside her, before taking a sip of her coffee.
"Mom, I really want to sleep," Rory pouted, before yawning. Lorelai shrugged.
"Sucks for you; Angel's really hot in this episode."
"You're such a nerd!" Rory laughed, plopping down next to Lorelai. "Fill me in, watcher."
"Hey, I'm the slayer, you're the watcher," Lorelai snapped.
"I never said I was a slayer!" Rory replied.
Lorelai rolled her eyes. "Ok, so season two, Angel's bad because he slept with Buffy, and he's working with Spike and Drusilla."
"Drusilla and Spike? Gee, how low are Angel's friendship standards?" Rory noticed Lorelai's coffee. "Hey! Why the heck are you having coffee at three in the morning!" She quickly changed her tone, "Is there any left, or are you a coffee hog?"
"Thanks," Rory got up and entered the kitchen, where a pot of coffee sat. There was barely any left, the waterline barely six inches high (for Gilmore standards, that was barely a cup). "Coffee addict!" She was fully aware that Lorelai would tell her off for that. She soon returned to the couch with a cup of coffee, sitting down before taking a sip. She quickly gulped the cold coffee out and gazed with disgust back into the mug. "This is disgusting, God!"
"That's why I use the microwave."
"Mom, you could've at least told me!"
"Well I'm sorry you didn't ask to read the warning label before opening."
"Sorry, okay. I hate suggesting this and wouldn't do it if it wasn't three and I knew you were exhausted, but do you want me to make your coffee?"
"Yes please," Rory grinned innocently, holding out her mug for Lorelai to take. Lorelai returned in a minute with a warm cup of fresh coffee. They turned on Buffy, and grew awfully quiet.
A moment of silence between the two was rare. But neither Gilmore spoke, both exhausted despite the caffeine. Thunder rumbled as the rain outside poured, occasional flashes of lightning brightening the whole room like it was daytime. In that moment, in the quiet house, all that mattered were the affairs of Buffy. Lorelai and Rory soon found themselves with droopy eyelids, warm and huddled up on the couch…
"Coffee has failed me!"
"I didn't mean to fall asleep, I was going to pull an all nighter and sleep all day… and now we have to rewind through like, seven episodes! This is not how I wanted to spend my day off- awake!"
"Geez, what time is it?" Rory rubbed her eyes, sitting upright on the couch. It was cloudy outside, no sun leaking into the windows.
"Nine," Lorelai sighed, pacing, "we need to go to Luke's before I fall asleep, darn it!"
"Good idea," Rory frowned, still a bit drowsy. She pushed the blanket aside and started to get up. "I'm so hungry."
"I still can't believe this, why the hell does nothing ever go as planned?" Lorelai put on a coat, before grabbing an umbrella.
"Mom, it isn't a big deal."
"Yes it is! Sometimes you need to sleep all day and stay up all night, it's just human!"
"Alright," Rory knew that arguing with Lorelai would only be a burden, so she shut up and ran upstairs to get ready.
[ A/N ] I haven't written anything Gilmore Girls related in ages, so that's a oneshot I started to write in class. I hope you liked it! Reviews are appreciated :)
