"We have a 415 on Manhattan below 14th , possible 459"

"Blake 401, 10-98" he said taking a sharp turn, heading for the street.

"It's on the third floor, apartment 31, residence say the owner of the apartment has died and they hear disturbance. Possible burglary"

"Stand by"

Officer John Blake parked outside the tall building and got out of the car. He looked up at the morning sky and all around him, trying to find any sort of van or car that a robber might need to transport his stolen goods. He walked to the door which was luckily open and began ascending the staircase. When he was finally on the third floor, he walked with caution to the door and eavesdropped. He could indeed hear footsteps and furniture moving. He took out his gun and lowered it, preparing himself for the worse.

He knocked on the door.

"GCPD open the door!" he shouted determinedly.

The footsteps stopped. This was not good. He knocked on the door once more.

"POLICE OPEN-"

But before he could even finish, the door was unlocked to reveal a tall pretty girl, looking at him with tired confused eyes.

He stared at her dumbfounded for a moment before lowering his gun.

"Ma'am we have a complain about a disturbance from the apartment"

The girl kept staring at him.

"Ma'am what are you doing in this apartment?"

The girl then rolled her eyes and turn around. He stiffened for a moment as she reached on the bookcase to the left but only to grab a photo frame. She gave it to him and left, turning her attention to the living room. John looked down at the picture with a frown. There were two women. One of them was familiar to him, the other was the girl in front of him.

So this was in fact, possibly the owner of the house.

He blinked in realization. The older girl, was that woman. Rachel Dawes. The one that Joker had killed. And then it hit him.

"Ma'am…are you Mia Dawes?"

The girl stopped sweeping the dusty floor and turned to him, nodding with boredom.

"Jesus Christ" he said under his breath "Everyone thinks you're dead" he said in surprise.

He took his transmitter and turned around "Blake 401, all clear. We have a 10-57. Missing person Mia Dawes is alive"

There was silence from the other end of the line and Mia rolled her eyes. Great. Now she would have to go down to the station and talk to police and explain and bla bla bla. And she really didn't want to see Gordon at the moment.

Gordon? What the fuck is a Gordon? She thought to herself, pausing for a moment.

"Ma'am you're gonna have to come with me" he said approaching her. Mia took a step back involuntarily and he paused, lifting up his hands in defense.

"It's ok. Don't worry. You have done nothing wrong. I will just need you to come down to the station for a statement"

Mia stared at him with wide eyes. Finally and reluctantly, she let go of the broom and approached the man slowly, maintaining some distance between them.

"Come on" he said politely as he closed the door behind them.

It was busy at the station. Something that Mia, for some reason didn't find odd. Gotham, after all, was a busy busy place when it came to GCPD.

Her eyes were burning and they felt swollen from last week's events. But the good news now was that the pain had subsided now. it fact, she felt nothing.

Nothing at all.

"Mia?" she heard a familiar voice. She turned around only to see an older man almost jogging to her direction. She stood up just as he crashed onto her, almost chocking her in his arms.

"How can it be?" he asked but when he finally released her, she realized he was talking to the officer who had escorted her to the station. He shrugged and looked down at her.

"Come" the older man said, almost dragging her by the arm. They finally got in an interrogation room and he closed the door. He looked up at the cameras to make sure they were disabled.

"Don't worry nobody is listening. You are safe here" he said.

Mia glanced at him and then up at the cameras.

"Please" he said pulling out a chair for her. She sat down and sighed as the man sat across the table. "Where have you been?"

She looked at him and shrugged.

"Oh" he said reaching down in his pocket. he took out a small notepad and handed it to her with a pen. Mia took the pad and wrote. She briefly explained how she was in a coma for the last year, how she had woken up in the hospital with burn scars all over her body and how she could remember nothing.

Gordon took the piece of paper and read it silently. After a while, Mia saw his gaze drifting away as he lost himself in his thoughts.

"So you don't remember how you uh…how this happened to you?"

She shook her head, wrapping her arms around herself.

"Did anyone approach you since you've woken up?"

Mia's eyes fixed on his. And with determination she shook her head.

"Nobody at all?"

Mia shook her head again this time clenching her fist under the table.

"Mia" Gordon said taking off his glasses "Do you…know..who the Joker is?"

Mia felt her heart skip a beat. So this is what he needed. She took the pad in her hands again and wrote down it slowly. When she was done, she stared at the paper for a moment before tossing it across the table towards him.

Gordon frowned as he stared at it in disbelief.

I don't know who the Joker is.

Gordon looked up at her, studying her.

"The Joker is uh…" he began tangling his fingers together "A madman. Let's start there. He uh… abducted you last year, tortured you, in hopes that the new DA at the time…Harvey Dent resigned from office. You see Harvey Dent was involved with Rachel Dawes…Your…sister…"

He looked at her doubtfully but when the girl nodded, he went on.

"Good" he said almost to himself as he went on "There were no more contact with you and him….as far as I know…" he said piercing her with his eyes "Although, I never believed you when I asked you about it"

She frowned then, unaware of any of those events.

"After a while, the Joker killed your sister and left Harvey Dent..well…let's say half the man he was. Do you remember this?"

Mia was about to nod when she remember. She supposedly didn't know the Joker. She shook her head instead.

"We captured him after a while, but until then, too many lives had been lost"

Mia's gaze dropped down to the sharp edge of the table. She could feel herself drifting off as the flashback rushed into her head.

"What did you think was gonna happen huh!? You thought we could just see each other and go to Starbucks for coffee every morning before work!? Did you think I would give a fuck about hurting someone you love just because it's you?

"Or maybe you thought I would sacrifice my plans for you. Maybe you were that stupid! You know what you should be grateful that you're still breathing! Because for some fucking reason I decided to spare you! But no you want more! You want me not hurt anyone you love as well! Brat "

"Mia?"

She jumped slightly as Gordon pulled her out of her trance.

"I said do you have any information on where he might be?"

Mia stared at him, feeling her eyes burning again. She then raised her chin and took the notepad in her hand, turning back a page.

Gordon looked down at the paper and then up at her.

I don't know who the Joker is.

He sigh in defeat and got up.

"Come on" he said "I'll have officer Blake escort you home"

"You call us if you need anything ma'am"

The girl got out of the car with an eye roll and he stared after her confused. Eventually, he turned off the engine and got out of the car.

"Ma'am" he called after her. The girl turned towards him slowly with angry eyes. "I was wondering" he began "Do you remember a man named Bruce Wayne?"

Mia's featured relaxed, recognizing the name from the bag she had gotten when she woke up.

"You do" he said "Well… he's dead now. but… if you want, I can escort you to his old mansion. It's now an orphanage of course, but maybe it will help you remember something"

Mia stared at him for a moment, before nodding.

"Good…we'll be in touch"

He said his goodbyes and got to his car. it wasn't that he didn't trust the girl, he just knew that she was hiding something. He had spent the last few months trying to find the Joker's lair but without any success. He was occupying himself with it during his daily shift…

And his nightly missions…

It was tough work. And usually his whole body ached and complained when he got out of bed. But the batman had left him his legacy. And he had no choice but to protect the city he loved so much. Even if it meant pulling the truth out of her by force.

Harley walked into the warehouse, very aware of the man pointing a gun at her from across the room. She grinned wildly and hopped towards him.

"Hello Daaavid! Miss me?" she giggled as the man kept staring at her apathetically.

"We sure have Miss Quinn" she heard a familiar voice coming from the stairs. Scarecrow walked towards her slowly, his blue eye cutting through her like ice. "We haven't heard from you in a while"

"I know babe but maybe it's better to take this into your office. Dave makes me nervous" she said pouting sarcastically. He nodded and she followed him happily.

"byyye Daaave" she yelled before Scarecrow closed the door behind them.

"You are all over the place" he said before sitting down.

"Oh please I'm just having fun. And you're the one to talk Mr. I wear a scarecrow mask and shoot chemicals out of my mouth" she said sitting down. She lifted her legs up and rested her boots onto his desk.

"Tell me you'll give me the Joker's location now please"

"Ahhh no."

"What do you mean no? We agreed on this. You give me the Joker and you can have that little mouse of yours to play with"

"Well there's been a slight change of plans. See mista J threw the little mouse out. And things are back the way they're supposed to be. Apart from the fact that he is locked in his office all day. He must be planning something big. So I fear our little deal has to be cancelled"

Scarecrow stared at her taking off his glasses. "Do you honestly believe that you can walk out of here alive, after what you just told me?"

"Yes. Because I have a counter offer. I will make sure the Joker does not include your little…. Operation here in this big thing of his he is planning. He will not attack any of your businesses from now on. No more blowing up your staff and stealing your products. You will both have it your own way. No take backs"

Crane stared at her in disbelief "And you can accomplish that….how?"

"I have my ways" she said with a grin.

"Quinn explain something to me. If you have your ways then why did I find you half dead by the lighthouse?"

"That was different-"

"but was it? It just seems to be you are overestimating your power over him. if you even have any…did you ever think of that?"

Harley stared at the man and there was no sign of mockery or entertainment in her eyes. Finally, she snapped out of it.

"He stays out of your way and you stay out of his. No take backs. " she repeated harshly.

Crane looked at her and smiled to himself "I will give you one month. If nothing in fact happens, you have a deal"
