I reposted my fic, "When Demigods Use DNA Testing Kits" on Ao3 and I got a comment about the di Angelo family reunion. I got intrigued and so...here's a continuation of it. It's basically a sequel of sorts. Enjoy!
Nico's POV
Nico would have been happy to curse Percy, Jason, Annabeth, and Will before disappearing forever into the gloom of the Underworld, were it not for the fact that those curse-keeping demonic things in Tartarus existed and were not fun to fight.
So instead, he found himself standing in front of Central Park, with Argus and the Delphi Strawberry Feilds truck behind him.
Argus pointed at his watch. Nico nodded, gave a half-hearted wave, and started walking. Hazel was supposed to meet him inside the park, and he was extremely thankful she was coming along.
Luckily it didn't take long. Arion had just ran off when Nico ran up to Hazel, who was cassually leaning against a tree in his SPQR shirt and jeans.
"Hi Nico. You sure you won't scare your family off with that outfit?" Hazel asked, twirling a golden ring around her finger. Probably one she made herself, Nico thought. Glancing down at his own outfit choice (a leather jacket since the old aviator jacket was way too small now, a black version of the CHB shirt with his cabin number on it, jeans, and combat boots, as well as a belt with a skull symbol to keep his sword a little more hidden and out of the way). "And my fashion choices are fine."
"if you say so. Come on, I think I already found them." Hazel said, shrugging and heading towards a group of people setting up a large scale picnic. Nico grudgingly followed.
Augusto di Angelo turned and saw them as they came closer. His face immediately lit up. "Nico! And...Hazel, was it? Everyone, come, Nico is here!"
Hazel had to hold Nico's arm so he didn't try to step back as a surge of people went right for them.
"Nico! It's so wonderful to see that you could come!" Rosa di Angelo practically smothers him in a hug. Hazel tries not to laugh and turns to answer another relative's question on where their parents are. ("Our father is at work right now. Our mothers? Oh, they're dead, but it's alright, no really, it's fine-")
"Ok eveyrone, give the two some space! Come and eat and you can question them later." A woman Nico suspects to be a Grandma di Angelo (or something along those lines-he's given up on relatives and how everyone's related at this point) calls and soon Nico finds himself sitting between Hazel and another cousin ("Hi, I'm Lorenzo, Uncle Augusto is my dad's cousin").
Hazel gently pokes him. "Hey, now you can stop complaining you can't find any good Italian food places." she jokes. A lot of the food is a mix of Italian and American, with a few random things thrown in like English-style biscuits.
Nico rolls his eyes at his sister before filling up his plate (read: eating enough to be polite) and eating.
Everything seems pretty normal, with the family chattering amongst themselves and jokes flying around, until Lorenzo turns to him and asks, "Dude, what's with the pegasus on your shirt?"
All nearby conversation halts and several pairs of eyes turn to him. Nico shifts uncomfortably.
"Um, it's a custom-made version of my camp's shirt..." he mutters. "I mean, it was this or wear that ghastly orange thing."
"I keep telling you guys, your main building is sky blue you should get together a petition and get the shirts to match or something." Hazel tells him.
Lorenzo frowns. "So that pegasus is..your camp logo?"
"Sort of, yeah." Nico nods.
"I still say our eagle looks way cooler then your Pegasus." Hazel smirks.
"Different camps?" Elena tried to peek at Hazel's shirt but just gets more confused. "What does SPQR mean? And Delphi Strawberry Farms doesn't abreiviate to CHB."
"Elena..." Augusto reprimends. "Be polite."
Hazel raises her eyebrows at Nico, before turning back to the family. "SPQR is the motto of my camp, which is in California. I'm just here visiting. It's kind of got an Ancient Rome theme and our motto."
Nico continued, abeit more hesitantly. "CHB is our nickname for our camp. Delphi Strawberry Fieds is the company name we're under officially."
"And you're in Cabin 13? What's your counselor like?" Carla asks.
"Um..yeah. About that. I...am the counselor."
"Woah! Cool! Hey Dad, can I sign up for Nico's camp?" Lorenzo asked.
"Probably not, it's, uh, really exclusive. Invitations and all that. " Nico chcukled nervously. "Hazel's camp is worse though. Like way worse when it comes to who's allowed in."
"Yeah. Anyways, that's enough about weird camp customs, do you guys have summer plans?" Hazel asked, changing the subject quickly.
"Oh yes!" Augusto started talking about the family's summer trip to Oklahoma and Nico relaxed a bit. For once, he was very glad Camp Half-Blood ran all summer. As much as he might secretly enjoy meeting his family he much prefered Camp Half-Blood, where he had a choice about not sitting in the hot sun and could just stab someone if they got on his nerves (sometimes).
