Summary: This is my take on what happens after Season 7, Episode 13 "I Was Here." *Spoiler Alert. Please don't read until you watch the episode.

Kim just sat there.

The stark hospital bed sheets over her. The stiff hospital gown on her person. The IV poked into her arm. She felt as if she was floating; not confined to this hospital room; not tethered to this reality...Just floating. Hovering above her existence. Numb.

"I'm so very sorry... Kim, did you hear me?" The doctor asked.

Still nothing.

"Yes, I heard." She finally spoke, as she stared out of the hospital window, watching the Chicago night pass her by.

She replayed in her mind what the doctor just told her.

"The abdominal trauma you suffered was severe. Pregnancy was lost. There's no heartbeat."

In an eerie way, she felt like she already knew she lost the baby. While she was in that tub, she knew something was wrong. Taking a beating like that was bound to leave a few scars. But she was still clinging on to hope that everything would be okay, just as she was clinging on to Adam as he carried her out of that motel. But upon hearing the confirmation of her miscarriage, she was sure she'd be scarred for life.

The doctor turned to walk out of the room, just as Adam walked in. Already knowing that Adam was the father, he told him everything. Adam was devastated. He could only imagine how Kim was feeling. He approached her bedside, looking her over. She sat there emotionless. He didn't know what to do, didn't know what to say. The first thing that came to his mind and out of his mouth was, "I'll be right here Kim." He eased himself down next to her on the bed. "Still right here." He said as he put his hand over hers.

She never moved. She just sat there, still staring out of the window.

The team saw the doctor enter the hall. They all surrounded him, bombarding him with questions.

"I'm sorry, I can't disclose any information."

Voight held up his badge. "I think you can."

"Sergeant Voight, legally I can't. There are privacy laws and-"

"So you can't just tell us that she's okay?" Atwater interrupted. "Come on man, is she going to be alright?"

"Listen, I'm not allowed to-" The doctor tried to explain.

"How hard is it to say that she's going to be okay? It's really simple. Your job is simple!" Platt insulted the doctor.

Adam heard the commotion in the hall and realized he never gave the team an update. And he also didn't want anyone to disturb Kim right now. She needed peace and quiet. "I'll be right back." He told her. She just blinked her eyes, still staring out the window.

He walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. The team's attention went straight to him.

"How is she?" Jay asked.

Adam took a deep breath. "Not too good."

"How's the baby?" Hailey asked. She saw how bad of shape Kim was in at the motel.

"There is no more baby." Adam voice seemed strangled. He wiped at a tear that was threatening to fall.

The team was in shock. They all stood in silence until it became suffocating.

Hailey was the first to speak. "I'm sorry. I can't do this." She turned and quickly walked away. She was never one to wear her emotions on her sleeve. But this deeply affected her, and from her reaction, Rojas think she knew why. Jay was about to go check on his partner, but Rojas, with a nod from Trudy, volunteered.

"I'ma go back in there. Be with her." Adam said.

Voight put his hand on Adam's shoulder, "We're all here for you and Kim. If you need anything, let me know."

Everyone else gave the same sentiments.

Adam nodded a thank you and returned to the room.

"Alright, let's get out of here. Give them some space." Voight commanded his unit.

Everyone began leaving, a dark cloud hung over them. They had their answer, emotionally...Kim wasn't okay.
