A/N: Hope you guys enjoyed the last chapter. Now we would really be getting into Aemon's story since all of the previous chapters were more or less the prologue of his story and the Kingdom. Please review and tell me what you guys like and don't like so I can improve the story and any mistakes that I have made. I know I will most likely make some grammar errors but I try to minimize them so it is not awful to read. The last thing I will say is that I post as I write so when I make an author's note it is how I'm feeling and thinking about the story. Therefore that is subject to change with what I feel is best and also your reviews.
And another thing, this is about Winterfell. I will be using the book version of it. For a video of what Winterfell is supposed to look like go to YouTube and check out Shadiversity's The True Winterfell According to the Books.
Aemon The Dragonwolf
Chapter 6: The Beginning of a Legend
"Robb!" Jon yelled after his brother. He was dragging his sword behind him. Knowing there was going to be a spar coming and ready for the training session. Ser Roderick smiled as he came across the yard. After knowing the truth he wanted nothing more than to protect the boy.
Robb turned to look at his bastard brother. "About time you come. I thought I would have to train by myself, dear brother." The heir of Winterfell said, much to his mothers ire, who was watching. Everyone knew the hatred that Catelyn had for Jon Snow. And since Lord Stark wasn't there because of the war, Lady Stark made it known who was incharge in place of her husband
Lady Stark walked down to the yard and spoke to her son. "Robb, you are the Heir of the North. You cannot be associating with a bastard, no matter what you feel toward them." she said though at the end she turned to young Jon and furrowed her eyebrows and spoke with disdain.
"Mother, I wish to train with Jon. He is my brother!" Robb said to his mother. "Mi Lady, Lord Stark has saiā¦.." Ser Roderick spoke before Lady Stark cut him off.
"No, I will not let the bastard interfere with my son's training. I will not let the bastard near him. I don't care what my husband says." The Trout said with hatred in her voice.
"But mother!" The Lady's eldest son tried to protest. "No Robb, you will not train with him." Catelyn said. "He will only try to take Winterfell from you."
Jon looked down, before he dropped his training sword before he ran away from the training grounds. Roderick wanted to run after him but thought best not to. He turned to his nephew who has been his personal guard. Jory followed after his young charge with a sigh. He cared not if the boy was a bastard. His father loved the boy and told him to always protect young Snow. He was still Jory's charge and will do his duty to his father and Lord Stark and protect the boy he was in charge of.
"You are wrong about Jon, mother! He will never overthrow me!" Robb yelled to his mother.
"You don't know that, Robb." Lady Stark tried to tell her son. "Yes, mother! I do know that! I know he will never overthrow me"! Lady Stark tried to protest more but the young heir wouldn't listen to her, much to the pride of Ser Roderick.
"Your father is not here, therefore I'm in charge so he is not allowed to train with you." Lady Stark told her son and glared at the guards around him which included Ser Roderick. He wasn't happy about it. He couldn't wait until his lord came back and told the lady the truth.
Jon did not know where he was running, only that he was running to get away from Lady Stark, He didn't realize but he happened to run to the entrance of the crypts. He just had this pull toward it that he couldn't ignore. He started walking into the crypts after feeling the pull, not noticing that Jory failed to see him go into the crypts.
The young bastard started walking down into the one place only Starks go. As he passed by the Statues of the former Kings of Winter and the most notable of Starks he started hearing voices. "You don't belong here, boy!"
"Begone, Dragon. You don't belong among wolves."
"After what the Dragons have done you dare show yourself here!"
He continued following the pull trying to ignore the voices he was hearing. But then he heard a different voice. A voice of a young woman that made him stop and listen. "Stop, stop, enough! Leave him alone! He has wolf blood in his veins." To him that voice was the most beautiful he has ever heard and it was coming from the same place that the pull was.
"He has every right to be here!" The voice told the others. "You will not tell he does not belong!" He felt like the voice turned to him. "Come, my Dragonwolf. Come to me." he continued to follow the pull until he came upon the statue of Lyanna Stark. He sat down next to the coffin as leaning against it. "It's ok to cry, my heart." the woman's voice said which caused him to cry.
It was hours later when Jory and Ser Roderick found him, much to the relief of both of them. Robb did not stop being worried until his brother was found, much to the annoyance of his mother.
The Ship of the King was sitting at the dock off of Pyke waiting to load all of the occupants that are heading north. The only ones going North other than the Northmen on the west side were, Oberyn and a group of fifty guards, The King, three Kingsguard and followed by other Baratheon guards. He did have some Lannister guards that he originally had with him much to his wife's insistence but in the company of the Dornish he sent them back to King's Landing.
"Howland!" Oberyn yelled as he saw the small Lord of Greywater Watch when he boarded the ship with the King and Lord Stark that would take them to Sea Dragon Point. Oberyn's Daughters and Ellaria followed behind him onto the ship.
The Prince of Dorne went up to the small lord and gave him a hug. " It has been many years, my friend. How have you been? " The little Lord of Greywater Watch returned the hug before turning to the ones following him.
"I've been good, My Prince. Who are these beautiful young ladies that you have with you?" Oberyn turned to look at his daughters and his former paramour now betrothed. He looked to them before Obara stepped forward.
"This is my eldest, Obara." He told his friend as he put his hand on his eldest daughters back and nudged her toward Lord Reed. "She was the one that fought with me on Pyke!" He said proudly, much to Obara's pleasure.
He pulled the most beautiful of his daughters. Nymeria, who was ten and five, to the front. "This is my second Nymeria." Oberyn said with pride. " After the Princess of Dorne?" Howland asked, while smiling. "Yes," Oberyn said laughing. "She is definitely beautiful enough to be a princess." Howland said while laughing.
"This is my third daughter Tyene." he said pointing to a blonde preteen that looked even more dangerous than Obara. Not because of her fighting skills but because of her innocence and her eyes. Shed curtsied to the Lord that her father considered a friend.
He beconded his shy, nine name day old, daughter forward. She clung to his leg as he Introduced her. "This is Sarella." Howland smiled at the dark skinned girl before turning to the beautiful woman that stood by his friend's side.
Oberyn put his hand on her lower back and gestured to her with love in his eyes. "And this is my lovely betrothed, and mother of my two youngest daughters Elia and Obella, Ellaria Uller." Howland took her offered hand and placed a kiss upon her knuckles before turning back to Oberyn.
"You have a lovely family, my friend."
"What about you?" The Prince of Dorne asked as they walked to the compartments that they will be staying in. "What of your family?"
"First is my beautiful wife who has blessed me with two wonderful children. Her name is Jyana." Ellaria smiled at the love Lord Reed had in his voice for his wife.
"My daughter, Meera, is six name days and has already been pestering me about learning to fight." He said while laughing, which Oberyn joined in. "She wishes to learn the Trident since it is the preferred weapon of the Crannogmen along with a bow. I told her we'll start with the spear."
"No doubt she'll make a fine warrior." Oberyn said Howland laughed and nodded his head.
"Yes she will. My son, and heir, is three name days who has shown signs of the gifts of the First Men as I and most Reeds do." Oberyn understood what he was talking about since they talked a bit about it when they left the Tower of Joy. The Ladies didn't understand though but Oberyn and Lord Reed told them the truth about the greenseers.
Lord Reed and Prince Oberyn told the girls what a greenseer was and the story of the First Men and how the Reeds were one of the oldest families in Westeros along with the Starks. The Ladies of Dorne were shocked but knew that their father wouldn't believe something that wasn't true. They looked at the little Lord of Greywater Watch with respect that no one ever shows him.
"Well, my friend, I can't wait to meet them. Perhaps on our way back from Winterfell we will stop at Greywater Watch."
"As I told you before, you are always welcome, my friend."Howland said with a smile.
The Ships left the docks and started heading took them a week to land at Sea Dragon Point and knew it would be another week before they'd Reach the heart of the North.
Lady Catelyn was eating dinner with her son and daughter, young Arya with her nursemaid and the bastard eating in his room, much to her son's ire. She cared not. She would not let the bastard that shamed her so become close to her heir. Luwin came walking in with a letter bearing the Stark seal, a letter from her Ned. She pulled the letter open and started to read.
My dearest Cat,
The war is over. Everyone is ok. Balon Greyjoy has bent the knee. His only remaining son Theon will be coming to stay at Winterfell as a Ward inorder to keep Balon in line. I, along with The King, his men, and Oberyn, his daughters, betrothed, and guard will be coming to visit. MAke sure we have accommodations for everyone. We will be arriving in two weeks time from when I'm writing this letter. So the 8th day of the 11th month.
With Love, Ned
Catelyn had a relieved smile one her face knowing Ned was alive. She has had lights in her eyes when she saw the King would be with him. She knew he had a Son that is just two name days older than Sansa. She might be able to plant a seed in his head about a match with between them.
"Luwin the war is over and my husband is heading home." Luwin was also relieved and Robb's gloomy expression turned to a happy smile.
"Father is returning mother, is he ok?" he heir asked
"Papa coming home, mama?" Sansa asked.
"He is my loves. And better yet, the King and Prince Oberyn travel with him." Luwin gasped.
"The King comes, also? And The Red Viper?" Luwin said stunned
"Maybe the Sword of the Morning is with him! Maybe he could teach me some things!" Robb said.
Catelyn smiled at him. She knew of his love for swords. "I'm sure he would love to teach you, Robb." she turned to Luwin. "She also made it known that we will be getting a Ward. Balon Greyjoy's only remaining son."
The next day she went to the bastard and told him the news. She made it known that he was to stay away from the King and the Prince of Dorne and not do anything that would shame the house.
After a week at sea and two weeks of riding they finally came into view of the massive castle. When all of the ones that have not seen the castle saw it they stopped and stared in awe at the most massive of castles in all of Westeros.
"Look at the size of her! Ned, you always told me how grand Winterfell was but I never thought it would be this great." The King said in awe.
"It is truly amazing. I have always wanted to see the castle built by Bran the Builder." Oberyn said, Ellaria and his daughters agreeing with him.
"Yes she is wonderful. The outer wall is a hundred feet high, while the inner wall is on higher ground and is roughly eighty feet high with a moat in between them." He continued to talk about his family's castle on the ride to the gates, telling them that five hundred men could hold off an army of ten thousand, about the godswood inside the castle walls, and even the hot springs that naturally keep the castle warm. "There is a legend that there are supposedly dragons below the crypt that causes the hot springs." Ser Barristan looked at Ser Arthur with a knowing look, just as Robert looked to Oberyn. Ser Jaime saw the look that Barristan gave Ser Arthur but said nothing of it.
The all rode through Wintertown everyone noticing how barren it looked. When the people noticed that their Lord and The King were riding they all cheered and moved out of the way.
"Ned, why is the town so barren compared to the amount of buildings and houses?" Robert asked. The Lord of the North laughed and turned to his friend.
"Wintertown is more of a haven for the people in the Stark land during Winter. Most of the people that do end up staying here have land and farms so they return to them during Summer. Since Winter ended last year they have all returned to their lands. The ones that are here now actually live here."
"Is Winter really that bad here, my Lord?" Obara asked.
"I don't know how bad you have heard it is, But it is probably worse. This last one wasn't as long as we expected so I have a feeling the next Winter will be one of the worst in centuries." Lord Stark replied to her, not realizing how true he was, since it isn't just snow that will come.
They approached the gates of Winterfell, everyone once again in awe at the massive wall outside the castle. The gates of the first gatehouse opened, they crossed the lowered drawbridges before going to throw the open gates of the inner gatehouse and into the yard. They continued until they came upon the courtyard where many people were lined up to greet their Lord and the King.
Lord Stark at the front with Arya in her arms and Robb and Sansa in front of her. Ser Roderick stood next to her and many of the servants and guards around her. He frowned when he noticed he couldn't see his nephew or Jory.
He dismounted their horses and moved toward his wife. "Cat! I have missed you." he said to her as he hugged and kissed her.
"I've missed you as well, Ned." she said with a smile. Lord Stark looked down at Robb. "I hope you have been taking care of your mother and sisters, Robb."
"Of course, father." he said as he hugged his father. Ned knelt down to Sansa. "How has my beautiful girl been?" he asked Sansa.
"I've been good, Papa. I missed you." she said as he gave her a big hug and kissed her on her forehead. He stood and kissed his little daughter, Arya, on the forehead.
The King walked up to Lady Stark and gave her a hug. "Cat, it has been too long! I pray you have been well?" Lady Catelyn looked flustered when the King himself hugged her but she kept her composure.
"I have been well, Your Grace. Please allow me to introduce my children. My son and heir, Robb. I named him after you. I knew it would be a name my husband would like." Robert laughed joyfully and knelt down to Robb.
"You'll make a great Warden of the North won't you."
"I won't let my father down, Your Grace." Robb said with confidence which caused both his father and the King to smile at him. He turned to the young girl and asked.
"Who is this young lady?"
"This is my eldest daughter, Sansa. She is three name days old." Sansa tried to curtsy like her mother started teaching her but she was still too young so it was very shaky.
"The King smiled at her, "You will be a beautiful lady when you get older. And no doubt you would be great friends with my daughter who is the same age as you." Sansa blushed at his comment and beamed up at him.
Oberyn and his family stepped forward. Lady Stark curtsied and held out her hand for Oberyn to kiss. "Prince Oberyn, you honor Winterfell with your presence." she said to the Prince of Dorne.
"My Lady, Lord Stark spoke highly of you, so it is an honor to meet you."
She introduced her children to the Prince. He happened to like the little heir. He saw confidence and kindness in his eyes but also the honor of his father and determination children his age didn't usually show.
"May I introduce my Family." Oberyn brought each of them forward to introduce them to the lady of the North, though he and the rest of his family had the same thought in their minds. They all didn't really like her.
"You have a wonderful family, My Prince." Catelyn told him.
"Cat, where is Jon?" Ned asked him. Cat pursed her lips.
"Yes I remember the young tyke used to pull on my beard. I'd like to see the young boy as well." Robert told her, making her mood sour even more at the thought of The King wanting to see the bastard. Oberyn, his family, and two out of the three Kingsguard present narrowed their eyes at her scowl.
"He's over here, father." Robb said with both a scowl and happiness. A scowl at how his mother has acted toward his brother and happiness at the fact that with his father back Jon would be able to spend time with him again.
Lord Stark's heir started pushing to the back of the welcoming party while everyone else started to disperse. His father, along with the King, Oberyn, and all those who knew the truth followed the young heir.
When they came up the boy, the ones that knew who he was, gasped at the resemblance to Rhaegar he had. If he had silver hair and purple eyes then they could easily tell that they were father and son. They did notice that his eyes had a tint of lilac and a few strands of silver in his hair.
Jon bowed. "Father it is great to see you. Im happy you are ok." He said
Ned hugged him."I'm glad to see you again. There are some people here to see you. They were there when your mother gave you to me." Jon's eyes lit up since he never gets to hear of his mother. Robb was happy at the fact that his brother was getting attention, and in a good way not in the kind of attention he gets from his mother.
Ned gestured to the King. "This is King Robert." Jon's eyes light up and be bowed.
"No need to bow, lad. My beard still hurts from when you used to pull on it as a babe on our way back from Dorne." Robert boomed while laughing. Jon tried to apologize to him but the King waved him off.
The king turned to Oberyn and beckoned him forward. "This is Oberyn Martell ,he helped us find your mother. And the one you became closest two after we returned with you. At least until we parted ways."
"It is an honor to see you again, young one." The Viper said as he introduced himself to his nephew. He then introduced his betrothed and his daughters to him who immediately took a liking to him.
Jon was happy with the attention that he was getting. He didn't really like attention but since it was people that didn't look at him with scorn he kind of liked it.
Martyn stepped forward and put his hand on his son's shoulder. "My King, My Prince, may I introduce my son Jory Cassel. He is six and ten name days." he spoke with pride about his son. "Son this is King Robert, Prince Oberyn Martell, his daughters, Obara, Nymeria, Tyene, and Sarella, His betrothed Ellaria, and I'm sure you recognize Ser Barriston, Ser Arthur, and Ser Jaime Lannister." When he introduced each of them they nodded their heads to the young man. Obara's eyes lingered on his frame longer than normal. Nymeria and Tyene smirked when they saw her gaze. Ellaria too noticed, she leaned in and whispered into her betrothed's ear. Oberyn smirked and introduced himself to the young man.
"After fighting alongside him, I can proudly say you have a great warrior as a father." Oberyn told the young man.
"Thank you for your kind words, My Prince."
"Jory is Jon's personal assigned guard." Martyn told them with a look that the few noticed.
"Well let's get in and relax after this war and long journey." The King said out loud. He turned to Ned and spoke softly in his ear. "When do you want to tell the boy? It would be best to do it sooner than later."
"Tomorrow would be best. Let everyone take this night to relax." Ned replied back softly. The King nodded and asked Lady Stark if she could have everyone settle into their rooms. She nodded and started giving orders to the servants.
"We have a feast we are preparing, My Lord. Would everyone like to rest and relax before the feast?" Catelyn asked Ned.
"Yes that would be great.
The next morning Ned was in the training yard with Robb and his new ward, Theon. He had sent for Ser Roderick to go get Jon. He was angry with his wife after his son told her about not letting the boys train together.
The King and Oberyn walked into the yard with Obara. Ser Arthur was on duty so he was behind the King, Ser Barriston and Ser Jaime were off duty but still went to the training yard to practice.
"Now show me what Ser Roderick has been teaching you." Ned told his son causing the boy to get into a stance. Robb attacked his father with an aggressive fury of attacks. He wanted to show his father and the King what he could do. He has gotten faster since he last lost to Jon in front of his father, unfortunately he was still relying on strength. Against another boy his age it would work, but against someone like his father who was a very skilled swordsman, it wouldn't work.
"Stop" Ned told him after a couple of minutes. "You have gotten faster, son. You are still being too forward and relying on strength." Ned could hear Robert telling him that that's what he usually does. Ned turned to him with a 'really' expression. "Not everyone has the strength of an ox like you do." Everyone chuckled from the comment.
Ser Roderick came walking back in at the beginning of Lord Stark's words to his son. "I keep telling him that, My Lord. It will work on boys his age that are smaller than him and weaker."
"Except Jon." Robb grumbled to himself. His father and Ser Roderick heard him.
"That is because Jon adapts to whoever he is fighting. He relies on patience and speed." The knight told him.
Jon walked into the training yard and went up to his father. Jory followed behind him and went to stand next to his father who was coincidently beside Oberyn and Obara, the latter of which smiled shyly at him.
"Jon, show me what you have learned then you can spar with Robb." he gestured for Robb to go stand by the others while he told Jon to get into stance.
Everyone that knew the truth waited in anticipation. They all knew that Rhaegar didn't like to fight but was still a natural with a sword. They wondered if his son inherited his fathers natural skill.
Jon attacked his supposed father with a couple of different strikes in different areas. To the others it looked like he was testing his opponent which they approved of, not knowing that was exactly what he was doing. He noticed his father was slightly favoring his left leg, most likely from an injury on his right leg.
Jon started moving to his left and would strike toward his fathers right side before moving back and starting again. Since his father was right handed he would strike from right to left which would cause his right side to be open for a split second if he were to dodge the attack. Jon fainted to his fathers left leg which caused the Warden to bring his sword to his left side in a diagonal ark to deflect the attack. Jon spun left under Ned's swing and hit him in the side of the knee causing the Warden to buckle to a knee and Jon moved again and slashed at his back.
"Okay okay. That's enough, Jon." Ned got up and everyone started clapping including some of the guards that liked him. "You have improved even more than before I left."
"I've been training hard, Father." Jon said before Robb came up and gave him a hug.
"That was amazing, Jon!" His brother told him excitedly. "How did you do that?"
"Patience and analyzing your opponent, young Stark." Ser Arthur told the boy. "Jon first tested Lord Stark for weaknesses which he found as an injury on his leg and exploited it. He didn't try to overpower a much stronger opponent."
"Perhaps you, Barristan, and Jaime could show the boys some things." Robert told the knights.
While the Kingsguard had the boys spar together Obara asked Jory if he would like to spar, something Jory was weary of.
"What not wanting to fight a girl." Obara asked.
"More like I will lose to a girl. I heard a bit about Pyke. They say you are very skilled." Obara blushed from the praise of Jory. "Anyway I've tried fighting against spears. Not very good at it."
"Well I could help you learn to counter them."
Jory just shrugged. "Sure why not."
Jory walked over to grab a training sword and she grabbed a training spear not wanting to risk using live steel. The both stood across from another waiting for the other to move. Some of the Winterfell guards started cheering him on.
"Come on, Jory!"
"You got this, Jory"
Obara stepped forward and thrust her spear and Jory batted it aside. She followed it up with a slash at his calf that connected. Jory winced in pain before narrowing his eyes at her and batted a couple of more strikes from her. She was putting him on the defensive not allowing him to get within a swords length from her. She finished it by batting his sword to the side and held the tip of her spear and his throat. Martyn just chuckled to Oberyn. Both of which were watching.
"See I'm not good against spears."
"You are fast with your hands and have skill with a sword but you stay too still. You need to move more and get in close where I can not get extended." Obara said.
They started to spar again, Jory doing much better this time, while their fathers talked. "Your boy has skill, going against a weapon you are not used to is difficult but he is picking up how to go against a spear pretty well." Oberyn said.
"Aye, he's a good lad. He trains hard, wants to be a knight like his uncle."
"He has great potential." Oberyn said. He said as Jory was able to get inside of Obara's spear and delivered a couple of strikes with his sword before she was able to finish him off with her spear. Oberyn smiled as Ellaria and his other daughters walked up to him.
"Good morning, My Love." she said as they turned to watch Jon defeat Robb for the third time. Happy to see that Lord Stark's heir didn't get mad when he lost, only that he had a more determined look in his eye.
They trained some more. Jory was able to defeat Obara once and Jon beat Robb twice more before he beat Theon twice. Lord Stark gave everyone a tour around Winterfell, both to the happiness of Robert and Oberyn who were excited to see the ancient castle.
When Robert asked to go into the crypts to pay his respects Ned told him not yet. "Not until Jon knows the truth" he told Robert quietly, to which the King understood.
As the sun was beginning to set Lord Stark told the Prince and the King to meet him in his solar in an hour. He told Ser Roderick to bring his wife and son and for Martyn to bring Jon and Jory.
When the King walked into his room Ser Arthur entered with him. "Your Grace." The knight said, waiting for the King to let him speak. Robert gestured for him to continue, "I believe you should allow Ser Jaime in on the secret of the Prince." Robert looked shocked and almost yelled but kept his voice calm. Though there was an edge of anger behind it.
"A Lannister? A son of Tywin no less? My wife's brother no less. He may tell his father thinking we will try to overthrow his nephew's claim."
"I can honestly say there was no one that cared for Rhaegar like I, Your Grace. And I would never put his son in harm's way." Robert knew this. He may be his Kingsguard but Ser Arthur was devout to Rhaegar and therefore his son. "I am very confident that Ser Jaime would choose Rhaegar's son over his own family, especially his father."
"I wish to talk to him myself. Call him and I wish for you and Barristan to be there." Arthur left to go get Ser Jaime and Ser Barristan. Several minutes later the three Kingsguard walked into the King's chambers. Arthur walked behind the King with Barristan walking to the side and Jaime walking in front of the King.
"You called me, Your Grace?" Ser Jaime said as he bowed. Robert nodded.
"Just something I've wondered about Ser." Jaime nodded waiting for him to continue. "As you know I wasn't too happy when your father brought in Rhaegar's children into the throne room that day." Jaime nodded again, not happy himself. He loved little Rhaenys and smiled at the memory of Elia's happiness at the look of Aegon.
"I'm wondering if Rhaegar's children survived, would you keep them a secret?" Robert could see the conflicted look on the Golden Lion's face. Jaime Looked to Arthur and Barristan. "No..No don't look at them. See I already know that they would, along with Ser Gerold and Ser Oz. I'm asking if you. The son of Tywin Lannister would." it was then that Jaime saw what Robert meant. He knew that Robert hated what his father did to Rhaegar's children and Elia, something that he agreed with. Because of that, he hated his father to an extent.
"Yes...Yes I would. I loved Rhaegar as everyone else did and I hated my father for allowing what happened to Rhaegar's children to happen." Jaime said with finality and seriousness in his voice that caused the three others to know he was telling the truth.
"That is all I wished to know." Robert said after he got a nod from Arthur and Barristan. " you will join Arthur and Barristan to a meeting that I will be going to tonight." Jaime nodded but was still confused. "You will know more but know that the contents are too remain secret." Robert told him but leaving him more confused.
Ned sat in the solar taking a sip of wine, Howland was already there sitting next to him. His wife and son came in looking confused but sat in the chairs that he offered to them. Next came Oberyn and Ellaria, the Prince decided his daughters were best not to be there. The King and the three Kingsguard came in next, Ned asked about Ser Jaime but Robert and Ser Arthur vouched for him. Catelyn didn't understand what was going on but a word from Ned kept her quiet.
Jon and Jory came in and Ned told him to come up next to his side, with Jory behind him. Finally Martyn and Ser Roderick came in the door carrying a very dusty chest, they made sure that there were no guards around and that the door was locked. They set the chest on the table before they walked to the side.
Lord Stark stood up and looked at everyone. "What we speak on here is not to be repeated until the necessary time". He knew that everyone else would agree but he looked at his wife the hardest. His wife was still confused but stayed quiet, not sure what to say. "I'm being very serious, Cat. This is not to leave this room." He said as he glared at her. She replied with a nod. He turned to Robb and made him understand that this is to stay a secret.
Ned turned to Jon, put his hand on Jon's shoulder, and spoke. "We are here to talk about your mother." His wife had a huge scowl on her face. 'That's the big secret? To talk about the bastard's mother? Well atleast I finally know who the whore is'. "And you father,"Ned said. 'wait what? Father but that would mean that Ned isn't his father, I don't understand.'
"My Mother?"Jon asked happily but then was more confused when his father said 'and your father'. "What do you mean and my father? You are my father."
"No I am not," Ned said and blew off the dust from the chest revealing the Targaryen symbol which made Jon, Catelyn, Robb, and Ser Jaime gasp. "Your father is Rhaegar Targaryen." Catelyn gasped even more. Jon looked shocked. "And your mother is my sister Lyanna Targaryen of House Stark." Jaime looked pale as he turned to Arthur and Barristan, they both just nodded. He now understood what the King meant earlier about protecting Rhaegar's children. He failed with Rhaenys and Aegon but he won't fail with this child.
"But I thought Rhaegar kidnapped her?" Catelyn asked. Everyone glared at her except for Robb who was unsure of everything.
"Rhaegar never kidnapped her. My sister sent us a letter telling us that Rhaegar was taking her as a second wife alongside Elia, and she confirmed it when we found her in Dorne." Oberyn said.
"Yes it is true" the King. "Lyanna herself confirmed it before she died of birth complications."
Jons legs gave out so he just sat down on the floor before Ellaria went up and hugged him. All of the people in the room looked at him with pity, except Catelyn because she has her eyes closed thinking about all the terrible things she had done to the boy.
Jon stayed on the floor for a few minutes crying while Ellaria just held him and whispered sweet words in his ear to calm him down. When he calmed down he turned to his uncle, though he thought it weird to think of him as that.
"What is my real name?"
"Your real name is Aemon. Prince Aemon Targaryen Fourth of His Name." Catelyn held even more fear in her eyes because not only was she unkind to her nephew but her nephew who was a prince as well. The now known Aemon looked around until he heard Robb laugh.
"Well you always pretended to be Aemon the Dragonknight whenever we sparred. I guess you are just Aemon the Dragonwolf instead." Robb said which caused Jon to laugh much to everyone's relief since he was crying moments ago.
Robb went up and hugged Jon. "You will still always be my brother. No matter what." Everyone smiled at that, they could clearly see the bond between the two.
"What's to happen now?" Jon asked.
"You will be heading to King's Landing to ward with the King and train with the Kingsguard." both Jon and Robb's eyes lit up, though the latter had both jealousy, sadness, and happiness in his eyes. Jealousy because he didn't get to go train under the Kingsguard. Sadness because Jon, or Aemon, would be leaving. And happiness because out of anyone that deserves it it is his brother. He will never stop calling him his brother.
Robert continued where Ned left off. "When you are done you will go ward in Dorne with both of your uncles Oberyn and Doran. "
"Uncles?" He cut off the King confused, turning to Oberyn. The Prince of Dorne smiled.
"Both my sister Elia and your mother were the wives of your Father. Elia's children were your blood sister and brother. Elia considered you her goodson so, yes, Doran and I consider you our nephew." This made Jon smile.
Robert continued. "Then when you are of age and ready you will become Lord of Dragonstone." Ser Jaime, Jory, and Robb looked shocked but got over it quickly and smiled. "Dragonstone has always belonged to the Targaryens. You can't have the throne but the island is you right."
"In this chest are some of your mother's and father's possessions and letters to you from your mother, father, and Elia. along with various letters between all of them and from to and from your father and Aemon III Targaryen, the maester at the wall." Ned saw the hesitant look on his nephews face so he added, "you can open it whenever you wish. Just do it in private." Aemon nodded with a relieved sigh. He was already overwhelmed with this news and he felt if he looked in the chest now he would become even more so and pass out.
"Go and rest, if you are up for it then you can come hunting with us tomorrow to take your mind off of everything." Ned told him
"I wish to come"
The following day everyone was out hunting. They ended up killing two rabbits,a stag, and two doe. The guardsmen with them carried the dead animals and put them on the horses to take back to the castle. Everyone was walking through the woods when they came across a very rare site even in the North.
A massive wolf lay dead with a wound in its chest. Robb and Jon walked up to the wolf when Jory and Martyn pulled them back. "Don't, it could be dangerous." Martyn said.
"It's a freak," young Theon said.
"It's a Direwolf," Lord Stark told him.
"Amazing!" Robert said in shock
"A Direwolf south of the wall? One hasn't been seen south of the wall in ages. " Ser Roderick said. "Definitely not this far south." he added.
Oberyn crept up to touch the rare creature. He was petting its fur when he noticed that it was a she and she has very recently been pregnant. "Look she had recently given birth."
"Lord Stark, come here!" Howland said They all rushed over to him. "Look! Pups!" he said again holding up a grey pup that looked no older than eight weeks old, well by Direwolf standards anyway. They looked like six month old regular wolves.
Ned picked up one that had shaggy black fur while Robb picked up one that had grey fur. Ned looked to his son holding the pup before turning to Ser Roderick.
"Best to put them out of their misery. They won't survive without their mother. "
"But father!" Robb yelled. Trying to keep Ser Roderick from taking the pup.
"They don't belong down here." The knight told the boy.
"Lord Stark, wait!" Jon said. Everyone turned to him. "The Direwolf is the sigil of your house. Look there are five pups, three male and two female. You already have two girls and another child on the way. Perhaps it is a sign that you will have five Stark children, and one for each of them. Didn't the old Kings of winter used to have Direwolves?"
Ned looked thoughtful and Robb looked at him with hope. The Lord turned to his son and spoke with a seriousness in his voice. "You will train them yourselves, you will feed them yourselves, and should they die, you will bury them yourselves." He turned as walked off.
Martyn, Oberyn, Jory, and Ser Roderick picked up the other four pups. Robb turned to Jon, "You don't want a Direwolf?"
"I'm not a Stark." He replied.
They started following everyone before Jon stopped because he heard a noise. Robb noticed his brother stop and turned to him, "What is it, Jon?" Everyone turned around to look at Jon. He heard the noise again.
He followed it until he came upon another Direwolf pup. This one was all white and has blood red eyes. He picked him up. And started walking back to the group.
"He traveled away from the others." Howland said before looking to everyone else. "Interesting.
"Come let us go, I'm starving." Robert said.
A/N: Hope everyone liked that chapter. So Jon finally knows the truth and now some more people know about him. Next up we will see them travel to King's Landing and possibly Lannisport for the torney. Not sure if i will get to that in the next chapter or not. Hope everyone is staying safe and well. Until next time.
