She was hard at work when Niles entered the living room. Immediately he smiled and leaned across the table that she'd been working on. His kiss was soft and warm and she couldn't deny that she wanted more.
"You look absolutely adorable!" He said, gazing at her wardrobe. It wasn't often that she wore denim overalls, a white t-shirt and goggles. But it was all to help his father. However, now she was interested in more than making a table. She wanted romance.
Niles grinned, making her heart flutter. "Any chance of sneaking off to your room while the foreman's away?"
She blushed, feeling like a school girl. "We shouldn't. Your father would kill me. And you know that I promised him that I'd build this table for him." She smiled and reached for his hand. "But you're more than welcome to help me work on it if you want to."
As she'd feared, he looked away, embarrassed. Ever since she'd volunteered to help Martin, Niles had become quiet, reserved. And suddenly she had a change of heart, and no longer cared what Martin Crane thought. "You know, I think that maybe I can sneak away after all."
Niles stared at her in disbelief. "Are you sure?"
She laid the goggles on the table and went to him, wrapping her arms around him. "Come on… my break won't last forever."
At the sight of her mischievous grin, he took her hand and led her into their bedroom. They'd barely gotten the door closed when they fell onto the bed kissing passionately. His hand reached for the metal clasp on her overalls, and unfastened it, letting it fall from her shoulders. And then he did the same to the other side. His arms went around her body and their passionate kisses deepened, making her shudder with desire for him. But after a few moments, she sat up, breathless. "I should get back to work."
His expression was one of disappointment that surely mirrored her own. "Do you have to?"
She smiled and kissed him again. "I promise to make it up to you. Right after I finish the table."
"I'm going to hold you to that." He grinned while she fastened her overalls once more. They kissed again and then joined hands, making their way back into the living room. Reluctantly she resumed her place in the foyer where she began working on the table once more. But she could hardly wait to finally be finished and in the arms of the man she loved. She meant what she'd said. She'd make it up to him… and it would be a moment that neither of them would ever forget.
