Dawn trembled as she clung Mattie, the name she gave Baby Yoda, close to her. She was still processing that her plush doll was alive. Having a real life Baby Yoda was one thing. But to have a real life Kylo Ren sitting on her hotel bed was something else.
"The girl I heard so much about," a masked Kylo stated. Dawn could not tell from his modulated voice what his reaction was to being in the room with them.
She tried to scream, but could not. She heard Mattie whimper in fear.
"Please go away," Dawn thought to herself, as she saw Kylo rise from the bed. He tilted his head to study the beautiful young woman. She had golden brown hair and icy blue eyes. In her arms was a small, green creature, with big eyes and pointed ears. The child held in his hands what looked like a miniature version of his lightsaber.
"No!" Dawn was finally able to yell. She turned her back on Kylo, so that Mattie would be protected. She gazed at the child, who was ready to fight Kylo with the keychain.
"This is not the way!" she reminded Mattie. He remembered that Din used to say the same thing to him. He handed the keychain to Dawn.
"It's okay," Dawn uttered breathlessly, as she heard Mattie start to whimper. As she tried to calm him down, she snapped at Kylo,
"Are you happy, scaring a little child?"
She was confused when she heard a hissing sound. Hesitantly, she turned around to see him remove his mask.
"Oh my God!" she marveled to herself. She was right. Kylo Ren was really in her room!
He set his helmet on the nightstand. The sound made both Dawn and Mattie jerk in fear. Kylo turned to face them and asked,
"Why did you bring me here?"
"We didn't. But you can leave," Dawn replied.
Kylo focused his attention on Mattie. The creature was small, but powerful in the Force. With training, the child would be a threat to those who opposed the First Order.
He drew closer to them. Kylo frowned as Dawn turned her back on him.
"Please, just go," she moaned, trying to fight back tears. She quivered as he came around to face her. Dawn tried to turn away, but couldn't. Kylo had frozen her in place!
"You're so lonely, so afraid to leave," Kylo said softly.
"Get out of my head!" Dawn snapped at him.
"I was actually talking to the child."
Dawn's eyes widened when he said this. Kylo looked down at Mattie and added,
"You are strong with the Force, Mattie. Untrained, but stronger than you know."
Dawn held a gasp from escaping her mouth. He knew Mattie's name! She gulped nervously as Kylo shifted his attention to her.
"You're not alone," he gently told her.
"I'm not," Dawn declared defiantly. "I have him."
"But you want more."
"No. You don't know me. No one does."
"I do know you, Dawn. I know you will do anything to protect Mattie."
To himself, Kylo thought,
"And I feel your desire for me."
Dawn suddenly jerked when the telephone rang.
"You are not to tell anyone I am here," Kylo warned her, as he pointed to the phone. She approached the phone, and adjusted Mattie to hold him in one arm.
"Hello?" she answered the call, as calmly as she could.
"Dawn, this is Joe, your lightsaber instructor," the man replied on the other line.
"I wanted to make sure you saw your surprise, for getting the perfect score in lightsaber training."
"I did. I wasn't expecting to see Kylo on my bed."
Kylo approached to disconnect the call. Joe said to Dawn,
"I saw you had the Kylo Ren backpack, and thought you would like the plush bear of him."
"What?" Dawn exclaimed to herself.
"Anyway, just wanted to make sure you received the bear, the flowers and the chocolates," Joe added.
"I did," Dawn uttered, still in shock over what Joe had said. Recovering, she stated,
"Thank you. It was an unexpected surprise."
She glanced up at Kylo, who noticed the pale expression on her face.
"You're welcome. Have a good night, and may the Force be with you!"
The call was disconnected. Dawn put the receiver down, and sat on the bed.
"Why is this happening to me?" she nervously exclaimed.
"The Force works in mysterious ways," Kylo replied, sitting next to her. He sensed her confusion. Even he did not understand how he ended up here.
"This doesn't make any sense! How could you or Mattie..." Dawn began to say before realizing Mattie was not with her.
"Mattie?" she gasped, full of panic. She turned, and rolled her eyes. Mattie had slipped out of her arms, and was in the middle of the bed. The box of chocolates was nearly empty, and his face was full of chocolate.
"Those were my chocolates," she teasingly scolded him. Her eyes widened as the roses floated into Kylo's hand.
"For you," he said with a wink, before giving Dawn the bouquet of flowers.
"Thanks," she whispered, gazing into his brown eyes. Mattie grunted in annoyance.
"What's wrong?" she asked. The child pointed to Kylo, who held a piece of chocolate.
"No. This is hers," Kylo sternly told Mattie. He pouted, before he saw a rose float in his direction. He took the flower and cooed happily.
Dawn smiled before turning to face Kylo. He caressed her cheek, causing her mouth to open. With his other hand, he fed her the piece of chocolate. His eyes gazed intensely at her.
"This is really good chocolate!" Dawn exclaimed. She noticed the look Kylo was giving her.
"What is it?" she wondered, as he took the bouquet from her hands, and placed it on the nightstand.
"You have a little smudge of chocolate on your mouth," Kylo replied in a husky voice. It was a lie. It was time to take what he wanted.
"Okay..." Dawn managed to say before Kylo leaned and kissed her. He pulled her close and went to deepen this kiss, when he felt something hit his head.
"Mattie!" Dawn yelled, as she broke Kylo's embrace. He was smacking Kylo on the head with the box the chocolates had been in. She grabbed him and set him down on the nightstand.
"He wasn't hurting me," Dawn patiently explained, still shocked that Kylo kissed her. Mattie tilted his head, and decided to pucker his lips. She could not help giggling when he did this.
"Ok, Mattie," Dawn told him, before giving him a kiss on his little head. Mattie had a big grin on his face. He extended his hand, and the flower he was playing with floated to him.
As the child pulled off the petals, Kylo said to Dawn,
"You make him happy, after the loss of his father."
"I can relate to him," Dawn admitted.
"He blames himself for his father's death."
She noticed that Mattie was not playing with the rose.
"You're playing hide and seek?" Kylo wondered, as he removed his helmet. Mattie was curled up in a ball. He looked up at Dawn, tears streaming down his face.
"No," she somberly stated, as she rose from the bed. She scooped Mattie in her arms and explained,
"He is sad, because he does blame himself."
It broke Dawn's heart to hear Mattie cry. Kylo gazed at her in amazement. She was terrified, yet she pushed her fear to the side to comfort the child!
"I am going to bathe you and put you to bed," she whispered to Mattie once he calmed down. She grabbed a couple of towels and headed into the bathroom.
Dawn pondered all that had happened as she bathed Mattie. She was scared.
"I know what I need to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it," she muttered. Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard the splashing of water.
"No splashing," Dawn lectured Mattie. He looked up at her, with innocent eyes. Then he splashed the water again.
"Bath time is over," she stated, as she grabbed Mattie and pulled him out of the tub. She wrapped him in a towel. His little hand pointed to the toilet.
"You need to use the bathroom?"
Mattie nodded his head.
"Do you have to pee or poop?"
Dawn realized the answer when he grunted.
"Great, it's poop. Ok, Mattie."
She brought him to the toilet. Since he would have fallen in, Dawn held Mattie as his did his business. He cooed happily after he was done.
"Wipe yourself, Mattie," she told him. He obeyed, and Dawn checked to make sure he cleaned himself properly.
"Very good. Let's go wash our hands and head to bed."
After washing their hands, Dawn put Mattie back into his pants. She went to cover him with his robe, but he shook his head.
"Mattie, you are going to be cold," she told him, as she carried him out of the bathroom. He pointed towards the bed.
"You need your..." Dawn began to say, before noticing a shirtless Kylo lying on the bed. Mattie raised his ears in curiosity.
"Come," Kylo stated, extending his hand out to Dawn. She did not move.
"Unfreeze her," he commanded Mattie.
"He didn't...I can't...," she stammered.
Kylo realized that Dawn was frightened.
"Don't be afraid, I feel it, too," he vowed. She still refused to move.
"Please," he added. He was pleased when she laid down on the bed. She placed Mattie in between them.
"While you were bathing Mattie, I meditated to find out how Mattie and I got here," Kylo said, drawing closer to Dawn and Mattie.
"Did you find out anything?" Dawn asked, as she caressed Mattie's head, to make him sleepy.
"Yes. This room has an opening to the World between Worlds. It opens up every four hours. Anything that is a plush toy will become alive when it occurs."
"That is how you and Mattie are real! Thank God I did not bring a dinosaur into the room!"
"The next opening is at midnight."
Dawn looked at the clock. It was 11:55. She sighed sadly and gazed at Mattie, who had fallen asleep. Tears welled up in her eyes. She knew Kylo was going to take Mattie to the galaxy far, far away. She had no way to stop him from doing so.
"I'm going to miss you!" Dawn thought to herself before she started sobbing.
Kylo sensed her heartbreak, and remembered a time when he felt that pain.
"What have I done?" he had thought to himself, after he stabbed his father with his lightsaber. Even Chewbaaca's bowcaster hurt less than killing his own father.
"It's not fair!" Kylo read Dawn's thought. "The only chance I have to be a mother is being taken away from me!"
"Please, Kylo! Don't hurt him!" Dawn desperately moaned.
He gazed at her and came to a realization.
"I have compassion for her," he told himself.
Dawn was surprised when Kylo wiped her tears away. He knew what he had to do, to get what he wanted. He waved his hand, and Dawn's eyes closed.
"I have what I need," he whispered, gazing at Dawn and Mattie.
It was an hour later when Dawn stirred from her sleep. At first, she thought she was dreaming. But when her eyes fully opened, she saw Mattie tilt his head and smile.
"Mattie!" she exclaimed happily, as she sat up and hugged him tightly. He squirmed as she held him. He was finally able to slip out of her arms.
"Aren't you happy to see me?' Dawn exclaimed. He nodded his head, then held his hand to his neck and wheezed.
"You couldn't breathe. I'm sorry, Mattie."
Dawn gently patted his head, and the child cooed happily. She looked around and noticed their surroundings were different.
"Where are we?" she wondered. The hairs on her arms stood when she heard Kylo say,
"You are in my bedroom, on the Steadfast."
She turned to face Kylo, who was still shirtless. She blushed as he sat next to her on the bed. His gaze was intense on her.
"You brought me back, along with Mattie. Why?" Dawn questioned him.
"Because I wanted to," Kylo replied. He saw her bow her head.
"What is going to happen to us?"
He placed his hand underneath Dawn's chin, and tilted it up, so that their eyes met.
"You and Mattie will stay with me," Kylo explained. "I will show him the way to the Force, and you, his mother, will take care of him."
Dawn raised her eyebrow in disbelief. She knew there had to be a price to pay. He knew her thought and added,
"In turn, you will reign by my side, as my lover and the mother to my children."
Dawn's heart raced. She couldn't do what he asked of her. Frightened, she bolted from the bed and locked herself in the bathroom.
"What did I say to make her upset?" Kylo asked Mattie. He knew Dawn would be willing to submit to him in order to stay with Mattie. Plus, he felt her desire for him, and thought she wanted to be with him.
Kylo saw Mattie point to the bathroom, then to his stomach. He crossed his arms in a X shape, before sighing sadly.
"She's not able to have children," Kylo realized. Now he understood why Dawn cared for the child so deeply.
"I will make a deal with you," Kylo addressed Mattie. "If you can heal Dawn, so that she can get pregnant, I won't turn you to the Dark side until after she gives birth."
Mattie lifted his ears in shock. He glanced at the bathroom, where Dawn was weeping. He faced Kylo and slowly nodded his head.
The door opened, and Dawn stepped out. With trepidation, she drew to the bedside and weakly said to Kylo,
"I can't give you what you want."
"Dawn, you already have," he responded, rising from the bed. He wrapped his arms around her waist and passionately kissed her.
"We shouldn't... not with Mattie here. He's scared."
But Kylo knew it was Dawn that was frightened. She did not want to tell him she couldn't have children, because she was afraid of his reaction. She feared he would take Mattie away from her.
"I will have the adjacent room converted to a nursery tomorrow. He can sleep with us tonight," Kylo promised her.
"Thank you," Dawn whispered, bowing her head in appreciation. She thought to herself,
"Maybe there is still good in him."
"Come, let's go to bed," Kylo stated. All three laid down, with Mattie in the middle.
Although she was scared, Dawn knew she had to stay and be Kylo's lover. She needed to do this, in order for her and Mattie to not be separated.
"Go to sleep," Kylo whispered, as he caressed Dawn's arm. Her eyes closed, and she quickly fell asleep.
He waited a few minutes before telling Mattie,
"Lay your hand on her stomach, and use the Force to heal her."
Mattie looked unsure. Kylo raised his eyebrow.
"I told you, you are powerful in the Force. Go ahead, touch her, heal her."
Mattie nodded, and turned to face Dawn. He scooted closer to her, and laid his hand on her belly. The Force flowed out of him as he touched Dawn to heal her. When he finished, he closed his eyes in exhaustion.
Although they didn't see it, Kylo smiled as he covered himself, Mattie and Dawn with the sheet. The one thing he felt he was denied all his life he finally had; a family.
"It's just us now," he softly stated. Kylo leaned over and kissed Dawn on the forehead. He gazed at Mattie, stroked the child's head, closed his eyes and fell asleep.
