Chapter 3: Welcome Home, Barney

"My house will be like a castle too, once Juan moves back to his old room." Carlos sighed.

"I get the feeling, kid. I miss my room-but, until Saturday, I have to stay with Marcie." Peppermint Patty sighed. "I miss my comfy bed."

"And I miss not being able to cuddle my blanket in my room." Linus said.

"Carlos, wouldn't it be neat if your room was as big as this classroom?" Shawn asked. "There'd be MUCH more room for you and Juan."

"That's very true." Marcie yawned again. "Sorry, guys."

"We could pretend the classroom is a lot of rooms." Kathy suggested. "Let's play 'house'."

"Sure. And everyone can get into teams to make their favorite room." Carlos smiled.

"I can't wait to see how it will look!" Barney squealed.

"We're going to surprise you, Barney. So wait outside until we're all ready." Tosha suggested.

"Okay." Barney replied as Snoopy gave a thumbs up.

"And no peeking, Big Purple!" Peppermint Patty cried out.

"I promise, I won't." Barney smiled. "I promise!"

"Let's get started!" Linus exclaimed as they all huddled up to discuss which rooms they'd make. "Let's do this!"

After a while, Charlie Brown stuck his head out the door. "Okay, Barney. We're ready."

"Okay!" Barney smiled as Snoopy giggled.

Barney:

Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

Hello, hello,

Hello and how are you?

Barney:

I'm fine, I'm fine

And I hope that you are too

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

Hello, hello

Hello and how are you?

I'm fine, I'm fine

And I hope that you are too

"I'm home!" Barney exclaimed as everyone giggled.

"Welcome to our house, Barney." Carlos smiled.

"Yes, welcome." Tosha added.

"May I take your hat, sir?" Charlie Brown asked as the kids giggled.

"We each made our favorite rooms to show you." Kathy explained.

"We sure…we sure did." Marcie replied.

"I love what you've all done with the place." Barney praised.

"Joe Builder." Linus said as Snoopy smiled.

"Me oh my. Something sure smells good." Barney realized.

"It sure does." Linus smiled.

"You're right." Carlos smiled.

"Yummy." Sally licked her lips. "I'm starving."

"Me too." Lucy smiled.

"But where's it coming from?" asked Tosha.

"I guess we'll just have to follow our noses." Barney said as Snoopy led the way. "I wonder what's cooking."

"Spaghetti?" asked Tosha.

"No…" they debunked.

"Macaroni and cheese?" asked Carlos and Linus.

"No…" they debunked.

"Pizza?" asked Kathy and Sally in unison.

"No…"

"Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?" Marcie asked.

"On a stove?" Lucy asked.

"Dog food?" Charlie Brown asked.

"Now we're REALLY not getting anywhere." Linus realized.

"Let's ask Shawn." Lucy suggested. "Hey Four Eyes."

"Welcome to my kitchen." Shawn greeted as he and Franklin stirred a huge pot.

"This is my favorite room in the house." Franklin explained. "Because I love to help my mom and dad cook."

"Me too." Shawn smiled as Peppermint Patty ran towards the pot.

"Speaking of meals, boys, what are you cooking that smells so delicious?" asked Barney. Peppermint Patty pretended to taste test whatever it was.

"Mmm…soup." Peppermint Patty said in delight. "Needs some salt though, boys."

"It's my very best alphabet soup." Shawn chuckled.

"All I see are letters." Sally complained.

"Would you like to help make it?" asked Shawn.

"SURE!" everyone exclaimed.

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

Oh we're all right here, making alphabet soup

And we know we're gonna have some fun

'Cause we're gonna take letters of the alphabet

And put 'em in one by one

Shawn and Franklin:

Here's an E

(E!)

Kathy and Sally:

And a C

(C!)

Carlos and Schroeder:

And a W, X, Y and Z

(W, X, Y and Z!)

Tosha:

And a P,

Marcie:

And a Q,

Tosha and Marcie:

And a great big U

(P, Q, great big U!)

Barney and Charlie Brown:

Now, don't forget the B

(B!)

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

Now we mix it all up

And we serve it all around

And we'll serve it with a great big scoop

And mine'll taste better if I should get a letter

From my bowl of alphabet soup

Shawn and Franklin:

There's an E

(E!)

Kathy and Sally:

And a C

(C!)

Carlos and Schroeder:

And a W, X, Y and Z

(W, X, Y and Z!)

Tosha:

And a P,

Marcie:

And a Q,

Tosha and Marcie:

And a great big U

(P, Q, great big U!)

Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

And here comes Barney's B

(B!)

"OKAY EVERYONE! SOUP'S ON!" Lucy exclaimed as everyone got a bowl and ate it at 'the dinning room'.

"This is good." Charlie Brown smiled as they all 'ate' the soup.

"That alphabet soup was good, Shawn and Franklin." Schroeder smiled.

"5 stars." Lucy praised.

"Thanks, you guys." Franklin said as he and Shawn 'washed' the dishes with…

"MY BLANKET!" Linus exclaimed.

"Here you go." Shawn called out, tossing his friend the blanket.

"Thanks." Linus smiled.

Linus:

It's foolish

I know it

I'll try to

Outgrow it

But meanwhile

It's my blanket

Sally:

And me

Lucy:

And me

Schroeder:

And me

Charlie Brown:

And me

Linus:

And me

"Okay, everyone, let's go to my favorite room." Heather smiled.

"Are we going to the living room?" Sally asked.

"No."

"The laundry room?" Tosha asked.

"No."

"The attic?" Peppermint Patty asked.

"No." Heather giggled. "It's right here."

"I see." Barney chuckled.

"My favorite room: the bathroom." Heather explained. Everyone was confused.

"The bathroom?" Shawn and Linus asked in unison. "Why?"

"Bubbles." Heather replied. Sally and Kathy giggled, knowing why.

"Bubbles?" asked Charlie Brown.

"Sure. I love to take bubble baths in the tub. And, of course, I also like to brush." Heather explained.

"You mean you like to brush your back in the bubble bath." Tosha realized.

"Well, I like to do that, but I was talking about brushing my hair AND brushing my teeth." Heather giggled.

"Well, we all just ate, so that means we should…" Barney began.

"Brush our teeth!" the kids replied.

"Right!" Barney exclaimed.

Kathy, Heather and Sally:

Oh I'm brushing my teeth on the top.

It's so much fun I hate to stop.

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

But while I'm brushing my teeth

And having so much fun,

I never let the water run.

No, I never let the water run.

Carlos, Schroeder and Linus:

Oh, I'm brushing my teeth on the bottom

'Cause I wouldn't wanna say that I forgot 'em

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

But while I'm brushing my teeth

And having so much fun,

I never let the water run.

No, I never let the water run.

Tosha, Lucy and Peppermint Patty:

Oh, I'm brushing my teeth in back.

Gotta' get rid of all the plaque.

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

But while I'm brushing my teeth

And having so much fun,

I never let the water run.

No, I never let the water run.

Hmm, hmm, hmm hm-hm hmm, hmm

Hmm, hmm, hmm hm-hm hmmmm

I never let the water run.

No, I never let the water run.

"There. My teeth feel REALLY clean now." Heather said.

Tosha smiled as she whispered an idea to Snoopy. He giggled. She then whispered the same idea to Barney. "Yes, Tosha?" asked Barney.

"Barney, pretend you hear two babies crying." Tosha whispered to him.

"Okay. I think I hear a baby crying." Barney explained as Snoopy raised his ear in wonder.

"Two babies, Barney." Tosha whispered back.

"Sorry. I mean, I think I can hear two babies crying." Barney blushed in embarrassment.

"What IS that awful noise?" Marcie asked, covering her ears.

"Oh, the twins are tired. It's time for their nap." Tosha explained. "Let's go to my favorite room-the nursery."

"Oh boy! We get to go visit the babies." Barney smiled as they all headed to a pretend nursery with two baby dolls in a cradle.

"The nursery is my favorite room because it's fun to help my mom take care of my baby brothers." Tosha explained, rocking the cradle. "I think we should rock the babies to sleep now."

"We can use my blanket." Linus smiled as he, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Tosha, Snoopy, Woodstock and Barney were left with the baby dolls.

"Hello." Barney smiled, holding a baby doll. Tosha smiled as she sat in a red rocking chair. "He's so sweet."

"Linus, Marcie, Peppermint Patty, do you want to help sing the babies a lullaby?" asked Tosha.

"Okay." Peppermint Patty smiled quietly.

"Okay, Tosha." Marcie yawned.

"Sure." Linus agreed.

Barney, Tosha, Linus, Peppermint Patty and Marcie:

Rock-a-bye baby

On the tree top.

When the wind blows,

The cradle will rock.

When the bough breaks

The cradle will fall

And down will come baby

Barney, Tosha, Linus and Peppermint Patty:

Cradle and all.

"Did it work?" Heather asked from the 'kitchen'. "Because we all can hear snoring."

"I think they're asleep, Barney." Tosha whispered to Barney. "Thanks for your help, guys."

"No problem." Linus smiled.

"We put them to sleep. Isn't that cute, Marcie?" asked Peppermint Patty. "Marcie?"

"Shh. She's sleeping." Linus shushed. He placed his blanket on Marcie and gently removed her glasses. Peppermint Patty laughed as Marcie snored softly. "The lullaby definitely worked."

The tomboy giggled to herself as she whispered "Nighty-night, sweet dreams."

"Come on, let's let the babies sleep. All three of them." Linus suggested as he, Peppermint Patty, Tosha, Snoopy, Woodstock and Barney tiptoed out of the 'nursery'. "It worked. They're asleep."

"Great. Because now it's time for me to show you guys my favorite room in the house." Schroeder smiled.

"What is it?" Linus asked.

"Oh. Look at all these socks hanging up to dry." Barney noticed. "Why this must be the laundry room."

"Sweet!" Peppermint Patty smiled.

"With two babies, we have LOTS of dirty clothes." Tosha giggled.

"Sometimes, I help with the laundry. It can be kind of fun." Linus commented. "UNLESS my blanket needs washing."

"I play basketball on laundry day." Tosha said.

"Basketball in the laundry room?" Carlos and Charlie Brown questioned.

"Sure. I toss my dirty socks in the washing machine." Tosha explained, grabbing a pair of socks. "Tosha gets the ball. She shoots. She scores."

"YAY!" the others cheered loudly.

"Shh!" Peppermint Patty shushed. "Remember to use your indoor voices, troop, or you'll wake the babies and Marcie."

"Hey Kathy, let's go outside." Linus suggested.

"Okay." Kathy smiled as she, Carlos, Lucy, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Franklin headed outside.

"Carlos, Kathy, Linus, Lucy, Franklin, Charlie Brown, Snoopy. Where're you all going?" asked Peppermint Patty.

"Out here, where we can use our outdoor voices." Carlos shushed.

"We DON'T wanna wake the babies." Charlie Brown said.

"I once woke Linus up just to tell him it's bedtime." Lucy said. "I don't want to be crabby and wake two babies up."

"Good idea." Schroeder smiled, blushing a little.

Barney:

When we talk, we've got two choices.

We can use either one of our two voices.

My indoor voice is kind of quiet

Like a kitty who's just meowed.

Shawn, Tosha, Peppermint Patty, Schroeder, Sally and Heather:

Meow

Carlos, Kathy, Linus, Lucy, Franklin and Charlie Brown:

And my outdoor voice is fun to try it

'Cause it's big and strong and loud.

Barney:

When we're in school or riding in a car,

It's our indoor voice we use.

We can still have fun, no matter where we are

With a quiet voice we choose.

Barney, Shawn, Tosha, Peppermint Patty, Schroeder, Sally and Heather:

And when we use both voices every day,

It's easy to decide which one.

We use our indoor here and our outdoor there.

And we know they both are fun.

Carlos, Kathy, Linus, Lucy, Franklin and Charlie Brown:

When we're outside just playing around,

It's our outdoor voice we use.

We can be real loud, tall and proud

Like a rooster when he cock-a-doodle-doos.

Barney, Barney's friends and Peanuts Gang:

And when we use both voices every day,

It's easy to decide which one.

We use our indoor there and our outdoor here.

And we know they both are fun.

We use our indoor there and our outdoor here.

And we know they both are fun.
