Chapter 10: Harvesting Monsters and Exploring the Upper Dungeon
A.N.: Ok, it is clear by now that I am unlikely to ever actually finish this story. I have moved on to writing five or six other stories instead but every time I come back to this one I just can't summon any enthusiasm. So this chapter will instead be a summarized version of what I originally planned for the story by copy/pasting my background file which had a summary outline, character information, and all that good stuff. If anyone wants to use this material for their own try at completing a similar story feel free, although please give some acknowledgement for my efforts and let me know so I can read and enjoy it myself. I also created a short Bad End for this story showing Ais Wallenstein's death. A number of my new planned stories use this character and the idea of the ROB sending the soul on to new lives, so the Bad End of this story is the true end as far as those new characters are concerned.
Summarized Chapter 10:
As the title suggests I planned this to be about Ais joining the Hermes famillia at Lolog lake and both showing off the specialized gear Eleanor gave her and helping out with harvesting all the large monsters that were taking up space in her inventory. If possible, I intended to make it a really gory detailed scene of Ais needing to crawl inside the bodies and cut her way to all the valuable bits. This would lead to Ais being covered in blood and both horrifying and impressing the adults with how dedicated Ais was to her chosen role. I even planned to research the Monsters and craft-able drops from a handy list on the website I used and include Ais listing them out to help decide what to prioritize in terms of harvesting.
After cleaning up and returning to Orario like planned, then I would write out Ais joining the Night Adventurer party and basically putting all her theoretical practice to the test. Ais would swiftly realize that one month of dedicated training is not nearly enough to really make much difference in killing monsters, but at least be satisfied that even just by acting as a glorified supporter who helps kill the weaker monsters and harvest and store all the valuable drops she was progressing even if at a much slower rate than she would like. Again if possible I would have written detailed scenes of Ais being too weak to kill a wall shadow or the tougher monsters, too slow and inaccurate to hit the faster monsters with arrows and so on. But still excelling at carrying magic stones due to her inventory so becoming a valued supporter, and continuing to train her accuracy and other skills when the Night Adventuring Party took time off to relax from dungeon grinding.
So, copy pasted strait from my background file is an extreme summary of what I planned for the rest of the story.
I planned to finally have a few actual time skips to get things moving after this chapter.
But my plan was to describe a few scenes of the next year of Ais life, then write a more detailed scene of the fight that causes Ais to level up after one year on and off with the Hermes famillia.
Although I have no idea of what that fight would actually be.
Ais nickname/alias chosen at lvl 2, 1 year after joining the Hermes familia is Warrior Princess, due to the amount of weapons she is learning to wield and her obsession with either training or entering the dungeon, with the princess moniker due to her beauty, somewhat oblivious or air-head actions regarding social situations and because Hermes did not have enough status to fight it.
When in Orario Ais often spent 16 hours a day/night in the dungeon, traveling as a supporter for the Daytime main party lead by Asfl at first, then as a clean-up attacker. And becoming a versatile attacker with the Night Adventurer Party and part-time supporter the rest of the time.
As a lvl 2 with high stats Ais is considered competent enough to join the expeditions to the middle and lower floors. Ais is relegated to a glorified supporter again whenever the famillia goes to the lower floors, so gets little excella there, but manages to level up to 3 after helping fight the Goliath for the 6th time, this time almost solo after another year, making Ais 7, almost 8 years old, the record holder for youngest to lvl up to 3 as she was a record holder for youngest to level up to 2, though not the fastest.
Ais also joins in actual Monster hunts with Eleanor, Elaine, and the Monster hunters contracted to the Hermes familia and gets a percentage of the monster parts harvested to make weapons and armor for herself.
Long time skip.
Ais requests a transfer to the Hera famillia when she gets word that they plan to start their 3 great quests, after 2 years and 9 months with the Hermes famillia.
Time skip. Planning a great expedition and going on it takes an entire year apparently.
The Hera/Zeus famillias return wounded but successfully manage to defeat Behmoth. Although Ais does not level up, she gets much closer to doing so.
Ais reaches Lvl 4 by helping Eleanor, Elaine and a group of monster hunters hunt down and kill an Elder Dragon. She is now 10 years old.
Next the allied famillias create their plans to hunt the Leviathan that lurks in Lolog lake and the ocean and use the corpse to seal the dungeon entrance beneath Lolog lake. They gain some aid from the Hermes, Hephestes, Loki, Freya, and Dian Cietcht familia since sealing that entrance and taking out the Leviathan that raided along the coast line will help all of Orario a great deal.
Ais knows that after they succeed they will plan a third great quest to defeat the One-eyed Black Dragon lurking in burning Ryumilua forest and hopes to level up to 5 by being part of the quest to defeat the Leviathan. So that she will be allowed to actually participate in that battle vs the black dragon. Thankfully the Hera/Zeus famillia takes their time planning and only defeat the Leviathan 1 year later. So Ais is 11 years old when she levels up to 5 after that fight.
Sometime after reaching lvl 5 Ais requests an expedition of the Hera/Zeus famillia to Asteria to potentially recruit members of the guild of Monster hunting, and compare/collect monster parts for upgraded equipment instead of yet another expedition to a lower floor. She also hopes to gather materials, cheap food, and seeds of hardy plants to start upgrading Riverna, the town on the safe zone in the dungeon into a self-sustaining town that can resupply adventurers with food and make minor equipment repairs, with lockers to store excess materials so adventures are less limited by what they can carry.
Ais gets a great start on upgrading Riverna but leaves the rest up to others when the Hera/Zeus famillia start planning their third great quest in earnest. Her efforts did strengthen and maintain the temporary alliance vs the Leviathan from the Freya, Loki, and Hermes famillia with the Hera/Zeus famillias, and she manages to help Riverna become self-sustaining with a small amount of ability to help adventurer's restock their packs.
1 year after returning from defeating Leviathan, or when Ais is 12 years old and some months, with her stats just reaching B rank in Strength, A rank in Endurance and S rank for Magic, Agility, Dexterity the battle vs the Black Elder Dragon is planned out.
Then the great battle against the One-eyed Black Elder dragon starts.
The black Elder dragon was partially buried under the layers of ash in the Ryumilla forest so when it wakes up everyone finds out it is 100 meters long and at least 60 meters wide, 80 meters including the tips of the bigger than the size of an entire football field.
The battle is the hardest ever fought, with the Zeus, Hera, and high level adventurers of Hermes, Loki, and Freya famillias all temporarily allied with Monster Hunters as well. Mostly those who joined the Hera/Zeus famillia or had a contract with the Hermes famillia.
When they arrive in the forest Ais can hear her mother's lullaby on the wind, helping keep the Black Dragon asleep as long as it is not disturbed. She realizes her mother has spent all these years trying to protect everyone by making the Black dragon sleep.
When the black dragon wakes and starts fighting as it sees Ais it targets her especially, reminded of the one that has kept it imprisoned in slumber so long even if it can no longer see a face or body with the constant voice.
The Zeus/Hera famillia take advantage of the dragon's obsession to try to injure the dragon while Ais wildly evades attacks. Even the greatest attacks seem mere pinpricks against the tough hide and sheer size of the dragon.
They still almost lose, with a great many killed or severely injured. The Freya famillia calls for a fighting retreat when all the high level adventurer's of Hera and Zeus famillia are killed.
Ais flies into a suicidal/ berserk rage, takes a tremendous risk by flying into the mouth of the beast right after it has breathed fire, and delivers the final blow that finally kills it by using all her magic to tear up the dragon's insides with an overpowered wind attack as she is diving into the dragon's throat. She believed that Eleanor and Elaine as well as all most of the Hera famllia were killed. It turns out that Elaine survives, barely due to her falna helping but Eleanor is truly dead. All high ranking members of the Zeus and Hera famillias are dead, but some of the lower ranking members survived due to hanging in the back and fleeing immediately after the Freya family called for a retreat.
Unable to dig herself out, Ais takes a mind potion while still in the dragon's body, accidentally getting some of its blood as well, then puts the corpse into her inventory. She stays awake only long enough to speak a few words to the few who had also remained behind and try to speak to her mother.
Before the wounded return to Orario Ais quietly thanks her mother for keeping the dragon asleep, and promises to return sometime in the future.
I planned on Ais gaining some sort of dragon themed skill due to her feat and the dragon blood she swallowed.
After the battle the Loki and Freya famillias gain the aid of the Ganesha and Astraea families and guild of adventurers to have the remains of Hera and Zeus famillias either disbanded and absorbed into other famillias or banished from Orario due to the amount of deaths and destruction th last of the great quests caused and chaos that a weakened familia would cause if they still tried to rule.
Since as a brand new lvl 6 Ais is the highest ranking member of the Hera famillia left and has no idea how to or desire to lead no one is left to argue with the Loki or Freya families.
Ais tries to return to the Hermes famillia but is ordered to join the Loki familia instead.
Elaine does agree to join the Hermes familia since they saved her life and she feels without purpose with Eleanor no longer alive, losing a leg also means she either needs a good prosthetic or to retire from monster hunting altogether.
Ais reluctantly agrees to join the Loki famillia as long as Loki agrees to a contract similar to what Hermes uses, and lets Ais have the freedom to leave Orario to hunt large and small monsters of the surface as well as joining the Hermes famillia temporarily when they pay a fee to the Loki familia. And she gets an iron clad agreement that if she wants to transfer back to the Hermes famillia after a year she can.
Ais feels aimless and without purpose. She dedicated over 7 years of her life to killing the One-eyed Black Dragon and somehow succeeded. She might have had a vague childish desire to reunite with her mother's spirit and take it easy for a while, then explore this vast world while hunting and killing other monsters, but it is hard to summon up any desire to actually do that. She won, but lost so much during the process. Physically Ais only lost her left eye, which seems like a small price to pay. But so many lost their lives. Ais made friends in the Hera family who are all dead now. Eleanor is dead. Many other monster hunters are dead. It seems easier to just go with the flow for a bit. Ais has no bonds with and somewhat dislikes the Loki famillia, but that might change with time. According to the fuzzy Feline-lover memories the 'cannon' Ais Wallenstein was a valued member of the Loki famillia when Bell Cranel arrived in Orario and somewhat content with her life. Although in that story the Hera/Zeus famillias failed entirely and the Black Dragon still lived, so that Ais was still obsessed with killing it. Feline-lover wanted to try to make an actual harem revolving around Bell Cranel, but was more interested in the other female members than the main character himself. Bell Cranel would just be the token male, a sperm donor if anyone wanted children. Although she is still not interested in the idea of joining some sort of weird harem to a boy she won't even meet for years, surely Ais can just relax a while in the Loki famillia until the year is up. Then she can re-join the Hermes famillia and actually get started on exploring the world like she wanted to. And getting to know the Loki famillia won't hurt, she needs to work with them for a year after all.
My time-line is wonky I know, but I tried to make Ais into a super character and fit far to much detail in the early chapters, then lost interest and went the opposite route by just summarizing entire years to make things reach the interesting bits. In any reasonable story a 12 year old girl would not be allowed near so many dangerous monsters or be capable of killing an Elder Dragon. My first few chapters even acknowledged that through Ais uncharitable 'fights' to be taken seriously by Eleanor, a reasonable adult. But I researched the original time-line and although my OC Ais Wallenstein was inserted far earlier than cannon Ais, it was still not early enough for her to actually be a reasonable age when the Zeus/Hera famillias go on their great expeditions, so I just gave up and let Ais be 12 when it happens.
Really Bad End.
Ais is 13. The year with the Loki familia is almost up. They are delving deep into the dungeon using Ais as a mix of supporter, ranged attacker, mage, and occasional fast rouge. She is pleased that she is so valued, but still plans on leaving the Loki familia after this expedition. The few friends she made are not nearly as close to her as she became with Shippo, Kurama, Remus, Sirius and the night dungeon party. Plus Elaine is with the Hermes famillia too, and Ais really misses Elaine.
During a boss battle on the 40th floor for some reason the Loki familia decide to temporarily abandon Aria, even though that makes no logical sense to her at all.
What the fuck? What is happening? Wooah! That was close. Fine then. I'll kill this boss monster all by myself somehow. Maybe I'll reach level 7 with this. That will show them! Dammed Loki familia!
Ahhhhh! Fuck!. Irregular Dragon monsters from floor 50! Really? What the fucking fuck! That is impossible! Noooo! Ahhh! My arm! One of them just bit off my arm! I'm going to die! I don't want to die! Noooooooooo! Fucking dragons!
Crunch. Crunch.
Ais died. The irregular dragon monsters ate her body. She died confused, terrified, and really angry.
After some time passed Ais 'woke up' in a grayish, foggy place with no real features that was really familiar for some reason. After checking that somehow she had her missing limbs again, even her left eye which had been gone for over a year Ais speaks her thoughts.
"What. The. Fuck. Just. Happened? Where the fuck is this fucking place. What the fuck is going on!?"
A screen pops up in mid-air with words typed out on it.
Welcome back! You died of course. But now you can live again on another world! Remember Feline-lover? I'm ROB and I have chosen your soul to entertain me. So in case you were wondering, you do have the same soul as Feline-lover, but are vastly different and unique from her due to her choices planning out your life, my modifications, and just living your life. The life you just completed was not nearly as interesting as I hoped it would be, but your death was really entertaining! So I'll give you a few free points to spend on your choices in the next world, but I'll choose the world. What will you chose? Keep in mind the more interesting and entertaining you are in your next life the more choice you'll get in the life after that. So don't go for something that will lead you to a boring, safe, life.
Do not try to get a Happily Ever After.
I will not be entertained by such bland endings. I just knew you were heading in that direction from your actions after killing that dragon you were obsessed with. So I nudged things along to make them more interesting, but you kept not getting the hint and just taking things slowly, safely, and being boring!
I don't know how you made killing monsters boring, but you managed it! Be more interesting and entertaining this time or I'll make you really suffer for my entertainment.
Torture, rape, and gory violence are usually interesting, so if you don't provide entertainment I'll nudge things so such things occur.
Conflict is interesting in general, so if you don't find an something to fight I'll nudge things along to bring a powerful conflict your way.
Porn is interesting, so if you don't willingly find sexual partners once you pass puberty I'll nudge some your way, who may not take no for an answer or be very persistent in getting a token agreement.
Sarcastic or black jokes while there is violence are funny, so if you are already fighting or watching violence and make a joke that will be worth bonus points.
Repetitively killing beasts too weak to really fight back is not as interesting the 30th time, much less the 1000th or however many monsters you ended up killing.
Still, for the entertaining death and some mildly interesting and entertaining actions during that life I'll give you, say 30 points that can be used to help your new life.

Ais stares at those words for a while, processing them. She then feels a surge of anger at the implication that ROBS was responsible, and nudged things along to lead to her miserable, painful death.
Ais Wallenstein expresses her anger that the ROBS; Random Omnipotent Bastard Sadist rather than the previously called Being thinks of those points as a reward, by cussing him out and then ranting at the air in the limbo..
"You are a Random, Omnipotent, Bastard , and Sadist! Fucking sadistic bastard son of a bitch! Your father was probably a monstrous, ugly and evil goblin skunk god who raped an earth, wolf, and magical Goddess. If you have a physical body somewhere you probably smell like rotting sewage, rotten eggs, and skunk spray mixed with wet dog. Clearly you inherited your personality from your father and your ridiculous over powered reality manipulating powers from your mother. Entertaining! Entertaining! You sadistic fucker!
I felt so much anxiety in my early life due to the abrupt 'merging' of Feline-lover and Ais Wallenstein. The 'tragic background' made me feel so much angst and obsession I barely made any time for happiness at all due to my near-impossible goal! Then I fucking died only a few months after achieving that goal. The ludicrous coincidences and consequences that followed after I achieved my initial goal made my life miserable. Not that I wanted to 'meet Bell Cranel and become part of his harem' like Feline-lover originally planned, but I could have at least explored the world, actually found a relaxing hobby not related to training, killed lots more monsters, and maybe found some woman I actually liked and settled down to adopt a kid when I was twenty to thirty or so if I turned out to be bisexual, or lesbian like Feline-lover thought she might be.
But no! I lost my left eye! My few friends in the Hera famillia were killed. Eleanor also died. Elaine lost her leg and barely survived. Fucking Loki and Freya somehow refused to let me re-join the Hermes famillia. I was 'convinced' to join the Loki famillia instead somehow.
I was practically chained to Orario as a fucking 'supporting assistant to the captain' of the Loki famillia. Then I painfully died, abandoned by the very famillia who 'convinced' me I was so very important to the stability of Orario I could not choose what to do with my own fucking life. Being eaten by a 'random' group of irregular dragon monsters joining a monstrous rex fight in the dungeon was not very random at all! I bet you influenced events to make all those bad things happen, because you thought me living a happy life would be boring. Fuck you ROBS! Being sent to a new world, to have yet another existential crisis due to 'memories' unlocking in a 5 year old toddler personality from a likely 'tragically orphaned girl' or whatever twisted 'back-story' you come up with is not a reward!
And neither is losing everything that makes up my current personality, sacrificing myself for some potential future that you will likely arrange to have a screwed up, miserable life in spite of those bonus skills anyway! I choose NEITHER, give me some better choices if you want to reward me! Or let me go on to whatever natural afterlife exists without your interference!"
My new end of the story will be that, again if I had actually finished the story the way I wanted the limbo interaction would have been much less antagonistic and Ais would have been given far more points and choices in the next life.

For anyone curious about most of Ais planned skills and abilities if I had continued the story here is what I was using as a reference to them. After that is a character sheet I created for the Hermes famillia and other relevant famillias.
Ais Wallenstein's Skills & Abilities
After receiving her falna from Hermes Ais actually has 2 skills,1 magic spell, and a development ability right away.
Inventory lvl 1- a skill/ ability that creates a sub-dimension pocket with 150 blank boxes that can be filled with stack-able items. Small items that are 1 ft wide and tall or less and can be stacked up to 100, with 90 spots for small items. Medium objects such as sleeping bags or stuff bigger than 1 ft but smaller than 6.5 ft can be stacked up to 50, there are 50 spots for medium objects. Large objects can only be stacked up to 10. There are 10 spots available for large items. There is also a permanent slot for Valis, low-grade magic stones, and medium grade magical stones that are unlimited stack-able for Valis, and up to 5000 for low grade magic stone, 1000 for medium.
Lvl 2-7 are; upgrades to the space the inventory has, with a slight change in proportions to allow more space for medium and large spots rather than small items, greater limits for stacking, better organization of categories of items, and more assignable permanent unlimited stacking slots that Ais chooses to use for Health potions, Mind Potions, arrows, and throwing knives. The permanent slots also become fast slots, easy to access and retrieve with just a thought and gesture of 1 of her hands of grasping something. At lvl 2; There are now 80 spots for small items, There are now 65 spots for medium objects, 20 spots for large. At lvl 3 there are 80 spots for medium, 30 for large.
Avenger- a skill that is born from Ais hatred and desire for revenge on the Black Dragon, and general anger at monsters in general. It has an active trigger and increases the attacking power of whatever weapon she is wielding against a monster of any kind, but deals double or triple damage to any dragon type monsters, at the cost of damaging the weapon used.
Magic Spell- Ariel lvl 1- a wind element enchantment that can enhance the sharpness of any weapon, decrease the apparent weight of any armor, act a propulsion for Ais to move faster or act as a destructive shield of sorts for Ais, cutting apart most things that touch it, while generally increasing her speed.
Lvl 2-6 can increase the power, versatility, and control that Ais can use this magic. It is a short/no chant spell of "Ariel tempest" At some point Ais control would evolve enough that with a glider or cloak she could fly while maintaining this spell.
Dragon domination skill gained at lvl 6: Due to killing the One-eyed black dragon from the inside and swallowing some of its blood Ais can now dominate the will of weak dragons and make them act like pets for a short time. This is similar to the Ganesha taming skill, just temporary and limited to weak dragons.
Air-headed- a permanent curse/affliction that affects the mind of Ais, causing her to have lapses of judgment, get lost in thought at random, forget things temporarily, and become dense or oblivious to the emotions of herself or others on some occasions. It can be mostly negated with regular meditation, focusing and concentration exercises, established routines, and frequent reminders/explanations from people Ais cares about.
Development Ability
Resilient Body- you have a resilient body. While sleeping, wounds heal at a very fast rate, mind is refreshed at a very fast rate. Even a mere 4 hours sleep is enough to heal most minor wounds and completely refresh the mind.
When Ais levels up Resillient body can heal major wounds and refresh from mind down in 3 hours, also gains ability to sleep in timed naps when no major injuries apparent. Final lvl of resilient body has Ais able to heal & refresh her mind fast even when meditating rather than sleeping.
Upon reaching Lvl 2 Ais gains the development ability
Spirit Healing- which automatically begins regenerating Ais Mind upon use of any spell, at a faster rate than most mages. It also passively fights off the Airheaded curse/affliction to a great degree, though Ais still needs to meditate for at least 1 hour per day.
At lvl 2 Ais gains a sub-skill of Ariel Tempest.
Flight
Sub-skill of Ariel : when Ais' Ariel spell is directed to a specially designed glider mantle with extra material added to the arms and cape portion or a portable wearable glider Ais can fly/glide for as long as she can maintain the spell, with higher lvls decreasing costs and transforming the material to be more birdlike or wyvern-like. Aria modification is :Ariel Reach for the sky and help me fly!
At lvl 3 Ais chooses the developmental skill
Hunter- increases the abilities of an adventurer when facing a monster they have fought before, gained excella from. Gives increased excella even when monster is now weaker comparatively.
Upon reaching lvl 3:
Magic skill
Winds of healing/shielding: when Ais had been relegated to a glorified supporter during the expeditions to lower floors, she had taken it upon herself to watch her famillia members and provide the potions or vigor-wasps they needed while shielding them with a specialized shield-spire as an extra aspect of her supporting role. This spell developed from that. Ais can heal health or the mind of the targets with the sacrifice of a low grade magic stone and some of Ais mind. With the sacrifice of an actual potion upgrading the skill to elixir levels of healing or completely regenerating minds. It also creates a weak shield of wind while healing the target. It has a short chant "Gentle, warm winds heal (targets of spell, specify wounds or mind), Ariel!" The spell looks like sparkling/glowing dust motes heading to the targets and surrounding them-the disintegrated remains of the magic stone carried by Ais magic/mind.
Development Ability chosen at lvl 4:
Abnormal Resistance- can negate or at least resist status effects and abnormalities from monsters such as poison, paralysis, burns from fire attacks, ect. Also grants increased resistance to extreme temperatures.
All skills and previously chosen development abilities are upgraded slightly.
Magic Spell gained at lvl 4:
Blades of Wind: Ais can create sharp invisible blades made of concentrated wind. Aria is "O great winds of Ariel, create blades of wind to cut foes down and tear them apart."
Development Ability gained at lvl 5:
Weapon User- increases all of Ais abilities to wield and master her weapons such as swords, bows
daggers, knives, spears and even odd weapons such as scythes, kusigri-gama, hammers, or gunlances.
Lvl 5-7: All developmental abilities and leveling skills rise,
New Magic Skill: Tornado
New general skills: Stealth
New Development Abilities: Mage I-III
Fusion World Geography
Atsteria is Far South of Orario,
Guiding lands in Monster Hunter World are North and East above Alv Mountains, with Hoarfrost Reach even farther north of Dragon valley
Hoarfrost Reach is above Beor Mountains
The Ancient Forest is south of Burning Ryumilua forest.
The Plains/Savannah that are in the south-east somewhere of Orario are just north of the Coral Highlands.
The character sheet was originally on a table, with rows and columns. Fanfiction apparently does not support that so I fixed it as best I could in the document editor for fanfiction.
