It had been their first fight as a married couple. It had started with Donny saying one thing and Julia saying another and ended with her stalking off the the kitchen and him stalking off to their room. Julia did what she always did when she felt a strong emotion and didn't have her poetry notebook by her. She baked. As she mixed the sugar, butter, and flour together for a cake she already began to feel her anger melt away. She was still very iritated at Donny, but no longer felt the urge to scream in frustration. Just as she put the cake in the oven, Donny came down the stairs. She faced away from the door, pretending she was busy.
"Julia-"
"Not now Donny," she sighed, not quite ready to face him. Then, she heard the accordion. Julia turned around and there stood Donny playing the accordion he used to play at weddings with. The sight was so ridiculous she almost laughed.
"Pardon my brashness dear, seeing you standing there, dancings more customary for a soiree. Isnt the band sublime?" He walked toward her and raised his eyebrow. "And as it happens I'm just in the mood to do a two step do step out on the floor with me, I'm new here too you see might you be charmingly coerced?" Donny finished playing the song which definitely did not work quite as well on an accordion.
Julia laughed, all her anger melting away. "You're ridiculous."
He smiled and dipped his head at her at her. "Only around beautiful women." Donny paused. "Look, I'm sorry. I should have said that. "
"I'm sorry too. I overreacted."
"Truce?" He offered her his hand.
She took it. "Only if you promise never to play "First Steps" on the accordion again. There are a very limited number of songs that sound good on that thing."
He pretened to think about it for a moment. "Deal, but I won't stop trying to find the right song."
"Good luck," Julia grinned.
They sealed it with a kiss.
