Epilogue
One year later
Bella stared out of the window of the horrifyingly expensive hotel room. The Las Vegas strip was beautiful, especially at night. The hotel was even more beautiful. The robe she was wearing was soft against her bare skin.
Rosalie was out there somewhere, hunting. Not humans, as it was a lot harder to blend in with red eyes. She was trying to find animals to satiate her thirst. It was why a hunting trip that should maybe take an hour or two, was now approaching four hours.
They had dinner plans. A buffet in Caesar's Palace. One of, if not the most expensive, buffets in Las Vegas. Rosalie had looked it up online. It had great food and buffets were a good way for Rosalie to get away with not eating. It was win, win.
Bella checked the time and sighed. She would need to get ready soon. She wished she knew if Rosalie would return in time for dinner. She promised she would but it may not be possible depending on how far she had to travel to hunt.
Las Vegas was great but it wasn't the best for hunting animals. They shouldn't have come but Rosalie insisted. It was all part of the human experience.
After Isle Esme, they'd gone to New York, followed by Rome and then Alaska to visit Charlie and meet the Denali's. Then they met up with Alice and Jasper in Paris and now they were in Las Vegas. Bella had no idea where they were headed next, mostly because they didn't decide until a few days before. It was part of the fun according to Rosalie and Bella didn't see a reason to argue. It was kind of nice not knowing what to expect.
Since coming to Las Vegas there was one thing that had become very clear to Bella. She was ready. She was ready to turn and spend the rest of her life with Rosalie.
She wasn't sure when she decided she was ready. It wasn't a single event that made her realize she was ready. Bella's certain it started on Isle Esme. There were so many things to see and experience on the island. But she limited because she was human and needed to sleep. Not only that but the sunburn she got made things far more difficult. Granted, it would have been far worse if Alice hadn't texted her to warn her that she was getting too much sun.
They had spent a week inside and then Rosalie had made sure she was slathered in sunscreen before they went back out. Rosalie had enjoyed lathering on the sunscreen a little too much. The first day they never made it outside.
The sound of the hotel door opening pulled Bella from her thoughts. She turned and found Rosalie walking inside. Rosalie was across the room and holding Bella before the door could click shut.
"You took a while," Bella muttered. "I was worried you wouldn't return in time."
"I had to go further away," Rosalie said. "I remember why our family usually doesn't come here."
"We should leave," Bella said.
Rosalie shook her head. "I hunted enough. We can stay for another two weeks or so, if you want," Rosalie said.
Bella didn't respond. She was certain they wouldn't be staying for another two weeks so it didn't really matter. She enjoyed Vegas but wasn't sure they would find another two weeks worth of things to do, unless they stayed in bed all day.
"Bella?" Rosalie called concerned when Bella didn't say anything.
"I should finish getting ready," Bella said.
Bella forced herself to leave Rosalie's comfortable embrace to head to the bathroom. It was a good thing she showered while Rosalie was gone, otherwise they would be late for their reservation.
Bella removed her towel and started to get dressed. She had just fastened her bra when Rosalie walked in. Her eyes roamed her half naked mate's body before settling on Bella's face. "What's wrong?" she asked concerned.
"It's nothing," Bella said quickly. Now wasn't the time for this conversation. It could wait until tomorrow.
"Bella," Rosalie said softly.
Bella turned around to face Rosalie. "Really, it's nothing. We need to get ready for dinner and it's not a conversation we can have in public."
Rosalie's eyes widened. She wasn't entirely sure what Bella was getting at but she had an idea. "Okay," she agreed. "We'll discuss it later." She stepped closer to Bella. "Would you like me to do your hair?" she questioned.
"I was thinking just a braid," Bella told her.
Bella closed her eyes while Rosalie braided her hair. When Rosalie finished, she opened her eyes again. "You need to finish getting dressed," Rosalie told her. Rosalie helped her into her dress and zipped it up. "You look beautiful." Rosalie leaned forward to kiss her. "I love you."
"I love you too," Bella said, smiling slightly. "Get ready while I get my shoes on. I don't want to be late."
Rosalie laughed and sped off to the room to get her clothes. Bella walked out of the bathroom and found Rosalie fully dressed and ready to go.
Bella rolled her eyes as she took her sandals from Rosalie. "Took you long enough," she teased.
"Some of us are still human," Bella said.
"For now," Rosalie muttered. She glanced at Bella. "Is that still your plan?"
Bella nodded. "It is what I want," Bella confirmed. Bella sighed. "That's what I wanted to talk to you about."
Rosalie frowned. "I don't understand," she admitted.
"I'm ready now Rose," Bella told her. "I mean, not right this second but after our time here in Vegas, I want to be turned."
Rosalie swallowed hard. She knew this was coming. She was surprised Bella had waited a full year before bringing it up again. "You're sure about this?" she asked although she already knew the answer.
"I'm sure," Bella confirmed. She glanced at the time. "I really don't want to miss dinner. Can we talk about this after?"
"Okay," Rosalie agreed.
After a quick check, they left the hotel room and made their way downstairs for dinner. Rosalie had so many questions but she respected Bella's decision to hold off on the conversation until after dinner. If this was one of Bella's last few human events, then Rosalie refused to ruin it.
They were late for their reservation but only by a few minutes. Rosalie gave the man two hundred dollars and their tardiness was forgiven. They were led to a table and told someone would be by to take their drink orders soon.
Bella glanced around the room, looking at the different stations at the buffet. The center looked to be desserts, at least on this side. There was a seafood station, meat station, a salad bar, an entire section dedicated to bread, and several stations for different international cuisine. Bella couldn't wait to try it all.
"Go on," Rosalie urged.
Bella frowned. "Don't we have to wait for the waiter?" she questioned.
"The waiter will come to take your drink order. I can do that for you," Rosalie replied. "What would you like?"
"Just water," Bella said. "With lemon."
Rosalie nodded. "Go get food."
Bella got up and wandered through the buffet. She grabbed a plate and slowly loaded it with an assortment of things. She wanted to try everything so she only put a little bit of each thing on her plate.
She returned to the table a few minutes later with her plate loaded. Her lemon water was at the table already. She must have taken longer than she expected.
Bella took her seat next to Rosalie. "Are you getting a fake plate?" she questioned.
"Later, when you want another plate," Rosalie said. The nice part about buffets was that she could easily get away with not eating.
Bella dipped a shrimp into the cocktail sauce before popping it into her mouth.
"Is it any good?" Rosalie questioned.
"Amazing," Bella said. She grabbed her fork so she could try the wagyu beef. She was most excited for the wagyu as it was supposed to be the most delicious cut of meat.
"Better than the other places we've been?" Rosalie wondered.
"Better than anything I've had in Vegas," Bella corrected. "Italy had the best food."
Rosalie laughed. "Yes, I suppose starting with Italy may not have been the best idea."
"No, it was a great way to start our trip," Bella told her.
"You're sure you're ready for all of this to end?" Rosalie questioned.
Bella sighed. She should have known Rosalie wouldn't be able to let it go. "There are things I will miss," Bella admitted. "Like this," she gestured to the food. "But I'm getting much more in comparison. I'm getting you Rose. All of you."
Rosalie took her hand. "I know," she said softly. "I still worry that in a few decades you'll regret your decision. I can't handle you resenting me for an eternity."
"I could never hate you," Bella told her. "No matter the reason."
"I know," Rosalie repeats. She pauses while Bella eats. "When do you want to do this?" Bella stared at her in shock. "I told you it was your choice, and when you decided you were ready, I would support it."
"I want to finish our time here," Bella told her. "There's not much more to see, maybe another day or two? Then we can drive up to Alaska."
"You want to drive to Alaska?" Rosalie questioned. "It'll be faster to fly."
Bella shook her head. "I want to do this but it doesn't have to be right away. I'm okay with driving and enjoying the road trip. One last road trip as a human," Bella added in a whisper.
Rosalie nodded. "If you're sure," she said. "If you change your mind, we'll find the closest airport and fly." She paused. "Would you like me to get you another plate?"
Bella swallowed a mouthful of shrimp. "Sure," she agreed. Her plate was almost empty and she was starving. "A salad please, with more of that wagyu."
Rosalie kissed her cheek before heading to the buffet. Bella leaned back in her seat and finished the last of her shrimp.
"Would you like some more water?" the waitress asked.
"Yes please," Bella answered.
The waitress filled the cup up. "Are you done with this? She asked as Rosalie returned with the salad.
"Yes," Bella said, handing the plate to her.
Once the waitress was gone Rosalie pushed the plate to Bella. "I should have made sure you ate earlier," Rosalie commented.
"I was napping earlier," Bella reminded her.
Rosalie rolled her eyes. "Before that, obviously," she said.
"We were busy," Bella said with a blush, remembering exactly what they were busy doing.
"Still, I could have ordered you room service," Rosalie said.
Bella shook her head. There was no use arguing. No matter how many times I told her I was fine, she would still be mad at herself for not making sure I ate.
After the salad, Bella got up for another plate. Though it was delicious, this would be her last plate before she tested out of the desserts. She filled the plate with every else she wanted to try before making her way back to the table where Rosalie was waiting.
"What else do you want to do while we're here?" Rosalie asked her.
"We were talking about going to the top of the Stratosphere," Bella reminded her.
"Are you sure you want to?" Rosalie questioned. "When I mentioned it, you were worried about tripping and falling over the edge."
Bella blushed. With her luck that was exactly what would happen. "I know you would never let me fall," Bella told her. "Even if that meant exposing yourself. Besides, if I did fall over, you would catch me," she finished with a shrug.
"I would," Rosalie confirmed. The Volturi be dammed, she would save her mate no matter what. "So, one more day then?"
"One more day," Bella confirmed.
One more day, and she would be on her way to her destiny.
