Y'all, Day 5 is finally here! These Games are progressing quickly, and I can't wait to see who wins!

Day 5

11 Remain

Maria Angelias, 17, D4 Female

Today was the day of the feast. It also marked the last day of our alliance with Vita. Because two of us could win, Kaiden and I would continue working together, and Vita would be on her own. It's not like Kaiden and I were great friends, we were just both from the same district and I liked him way more than I liked Vita.

Right now, the three of us were on the outskirts of the clearing of the cornucopia, waiting for whatever the Gamemakers decided to give us.

"Look over there," Vita said, pointing to the opposite side of the clearing.

"There's nothing there," Kaiden said, confused.

"I saw blond hair," Vita insisted. "It must be that boy from one and his alliance."

"They still outnumber us," I said. "But maybe it's just the pair from one. Maybe they left everyone else behind?"

"I doubt it," Kaiden said. "They need more than the two of them to beat the three of us."

"Well, that's obvious," I stated. "But did you see the boy from one fighting in the bloodbath? He could easily take on two of us."

"He's not that good," Vita said, shaking her head.

"Look, a hovercraft," Kaiden whispered, pointing up. We looked up, and sure enough, there was a dark shape flying towards us, in sharp contrast against the grayish-blue sky.

"The second that everything's on the ground, we're running," Vita said, getting up slightly to prepare to run.

Glint Cobalt, 18, D1 Male

"Look," Salix said, pointing to the opposite side of the clearing. "I think the Careers are over there."

I looked right where he was pointing, and sure enough, there the three remaining Careers were.

"We're taking them out today," I stated. Salix nodded. Our alliance had split up. Salix, Lyla, and I would be going in with the goal to take out the three Careers. We knew that there was no way all three of them could be taken out, but we could try. Anya and Grove were going to run in while we were fighting the Careers to grab as much as they could. We would meet them a little ways out from the Cornucopia. This was going to work. It had to.

"Look, Salix," I started. "Before we split up, I guess I want to tell you that I heard you talking to Anya."

He immediately paled. "I-"

"It's fine," I said, before he could finish. "I feel the same."

His jaw dropped. "But I thought you were straight?"

"No, I'm bi," I explained. "When I was saying goodbye to my parents, I told them and they disowned me."

"Shit, I'm sorry," He said. Then laughed a little. "You just had to tell me right before we run at our possible deaths."

I grinned. "Obviously."

"Alright, you two it's show time," Lyla said, interrupting our conversation. She looked at us, confused. "Why are you two smiling?"

"Nothing," I said. "We're ready."

"Okay," she said. "Hovercraft is about to land. The second it does, we run at the Careers."

"Salix, you stay behind us," I said. "You're a good fighter, but these three have been training their entire lives for this."

Lyla nodded in agreement. "None of them are extremely strong fighters, but they have received years of training."

"I guess," Salix said. He pointed straight up. "There it is."

Lyla and I positioned ourselves in front of him, ready to rush out. The hovercraft began lowering a crate, and the three Careers stepped out.

"Go for Vita," I said. "She's the most dangerous out of the three."

We stood up and emerged from the bush. Vita pulled her sword out and charged us, the other two close behind.

"We need to keep them on this side," I said. The other two nodded in agreement.

I met Vita's sword with my own, easily blocking her blow.

"You could've survived with us," she growled. "But instead, you die today."

I thrust out with my sword, catching her off guard. In my peripheral vision, I could see Salix and Lyla taking on the other Careers. Directly behind Vita, Grove and Anya were silently picking through the available items the hovercraft had dropped. I saw Grove light up, and she picked up a throwing knife. She turned towards Vita, aimed, and through it. The knife hit her in the back, near where her heart was. She stumbled, and I took that as my cue to stab her.

"They're behind us!" She shouted, trying to get up. But she had already lost too much blood. She was dead. The other two Careers turned away from Lyla and Salix and rushed at Grove and Anya. I looked over towards Lyla and Salix, to see Salix kneeling next to Lyla's body. Someone had clearly gotten a hit on her when she was distracted.

"Go, save them!" Salix said urgently. "Lyla will be fine."

I nodded, and rushed to save Grove and Anya.

BOOM! I saw Grove's body, pierced straight through with a spear. Anya was backing away, holding a sword in both hands.

"Over here!" I yelled. They both turned and grinned. Shit. Two on one wasn't ideal, but I could take them. I decided to go for the boy first. He was weaker than the girl, from what I could tell. Or maybe just dumber. But either way he would die quicker.

I quickly parried the girls blade, pushing her away and swung at the boy. He met my blade and tried pushing it out of my hand, but I twisted the blade, knocking it out of his hand. He scrambled backwards, trying to grab something else to fight me with. I rushed at him, but he jumped out of the way, causing my sword to get him in the leg. He looked behind me and shook his head. Then he ran around me, grabbed his sword and left the clearing with his district partner.

I surveyed the scene. Anya was nowhere to be found, and Salix was still by Lyla's side. I sprinted over and knelt down next to him.

"I don't think there's anything we can do," he said.

"No, there's something we can do," I said, frantically looking around.

"No," Lyla rasped. "I've lost too much blood. I promise, there's nothing you can do."

"Fuck, how'd they even get you?" I asked.

"It was when Grove took Vita out," Salix answered. "When she yelled, we both looked over, and they took that as an opportunity to take Lyla out."

He had tears running down his face.

"They got her," I said, my own tears starting, for both Lyla and Grove.

"I'm sorry I was such a bitch to you," I said to Lyla.

"It's fine," she said coughing. "You're not as much of a bitch now."

I laughed. "I wish you could be here longer."

"We were always going to die anyway," she said. "It is the Hunger Games, after all."

I rolled my eyes.

"Now, stop crying and go win for me," she said. "With Salix."

"I will," I said. "If he wants to."

"He does," she said. "You two are cute together. And deadly, so like, you're unstoppable."

"Be quiet," I said. She smiled, then grabbed my hand.

"Stay with me?" she asked.

"Obviously," I said. "You're not going to be alone."

She took three more shuddering breaths, then the life left her. Her hand fell away from mine. That was when the tears really started. Salix walked over to me, and we sat in the center of the clearing, leaning on each other and sobbing. Both of us had lost our partners, and it felt like our had ended in some way too.

"We have to win," he said. "For Lyla and Grove."

"For Lyla and Grove," I agreed.

Well, that chapter happened. I hate seeing some of my favorites go, but it has to happen. It is the Hunger Games, after all. These are the final sponsor questions, so please answer them, and use your points to help your tributes!

Sponsor System: My sponsor system is pretty easy. All you have to do is answer a few questions, and for each one you get correct, you get ten points. I keep a tally of everyone's points on my profile page, and once the Games start, you can PM me with and item and who you want it to go to, and that tribute will get it in the next chapter! Sponsor Questions will become invalid once we hit the top 8.

Q1: Where do you think Anya went?

Q2: Who do you think will win?

Current Alliances: Alliances have broken down to pairs.

Eulogies:

Vita: Being completely honest, she wasn't my favorite character. But she was very strong, and a thought she would last longer. Thank you for the submission!

Grove: Grove was an amazing character. I loved being able to write her, seeing her journey from the District to the Games. She was one of my favorites, thank you for the submission!

Lyla: At first, Lyla seemed like the normal Career. But the farther I got into the story, the more I saw how she could be different, and I loved it. Thank you so much for the submission!
