Hey guys, here's a little War of the Roses oneshot that just would not leave my mind. I hope you enjoy it.
Disclaimer: RWBY is owned by Rooster Teeth and Monty Oum (may he rest in peace).
The sky was dark as it began pouring rain in the isle of Patch, where Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee and Jaune Arc after all falling for each other following the defeat of Salem, had settled down together.
"And there was a huge explosion, but he just shook it off like it was nothing, and was coming right at us," Ruby narrated a story to the two kids, who just looked up in awe, "He hits Uncle Oscar, so your dad goes in for a stab, but nothing's working, that's when I knew what to do. I threw myself on top of him, but he has the strength of ten men, no, ten bears. His semblance made him invincible, it seemed like nothing we did could stop him."
"So how did you beat him?" asked Snow, a little girl with white hair and sapphire blue eyes.
"Oh, we tied a car to him and threw it off a cliff."
"Whoa."
At that moment, the front door opened, as Jaune and Weiss entered the house carrying multiple grocery bags, "We're home!" Weiss announced.
"Just in time too, looks like a storm is coming," Jaune added. Upon hearing that, the younger of the two kids, Rory, a young boy with dark red hair and silver eyes, paled at those words, as he and his sister went to help their parents put away the groceries, while Ruby started taking cookies out of the oven.
"So, anything happen while we were gone?"
"Well, before you got back, I was just telling the kids about how we took down Hazel."
Jaune and Weiss exchanged a look, "Why?"
"They asked me to tell some stories while we waited on the cookies," she told them.
"Was he really as strong as ten bears?" Snow asked, looking at her father.
Jaune felt a spot on his back that had been hit in the aforementioned battle all those years ago, "Felt like 20 to me." Ruby and Weiss both laughed at his response.
The rain continued pouring, it was still a calm night until a loud yelp echoed across the house following a loud roar of thunder, and the sky lit up with lightning. As soon as they heard the cry, Ruby, Jaune and Weiss all instinctively stood up, trying to find out where the scream had come from. They quickly found Rory, who was clinging tightly to Snow, visibly shaking with his eyes closed.
Jaune knelt down to his son's level so he could look at him face to face, "Hey buddy, what's wrong, did the thunder scare you?" He gently asked, Rory shook his head, but in that moment, the sound of more thunder rumbled across the sky. Rory yelped, clinging even tighter to his sister, who wrapped her arms around him. "It's okay, Rory, we're right here with you," Jaune placed a comforting hand on the silver eyed boy's shoulder.
Snow repeatedly whispered to her brother, gently caressing his back.
"Hey," Ruby said as she and Weiss walked towards him. "It's okay to be scared, Rory, did you know that when I was your age, I was scared of storms too?" Ruby gave him an encouraging smile.
Rory looked at her in total surprise, "Y-you were?" he asked, before again tightening his grasp as more lightning flashed.
Ruby nodded, "Yep, I was, I even held on to auntie Yang in the same way you're holding on to Snow right now." If he wasn't so frightened by the storm, Rory would look completely shocked, even Snow looked a little surprised to hear this.
"I used to be scared of storms too, you're not alone," Weiss told him, "I remember I used to have trouble sleeping at night whenever there was one, but I couldn't hold on to your aunt Winter because she was sick very often when we were kids."
"But… you're heroes… you're not scared of anything," Rory's shaking voice was confused.
"Everyone is scared of something," Jaune told his son, "I wasn't scared of storms as a kid, but there were a lot of things that did scare me."
"Like what, dad?" Snow asked, "What were you afraid of?"
Jaune thought for a moment, "Well, I remember when I was your age, there were nights where I thought there was a monster in my closet, so for a while I would sleep in grandma and grandpa's room or sometimes even with your aunt Saphron."
Snow looked down at Rory, "I used to think that too," she told him.
"I remember that," Weiss said, putting her arms around the kids, "we're all here with you, we won't let anything hurt you." Rory's body wasn't shaking as much now, but he didn't let go of Snow.
"Maybe there's something we could all do, to keep your mind off the storm?" Jaune suggested.
"C-Could you tell us some stories from when you were at Beacon?"
The parents smiled, thinking of old times, "That sounds like fun, now which one should we tell?" Ruby asked looking at Weiss and Jaune.
Jaune thought for a moment, they had already heard plenty of stories from Beacon, from the story of the dance to the time Nora drank coffee and had so much energy that she thought she had slipped through multiple parallel universes, so which one to tell this time? "Hmm, did we ever tell you about the time when your aunt Nora made me sing with her at a talent show at Beacon?" Immediately, Ruby and Weiss started laughing at the memory.
"No, please tell us!" The kids said in unison, excited about hearing a story from Beacon, and they found stories about their aunt Nora to be very funny. The family all sat down together on the couch as Jaune told the story.
After many stories from Beacon had been told, Rory was still glued to Snow, but had calmed down at least a little bit. It was late, and was time for the kids to go to bed. Snow could tell that Rory, although no longer shaking, was still feeling scared, "Can we sleep with you tonight?" she asked for him. Jaune, Weiss and Ruby all looked at each other and smiled.
"Yeah, if it helps you two sleep better."
