The next day, Sunday, September 29, 2030
The next morning, Kayleigh woke up, stretched, sat up and yawned. She unplugged her phone and stood up, grabbed some clothes so she could shower. She jumped into the shower and thirty minutes later, she got out of the shower, changed into her sweater and tights. She blew dried her hair and then straightened her hair. She heard her bedroom door being knocked on, she sighed as she yelled, 'Come in'."
Taylor, her best friend, walked into her bedroom. She sighed. "Kay, I need to tell you something. You might not like this but I'd rather you hear it from me than someone else…"
Kayleigh turned to her friend as she brushed her hair. "What's up, Tay?"
Taylor sighed as she took a deep breath. "Well, I gotta tell you something that might upset you."
Kayleigh nodded slowly. "Okay. Taylor, can you please tell me?"
Taylor nodded. "Yeah. So, Connor has been cheating on you with Sharlene…"
Kayleigh's eyes went wide. She didn't know what to think. Her boyfriend was cheating on her with Sharlene. Kayleigh felt her heart race. She felt her heart break into pieces. She was so heartbroken. She hated Sharlene. How could Connor do that to her? Tears filled up her eyes, she sniffed, as she looked at Taylor.
"I need to talk to him!"
Taylor shook her head. "You shouldn't. He doesn't deserve another word from you. Cut him off, Kay. Move on from the asshole. He definitely didn't care about you…"
Kayleigh sighed deeply. Taylor was right. He didn't deserve her or even care about her. If he did, he wouldn't have been cheating on her.
"You're right. He doesn't deserve me. If he wants to be with Sharlene, he can be with her. I deserve so much more."
Taylor nodded. "Yes, you do. He doesn't understand the heartbreak he's causing you, but you will find someone way better."
"Yes, I will!" Kayleigh said, as she texted Jake, her friend of a few months.
Kayleigh's text message: "Hey. Do you want to have breakfast with me?" She set her phone down and turned to Taylor. "I texted Jake…"
Taylor's eyes went wide. "Jake Sanchez?! The super hot and sexy guy who absolutely loves you?!"
Kayleigh laughed. "He doesn't love me. We're just friends."
Taylor giggled as she was super excited for her friend of 14 years. "Girl, yes, he loves you…"
Kayleigh rolled her eyes. "Whatever you say, Taylor, but you're wrong…"
Taylor giggled. "Right...You'll see…"
Kayleigh's phone beeped.
She opened her phone and saw Jake texted her back.
Jake's text message: "Sure! I'll pick you up in 15 minutes."
Taylor smiled. "You are so in denial girl."
Kayleigh rolled her eyes. "No, I'm not. Who says he's in love with me?"
Taylor chuckled. "Uh, everyone?"
Kayleigh sighed. "Whatever. I'll see you later?" She said, walking downstairs with Taylor behind her.
Taylor nodded. "Yeah."
15 minutes later, Kayleigh was able to walk out of the house when Cody cleared his throat. "Kayleigh?"
Kayleigh smiled as she turned around. "Heyyy, Daddy...What's up?"
Cody looked at his daughter. "Where are you going?"
Kayleigh smiled slightly. "I'm going to breakfast with Jake. He asked me out."
Cody frowned as he crossed his arms. "Isn't he older than you?"
Kayleigh nodded. "Only by 4 years. It's not that big of a deal, Dad."
Cody's eyes widened. "Yes it is. He could have been arrested by dating a fifteen year old girl."
Kayleigh sighed. "I'm not dating him, Dad. We're just friends. I know his sister. That's how I met him."
Cody nodded. "Oh okay then." He smiled. "Well in that case have fun."
Kayleigh smiled and headed to Jake's car. "Hey."
Jake smiled. "Hey, how are you doing?"
Kayleigh sighed as she teared up. "I think Connor is cheating on me..." She sniffed. "Taylor just told me..." She took a deep breath. "I'm not sure what to think now..."
Jake's eyes went wide. "If he's cheating on you, he's a dick for not seeing how beautiful you are. He never understood what he'd be missing out on."
Kayleigh looked at him. "Really?"
Jake backed out of the driveway. "Yeah. Hell, I'd be pissed. I know I'm mad at him for doing something like that to you." He drove off to the diner. "You deserve so much better, Kay. I'm telling you."
Kayleigh smiled. "Thanks."
Jake groaned. "I don't understand how someone could cheat on someone. I broke things off with my ex because..." He paused. "Well..."
Kayleigh looked at him, wanting to hear what he's going to say. "What?"
Jake took a deep breath. "I've been in love with you for the longest time..."
Kayleigh's eyes went wide. "What? Why didn't you tell me?"
Jake sighed. "Because you were dating Connor at the time and I don't want to get in the way, so I kept quiet about my feelings for you. Because I dont know whether you feel the same way or not."
Kayleigh looked at him. "Jake..." She smiled. "...I'm glad you told me. I'm not even sure if I'm in love with Connor anymore..."
Jake looked at her surprised. "Really?"
Kayleigh smiled. "Yeah. He's been distant, an asshole to me and to be honest, he cussed me out the other night..." She teared up. "I've hated myself for pissing him off..."
Jake nodded, understanding. "Oh, I'm sorry."
Kayleigh shruggled her shoulders. "I guess it wasn't meant to be. He is with Sharlene now, I guess..." She showed him his Instagram when Jake parked the car. "See."
Jake stared at the instagram. "Wow, what an asshole."
Kayleigh nodded her head. "Yeah."
They walked into the diner, got seated and Kayleigh sighed as she saw Connor with Sharlene a few rows in front of them. "Well, that's something I never thought I'd see..."
Jake looked over at him. "Hey, he's not worth it." He smiled. "If you want, we can show him something he's not expecting."
Kayleigh nodded. "Really? What do you have in mind?"
Jake smiled. "Maybe. A kiss?"
Kayleigh suddenly felt her heart race. She didn't expect him to say that. She gave a nod to the idea. What's the harm? Connor is cheating on her after all. "Okay." She smiled at him.
Jake looked at Connor and when he was looking over at them, he leaned in and kissed her.
Kayleigh wrapped her arms around his neck as she kissed him back. After a few minutes, they pulled away.
Connor saw them and was definitely upset at the fact Kayleigh was kissing someone else. He got up from his seat and walked over to them.
"Kayleigh, what do you think you're doing?!"
Kayleigh rolled her eyes. "What does it look like I'm doing? I'm kissing my boyfriend." She said, as Jake kissed her head and wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
Connor was now upset. "I thought I was your boyfriend!"
Kayleigh gave a chuckle, smiling before rolling her eyes. "Yeah, you were my boyfriend until you cheated on me with Sharlene. You know I'd end up finding out, right?"
Connor rolled his eyes. "Oh please. I can't have girls as friends? That's insane!"
Kayleigh crossed her arms. "My turn to say, 'Oh please.' You weren't hiding her from me obviously, it's all over your Instagram. You were all over her!" She laughed. "You're obviously not 'friends' with her, you're her boyfriend now. Hope it goes well for you."
Connor sighed. "But…"
Kayleigh laughed. "But, nothing. Once a cheater, always a cheater…"
Jake glared at him. "I believe my girl is hinting for you to leave. Like she said, 'once a cheater, always a cheater…"
Jake laughed. "Whatever floats your boat." He smiled at Kayleigh.
After dropping off Kayleigh, she walked into the house and leaned against the door, smiling.
Bailey smiled. "Well somebody had a lot of fun this morning."
Kayleigh smiled and snaped out of her thoughts. "What?"
Bailey smiled, laughing. "You got that look on your face. The 'just had the best kiss of your life' look on your face."
Kayleigh smiled, blushing, giggling. "It was amazing. Don't tell Dad!"
Bailey nodded her head. "Of course, sweetie."
Cody walked over to his wife and daughter. "Don't tell me what?"
Kayleigh smiled. "Nothing!" She blushed as she walked upstairs.
Bailey sighed. "Breathe, Cody. Nothing is happening."
Cody sighed. "Come on, Bails. I need to know. She's my daughter.'
Bailey sighed. "She's my daughter too, Cody. She told me not to tell you. She's a teenager now. She deseves her private moments where she doesn't have to tell you everything."
Cody sighed. "But..."
Bailey shook her head. "That's enough, Cody! Don't bother her."
Cody sighed. "Fine."
Later that night
Kayleigh, Aleeah, Taylor, Jaxie, Natalie and Leah go out to the bowling alley. Kayleigh was wearing her favorite blue jeans and her white blouse and jean jacket and her black boots before taking them off to put the shoes on. Aleeah was wearing her pink sweater and black jeans with her black wedges.
Kayleigh looked at Taylor when she saw Jake. "Taylor! What's Jake doing here?"
Taylor laughed. "Oh come on! You're upset that your boyfriend is here?"
Kayleigh sighed. "I guess I'm not upset." She was pushed over to Jake.
Jake caught her. "Woah! Are you okay?"
Zack looked at his brother. "Dude, what the hell are we doing at the bowling alley? Our girls deserve some time alone with their friends without us breathing their necks knowing everything in their lives. I'm protective of Aleeah, but dude, if Maya says 'She promised me not to tell', I keep my mouth shut until she wants me to know..."
Cody sighed. "I need to know what's going on between Kayleigh and Jake. She said she was coming here tonight..."
Zack rolled his eyes. "Dude, this is crazy." He looked at him.
Cody shook his head. "No, its not, Zack."
Zack sighed. "So...You coming out, spying on your daughter isn't crazy?"
Across the room, Kayleigh sighed. "I'm going to suck at this so much."
Aleeah rolled her eyes. "Kay, the point of this is to have fun, not putting yourself down."
Jake smiled. "I can help you." He stood behind her, wrapped his arms around her and smiled. "Okay, you should be good, Kay. You don't even have to win. I'm sure I suck too, but we're here to have fun." He kissed her cheek before backing up.
Cody's eyes went wide. He looked at his brother. "Did you see that?!"
Zack sighed. "It was just a kiss on the cheek. Calm down."
Kayleigh took her turn and got a strike. She smiled. "Well, I didn't expect that."
Jake smiled as he leaned in and kissed her, lifting her up and smiled at her. "See. I told you you'd have fun."
Kayleigh smiled. "Yeah. Thanks to you." She wrapped her arms around his neck.
Aleeah laughed. "Okay, you two. You can take that PDA somewhere else…Like after we're done here…"
Kayleigh giggled. "Whatever you say, Aleeah Mackenzie. You and Stephen do that all the time."
Aleeah shrugged her shoulders. "Guilty."
Cody's eyes went wide. "Alright. I've seen enough..."
Zack's eyes went wide. "Cody..." He grabbed his arm. "Bro, if you go over there, she's going to be so pissed at you!"
Cody frowned. "I don't care. She's still my little girl."
Zack sighed. "Cody..." Before he could continue, Cody walked over there.
Aleeah's eyes went wide. "Kay, why is Uncle Cody here?"
Kayleigh laughed. "Girl, he's at home. He wouldn't follow me here."
Aleeah sighed and turned her cousin around. "See for yourself. Overprotective father alert."
Kayleigh turned around and saw Cody standing there. Her eyes went wide. "Dad! What are you doing here? How did you know I'd be here?" She let go of Jake.
Cody was very angry. "You are grounded young lady!"
Kayleigh glared at her father. "I'm not your little girl anymore quit treating me like one!"
Cody was still pissed. "Oh yeah? You were kissing Jake! You lied and said you were just friends!"
Kayleigh was pissed at her father. "Yeah well we're dating are you happy now?!"
Cody nodded. "Oh yeah. I'm so happy. My daughter who is 15 is dating a 19 year old. I'm so glad!" He crossed his arms. "I'm not happy with this! You're 15, Kayleigh!"
Kayleigh rolled her eyes. "So?! I'm happy with him! He isn't an asshole. You just don't understand! I'm not your little girl anymore!"
Cody crossed his arms around his chest. "As long as you live under my roof you'll obey my orders!"
Zack walked over. "Dude, it's not that big of a deal. As long as they're not having sex, it's fine. That's just me anyway..."
Kayleigh looked at her uncle. "Thank you!"
Zack nodded. "No problem."
Kayleigh wrapped her arms around Jake's waist. "Natalie is seeing his brother. What's wrong with her seeing Noah? You haven't freaked out..."
Natalie whispered to her sister. "He didn't know. Thanks sis..."
Kayleigh's eyes went wide. "That information would've been nice, Nat..."
Natalie slapped her face. "How did I know he would be here?!"
Kayleigh sighed. "Well, tell overprotective Daddy over there."
Natalie looked at Cody, who now looks like he has smoke coming out of his ears. "Natalie Samantha, you never told me you were seeing someone who is 5 years older than you?!"
Natalie rolled her eyes. "Well, cause I know you'll over react like this, so that's why I didn't tell you about Noah and I."
Noah walked over to Natalie, wrapped his arms around her, and kissed her cheek. "I treat her the way she wants to be treated, I'm not forcing her to do anything...I..." He got cut off by Cody.
Cody's eyes stayed wide. "I don't care. You two are sooo grounded." He said, angry, looking at his daughters and glaring at the boys.
Noah looked at him. "They don't have to leave if they don't want to. I'm sure you'd be embarrassed if your mom was here when you were Kayleigh and Natalie's age. It's embarrassing for them to have you here."
Zack nodded his head in agreement. "He's right. Stop it, Cody!"
Natalie layed her head on Noah's shoulder. "Thank you, Uncle Zack..."
Zack smiled. "You're welcome Natalie."
Cody shook his head, but then just looked at his daughters. "Fine. I'll leave, but you two are still grounded..."
Natalie and Kayleigh both sighed. "Fine."
Later that night, Cody and Bailey's home
Both Kayleigh and Natalie groan and moan S they walk inside the house with Cody behind them.
Bailey's eyes went wide. "What the feathers?"
Kayleigh sighed. "Mom, talk to Dad please. He's being so unfair! We're grounded for seeing our boyfriends…" She said, as she and Natalie walked upstairs to their rooms.
Bailey looked at her husband. "I'd love to know why you were sneaking around our daughters and embarrassed them in front of their boyfriends, but you know that everything you did was wrong, Cody. Our daughters are now teenagers. No teenager wants to tell Daddy everything about her love life, okay? They want to be able to go out with their boyfriends without you following them everywhere." She crossed her arms.
Cody sighed deeply. Bailey was right. He was a little much overprotective today. His baby girls aren't his baby girls like they were years ago. He took a deep breath. "Bay, maybe you're right…" He hugged her. "Everything is so new for me."
Bailey sighed. "I know. I know. You need to understand that Natalie and Kayleigh don't need you to be all over them. They'll come to you when they need you." She kissed him. "I love you."
"I love you too, Bails." He said, kissing her back.
To be continued…
