Luke's apartment

Luke leaned back on the couch, just watching his girlfriend prepare to go out, wondering how he got so lucky to have her in his life. He was reminded of an old Eric Clapton song which was the perfect song for this moment.

As if she felt his eyes on her, Buffy turned and asked with that sweet, yet sultry tone she reserved just for him, "Do I look okay for tonight?"

Still thinking of the song, Luke replied, "You look wonderful."

She glided across the room and leaned down to brush her lips against his. "Good answer. We should get going now. Sooner we leave, the sooner we can come home," she added with a hint of lust in her voice.

He really wanted to say screw it to going out and just take her to bed, but this was a party he couldn't skip. Although if it wasn't for Buffy, he would really, really want to skip it. Despite never having actually dated Lorelai, he sort of felt like he was in a relationship with her for several years and going to her engagement party to Rory's teacher would have gutted him.

Meeting Buffy changed all that.

He was feeling at his lowest because he had just seen Lorelai and Max together for the first time, acting all couple-y (he could hear Buffy saying the word) in the snowstorm when Buffy burst into the diner, begging him for some tea. It wasn't precisely love at first sight – for him at least – but it was damn close to it. And he wouldn't change a thing about their time together now.

When they walked into the town square, everyone did a double take at the fact that not only was he there, he had a date. It probably didn't hurt that she was drop dead gorgeous as well. There would be hell to pay tomorrow when the gossips hunted him down for the whole story. He winced at the thought, causing Buffy to turn to him and ask, "Are you feeling okay?"

Seeing the concern in her eyes, he couldn't help but smile softly. He pulled her into his arms and began to dance with her. After a few minutes, he answered, "I feel wonderful because you're with me tonight." He stopped himself before he could declare he loved her for the first time. Not because it wasn't true, but he didn't want to do it in public.

His well wishes to Lorelai and Max were genuine, but he was still happy to make an early departure because he had to open the diner the next morning.

Before they fell asleep, Buffy asked if she passed the test, and he told her, "You were wonderful tonight."

"Okay, but tomorrow, let's stop living in an Eric Clapton song," she said with a grin, proving once again that they were right for each other.

This time he didn't stop the words. "I love you."

A/N: Editing took me over the 20-minute mark, but not long enough that it should matter. I've been wanting to do a Luke/Buffy story at this point in GG canon for a while now. The song and challenge gave me the inspiration to do it now.
