Chapter 12: The Battle of the Juices

Percy P.O.V

Percy was abruptly pulled out of his sleep by a familiar voice. "Percy! Get up!"

"5 more minutes!"

"That's what you said 5 minutes ago!"

Percy didn't deign a response, just pulling his pillow pet closer to him. Reyna had given it to him as a joke, but he loved it. So what if it was a joke? What was he supposed to do? Return it? He wasn't that cruel and heartless. Unlike a certain deceased roman augur.

Annabeth sighed. "You leave me with no choice."

Percy's eyes flew open. "I'm awake!"

The last time she had said that…It hadn't been pretty.

"Percy!"

Percy just rolled over, away from her.

"I'm not kidding! Get up right now!"

Percy let out an incoherent noise. Surely, 5 more minutes wouldn't hurt?

"I'm sorry. I don't have much of a choice, Percy."

Too tired to register what she had said, Percy burrowed deeper into his pillow, hoping his girlfriend would leave him alone.

"HEY!" Percy exclaimed, letting out a little yelp as the bedsheets were promptly pulled off of him.

By this point, Percy was too cold and annoyed to go back to sleep. He opened his eyes, and saw that Annabeth had already fled the scene of the crime. He groaned, resigned to his fate.

Or that other time…

Percy vaguely felt someone shaking him. He cracked open one eye and saw Annabeth looking down at him. "Get up, Percy. We have to leave in 15 minutes!"

Percy groaned. Where were they going again? It couldn't be that important. He frowned slightly. Whatever. He could just go back to sleep.

"Annabeth huffed. You leave me no choice, Percy."

Slightly worried, Percy opened his eyes. The last thing he saw was a blue shape rapidly approaching his face. It was only once the object was smooshed against his face that he realized that it was a pillow.

Percy's survival instincts kicked in before he realized what he was doing. He immediately sat up in the bed, his beloved pillow pet momentarily forgotten.

He looked around the room, and found Annabeth leaning against a wall, smirking.

She shook her head at him. "So gullible."

Percy's lips twitched upwards. "I'm not even gonna pretend to know what that means."

Annabeth opened her mouth, but Percy quickly cut her off. "But that's fine. What do you want?"

Annabeth raised her eyebrow at him. "Do you remember what day it is, Percy?"

"Of course, I do! It's the 18th! The day we got together. The day we blew the Titans into itty bitty pieces. The day I was born!"

Annabeth rolled her eyes. "Yes, Seaweed Brain. And we're going on a road trip today!"

"Oh, yeah!"

Annabeth shook her head at him. "Good thing we already packed. But we are responsible for the food. We'll keep our breakfast in the RV's fridge."

Percy nodded. "Yeah, and we'll eat out for lunch and dinner."

"I can't believe you were actually listening!" She teased.

Percy, like the mature adult he was, stuck his tongue out at her.

Annabeth snorted at his antics. "So, a last-minute stop at the grocery store?"

Percy pushed the cart towards the last thing on their list: Orange juice. He and Annabeth had agreed that orange juice was an essential part of breakfast. He wasn't positive their relationship would've worked out if she'd been an apple juice person. Thankfully, they were both on the same page when it came to the awesomeness of orange juice.

Once they reached the drink aisle, he and Annabeth reached for a jug of juice at the same time. Seeing the jug his hand was on, Annabeth gasped. "No pulp?! What's wrong with you?"

Percy wrinkled his nose. "The pulp tastes all slimy in your mouth! No pulp is much better!"

"No way! It only tastes like juice if there's pulp in it! The pulp makes it more orangey!"

"No, the no-pulp always tastes better!"

She sent him a murderous look. "You barbarian ! No-pulp tastes all sour and disgusting!"

"No, the one with pulp is disgusting!"

Now their noses were just a couple inches from each other.

Percy narrowed his eyes at her. "What? Are you afraid of drinking the no-pulp juice? Too wimpy?"

She put her hands on her hips. "No! You're the wimpy one! The pulp isn't slimy!"

Percy narrowed his eyes. "You aren't a coward? Prove it."

She narrowed her eyes. "Fine. But you too."

Percy huffed. "Fine."

They got a smaller jug of no-pulp orange juice, and a second small jug of juice with pulp. They had agreed to try the other juice for one meal during the road trip. Percy was determined to show his girlfriend the magic of no-pulp orange juice.

It was on.
