Alright! This has gotten quite a bit of support, so let's keep going and see where this adventure takes us!

First some housekeeping concerning how the DC Universe affects the MHA lore. For all intents and purposes this is a merged universe where both fandoms have been roughly combined. To keep things simple, Metahuman powers from DC will be configured into Quirks should another DC Hero show up. DC outer space shenanigans still exist as well with heroes like Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Starfire existing.

However Superman doesn't exist in this universe. There is literally no point. All Might fills the role almost to the letter. I feel like if Superman exists here it will cheapen All Might's purpose in the story of My Hero Academia.

Finally there's Doctor Fate himself. This won't be the comic book version of him; that one is way too overpowered. Instead he'll be scaled down to levels more commonly seen with his animated counterparts. Which will still make him pretty powerful at least. The advantage I have with making Doctor Fate a teacher instead of a student in Class 1A is that he can have his own adventures without being too restricted to the storyline of MHA.

And those who are aware of Eri and Overhaul's role in the story. Doctor Fate has already made a major change to the canon.

So let's see how much more changes.

"God...father…?" Eri blinked in confusion as she looked at the man that sat next to her hospital bed.

"Yeah, if something happened your parents wanted me to take care of you." Ren said in a soft voice to help keep the girl calm while he spoke. "I told them I was going to call myself that because it sounds like a cool name." He smiled, but frowned when he saw Eri's own features stiffen.

"My parents…." The girl's voice began to tremble and her hands tighten on the apple she still held as the memories flooded back into her mind.

Her daddy's clothes lying on the floor after he vanished...

Her mamma called her all those terrible things….

Then Chisaki used her, hurt her, condemning her existence...

A hand placed on Eri's head shattered her out of the painful recollection and her body went tense, expecting pain any second. However when none came she mustered the will to look at Ren. He was softly ruffling her gray hair. His eyes bore none of the cruel intensity of the yakuza that used Eri for his experiments; there was only kindness and understanding.

"I miss him too little one. I knew him for my entire life like a brother. He wouldn't blame you and neither do I. I came to save you from the pain." Ren whispered in understanding. That made tears well up in those red eyes staring back at him.

"Why?" Eri managed to ask out in a strained squeak. "I'm….I'm...I'm…." Droplets were on the verge of spilling down her cheeks. She didn't deserve this. She was told she was only a curse by everyone. Why was this man doing this for her?!

"You are my goddaughter, and I love you Eri. All I want to do is keep you safe and see you happy." Ren replied back, retracting his hand and instead reached into his sleeve to produce a handkerchief from out of nowhere. Gently dabbing away the built up tears with his soft touch.

That finally broke the small child. Without warning Eri flung her arms around Ren. The apple rolled to the foot of the bed as she began to cry into his suit jacket uncontrollably. A gesture he returned embracing the child with his own arms. He waited patiently, softly rubbing her back as she let out all the pain and misery she had to endure for so long in such a short life. Feeling Eri's tiny hands clench up the fabric of his suit while she sobbed unrelentlessly. It saddened Ren to see her like this, an innocent little girl that didn't deserve what the world did to her. Ren regretted not coming sooner, he wished things had played out differently and the dangers he was forced to stop never came to be. Just so he could be by Eri's side sooner

When her breathing slowed once more did the girl look up at the man who saved her.

"You promise?" She asked through a strained voice with puffy red eyes. She had suffered so much heartbreak and pain in just the few years she had lived. Yet this man was trying to prove his honesty to look after her. How could he hold up such a vow to her?

Ren merely smiled as he raised his hand up to her and extended out a pinky to her.

"When your dad and I were your age. We made promises this way." The man revealed while using his other hand to again wipe her face free of tears. "Raise your pinky up and I'll show you." he offered, making the child blink in apprehension before she slowly mimicked his gesture and watched him take hold of her finger with his larger one.

"I promise I will take care of you, protect you, and make you smile again one day Eri." Ren promised with a sincere smile on his face. "Now and forever I pinky promise." he said gently swinging their connected fingers back and forth. Letting their pinkies go before he took the entirety of her hand into his own to give it a squeeze. "The doctors want to keep you for another night to make sure you will be ok. But after that, you can come home with me and I'll make you the biggest, and most delicious meal you have ever had." he said as the girl slightly frowned.

"Will…." Ren frowned at the hesitance in Eri's voice as her eyes lowered to the floor again. "Will...you…" There was fear in her voice as she struggled with her request. Her hands trembled while she clenched the sheet.

"I'll stay with you until you fall asleep." Ren finished making the girl look up at him in shock. He knew what she wanted and agreed. Without question he agreed. Without want he agreed. That alone made the little girl embrace him once again. "I've got a real hugger on my hands after all." he smiled resting his head on top of hers. "Now why don't I tell you a little about myself and that gold helmet sitting on the table next to you. Raven! Come on in." he decided before calling down the hall for Raven to join them.

Eri deserved to meet both of the heroes who saved her from her nightmares. Heroes who had a bit of explaining to do to certain people...

-The Next Day: New York City-

In a world where superheroes existed, there had to be rules and regulations in place to prevent them from assuming the role of judge, jury, and executioner. Thus gave rise to the Hero Public Safety Commission. The international organization tasked with overseeing Pro Heroes to ensure they didn't become the criminals they swore to defeat and apprehend. However within this commission was a smaller branch specializing in a more specific aspect of Pro Heroes.

The Council of Magi.

Established in the early days of the Pro Hero laws, the council handled the ones that used magic in addition to Quirks in their duties to the public. Like the rest of The Commission the council members were either former or non heroes, but all with extensive backgrounds in the arcane arts. Seen by many as a sort of governing body for the dwindling magicians, sorcerers, enchanters, and et cetera left in the world. They ensured the integration of magic into the modern day justice system, and even went as far as banning Pro Heroes from utilizing certain fields of magic in their endeavors.

Notable examples of course included.

The use of alchemy to produce gold and de-stabilize the global economy.

Time travel to avert a past event or traveling forward for personal gain like acquiring a sports almanac from the future would find you stranded in the dark age when they burned witches at the stake. However time dilation to slow the present was still being debated on its stance of usage.

Necromancy would put a target on your back large enough that literally every available hero would come after you.

So it was here in New York City that Doctor Fate found himself being summoned to. For he was not on official business when he chose to rescue his goddaughter. He acted and planned his assault on his own. Now he must explain himself.

"I struggle to understand the need for this meeting Zatara." Doctor Fate sighed while he was within the Council of Magi's chambers with only one of the councilmen. "Kai Chisaki was a criminal torturing a child in an attempt to produce a weapon that could destroy a person's Quirk. My apprentice and I acted and dealt with the threat." It had been only a day since the rescue of Eri from the Shie Hassaki, and it didn't take long for the council to summon Fate for a discussion concerning his actions in Japan. With the older Italian-American councilman with graying hair and mustache sighing as he leaned against the council's podium.

"No one is denying you saving that child was the right thing to do Ren." Zatara explained towards his old student that stood before him. "It's how you did it." he corrected. "You stalked notable high ranking members before they committed a crime and abducted them, entered their base of operations without a search warrant, and you took Raven on a mission that can be seen as a violation of her provisional license to operate under the work study program." he said listing the reasons why the council was not too pleased with Doctor Fate. "I don't even want to know what Nabu's spirit thinks on this matter." Zatara admitted uncertain if the entity that empowered Doctor Fate would have supported or condoned such lengths the wearer of the helmet went to over rescuing a single child in the grand scheme of the universe.

"No, you don't."That line alone made Zatara question at times if Ren really was still in control whenever he wore the helmet that housed Nabu's spirit. "I turned over the voicemail from the Shie Hassaki's leader detailing what he knew of Chisaki's plan. Before her father died, Eri's parents appointed me as their child's godparent and stated in their will that I have the legal right to assume custody of her should something happen to either of them. I waited to fight until Chisaki provoked such conflict. While Raven was not even involved in any fights thanks to my distraction. All of the evidence seized from the complex pointed to the Boss's words being true before Chisaki forced him into some kind of coma." Doctor Fate said listing off the methods he had used to handle his independent operation on the Yakuza. "You and I both know the lengths you would go to for your own family." he added with slightly narrowed eyes over the provocations about the morality of his actions.

"Yes…" Zatara admitted but not wavering before the Hero of Order. "That's not the point I'm trying to make. You did this just mere months before you're assuming a teaching position. It was borderline vigilantism, a thin line you can't afford to walk if you are setting an example for children at one of the most prestigious Hero Courses in Japan; that I should note was also your former school before you partook in the foreign exchange program here in the United States." he said reminding one of the most powerful sorcerers on the planet. The words weren't said out of some form of authority. This was an old teacher trying to ensure his student didn't stray beyond what was important. "I'm grateful that child is free, but you have to be cautious if you act in Japan. In the grand scheme it remained mostly untouched from the paranormal and despite it being your home you haven't performed much actual hero work there. Your reputation isn't well known in a land that praises Quirks more than most. " he added as he had personally reviewed all of Fate's work across the globe in dealing with villany that threatened to destroy the world with mystical dangers.

"Alright, I promise I'll behave better but please ensure none of this looks bad on Raven will you? She agreed to come along but at the end of the day I was the one who consented and told her what to do." Fate sighed before making his request to the older man who nodded in response. At the least, he could ensure his apprentice didn't suffer repercussions for his personal mission

"That I can do." Zatara said before his posture relaxed, grateful that a bigger argument wasn't going to erupt out of this situation. He could smooth things out with the rest of the council and the commission with all the evidence stacked against the yakuza's actions on the matter. At worst they may just want to issue a fine and keep a better eye on Fate as a precaution. "Speaking of, has Raven decided to transfer overseas?" It wasn't a question concerning their previous discussion. This was just curiosity over his old student having one of his own now. It was common for Pro Heroes to adopt proteges who were still teenage students; it wasn't until Ren Nagasaki took on the mantle of Doctor Fate did his and Zatara's relationship deepen to the same type of level.

"I told her she could continue studying at Titans Academy and I can contact her when needed. However now that Eri will be living with me, she already made her mind up to move in to 'help' me." Fate sighed while crossing his arms underneath his cloak. Rachel Roth, better known by her alias of Raven, first appeared in Ren's life four years ago lost and confused. An empath mage native to this world but raised in another dimension, forced to flee back because of certain dangers choosing to pursue her. A fight that Fate decided to intervene in her favor. An intervention that left a lasting impression on the child as she chose to pursue the life of a hero herself. Once she was shy and awkward but after enrolling in Jump City's Titans Academy to study in the Hero Course she quickly developed a sense of dry humor that outmatched any the doctor had seen before. Ren would tease her that he was her hero hence why she sought him as her master in the world of magic; she would respond that it was the result of a coin toss to decide between either him or the Demon Hero: Etrigan. Now wherever Doctor Fate arrived to defeat evil, it was with the mysterious Raven by his side; whether it be to provide support or make a sarcastic remark towards the enemy or Fate himself.

"My experiences as a single father to a daughter and son would agree having another woman present will save you a lot of trouble." Zatara chuckled in agreement with Raven's decision. "How long do you think she will rely on translation spells for Japanese?" he asked, recalling a time when Ren himself struggled with speaking English. Something that had made the poor boy embarrassed over his constant mistranslations.

"Not long, Raven will probably have it figured out in less than six months. She's a gifted girl after all." Fate admitted before his eyes softened. "How is Zatanna doing?" he suddenly asked in a lower tone of voice. Something that made the other man's expression saddened a bit.

"She's doing good. She called me yesterday and said she's taking her stage shows to Europe." Zatara said pertaining to his daughter with a silence falling over the room as Fate nodded back in response. It was clear the doctor wanted to ask more, but he was restraining himself "Are you sure you don't want to call her? I'm sure…"

"No, it's best I don't disturb her. I appreciate the offer though." Doctor Fate quickly interrupted the suggestion of reaching out to her before turning and stretching his arm out to open a portal. "I need to return to Japan anyway. The principal of the school is holding the first meeting of the staff to introduce me." he said as the ankh shaped gateway appeared before them. "Until next time Giovanni." he said.

"Of course." Zatara replied, watching Fate step through his portal before vanishing in thin air. Giovanni was nearing his fifties by this point and as a former magician of actual magic inclination he owned few personal electronic devices. One of the notable exceptions was of course the smartphone he carried. The used phone had been a gift from his daughter Zatanna after she bought a new one and wanted to be rid of the memories that it carried. One that made Zatara pull it from his pocket and scroll through its stored pictures to one of the few that hadn't been deleted. A moment in time captured when his daughter was still a teenager in a light blue dress for her prom.

A happy smile on both her and Ren's faces as they took the selfie together before the big dance.

"I wish I could have done things differently…" Zatara wished once more. It was his fault the boy had walked down the path of becoming Doctor Fate.

-U.A. High School, Japan-

There was no denying the school with the highest reputation in this country spent its money and they spent it well. U.A., was a school none could miss when the main building was a fifteen story glass structure fashioned into the shape of a fused letter U and A. Behind the massive barricade built to keep the press out was an impressive campus of facilities and simulation areas all for the students that would soon be arriving/returning to pursue the dream of being the next great hero of the school's alumni.

Oh how the Ren within Doctor Fate wished he could consider himself a member of such reputation properly. The last time he stepped foot past the security barrier was when he was a boy leaving for his Foreign Exchange Studies in the United States. It was nearing the end of his first year and he was far too excitable at the program offering young hero students the chance to travel to other countries to learn how foreign heroes operated. When events were set in motion that thrusted the Helmet of Fate into his possession he found himself staying overseas on a more long term basis until after his graduation.

Yet here Fate stood now ten years later as he emerged from his portal. It threw the man in a loop when the school's principal contacted him personally for a private meeting all those months ago. Certain that someone like Ren Nagasaki was nothing but a mere footnote in comparison to the heroic superstars that had graduated since his brief tenure. Yet instead the head of the school insisted that they get together for some food and discuss a business proposal he had in mind.

Nabu of course had his own opinions on what Doctor Fate SHOULD be doing.

Ren of course had decided on what Doctor Fate WOULD be doing.

"If we are occupied with children, there will be dangers that we cannot address." Nabu chided once again while Doctor Fate walked past the security barrier. "Our duty as a Lord of Order is to ensure the protection of mankind from chaos."

"Yeah and if you haven't noticed mankind isn't churning out spellcasters like it used to." Ren shot back mentally to the Lord of Order's spirit inhabiting the Helmet of Fate. "Trust me on this Nabu, if we prepare the young to defend themselves from magic those skills will be passed along. We're making a long term investment." He said once again trying to push his reasoning onto the ancient magical being that was sharing his powers with the mortal man. "There's no one better than us to get the ball rolling." he added while traversing the short walk towards the entrance to the main building.

"There's someone approaching from behind us. Specifically he's descending from the air like a stone." Nabu said without warning as Ren couldn't help the sigh slipping out from underneath the helmet. Neither spirit nor mortal needed to guess exactly who was traversing in such a way to U.A., the principal did tell Ren of the other newcomer to the staff.

**CRASH!**

"HAHAHAHAHA! I….AM….HERE!" The loud boisterous voice filled with charisma announced after the giant of a man landed on the paved path right behind Fate. Pure chiseled muscle standing over seven feet tall. Slicked back blonde hair with the exception of two prominent pieces sticking upwards like a pair of horns. "And ready for the first meeting before the school year starts!" There was no denying All Might loved to make an entrance, a testament to the No.1 Hero and Symbol of Peace. Whenever that man arrived on the scene; the day was saved and justice prevailed. End of story. That gleaming smile of pristine teeth gave people hope even if it was just on the front of a magazine. Doctor Fate was almost tempted to use the perceptive abilities the Amulet of Anubis possessed to see if it could reveal what All Might's eyes actually looked like underneath that constant shadow his brow casted over them. However there was an immediate question on the doctor's mind.

"Were you expecting someone to be present? Or was that some kind of self motivational speech?"Fate curiously asked as he turned to face All Might.

If All Might had a theme song playing in the background it would have abruptly ended right there.

"Ah! It's my lucky day to meet you first Doctor Fate." The greatest hero in the world said now noticing the magic user standing a short distance away.

"I'm impressed you've heard of me." Fate stated and noticed his question was being deflected.

"Why of course I have lad. I met one of the previous holders of the mantle when I studied in America myself all those years ago." All Might explained eagerly approaching the smaller man and grasping the doctor's hand with his own to shake. That made sense, Ren wasn't exactly the first to wear the helmet. He was currently the seventh host of Nabu and the one most in control of his body. "I can tell you're already a step up from your predecessor." the taller man admitted while leaning in to whisper the shameful truth.

"Steel Maxum?" Both Nabu and Ren sighed together in regards to the fourth host. There was no easy way to bring up, nor describe what was considered the most incompetent man to be given power and duty greater than he was worth possessing. Every day since Maxum's expulsion from the role of Doctor Fate, Nabu has regretted choosing such a foolish man.

"Steel Maxum." All Might confessed before clearing his throat. "Let's not dwell on the past though shall we?" he declared putting an arm around Doctor Fate's shoulder and gesturing to the school before them. "We have a bright future ahead of us!" the hero cheered, leading them inside the main building. "So good doctor what made you decide to come to Japan for a teaching career?" he asked while they walked.

"The opportunity provides me the chance to spend more time in my homeland. I've been grateful to see so many places in the last couple of years, but I can't deny that the job came at a good time as I'm now responsible for raising a child." Fate admitted while noting the No. 1 was still leading him with an arm slung around his shoulder. "Though I am curious as to why the Symbol of Peace is becoming a teacher himself."It was a prevalent question that had bothered both halves of Doctor Fate since they were made aware of All Might's new position alongside them. Teaching children when he could be stopping villains across the nation seemed small in comparison. Like Fate himself, there had to be reasons for accepting the job.

"Don't worry. I'll explain at the meeting with the others. I'm sure they'll want to hear all about it too." There was a slight drop of energy in the larger man's voice while he answered. That made a brow arch underneath the Helmet of Fate as he looked up at All Might in suspicion. There was some motive behind the greatest hero in the world choosing this job and if it made him falter like that? It made Doctor Fate all the more curious. Well if serious questions wouldn't be answered until later, perhaps trivial ones were still on the table.

"I've also been meaning to ask. Why the suit?" Hoping to change the subject he decided to inquire why instead of the iconic Golden Age Suit of red, white, and blue coloring; All Might chose to don a black striped yellow suit. Ren was certain no other man on the face of this planet could pull off a yellow suit and not be taken for a joke.

"You don't like it?" All Might actually sounded hurt and taken back by the question.

"What? No. I mean...I assumed that we should come in our costumes." Fate said, correcting himself. The principal hadn't specified they should be in formal wear, was it some kind of test? A simple prank just to tease the newcomers? Pro Hero Teachers both here and during his time in America still wore their costumes whether they were teaching or saving people. Or was that only in front of the student body?

"Well it is a major meeting with the staff of U.A., I wanted to look my best for my first appearance." Couldn't argue with All Might's logic on the matter. They were in fact newcomers, and the greatest hero in this nation was taking the matter as seriously as he could. It would look poorly on Doctor Fate if he didn't do the same.

"Fair enough. If anyone asks I'm just going to say that you tricked me into it." the doctor decided as he slipped out from underneath All Might's arm and summoned one of his ankhs to step through.

"Trick you into what?" All Might questioned before turning his head to see that Doctor Fate had changed back into Ren's blue suit with yellow dress shirt and black tie; while still wearing the Helmet of Fate as he had during his initial meeting with the Shie Hassaki. "Now that's a trick I wish I could do." he admitted with a jovial smile.

"If you have a couple years to devote yourself solely to the extensive study of magic I can gladly show you." Fate joked back and received a strong smack on the back that made him stumble for several steps. What the heck?! Was that meant to just be a pat?!

"Hahahaha! I like you already." All Might declared as the two men continued to walk together. Admittedly Ren had to take pause from all other thoughts as Doctor Fate casted the larger man a side glance. The stories of this legendary hero were ones Ren heard about when he was still in school. They made All Might out as a god among mortals with his power. It was hard to see that at the end of the day there was a man underneath all of that heroism. One that the current Doctor Fate was definitely starting to enjoy talking to as a regular person. It was rare when someone would approach Fate himself and talk to him like a normal person when he wore the helm.

-UA Staff Conference Room-

"Welcome, welcome back everyone!" There was no way to describe Principal Nezu beyond a one of a kind being in the world. Unlike his subordinates at the school, he was not human but some strange amalgamation of a number of creatures. While dressed in a suit fitting of his nearly three feet of height; his fur was white with a head that was that of a mouse with a large scar over his right eye, his hands were large paw pads similar to a dog's, and a long cat-like tail swayed behind him. He spoke Japanese as fluently as any human in the room, and had an intelligence that could put nearly all to shame.

During his brief time as one of the principal's students Ren never gave Nezu's appearance much thought. Now that he sat at one of the three staff tables organized into the shape of a U as the current Doctor Fate, his mind was pondering how the principal came to be. The current theory was chimera; there were plenty in both scientific and mystical fields that experimented with gene splicing. Failed transfiguration on Nezu's base form was another probable hypothesis. Or Nezu was a homunculus, engineered to preserve some greater intellect beyond death. Perhaps if one were to use the Amulet of Anubis to discern the truth and…

"Do not even think about it." Nabu interrupted over their bond.

"Now as you are all aware, we have new members of the faculty joining us today." Nezu continued on while Ren returned his focus to the principal as he and All Might sat at the end far left end of the conference table. "Please welcome our own No. 1 Hero and the master of magic himself!" Nezu smiled, raising a paw to the pair of heroes who rose from their seats to politely bow.

"Thank you for having us Principal Nezu." All Might replied humbly.

"Agreed, it's an honor to be here." Doctor Fate added as the others present gave them a light round of applause.

"Heard all about your sudden attack on the yakuza yesterday doc." Present Mic, the energetic and boisterous Voice Hero said after the brief round of clapping for the new teachers. Pulling a comb out of his hero costume's jacket pocket to groom his long blond hair that was entirely spiked upwards into a single tuft.

So it begins.

"Attacking that complex on your own was bold." Cementos was the next to speak. The most inhuman of the group as he was humanoid in shape but appeared to be made out of cement. Even All Might casted a knowing glance to Fate. They were already grilling him, trying to get a read on his character. So be it.

"I acted as best I could. I refused to stand idly by when I learned of their cruel schemes." Fate said calmly to the two men, they weren't being hostile but they were curious. Magic users were exotic in this land, they weren't needed when they had the embodiment of heroism that was currently standing next to Doctor Fate.

"All to save that sweet little girl." There was a seductive purr to the voice of Midnight. The sole female with long wavy raven hair was present amongst the men who was also dressed in a dominatrix-like outfit with a skin tight white bodysuit underneath. The sensual glances she was casting the doctor looked like she was about to ask for a safeword. "Is she alright?" she asked.

That question made Fate tense as he looked down briefly.

Physically speaking Eri was in perfect health. Emotionally and mentally was a different subject entirely. Chisaki had tortured her for nearly two months for his selfish pursuits, making her feel as if she was nothing but an abomination in this world that didn't deserve love. Though that monster wasn't the sole source of blame for the girl's condition.

Eri's Quirk erased her father entirely from existence. An accident from the first time her power manifested itself. What was meant to initially be a child happily running up to her dad and hugging him goodbye turned into horror when the horn on her head throbbed and her father fell onto the ground in pain and vanished without a trace. A sight Eri's mother had seen and been so severely scarred from it that she labelled her own daughter as a monster right to her face. By the time Ren had learned of what transpired, his best friend was dead, the mother refused to speak to him, and the child he promised to protect couldn't even smile anymore.

It broke Ren's heart when Eri actually tried using her hands to force her mouth to curve upwards to no avail.

"What matters is she's in the doctor's more than capable hands." All Might declared after noticing Fate's silence and placing a hand on the other man's shoulder. "We can trust that she'll be alright now that- ACK!" What started out as a motivational speech to improve the mood, turned into a sudden fit of coughing that caused a small bit of blood to start spilling out of All Might's mouth. "Oh...no...not now…" he gasped out with steam rolling off his body. The hand originally meant to reassure Fate had now become his pillar of support to remain standing.

"All Might? What's wrong?!" Doctor Fate asked in concern transforming his business suit back into his proper vestments. The Amulet of Anubis started to glow and shine its light upon the No. 1 Hero, attempting to discern what was wrong with the hulking figure of a man. Its power sensed that All Might's physical strength was starting to drop at an alarming rate. Was this the work of an enemy? Poison? Quirk? Spell? Hang on why was the amulet saying All Might's vitals were all wrong?! There was something else, something Fate was having trouble identifying, it felt like...

"Everyone please remain calm." Nezu spoke up next as the rest of the heroes present in the room had already risen from their seats and was about to either approach or seek medical aid for All Might. "This is perfectly normal for him." he revealed.

"Normal? What do you-" Fate's voice was cut off from the sudden blast of smoke from the towering coughing figure holding onto him as it blinded everyone present. Feeling All Might's grip on him lessening dramatically he took some relief when he still heard the occasional cough indicating the hero was breathing. A quick use of magic to clear the air made everyone save for the principal take pause at what they saw.

There wasn't an impeccable wall of muscle holding onto Doctor Fate. Instead it looked as if All Might had deflated into a frail skeletal man. Clothes hanging loosely off of his thin body, and his now shaggy hair covered the entirety of his head while the two prongs that had become synonymous with his appearance hung limply at the sides. Blood continued to seep out of his mouth while his coughing fit began to subside.

"All Might?" Fate asked in pure shock with wide glowing eyes behind his helmet. Few things could surprise the Hero of Order. Concern or disturb him, yes. To actually prompt Ren and in turn Nabu to take pause and ponder in sheer disbelief what they saw? Rare indeed.

"Yeah it's me…" The voice of unstoppable courage and charisma was now subdued as if an actor was now using his real voice, but it was still vaguely recognizable. "Told you, I'd explain when we got here. Better sit back down, it's going to take a bit." All Might laughed weakly.

-Later that Same Day-

"You sure you don't want his autograph?" Ren asked Raven as they stood outside of the changing rooms of a children's clothing store at the local mall. He was trying to keep his cool but his mind was still reeling from what he had learned just hours ago about All Might.

"I'm sure." Raven replied back.

"Come on, not everyday you're awesome magic teacher is offering you a chance for a free All Might autograph." Ren teased while they leaned against the wall with a number of shopping bags next to their feet.

"Awesome is subjective." Raven retorted sarcastically with a roll of her eyes.

"You can always hold onto it for a while and then sell it. You could make a lot of money that way." Ren said, not even acting phased by Raven's denial of his status as her teacher.

"Maybe we should talk about something else. Like how did the actual meeting go?" Raven asked after an annoyed sigh left her lips.

"As boring as you'd think." Ren said without pause to avoid bringing suspicion to the concerning revelations he did in fact learn. He wanted to discuss it in great detail with his apprentice, but Nezu made the entire staff swear not to discuss All Might's condition. It was critical that none learned of the Symbol of Peace's waning ability to maintain his strength for the time being. "The entrance exam is a month away and I'm going to be required to attend that day to assess the participants." He explained making the girl look at him with an arched brow.

"You think anyone taking the test will have….?"

"No I don't honestly." Ren finished, the pair had spent years together to the point it was second nature to know what they were thinking at times. "You and I will literally be the only magic users there." That tidbit of information was what he was able to deduce at the staff meeting earlier that day. "The faculty is nice enough, but be careful around the other may not know how to react to people like us " He warned while crossing his arms. Every year less and less reports of confirmed magic users were seen across the entire globe. Even fewer were attempting to use it to become Pro Heroes like the young woman next to him. Back in the United States, it was common to see the few that were aspiring heroes to be at Titans. Even if they weren't exactly among Raven's even smaller circle of friends she had before they left for Japan.

"Great." Raven said with a shake of her head as she turned her gaze back to the store and its shoppers. The girl wouldn't deny she wasn't exactly looking forward to starting a new school for her senior year. She knew little of the land, or how its educational system worked here. Ren tried to provide her details where he could, but it was going to be a disorienting experience regardless. Still, this was her choice. She chose to come here when Ren informed her of what he had to do, and Raven wasn't one to back down.

"Uh...I'm coming out." Eri's shy voice said as the door to the changing room slowly opened. After her release from the hospital, both master and apprentice agreed that Eri needed new clothes after Ren had seen the dirty gray dress Chisaki made her wear. It had taken patience and effort but they eventually found an ensemble of clothes Eri admitted she liked. Now wearing the red pinafore, black tights, and white dress shirt picked out she nervously gripped at the outer garment's hem. Her eyes still downcast and embarrassed to look up at her elders.

"You look adorable Eri." Ren said encouragingly before lightly elbowing Raven in the ribs when she remained silent.

"Yeah. Cute." Raven managed to say while trying to sound legitimate. After a lifetime of restraining her emotions and dressing in dark blue to black it was hard to see the world any other way. She may have agreed to transfer to U.A., but getting into one of those uniforms? That was going to be one of the hardest challenges in her life.

"Red is definitely your color." Ren said kneeling down to the six year old's height.

"It is?" Eri asked softly, looking up at her godfather who smiled.

"Yeah, are you ready to go see the tower?" He asked while stretching his hand out to her.

"Ok. I think so." Eri said meekly while taking his hand with her smaller one. While Ren hefted up the shopping bags filled with additional clothes and other supplies for the child as he led her out of the store with Raven following next to them. "Is...is the tower scary?" She asked after a moment of hesitance.

While she was still in the hospital Ren had explained his status as a magic hero known to the world as Doctor Fate. Keeping the details simple and not going into more excessive descriptions that included Nabu or his fellow Lords of Order that safeguarded the world from chaos. Eri was still only a child, more elaborate explanations could wait when she was older. Among the information he did share however was the Tower of Fate.

Originally a simple brick and mortar tower in Salem, Massachusetts dating back to possibly before Columbus sailed to America. The first Doctor Fate and Nabu used their remarkable powers to convert it into their base of operations and a haven for themselves and every successor to the mantle since. A perfect place for the Helmet of Fate to remain when it wasn't being used and serving as the repository for all of the magical artifacts and spell tomes every Fate had possessed. With Ren's permanent relocation to Japan he had undergone great lengths to prepare the necessary spells to move his home from its point of origin to the city of Muustafu where U.A. was located.

Not out of need for himself thanks to Nabu granting him the power of teleportation, but for Eri's sake. Under All Might's protection Japan's crime rates were barely at two percent, a sharp difference to the second lowest rate of twenty percent elsewhere in the world. With the Shie Hassaki incarcerated there was no one that would pursue his ward. She needed a safe environment to grow away from villains and criminals. With his own experiences across the globe in defeating evil, Ren knew there wasn't going to be a safer city than the one with a Hero School settled atop the hill overlooking the metropolis.

With the addition the only ones that could enter the Tower of Fate were those that had the current doctor's permission.

That still did little to settle Eri's nerves even as the taxi arrived in front of the tall structure settled in the vacant grass lot a few city blocks away from the school. Purchased by Ren so he had a legally owned place to place the tower without complaint from the city. The tower itself easily dwarfed the two buildings next to it in height but was noticeably more narrow. With no visible windows or doors to be seen as she was led towards it.

"How do we get in?" Eri asked curiously looking up at Ren in confusion with her big innocent eyes.

"There's an enchantment on the tower little one. It hides the entrance way and only allows certain things and people to pass through." Ren explained before nodding to Raven and then the tower as a silent gesture. Without a response the teenage girl walked towards the wall and phased straight through it like a ghost. "See? Easy." He chuckled before looking down at the still uncertain expression his goddaughter had.

"We just walk through the wall? We won't get stuck?" Eri asked apprehensive while still looking at the spot Raven had been just a moment ago. Her free hand gripping the fabric of her outfit nervously again.

"Hasn't happened once since I started living here." Ren said, leading her to stand in front of its surface. "On the count of three we'll both go in together ok?" he said to reassure Eri while she closed her eyes tight to muster her courage.

"One."

Deep breaths. Ren said it would let her pass through. He promised to not hurt her.

"Two."

What if some kind of scary magic attacked her by accident? Or what if this was all one long dream and she was about to wake up back in Chisaki's terrible clutches?!

"Three!"

The feeling of impact never came as Eri stepped forward. Instead the cold January air was replaced with warmth. The sounds of the city had vanished. A single red eye opened to see they were now inside a stone room. A crackling fireplace sitting on the opposite side of the room with ascending stone stairways on both sides of the crackling hearth. Shoes neatly lined up at the entrance point that was just an arching threshold against the wall. While several coat hooks line the surface above the footwear.

Eri's examination of the room was put on hold however as the air in front of them began to ripple with light before an apparition of an elderly cacuasian man in a grey suit appeared. Something that made the small child cower behind Ren for protection.

"Welcome back to the Tower of Fate; Ren." The ghost spoke in a neutral tone of voice. "The tower however has detected a new presence with you. Who is here?" The ghost asked like it was a robot.

While all Eri could think was how this spirit was going to hurt her.

"It's ok little one." Ren said softly to the girl. "This is just a magic projection of Kent Nelson. The first Doctor Fate. He's like the speaker for the tower's security spells" he said as she peeked out from behind him to watch the scene transpire. "Kent this is my goddaughter Eri she's going to be living with Raven and I from now on." he stated firmly to the motionless magical image of the elderly man.

"Very well. Welcome to the Tower of Fate, Eri. Make yourself comfortable." Kent said before his projection ceased, leaving the two alone in the entrance room.

"Come on, you're gonna like your room." Ren smiled, turning to kneel down and look at Eri who blinked at him curiously. "Just be careful, the tower is a lot bigger inside." he said taking her hand again and leading her up the stairs.

Big was an understatement.

Eri was in complete awe at the complexity of the Tower of Fate.

Windows that didn't exist on the outside, but on the inside showed the sun setting upon the city. Pictures that moved within their frames as if they were scenes playing out on loop. Appliances vacuumed, dusted, and wiped surfaces all on their own as if they were alive. Was this what magic could do? Was this why this mysterious man who suddenly appeared to rescue her spoke about it in such high regards?

The tower was foreign to her in its entirety, but it felt warm and welcoming. Mysterious yet inviting. Even the room presented as her own didn't feel like the one that she was locked in just two nights ago by her cruel captor. Stonework like the rest of the tower, with three large windows, a bed, child size desk with drawing supplies, a bookshelf with children novels, a tv off in the corner with a beanbag chair, and finally a wardrobe with a matching dresser where Ren was hanging up her new clothes.

"I know there's not much right now…" Ren said while sorting the last of the articles. "..but whatever you need I'm gonna get you. All you gotta do is ask" he said, turning to look at the girl as she sat atop of the bed with her knees brought up to her chest. "Dinner is in an hour and there is a bathroom right outside your room, the first door on the left." he explained while sitting down next to her on the bed.

"Thank you." Eri replied softly without making eye contact. That sadness was still present in her voice, and it killed Ren just hearing it. He wanted nothing more than to see this child just smile in happiness again. Free from the lingering shadows Kai Chisaki casted upon this innocent little girl. Whatever it took to help her recover, Ren was willing to go to the ends of the universe itself. Yet there was no way to just be over something like what had happened to Eri in less than a day.

"That door only locks from in here. You can look around the whole place." Ren pointed out nodding towards the wooden door. "I know this is…different. Really different. But sometimes different can be a good thing. Not all change is bad. Here you can rest, play, and do whatever you want." he said softly to her and only received silence in response. "I'll come get you when it's time for dinner ok?" a small nod was all the response he got. With a gentle pat on her head, he rose and took his leave from her. Taking pause at the threshold to look back at her for the briefest of moments before leaving.

No matter what Ren had to do.

Eri will smile again.

That he swore.

Alright, time for reviews! I like to answer all new reviews at the end of each chapter so feel free to voice your thoughts! Feedback is appreciated as this story is for you as much as it is for me.

Juan Sotomayor: I hope my words at the start of the chapter helped. You are definitely right though concerning comic book Doctor Fate. There would be no serious threat to Ren or the protagonists if he had that kind of power. Scaling him down to animated series levels of strength like it's constantly done with Superman is the only way I can tell a story where he's the protagonist. I do have the benefit of making him a teacher so he will not derail the canon events and growth of 1A too much as their teachers outside of Aizawa aren't heavily involved in their events.

Shaggyzoinks: Thank you so much! It was honestly 'in the moment' idea to include Raven in this story. I'm really glad I did though because this will allow Fate someone to bounce magic talk off of with. Plus she'll be in the same year as U.A.'s Big 3. So expect some interesting situations with her getting roped into their antics like the Sports Festival.

HyenaMan: Wish granted! Hope you enjoyed it. You rarely see stories where the crossover character is a teacher instead of a student. A few more are starting to appear though and it excites me to see the world from a different perspective. Hope this will be just as entertaining to you!
