Erik was furious. How could this man who claimed that he loved Christine do such a thing to her? He punched Raoul to the ground. "How could you?" Erik cried. He felt every ounce of rage he had in him expose itself as he began hitting Raoul as hard as he could until he finally collapsed from the pain of his own wounds.
He spoke through clenched teeth, turning to face Raoul. "Y-You said you loved her," Erik growled. "And yet... you put her through hell j-just to make sure she would stay with you. You are s-so selfish." He managed to get out, unable to control his breathing.
Raoul coughed, struggling to breathe due to the damage Erik had caused. "I d-do love her." He coughed out. "More than a Demon like you could ever be capable of. I am her husband! D-Does your description of these events no...not sound familiar to you?"
"ENOUGH!" Erik yelled, regaining some strength. "I am not the one who tried to have her killed!"
"Neither am I!" Raoul screamed back. "I was trying to kill you so she would come back to me! She belongs with me! What kind of life could a murderous monster such as yourself possibly provide for her?!
"A better life than you could!" Erik yelled in response. "I am not the monster and you know it!" He lunged forward, wrapping his hands around Raoul's neck.
Just as his pale skin began turning blue, Nadir came rushing in. He tried to pull Erik off, but Erik's rage made him strong enough to push him off. Nadir tried once again to pry his fingers from around the young Viscount's neck and was successful. He pulled a thrashing Erik away and pushed him into the wall with all the force he could without causing any permanent damage.
"Erik! Erik, you need to calm down. The doctors will be in here any minute and if they see you attacking Raoul, they will call the police. He is still her husband. He has a right to be here." He said calmly.
"Don't you DARE call him that, Daroga. He doesn't deserve such a title." Erik spat back at him. Nadir moved him back into his wheelchair and began rolling him back to his room. Erik stopped abruptly, grabbed Raoul's throat who was still laying on the hospital floor, and venomously spoke through clenched teeth.
"Monsieur Viscount, I believe we still had a deal. You were to be long gone by now. I suggest you leave. Right now."
Raoul coughed as Erik threw his head back into the ground.
Nadir quickly pushed him back to his room down the hall.
Raoul stood slowly, coughing up some blood onto the floor. He wiped his mouth and walked over to Christine's bed. "Please come back to me. I'm sorry. I promise I'll do better..."
Nadir helped Erik into his bed. "What was that all about Erik? You know you can't be acting like this. Not with your injuries. Look, you've opened your stitches again. Wait here. I have to get the doctor." He rushed out to find someone to help. As soon as the doctor came in, he began stitching him up.
Erik clenched his teeth in pain. Nadir stood back and watched as his wounds were sewn closed. When the doctor was done, Erik let out the breath he had been holding, grunting in pain. "D-Daroga… he did it. It was a-all him…" He spoke frantically. Nadir looked at him with confused eyes. "All his fault? What do you mean? What all is his fault?"
Just then, Madame Giry walked in and stood in the doorway with Gustave hiding behind her. She smiled as she saw Nadir standing at Erik's bedside. "Nadir, old friend! How have you been?" He smiled back at her as he pulled her in for a hug. "Antoinette! I have been doing as well as I can. And yourself? How is Meg?"
"We have been better for sure. Meg just went in to see Christine. I don't want Gustave to see her in that state just yet. He is just a boy. No boy should see their mother like that." Nadir shook his head in agreement. "I'll take him out and entertain him while you visit Erik. Erik, would you like to see Gustave for a minute?"
Erik thought for a moment before shaking his head, looking at Gustave who was still hiding. He spoke in a quiet, calming voice. "Gustave, my boy. I-I am sorry to hear about your mother. I know you and I have not been able to become close, but I assure you that I am here for you. Whatever it is that you need. I am here."
Gustave gave a confused look to Madame Giry before quietly mewing a small "Thank you."
"Alright, Gustave. Please follow Monsieur Khan. He will take you into the waiting room to wait for your mother." Madame Giry said as she guided him towards Nadir. Nadir smiled at him and held his hand as he led him out the door.
"Hello, Gustave! Do you like chess? Perhaps we could play a game or two?" He said as they walked down the hall.
Madame Giry smiled as she watched them leave. "Your son is very bright, Erik. He is already so much like you."
Erik chuckled, feeling his lungs burn a little from the action. Madame Giry's face became serious. "How are you, Erik?" She asked with concern. Erik groaned as he tried to sit up. "I've been b-better. I feel as though I have been trampled by a horse."
"Yes. I heard about the beating you took. What on Earth was happening out there?" Madame Giry questioned. Erik sighed and spoke softly. "A man I used to know back in Persia came here in search of me. He found Christine and decided to use her against me. I later found out that Raoul paid him to hurt me, but instead he ended up hurting Christine. I cannot believe this man. How could he do such a thing? How could he harm his own wife? My Christine!"
"How do you know this is true?" Giry asked. "He told me himself. He was in Christine's room and when I overheard him say it was all his fault. When I questioned him about it, he said he never meant to hurt her and it was all meant for me. He deserves to be arrested! Hashem is still out there. He could come back for us anytime. We need to keep a close eye on Gustave. I don't trust Raoul or Hashem. Hashem is an especially dangerous man. Please be careful."
"Would he be able to continue to stay with you until we locate Hashem and take care of Raoul? Please, Antoinette. I'm begging you. I need to know he is safe. I know Raoul seems remorseful now, but something in me tells me not to trust him." Erik begged.
"Of course, Erik. You know you have always been like a son to me. I will gladly look after your child." Giry responded with a soft smile gracing her face.
Suddenly, there was a high pitched scream.
Erik immediately attempted to stand and fell into his wheelchair. He was just about to move to the door when an out of breath Meg came running into the room. "Erik! Erik!" Madame Giry turned quickly to the sound of her daughter's voice. "Meg, what is it? Are you alright?"
"Meg! What is wrong? Spit it out, girl!" Erik yelled at her.
"Erik... I-it's Chris-Christine."
