6The 74th Hunger Games
Seneca Crane returned for his third year as Head Gamemaker. He designed an arena that was mostly forest but had a large wheat field and a lake. The arena also included: streams, caves, rocky slopes, hills, and rock pools. The mutts this year were wolf-like creatures and tracker-jackers. There were also traps that included inescapable pits, floods, fireball launchers and a ginormous wall of fire.
The Career Pack this year was only five members, the District 1 Male was the stereotypical nice, tough guy and was a dream with a spear. The District 1 Female was the weakest Career that year, she was also a very stereotypical Career, her specialised weapon was the bow and arrow. The District 2 Pair were the strongest tributes that year. The male was the leader of the pack, he was at his best with a sword, but could really use anything with a sharp blade. The female was the youngest Career that year, she used throwing knives. The District 4 Male wasn't in the Career Pack that year, the chosen volunteer pulled two muscles in his arm and fractured a bone two days before the Reaping, and was deemed unfit for the games, they couldn't find a replacement fast enough, and ended up with a barely trained twelve-year-old. The District 4 Female was quiet and always seemed to be daydreaming, she was great with a trident, but could also use a knife pretty well. The Career's scores were average, with two tens, two nines and one eight.
Other alliances included: the females from District 7 and District 8; they had gotten on well in training and worked together as a decent duo, the other alliance was between the District 8 male, the District 11 female and the District 12 Female. The highest score was joint between the two tributes from District 2, who both scored a 10. The highest scoring outliers were the District 7 female and the District 11 male, who both scored fantastic nines.

The Arena
The tributes rose onto their pedestals and found themselves in a clearing at the edge of a forest, there was a wheat field to the west and the tributes could just about make out a clearing to the south of the cornucopia. The sky was blue with hardly any clouds and the ground was made of hard-packed dirt.
The gong sounded and 23 tributes rushed towards the cornucopia, the tribute that backed away was Rue, and even she just went to the edge of the clearing to wait for her allies.
Marvel grabbed a kruki that was about 20 feet from his pedestal and stabbed a boy that was three pedestals to the right of him, killing him instantly.
24th- Mat Olivia (8) killed by Marvel (1) – Bloodbath
Clove was the first to reach the Cornucopia and grabbed a belt of throwing knives and launched two at a nearby girl who was running towards a nearby crate, they hit her stomach and she died seconds later.
23rd- Sue Trackers (10) killed by Clove (2) – Bloodbath
More tributes arrived at the Cornucopia and the District 5 male, Battery grabbed a sickle that was under some blankets and slashed it across a passing girl's forehead, she bled out a few seconds later.
22nd- Amber Sengi (3) killed by Battery (5) – Bloodbath
Glimmer chased after the District 6 Girl, Tamora. Tamora desperately started throwing bags, weapons, food and anything else she could find at Glimmer, but in the end, Glimmer managed to stab her with a knife. After that, Glimmer went off in search of other victims whilst Tamora bled to death.
21st- Tamora Samson (6) killed by Glimmer (1) – Bloodbath
Cheris was shocked when she found her dead ally, Mat, dead on the floor ,so she grabbed two backpacks, a sword and three knives for herself and her remaining ally and bolted out of the clearing.
Clove now aimed at other tributes with low scores, Mat was already dead, and Finch and Savannah were nowhere to be seen so she went for the next best thing, the District 12 boy. She found him battling with the District 7 girl for a backpack, he was an easy target being occupied and after Clove flung a few knives at him he died without even realising it.
20th- Dusty Parson (12) killed by Clove (2) – Bloodbath
Barky from District 7 was doing pretty successful until he decided to challenge Thresh to a duel. Thresh had a very long crescent sword whilst Barky only had a short sword. Thresh easily kicked Barky to the ground and slashed the crescent sword across his neck, killing Barky.
19th- Barky Pastel (7) killed by Thresh (11) – Bloodbath
Graser searched around the Cornucopia for her ally, Savannah, they said they would meet south of the Cornucopia, but she was nowhere to be seen. Eventually, Graser spotted her lost ally under a pile of blankets and medical equipment. Graser creeped over to she so she wasn't seen by the Careers. When Graser lifted everything off of Savannah she found out that there was a massive cut across Savannah's left leg. Graser grabbed a pack of the medical equipment and ran off, dragging Savannah along with her.
Marvel went in for his next kill on the District 9 pair that where gathering supplies in the same general area. Marvel charged at them and hurled a spear at each of them. One spear hit Demetria in a vital spot, killing her, but the other spear missed Grey completely.
18th- Demetria Collins (9) killed by Marvel (1) – Bloodbath
After almost getting killed, Grey ran off into the forest with only a half full water bottle and a backpack.
Glimmer found her second victim when she saw the District 5 boy running past. She picked up a rope and threw it at him, it didn't wrap around his legs like she thought but a knot at the end of the rope hit him on the top of the head and knocked him out, from there Glimmer stabbed him with a sword and that was the end of Battery.
17th- Battery Hollows (5) killed by Glimmer (1) – Bloodbath
Marina panicked, practically every other Career was stronger than her and had more kills than her, she didn't even have one! She knew she was going to get picked off first when the Careers split up, so she decided to bolt away from the Cornucopia and into the forest with only a backpack and a knife.
Jason wanted to kill a Career, that would get him sponsors for sure, the District 1 girl seemed the weakest, so he crept up on her and pounced, knocking her to the ground he was about to kill her with his sword when he got headbutted away, Cato had seen what he was doing and he wasn't about to get the Career number even smaller than it already was. Cato slashed Jason across the chest with a scythe and then slashed it again and again, eventually killing him.
16th- Jason Garinson (6) killed by Cato (2) – Bloodbath
With all of the other tributes gone other than the Careers, Max thought it was clear to go out of his hiding spot in the back of the Cornucopia and run for the clearing, little did he know, Cato was right outside the Cornucopia entrance. When Max made a run for it Cato saw him, and finished Max off with a machete.
15th- Max Surfglove (4) killed by Cato (2) – Bloodbath
When the Bloodbath officially ended, ten cannons went off. Clove and Cato went off in search of stragglers whilst Marvel and Glimmer put the dead tributes into a pile to be collected by hovercraft and organised the supplies.
Whilst hunting for tributes, Cato found and killed his former ally, Marina, when he heard rustling from a nearby bush and shot an arrow at it, he didn't even bother to check the body after the cannon went off.
14th- Marina Lincoln (4) killed by Cato (2) – Day 1
There were no more deaths on Day 1. As night fell everyone found a place to stay. Chase had dug out a small trench and slept in that, Finch found shelter on the branch of a tall oak tree, Graser and Savannah slept within a clearing with thick bushes around it; Savannah wanted to make a campfire to keep warm but Graser decided against it until they moved further away, Grey slept within the wheat field with the tallest wheat to keep cover, Tucker had followed the alliance of Rue and Cheris but he eventually got lost and he decided to rest on the top of a hill, Thresh slept in the wheat field, in a close area to were Grey slept, watchers from the Capitol were excited to see a fight between the two, Rue and Cheris were both natural tree climbers, so they slept on the branches near the top of a large oak tree, branches most other tributes would be far too heavy to climb up to.
On the early hours of Day 2, the hill Tucker was on cracked open and he started rolling towards the huge gap that led to 50 feet of nothing then a hard, stone floor, if he fell, it would kill him instantly. Luckily, he woke up just before he fell, and he managed to grab onto the edge before he was completely down. He was holding onto the edge with his hands and everything else from his neck down was dangling over the ravine. Suddenly, the part he was holding onto broke off of the hill and Tucker tumbled to the bottom of the ravine.
13th- Tucker Charleston (10) killed by Ravine – Day 2
Tucker's death woke most people up, so the Careers went hunting, leaving Glimmer to guard the Cornucopia for the day.
Chase was sponsored a shovel, so he could dig his trenches more efficiently, he started making trenches that would trap animals in and he even got moss and covered it over the trench he called his bed. Cheris and Rue mostly just lounged around for the day, as did Grey. Graser and Savannah moved further north to avoid getting a run in with the Careers, Finch pulled a dozen ropes and a bent iron rod out of her backpack and started climbing up trees and tying the ropes to them, nobody quite understood what she was doing with the ropes at first, but it became clearer later on. Thresh started marking his territory by cutting the wheat within 100 feet of him with a sickle, anyone who crossed it he would be happy to kill.
In the evening, the Careers came back from hunting unsuccessful and they just decided to settle down for the night.
The closest encounter one tribute got with another was when Finch passed by Chase's trenches whilst she was searching for berries to eat.
The morning of Day 3 was generally quiet. The Careers went hunting in the wheat field, leaving Marvel to guard the Cornucopia. At about noon, Clove, Cato and Glimmer spotted Grey eating a ham sandwich he was sponsored. When they saw him, they practically trampled each other to death to kill him first. Clove tumbled over halfway there and that's when Grey found out he was being chased by the Careers, he stood up and tried to run, but Cato and Glimmer had already plunged their swords into his torso.
12th- Grey Micah (9) killed by Cato (2) and Glimmer (1) – Day 3
Then Clove called the two over as she had spotted something strange. She saw grass that had been cut in a circle shape about 80 feet away from where she fell over. The three cautiously walked towards the cut grass. The second Glimmer walked past the line Thresh jumped out of nowhere and stabbed her in the chest with a sword.
11th- Glimmer Tomago (1) killed by Thresh (11) – Day 3
After that, Clove and Cato backed away, then started running, then Clove tripped on a stump and sprained her ankle. So Cato helped her back to the Cornucopia where she could rest for a while.
The cut in Savannah's leg wasn't getting any better with the medical equipment they got from the Cornucopia, Savannah and Graser both knew that they would need a sponsored medical kit to fix the cut, and to get sponsors they would have to do something impressive, so Graser went off hunting to try and get sponsors.
Finch continued to tie the ropes to the trees, it seemed like she would be done on Day 4.
Day 4 was deathless, Seneca Crane decided to make it lightly rain, which would get heavier and heavier as time went on, he made it that way because the Cornucopia was the highest part of the arena, so it would force tributes inwards. Graser and Savannah were the first to experience the rain, they didn't think much of it since it was really light rain, most other tributes had the same reaction, but Chase didn't even notice as he was inside the moss-covered part of his trench. The Careers had another day of unsuccessful hunting, with Clove keeping guard this time. Finch finally finished her creation which was a complex zipline which you could go both up and down on due to a series of pullies and the bent iron bar was used as a trolley.
Many tributes woke up on Day 5 completely soaked and some tributes that were near the edge might have even been partially submerged in water. That's when most tributes realised that the Gamemakers wanted them to go to higher ground. The Careers didn't bother going hunting because the rain was so bad, instead, they put tarpaulin over the mouth of the Cornucopia to avoid getting soaked. Thresh moved out of his wheat area as it had gotten extremely muddy and was just basically being out in the open.
By Day 6 only 50% of the arena was inhabitable. Early in the morning, water started pouring into Chase's trenches, by the time Chase woke up the trench he was in was nearly full and he couldn't get out in time to reach fresh air.
10th- Chase Pomagrade (3) killed by Flash Flood – Day 6
Later in the day, Marvel decided to check the surroundings outside of the Cornucopia, but then a massive gush of water came out of nowhere and swept him into a cave already mostly full of water. Marvel hit his head on a stalactite and was knocked unconscious as the water around him began to turn red. His cannon shot a few minutes later.
9th- Marvel Trippella (1) killed by Flash Flood – Day 6
That left the final eight: Cato Hadley and Clove Kentwell from District 2, Finch Crossly from District 5, Graser Celesti from District 7, Savannah Origin from District 8, Thresh Freide and Rue Willowson from District 11 and Cheris Moorson from District 12.
The rain continued until 1pm on Day 7 where it finally stopped, the arena had now shrunk to 4 miles by 4 miles, but no tributes that weren't teamed with each other encountered each other for Day 7 or Day 8. So, at noon on Day 9 a feast was declared. The remaining Careers waited at the edge of the Cornucopia clearing for the bags to appear and then grabbed the 'District 2' bag and hid inside of the Cornucopia for the other tributes to arrive. The other six all seemed to appear at once, so the Careers had to chase after the tributes to kill them before they were all gone. Rue and Cheris grabbed the 'District 11' and 'District 12' bags and began running back towards the forest. Clove flung knives at both of them, two hit Rue in the chest and one hit Cheris in the arm. Rue dropped to the floor dead, whilst Cheris only screamed in pain as she disappeared into the forest.
8th- Rue Willowson (11) killed by Clove (2) – The Feast
Then Thresh, Graser, Savannah and Finch all ran into the clearing from different directions. Thresh pulled the 'District 11' bag off of Rue's back and ran back into the forest. As Savannah and Graser reached the Cornucopia to grab the bags for District 7 and 8 when Cato came and stabbed Savannah in the chest.
7th- Savannah Origin (8) killed by Cato (2) – The Feast
Graser grabbed the 'District 7' bag and ran into the forest, whilst all of the craziness was happening Finch had somehow grabbed her bag and ran off into the forest without anyone realising.
There were no other deaths on Day 9, Day 10 or Day 11. The only interaction tributes had in that time period was when Graser and Cheris ran into each other, it only lasted a few minutes as they traded a few items with each other and then went their ways.
On Day 12, Seneca Crane decided that it was time for The Finale and set off some Wolf Mutts to chase after the tributes and eventually bring them to the Cornucopia once more. Only five of the six tributes made it to the Cornucopia, as Cheris tripped over an exposed tree root and got eaten by the mutts.
6th- Cheris Moorson (12) killed by Wolf Mutts – Day 12
The five remaining tributes climbed on top of the Cornucopia, as it was virtually the only place the mutts could not get them. Clove and Cato decided to kill off the outliers first, so Clove went after Graser and Cato went after Thresh. Clove easily took out Graser with knives, but Cato needed assistance to kill off Thresh.
5th- Graser Celesti (7) killed by Clove (2) – Day 12
4th- Thresh Freide (11) killed by Cato H and Clove (2) – Day 12
Then Clove and Cato had a showdown, Clove made the first move and stabbed Cato in the leg with a knife, then Cato thrust a sword into Clove's chest ultimately killing her.
3rd- Clove Kentwell (2) killed by Cato (2) – Day 12
Then Finch made her move. She pulled a knife out of Graser's corpse and plunged it into Cato's upper chest, when Cato went limp, she kicked him into the horde of mutts surrounding them.
2nd- Cato Hadley (2) killed by Finch (5) – Day 12
The voice of Seneca Crane boomed through the arena; "Finch Crossly of District 5, you are the Victor of the Annual 74th Hunger Games!"

Finch married age 21 and had three children in her lifetime. She drank scarcely and died of old age around the time of the one-hundred-and-forty-first Hunger Games from natural causes.
On Finch's Victory Tour she was liked in most districts other than District 2, where she was ignored her entire time there.
