The 79th Hunger Games

Four more unknown deaths occurred between the 78th and 79th games, the first was another of President Snow's friends, being killed in their private hotel room, having a number 4 painted in his blood. The next was famous actor, Coquis Maserta, who was killed backstage before a show, he had a 5 painted on his wall. Three months before the reaping, the Head Peacekeeper of District 5, Kaeso Gallus, was also killed, this time when he was walking through an alleyway in District 5 alone, having a 6 painted on the alleyway wall. Less than a week before the reaping, another extremely important Capitolite died, Claudius Templesmith, he was killed in his bathroom, a number 7 being painted onto his shower curtain. Again, there were no traces of fingerprints or weapons. The Capitol had to rush to find a new announcer, eventually finding a young man named Tethys Faustus to take Claudius' place.

Allor made an amazing arena this year, with quite possibly the most advanced mutts in the first century-and-a-half. The arena was based around an Aztec civilization. The cornucopia was based at the top of the only Aztec pyramid in the arena, north and west of the pyramid were a dense jungle-ish forest full of bright plants and trees. To the east of the pyramid was an Aztec village with seventy-five or so houses bunched together, the houses were made out of wood and straw for the roofs. To the south of the Cornucopia was a lake, the only source of water in the entire arena. The entire arena seemed way more vibrant that most of them from the other games. There were three types of mutts in the arena this year, which made many Capitolites excited as this was the first time there were mutts in one of Allor's arena. The pyramid itself was thirty metres high, having a flat surface for the Cornucopia and the pedestals, it was made out of solid, grey rock and was crumbling slightly. The first mutt was the only one of its kind in the arena, it was a huge wolf mutt, with eight legs and two tails, it could rip anything apart that entered its path. The second type of mutt looked similar to the size of the eight-legged one, but only having four legs, one tail and were the normal size of wolves. The third mutts where had single-handedly taken three years to perfect, and had many different failed attempts at making them, they were mutts that looked and acted exactly like Aztecs, but could act like any human, they understood other humans and could have normal conversations.

The Career Pack was slightly stronger than last year, the boy from District 1 was an in-it-for-the-honour Career, he was stellar with a guandao and would do anything for his alliance. The girl from 1 was one of the stronger Careers that year, she was remembered for her feisty personality and specialised in sickles. The District 2 bunch were pretty strong this year, but less and less people began betting on them, as their curse was now well established across Panem. The District 2 Male was the leader of the Pack that year, he was the strongest Career and was great with a sword. The District 2 Female was on the weaker side of the Careers this year, but she was still amazing with shurikens. The District 4 Male was the weakest Career this year and he was also the youngest he was a stereotypical fisher boy from District 4 and his weapon of choice was, like most District 4 trainees, a trident. The District 4 Female was another strong career, she was liked by the Capitol for being so smart with her words, she preferred to use a bow-and-arrow.

There wasn't an Anti-Career alliance this year, even though there were quite a few strong outliers. The strongest scoring outliers were Kasha from 9 and Attica from 11, who both scored sevens and Aria from 6 and Phiadros from 9, who both scored sixes.

The Arena

The twenty-four tributes rose up into the arena, many of them amazed by the arena. The timer ticked down to twelve when Erik stumbled and fell off of his pedestal, exploded by the landmines.

24th- Erik Ostergaard (District 7 Male) killed by Landmines – Pre-Bloodbath

The two tributes next to Erik, Kasha and Keylor, stood horrified, covered in his skin and flesh, as the gong rang.

As the gong rang twenty-two tributes ran into the fray, Phiadros from 9 and Trisha from 10 were the only tributes to run away without trying to gather supplies.

Djoser was the first to the Cornucopia, he picked up a sword and charged towards a small girl zigzagging towards the Cornucopia. He plunged his sword into her neck, she ran out of breath just under a minute later.

23rd- Venicura Jurgenson (District 8 Female) killed by Djoser (2) – Bloodbath

Kamchatka had grabbed a knife that was lying halfway between the pedestals and the Cornucopia and plunged in into the back of a girl's head, killing her before she hit the floor.

22nd- Hellan Lapidus (District 12 Female) killed by Kamchatka (4) – Bloodbath

Kasha was still standing frozen on her pedestal, disgusted by Erik's remains. Porcelain-China saw this, and stabbed Kasha through the chest with a sickle she had gotten from a crate, before drop-kicking Kasha down the pyramid steps.

21st- Kasha Cowe Yzaguirrre (District 9 Female) killed by Porcelain-China (1) – Bloodbath

Silicon and Kenya both got to the Cornucopia within seconds of each other. Silicon grabbed a guandao and turned around, only for a small boy to run right into him. Silicon grinned and stabbed the guandao through the boy's head, the boy died in a matter of seconds, ending District 8's chances at victory.

20th- Alix Enck (District 8 Male) killed by Silicon (1) – Bloodbath

Djoser pulled his sword out of Venicura and ran over to a boy filling his backpack with various items. Djoser stabbed the poor boy, pulled the sword out of him, then stabbed his frail body again, ultimately ending his life.

19th- Noel Wadhwani (District 11 Male) killed by Djoser (2) – Bloodbath

Submar had grabbed a trident from a crate and flung it at a tall girl running towards the Cornucopia, it hit her right in the neck and shoulders. She died of drowning in her own blood.

18th- Planka Erlew (District 7 Female) killed by Submar (4) – Bloodbath

Kenya was the only Career to not have a kill, so she grabbed some shurikens and flung them at the nearest girl, one missed, but the other hit her in the side. The girl stayed standing, she picked up a knife and got Kenya in a headlock, Kenya screamed for help, but the girl, Attica, silenced her by slitting her throat.

17th- Kenya Cdebaca (District 2 Female) killed by Attica (11) – Bloodbath

Porcelain-China went for her second kill, she saw a young boy running down the steps, carrying a lotof items. She grabbed her sickle and plunged it into the boy's neck from behind, he toppled over, hitting the hard, stone, steps.

16th- Boule Eavenson (District 10 Male) killed by Porcelain-China (1) – Bloodbath

Kamchatka went in for her next kill, there was a girl rummaging through a box of supplies inside of the Cornucopia. Kamchatka grabbed a bow and arrow and fired an arrow right into the girl's shoulder, which made her scream. Kamchatka nocked another arrow and fired it again, this time hitting her directly in the head, killing her before she hit the floor.

15th- Nar Abatengelo (District 5 Female) killed by Kamchatka (4) – Bloodbath

Aran was eager to get a kill, then he would get sponsors and be able to follow through with his plan to win the Games. He ran towards a boy who was grabbing items from a crate and didn't really take notice of Aran, as he wasn't a Career. Aran pulled a knife out and began stabbing the boy all over in the back, before stabbing him in the head, making that the penultimate death of the Bloodbath.

14th- Keylor Kajiwara (District 3 Male) killed by Aran (5) – Bloodbath

The final kill of the Bloodbath was made by Silicon. The number of outliers still at the Cornucopia was near to nothing, but Silicon was determined to get another kill before the Bloodbath ended. He chased after a young boy beginning to walk down the steps of the pyramid. The boy screamed as Silicon jumped onto him, then slit his throat. The boy began crying before his cannon shot.

13th- Pyrus Jividen (District 12 Male) killed by Silicon (1) – Bloodbath

The surviving outliers scattered in all directions whilst the Careers regrouped. Silicon and Porcelain-China were put on body duty, pilling them all up in a corner. Submar and Kamchatka had to sort the supplies, sorting them into food, water, weapons and miscellaneous. Meanwhile, Djoser went on a half-hour long hunt for tributes, but found nobody. They spent the rest of the day getting to know each other better and decided who would be the leader, who turned out to be Djoser.

Bernadette had headed to the village area; she was extremely surprised to see all of the Aztecs wondering around, she wondered through the village until she walked into a house, looking for supplies, instead she found a teenage Aztec named Itzcoatl, after an Aztec king, the two of them bonded for the rest of the day and it seemed as though Bernadette forgot he was even a mutt. Aran had gone into the space were the village bordered the jungle, so he could easily access supplies but also get good cover when needed, later in the day, he got sponsored a lantern that could be ignited at any time. Carriage had gone over to the lake where he could easily access clean water, he had a pack of beef jerky and a flashlight, so he needed the water for his own survival. Aria had gone right into the jungle, she climbed a tree and found a comfy spot about twenty metres up it, where the canopy was beginning to creep in, she was well prepared for a fight if she needed to, as she had a long-knife, two water bottles, a loaf of bread, a box of dried fruit, a blanket and an empty backpack to put everything in. Phiadros had gone over to a swampy area between the lake and the village, he had managed to get a sufficient amount of water from the lake, but had no food, he climbed into a burrow an waited it out for the rest of the day. Trisha had gone over to the lake instantly after she escaped the Bloodbath, having just a sleeping bag and a pack of crackers, she settled down underneath an overhang, just next to the lake. Attica was probably doing the best out of the remaining outliers, she had a sickle, an artichoke coloured sleeping bag, six full bottles of water, countless food items and two huge backpacks to fit them all in, she had gone right into the jungle, slightly closer to the lake than the village.

The Careers were up bright and early on the morning of Day 2. They had their breakfast and then decided that Silicon would be the first to guard the Cornucopia, Silicon reluctantly agreed, muttering 'the odds aren't in my favour today'.

The four hunting Careers decided to hunt around the lake, as it was where most of the tributes would be, as it was the main source of water in the arena. After about forty-five minutes of searching, Submar stumbled upon a half-asleep Trisha and stabbed her through the chest with her trident, which made her scream in agony. Djoser heard her and ran towards her, finishing the poor girl off by stabbed her through the head with a knife.

12th- Trisha Cosle-Rachal (District 10 Female) killed by Djoser (2) & Submar (4) – Day 2

The only other interactions that day were from Carriage and the Careers. Luckily, Carriage had seen the Careers coming towards him, so he managed to duck underneath the lake's water just in time. He watched the Careers pass by, one by one. Submar. Kamchatka. Djoser. Finally, Porcelain-China. He waited for at least twenty seconds before emerging from the lake, being underwater for an amazing three minutes and seven seconds.

Bernadette continued to stay and talk to Itzcoatl, talking about their lives and what Bernadette would do if she won, something the Capitolites found quite interesting. Aran went into the jungle, waiting for the perfect time to make his move, still not turning on his lantern at all. Carriage was relieved that he wasn't seen but he now knew that the lake wasn't safe, so he went all the way to the far side of the lake, near the forcefield, and stayed there. Aria continued to stay in her tree, she nibbled on her bread, but didn't dare to eat or drink anything else. Phiadros was the most inactive tribute out of them all, he simply slept and lay around for the majority of the day. Attica stayed in the jungle the entirety of the day, she drank half of one of her water bottles, knowing the Games would be quite short.

On the morning of Day 3, the Careers had their breakfast and decided that Porcelain-China would guard the Cornucopia, whilst the other four would hunt through the village.

The Careers began hunting, within half-an-hour they were dangerously close to Aran. Aran noticed their presence and followed through with his plan. When the four hunting Careers entered a particularly large house, Aran opened the lantern's top up and used the flame to bring the wood and straw house alight. Within seconds, the entire house was ablaze, Aran maniacally laughing the netire time. Kamchatka was the first person out, having her nose and mouth covered by the fabric around her elbow. Djoser also managed to make it out, landing on his hands and knees and wheezing from the smoke.

Submar was unfortunately right at the back of the house, he quickly succumbed to the fire, dying when the smoke filled his lungs.

11th- Submar Redenbaugh (District 4 Male) killed by Aran (5) – Day 3

Silicon nearly made it, unfortunately, his lungs gave way just before he reached the exit, his left arm even sticking out of the doorframe.

10th- Silicon Inayah (District 1 Male) killed by Aran (5) – Day 3

Aran realised he had miscalculated the fire's strength and began sprinting away towards the jungle. Kamchatka saw him out of the corner of her eye, she nocked an arrow into her bow and fired it directly at Aran's neck, it instead hit him in the back of the head, but it still killed him after a short period of time.

9th- Aran Scharae (District 5 Male) killed by Kamchatka (4) – Day 3

That left the final eight: Porcelain-China Wittenberg from District 1, Djoser Quartino from District 2, Bernadette Xiong from District 3, Kamchatka Beiswanger from District 4, Carriage Tryham and Aria Koison from District 6, Phiadros Vallarino from District 9 and Attica Ellerbeck from District 11.

The Gamemakers quickly extinguished the fire to prevent it from engulfing the entire village, and then the jungle.

Djoser and Kamchatka walked back to Porcelain-China in dismay, having half of their entire Pack being eliminated already, so all three of them discussed strategy for the rest of Day 3, not bothering to hunt further. Bernadette stayed in the village with Itzcoatl and ate some of her supplies, even offering some to Itzcoatl, who dismissed them, saying he was a mutt and didn't need to eat. Carriage decided to move to the jungle area, it took him a full seven hours to make it all the way to the jungle, and then another three to find a good, secure spot inside of it. Aria was wondering around the jungle until she accidentally bumped into Attica, who was hunting for food. Both of them poised to attack, until they both realised that the other wanted to attack, they decided to form an alliance to eliminate the remaining Careers. Phiadros continued to be inactive, staying in the little dug out burrow, nibbling on his food and sipping his water. Before Attica had allied with Aria, she had ate some of her food, sipped on her water and hunted for animals to get sponsors and more food.

On the morning of Day 4, Allor decided certain tributes were being too inactive and put some of the wolf mutts to use. She first unleashed them upon Phiadros, who did barely anything to defend himself, he was devoured by a dozen wolf mutts before he could even scream.

8th- Phiadros Vallarino (District 9 Male) killed by Wolf mutts – Day 4

Then she decided to unleash the wolves upon the Careers and see their reactions to the mutts. She made the wolves come out through the back of the Cornucopia and end up practically on top of the Careers. The Careers reacted pretty well, killing seven of the twelve mutts right of the bat. Then one pounced on Porcelain-China and cut a huge gash in her right leg. Porcelain-China screamed as Djoser speared the wolf mutt on top of her, the other four mutts suddenly stopped fighting, then ran back to where they came from.

Mere seconds after the wolf mutts had left, Porcelain-China's mentor, Cashmere, gave her the sponsor gift of bandages, which Porcelain-China wrapped around her leg.

The trio decided that Porcelain-China would guard the Cornucopia again to let her leg heal, whilst the others would hunt. Kamchatka and Djoser decided to hunt in the jungle. The Careers didn't get a kill the entire day, meanwhile, the Anti-Careers had other plans. Aria had been sponsored a note from her mentor, Bonnet, that said – "The Careers are hunting in the jungle currently, but the D1F is weak and guarding the Cornucopia, you two could probably take her, B"
So Aria and Attica readied themselves for attack, then gradually creeped towards the Cornucopia, unseen. It was only when both of them made it to the top of the pyramid that Porcelain-China saw them. Porcelain-China tried to fight them, but her attack were futile due to her injured leg.

Attica quickly overpowered her, and with one clean swipe of Attica's new sickle, the girl from the luxury district was dead.

7th- Porcelain-China Wittenberg (District 1 Female) killed by Attica (11) – Day 4

The two Anti-Careers took the supplies from the Cornucopia that they needed, then scattered the rest of them in the large clearing that surrounds the pyramid, making them extremely hard to find.

When the Careers heard the cannon, they walked over to the Cornucopia and discovered it was completely empty, and Porcelain-China was nowhere to be seen. The now duo hunted around the Cornucopia for a few hours and managed to scavenge a few bottles of water, enough food to last the two of them for a week, a sleeping bag, a tent and a knife, plus they had their chosen weapons and a small food supply from when they went hunting.

Bernadette continued to stay with Itzcoatl, relishing every moment she had with him, it had been revealed in her Final 8 interview that she didn't really have any friends back in District 3. Carriage was being very inactive, simply resting in the jungle and daydreaming. Aria and Attica were overjoyed to have successfully killed Porcelain-China, they had returned to the jungle and set up their own little camp, it was the first time in the Games that they could have a proper meal and feel like they were the ones on top.

Day 5 slowly rolled around, and the two remaining Careers were eager to get the Games over with. Djoser decided that he was going to keep searching the village, as he didn't really get time to do it the day prior, whilst Kamchatka was going to hunt through the village, in the case that anyone had survived the fire.

Djoser was only hunting for about an hour and a half when he found Carriage lying in a makeshift hammock made out of blankets. Djoser flung a throwing knife at Carriage, it tore through the hammock and hit the boy right in the side. Carriage screamed and took off his shoe, throwing it at Djoser in an attempt to stop him. It did hit Djoser but didn't faze him much as he began running towards Carriage. Djoser brought his sword down onto Carriage's chest and killed him rather quickly.

6th- Carriage Tryham (District 6 Male) killed by Djoser (2) – Day 5

Around two hours later, Kamchatka heard taking coming from one of the houses, whilst the Aztec mutts were usually silent unless approached. She peak through the ajar door and saw Bernadette talking to Itzcoatl about food. Kamchatka waited until the right moment, then barged in and shoved Itzcoatl to the floor mid-sentence. She pulled a knife out of her belt and stabbed Bernadette through the head, ensuring her a quick death.

5th- Bernadette Xiong (District 3 Female) killed by Kamchatka (4) – Day 5

Itzcoatl was not happy about what Kamchatka did, he grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and pulled a knife from her belt, then plunged it into her face, killing the girl from 4.

4th- Kamchatka Beiswanger (District 4 Female) killed by Aztec Mutt (Itzcoatl) – Day 5

People questioned if Itzcoatl was even allowed to kill Kamchatka, but Allor replied saying he was clearly a mutt, and mutts kill tributes all the time in the Hunger Games.

Attica and Aria abruptly ended their alliance as there was only one tribute left, they expected to be able to stay allied for at least two more days, they were extremely surprised when they heard three cannons in such a short time period. Attica decided to move to a less dense part of the jungle, closer to the cornucopia as she knew the finale would begin soon, and she wanted to get to the Cornucopia before something else got her. Aria moved towards the village, but not exactly in it as she wanted to be able to see the entire arena without anything else seeing her.

When Djoser saw Kamchatka's face in the sky, he knew he was in this by himself, so he readied his weapons and prepared for whatever he had to fight.

Day 6 began and many Capitolites thought that Allor would begin the finale instantly, but Allor wanted to wait for one more death.

Aria continued to wait in the dense jungle, hardly moving a muscle. At one point, the Gamemakers unleashed another wolf mutt upon her, but she killed it with ease. She eventually got the hint that she was supposed to move inwards, so she followed through with it, moving into a lighter part of the jungle.

Djoser hunted through the remainder of the village for two hours before realising there was nobody there, then he began hunting in the jungle. He found absolutely nothing until around 5pm, when he and Aria locked eyes with each other, being about 100 feet apart. Djoser began running towards Aria, who ran away from him. The chase continued for about ten minutes, the two of them being practically the exact same speed, until Djoser misplaced his foot and tripped on a tree root, which gave Aria just enough time to conceal herself in the undergrowth. Djoser spent the next half-an-hour looking for her but found nothing.

It was even later that day, just before 10pm that the tributes next made contact, Capitolites were on edge because of how close Djoser, Aria and Attica got to each other sometimes, Allor didn't want to risk sending another mutt out, in case a tribute ended up dying from it, so it was really just a waiting game. Attica and Djoser bumped right into each other perpendicularly, they both began fighting each other, but it turned out that Attica was no match for Djoser and his sword.

3rd- Attica Ellerbeck (District 11 Female) killed by Djoser (2) – Day 6

That left just two tributes: Djoser Quartino from District 2 and Aria Koison from District 6.

"The finale will begin shortly after the start of Day 7, prepare, as only one of you will be going home." Tethys announced.

Aria wasn't sure how she should prepare, it either could be Attica dead or Djoser dead. If Attica was dead then Aria would train really hard to kill Djoser, but if Djoser was dead, then she didn't really want to fight.

Meanwhile, Djoser was training harder than ever, using a large tree as a target. By then end of the day, the entire tree had been brought down to the ground.

Two hours later, the Gamemakers began the finale and set the mutts off to bring the two remaining tributes to the Cornucopia. The Gamemakers put the three remaining wolf mutts after Aria, who quickly made it to the Cornucopia without getting a single injury. She now knew that it was just her and Djoser left, so she was eager to fight. The Gamemakers finally got to put the eight-legged wolf mutt to use, making it chase after Djoser, who made it to the cornucopia mostly unharmed, except for a bite mark on his back, inflicted by the large wolf mutt.

The finale began and the two remaining tributes duelled each other for twenty minutes, both equally matched with their swords, despite the fact that Aria had never used a sword before. The fight seemed like it would be endless until Aria lunged to the left and jumped onto Djoser's back. Djoser desperately tried to get her off, dropping his sword in the process. Aria used one arm to hold onto Djoser's back and the other to pull a knife from her belt, before quickly slitting his throat and continuing the 2 curse.
"I'm sorry." Aria whispered before Djoser died.

2nd- Djoser Quartino (District 2 Male) killed by Aria (6) – Day 7

"Aria Koison, you are the Victor of the 79th Annual Hunger Games!" Tethys exclaimed.

1st- Aria Koison (District 6 Female), Victor of the 79th Hunger Games
