Hello again. I'm trying to update quicker. Since, a lot of you are excited to see the Whitlocks reaction to what Edward did, this will be the last chapter before they return. I've glossed over some stuff that happened in New Moon.
Fenrissulfr: You're absolutely right. The reason everything is falling into place the way it is authorial interference, but there is a reason behind it that I guess you can call cosmic interference and it will actually be addressed later in the story. Thank you so much for the review.
CharacterImagination2: Hello! Like in the original New Moon, Edward asked Alice not to look into either girls future if she can help it. Blair also spends a lot of her spare time with Paul, which would interfere anyway. Hope this answers your question! Thank you for the review!
Jacob Black. Blair hadn't thought he would be the one to bring Bella out of her comatose like state, but it was happening. The last month, the two had been spending constant time together, and Bella was acting more like herself than she had since Edward had left. She seemed to really enjoy working on those motorcycles Bella thought she was keeping hidden from everyone.
Charlie, of course, didn't know a thing and Blair was not going to tell him if this was one of the few things that brought Bella some kind of joy. Her sister still wasn't right, not really. But for Charlie's sake, Blair would take what she could get.
It was only when Paul told her that Jacob would most likely shift soon that Blair got nervous.
"He's shifted." They were sitting on Paul's porch when he brought it up. Her heart froze and she glanced at him.
"Why?" Paul had already explained to her that they tended to shift when vampires were around, and the vampires were gone. Victoria had, surprisingly, stayed away. Paul sighed at her question, running a hand through his short hair.
"I didn't bring this up, because I know you have a lot going on, but the red-head you told me about has been spotted at our borders a few times. We haven't been able to catch her." All the air seemed to leave her body. She had secretly been hoping that the vampires she had formally called hers would have destroyed Victoria. That they cared enough about her to keep the danger that she was in from being involved with them at bay.
But no, they hadn't. Were they really so useless? So fucking cruel and uncaring? Apparently, they were. The thought hurt her more than the idea of Victoria sniffing around scared her.
"We're going to catch her, Blair. We've come close a few times, but she seems to always be just out of reach." His voice sounded frustrated, "Maybe with Jacob added to the pack, it'll get easier. He's got alpha blood." Paul's voice had turned bitter at that and Blair understood why.
Jacob had never really contained his dislike for Paul and thought he was just a hot-head with the muscle to back it up. Blair always had thought that Jacob was a judgmental little shit.
"What about Bella and Charlie? Has she been seen near the house?" Blair demanded. Paul shook his head.
"We've been taking shifts staying outside your house. There hasn't been any signs of her." She cut her eyes at him at his high-handedness. He hadn't told her and she was so tired of people not telling her things. It made her feel like a moron, but then maybe Edward was right in that she liked to be a 'know-it-all'. The thought made her anger deflate faster than it had gathered.
"Ok."
"Ok?" Paul asked incredulously. He'd been prepared for her ire, for the reaming of a lifetime. Anger rushed inside him as he saw the far away look on Blair's face. She'd never told him the full story of what was said to her the night the Cullens' went away but he knew it must have been bad. It made him want to pummel their sparkling faces until they weren't beautiful anymore.
"What does this mean for Bella? You know Jacob is the only reason she's been semi-alive." Blair changed the subject, focusing on her sister instead of the pain writhing inside her.
"I don't know. Sam has ordered him not to say anything. I told him that you might say something and Sam can't stop you. He's taken the martyr route and is determined to stay away from Bella for her own good." Blair huffed and rolled her eyes. She was so tired of people making decisions for her and Bella's own good. All it had done was lead them to heartbreak.
"Whatever. She can't handle losing him. She's hanging on by a thread." Blair was already mentally preparing for Bella to return to her previous state. For the sleepless nights and the minimal responses.
"And you're not?" Blair looked at him sharply. Paul matched her stare.
"You're so busy taking care of her that it's changed you. Don't think I haven't noticed. I don't want your sister to go back to the way she was only because of what it does to you. I couldn't give a damn about her otherwise." The snarl in his voice told Blair all she needed to know about what Paul thought of her sister, "But I can't disobey an alpha order." The implication in his voice was clear.
"I'll give Jacob the chance to tell her himself. If he doesn't I'll intervene and you can tell him I said that. Sam too."
XXXX
"I need you to come somewhere with me."
Bella had let herself into Blair's room without knocking. Her face was set in a determined line and the older girl could already recognize the stubbornness that her sister held coming to the surface.
"Where?" Blair set her book down and questioned.
"I'd go myself if I wasn't afraid of getting lost." Bella avoided the question.
"To where, Bella?" Blair was losing her patience. She didn't really have much patience to begin with anymore.
"E…the meadow." Blair was silent for a moment. She knew of the meadow. Bella had told her about it after Edward had brought her there. This was definitely a reaction to Jacob ignoring her calls. The boy hadn't heeded Blair's warning and seemed to be waiting her out, hoping she'd do his dirty work. It pissed her off.
"Ok." Bella nodded and left the room, probably expecting Blair to get ready and follow her. She sighed and started to get ready, changing into something that would be good for a hike.
XXX
The hike reminded Blair that she needed to work out more, but they'd made it. The meadow was barren, winter having taken the beauty of it away. She had no doubt that once Spring hit, the meadow's beauty would reveal itself once more.
Bella ignored her and seemed to be looking in the distance at something Blair couldn't see. Maybe she was taking in the difference between now and the last time Edward had brought her here, or maybe she was lost in her own memories. Blair didn't really know nor did she really care. The only reason she'd tagged along was to make sure Bella didn't get lost and eaten by a bear. Although a terrible thought crossed Blair's mind that her younger sister might have been better off compared to the hell she had currently exiled herself to.
A movement to her left caught Blair's eye and her breath hitched. As if appearing out of thin air, the vampire Blair remembered as Laurent stood before them. She heard Bella's breath hitch in front of her and reached for her arm, yanking her back closer.
"Hello, Bella…Blair." He greeted in a smooth tone that only vampires seemed to possess. He eyed Blair warily as if remembering Jasper's reaction in the field that day. He appeared closer and Blair stiffened even further.
"Laurent." Bella greeted in a wavering voice.
"It's interesting. I was so surprised when the Cullens showed up in Alaska without you both. Although I expected, you, Blair, to be with the Major. Bella, weren't you some sort of pet to them?" He was walking closer, the fluidity in his movements obvious.
"Yeah, you could say that," Bella replied as she choked out the words. Blair had no doubt that admitting it out loud probably felt like a battering ram to the chest.
"What do you want?" Blair hissed, keeping her face blank. Laurent smirked.
"I'm here at the request of Victoria. It seems your mate and his soldiers have been making it very difficult for her to come back here." Blair felt a sense of dread and relief at the same time. Jasper, Peter, and Charlotte were still looking for Victoria. Why they were bothering, she didn't know. It was obvious that Victoria hadn't told him she had been here and couldn't get past the wolves. It was clear that Laurent was just a sacrificial lamb in the eyes of the crazy red-head.
"And why would she want to come back here?" Blair replied. Laurent smirked.
"Blair, regardless of the ridiculous notion of you being Jasper Whitlock's mate, I know one such as you isn't ignorant. You wouldn't have entertained the Major if you were." Blair swallowed hard, "Victoria believes that since she lost James because of you, it's only fair that the Cullens and Whitlocks lose you in return."
"James sealed his fate when he tried to take the Whitlocks on," Blair replied, attempting to portray calmness. Laurent laughed. The sound was mocking and throaty. Bella's hand spasmed in hers and she gripped Blair's hand tighter.
"I agree. But vampires only mate once. She deserves her revenge. But she's not foolish enough to attempt to kill you head on. Even if you were just a toy, The Major's possessiveness is legendary. Bella…on the other hand." Laurent turned his eyes to her younger sister. Blair yanked Bella hard to stand behind her.
"Don't be stupid. Victoria is going to get you killed." Blair jumped when Laurent appeared directly in front of her. His hand came up to clasp her chin.
"Victoria has a brilliant plan to destroy you and everything you hold dear. But, she wants you to suffer, and I can't think of a more fitting punishment than killing the sister you nearly died to protect." With those words, Laurent pushed Blair with force and she went flying.
She landed a yard away with a thud and the wind was knocked out of her chest. He hadn't thrown her hard enough to break anything, but it was hard enough to make her chest feel like it was caving in. She gulped a few breaths of air and scrambled up. The sight in front of her made her heart spasm with anger and pain.
Bella hadn't looked back at her. Or at least she wasn't looking at her anymore. Laurent was in front of her sister, his hand raised to strike and Bella's eyes were closed, prepared for the end.
"Edward, I love you." She heard her sister whisper.
"Laurent, don't…" Her words were cut short by a loud growl and she could have sobbed in relief. Laurent stopped dead in his strike and whirled around. At the edge of the forest, was the pack. They stood massive and imposing, with their teeth bared and their legs bent, preparing to spring. Blair briefly recognized Paul amongst the pack, and he looked as even more vicious that the others.
Sam snarled in his wolf form and lurched forward in an obvious threat. He wanted the vampire to run. Blair was sure it was because he wanted to make sure that both girls were out of the crossfire.
Laurent obviously saw the threat for what it was, and turned. He blurred away from Bella and began to run. Sam lunged with the others in the pack following suit until that had disappeared where the vampire had gone. She saw a russet-colored wolf pause to look at Bella and knew that had to be Jacob. It was only a moment before he took off after the others.
XXX
The walk back was quiet. Both sisters were trying to process things of their own. Blair tried to reason with herself that Bella couldn't have run, it would have been pointless against someone like Laurent, a vampire who was most likely dead by now. That wasn't what bothered her. Bella had never even looked back to check to see if she was ok. Moments before she closed her eyes, her attention had been to her left, and not on the sister who had just been tossed like a rag doll.
"What were you looking at, before Laurent was about to strike?" Bella looked at her with surprise. That was what her sister wanted to talk about? Not the massive wolves that just saved their lives.
"Nothing. What kind of wolves do you think they were?" Bella asked. She was using her lying voice.
"You're lying. What were you looking at, Bella?"
"I…" Bella's voice wobbled, "Edward. I was looking at Edward." Blair's eyes swung from the road to look at her younger sister in confusion. Tears filled Bella's eyes, "It's the only way I can see him. When I do reckless things, he tells me not to."
Blair swallowed hard and worry filled her. Bella was even more far gone than she thought.
"You've been…hallucinating him?" Bella hissed through her teeth.
"Don't call it that!"
"Bella, that's not…" Bella cut her off with a look.
"I don't care. I don't care if it's crazy, and I'm not talking about it anymore. We have to go tell Charlie about the wolves. He in that forest thinking he's hunting bears." Blair sighed, knowing that she shouldn't let the hallucinations go but was too tired to argue. She put her blinker on and pulled over to the side of the road.
"What are you doing?! We have to go warn Charlie!" Bella said hysterically.
"The wolves aren't going to hurt Charlie," Blair said quietly. Bella stopped her next words and narrowed her eyes at her older sister.
"What the hell do you mean?"
With another sigh, Blair opened her mouth and did the work that every fiber of her being thought Jacob should be doing. She explained about the shifters, who was part of the pack, and why they were shifting. Bella's face grew angrier with every word that came out of her mouth.
"Victoria sent Laurent on the off chance that he could get you to get back at me, but she had to know there was a chance that the wolves would kill him. He's most likely dead right now." Bella was silent for a moment.
"You're such a fucking bitch, Blair." Blair's eyes widened in shock, "He was right. You do enjoy keeping things from me." She didn't have to guess who Bella meant by 'he'. She was silent as Edward's words came out of her younger sister's mouth and she didn't say anything to defend herself. The anger was bubbling and if she didn't keep it contained, she was afraid she'd choke the life out of her sister, "Turn around. Take me to Jacob's," Bella demanded. Blair started the car back up and turned her jeep around to head towards the reservation.
XXX
Blair stayed outside while Bella barged into Jacob's house like she owned the place. She leaned against her car until she heard a call.
"Blair!" She glanced to see Paul burst through the trees with Sam and Embry. They were unharmed, just like she thought they would be. She pushed away from her car and headed out towards the field to meet them.
At the same time, Bella burst out of the back of Jacob's house and was determinedly walking towards the pack, anger in every step.
"Bella," She called out in warning and sped up to a jog. She caught up just in time to watch Bella land a slap across Paul's face. In that moment, she couldn't help but think that Bella had chosen the worst wolf to assault.
"Paul," She begged, but it didn't matter. The shaking was too far gone. She pushed Bella away as she watched her friend's limbs contort in the air, and in that moment, all she could wish was that she wasn't standing so close.

2 weeks after Blair's incident
Jasper threw the dead body away from him. This one had been a rapist, and he had taken great pleasure in ending the man's life. His eyes had long since turned red in the months since Blair's birthday. He'd waited for the fear and pain of each person he killed to wear on him, but it never did. The only pain that he felt was seeing Blair's face when he closed his eyes. It hadn't gotten any easier. Not one bit.
Jasper hadn't expected it to really. She was his mate, a predestined match to him, and she was gone because of his own foolishness. He found himself constantly wondering what she was doing. Had she found someone else. The thought made a desire to murder anyone who could possibly touch her as if she was theirs. He wanted to murder them for being able to simply enjoy her light when it should be him that it shined around.
His thoughts were interrupted as his phone rang. Alice. She still called him once a week, but had mainly been met with one word answers. The Cullens were also looking for Victoria, but were having the same amount of luck that he had.
"Alice," He answered, smearing blood on his phone as he answered.
"Jasper," Alice breathed in relief, "We need to all meet up. I think I may have a lead on Victoria." That was all he needed to hear, and he was running.
XXXX
Blair looked in the mirror at the claw shaped scars running from her neck to the top of her chest. Sue had said she had been lucky. The marks were deep, but she was able to get away with being stitched up by the reservation medic instead of being taken to the hospital. A few more inches and Paul would have accidentally ripped out her throat.
Still, the marks were angry and red and the stitches itched like crazy. But that wasn't the worse part. Now, she had to contend with an apologetic Paul who was trying to do everything for her as if she was an invalid, a guilty Bella, and an angry and worried Charlie, who had been told that it was a bear attack that Paul had saved her from.
Paul had seemed to develop and even deeper hate for Bella, partially blaming her for slapping him and causing his shift, and now he sneered as if he'd like to kill her younger sister whenever she was mentioned. This caused Jacob to get defensive until Sam had ordered Jacob to keep Bella away from Paul.
Bella had apologized again and again and would look at her with guilt, but never really paid any more attention to her sister than she had before. Every spare moment was spent with Jacob, her 'sun'.
Charlie had to be calmed down from taking her to the hospital. Sue had convinced him by challenging his faith in her medical skills. But, she still got a severe talking to about going into the woods, with or without Paul. The whole incident had warmed Charlie up to shifter he thought had saved her life, which only served to make Paul feel worse.
It was a dramatic clusterfuck. 2 weeks of pure and unadulterated hell. Blair ran her hand around the area, knowing that it was going to stand out for the rest of her life. If she was still going to become a vampire, it would have healed away. But it didn't look like that was going to happen unless she went to the Volturi…
It was a thought that had been crossing her mind a lot lately. She knew they were in Italy, but not the exact whereabouts. Part of her kept thinking, 'why should she give up her plans just because people she thought cared about her left'. But that still left Charlie and Bella…and what the Volturi might do to the Cullens and Whitlocks for leaving them human.
Despite her anger and hate towards the families, she didn't want them hurt or dead. If what the Whitlocks had told her about the Volturi was true, they didn't take leaving humans with the knowledge of the supernatural world alive lightly.
It was all just too much to think about. Her phone rang and she looked away from the mirror. Her eyes narrowed in confusion as Jacob's name popped upon her screen.
"Jacob? What's wrong?" She answered. She listened to the boy's explanation on the other end of the line before snarling, "She did what?!"
XXXX
Jasper paused outside the house that the Cullens were calling their base of operations. It was still lavish, as was the Cullens way, but plain compared to their home in Forks. He could hear them inside and knew that they were going to become aware of his presence any second.
He wondered but didn't really care about their reaction to his diet change. As if like clockwork, the vampires inside got quiet before the door burst open and his bear of a pseudo brother burst out the door.
"Jay! I'm so glad you're…" Emmett stopped short at the sight of red peering out of Jasper's face…"What…?"
"Oh, Jazz," Alice murmured as she came up behind. Jasper had demanded that she not look into his future unless it had to do with Victoria, but how could she not have seen this?
"Jasper?"
"Son?" Esme and Carlisle seemed to say at the same time. Rosalie said nothing but bit her quivering lip as if to stop words from spilling out. Jasper ignored their reactions.
"What have you seen about Victoria?" Alice opened her mouth to plead with him to talk to them but was silenced with a look from the Major.
"It's not really Victoria but Laurent. I had a vision of Bella and…Blair." She paused to see Jasper's reactions. His eyes narrowed and his lips curled over his teeth, "He was attempting to attack Bella. He said Victoria sent him since he couldn't get close to Forks because of you. It was supposed to be a punishment for Blair. It all went black after that." Jasper sucked in a breath.
"She's ok," Alice hurried, "I know you and Edward said not to look into their future unless it had to do with their safety, but I had a vision of them at home. I don't know how they escaped, but they did."
Jasper's shoulders sagged in relief. The world would run red with blood if something had happened to Blair.
"And Laurent?"
"I think it was the shifters. The Denali Coven hasn't heard from him, so we're thinking he's dead," Emmett piped in. Jasper's grimace/smile was cruel.
"Such a pity." And it was a pity that the vampire had been ended so quickly when he deserved a slow death for even laying his eyes on Blair.
"I think…I think we need to go back to Forks. Victoria is resorting to sending people after them," Carlisle said reasonably, trying to ignore the dead look in his son's now ruby-colored eyes, "I know Edward wanted…"
"Fuck Edward," Jasper snarled. Carlisle kept his composure and flinch at bay.
"You'll need to call Peter and Charlotte back. Do you think they'll be okay with seeing Blair?" Rosalie asked quietly.
"They still don't know." The group went quiet, now thinking of the crazy reactions Peter and Charlotte would have to the entire situation. As if summoned by an invisible force, Jasper's phone began to ring. He had no doubt that Peter had one of his feelings and had knew he was needed. Taking a deep sigh, Jasper prepared himself for his Captain's ire.
"Peter."
"Major, what's going on?" Peter demanded over the line. Jasper had been right, Peter's feelings had told him to call.
"Victoria sent Laurent out of Blair and Bella." The line was silent for a moment.
"And how long did you drag out his death, Major?" Peter snarled into the phone. Jasper was silent for a moment.
"I'm not there. I haven't told you because I didn't want to distract you or hurt you, but Blair ended things between us 6 months ago. She wrote me a letter stating that she never wanted to see me or you ever again." There was a crunch and the line went dead.

In Texas
The hunt for Maria had been like chasing a ghost. Only whispers of the woman for months but never the woman herself. It had made him wonder more than once if they were barking up the wrong tree. How could Victoria had found her if they couldn't. But none of that mattered now. All that mattered were the lies that Jasper had just told him. It wasn't possible.
"What did he say?" Charlotte demanded. Peter didn't say anything.
"Find me a phone." Char didn't argue with her mate, just disappeared and reappeared moments later with a silver phone. They were in the city, so phones weren't hard at all to steal. He quickly punched in his maker's number again. Jasper answered on the second ring.
"Now, I want you to repeat the idiocy you just said to me," Peter said, his accent becoming more pronounced. He had never talked to Jasper with such disrespect.
"It's true, Peter. I still have the letter."
"I don't give a fuck if you have her name signed in her blood and notarized by the devil's lawyer. Blair wouldn't do that. What did you do?" He snarled. Char grasped him by the arm as a silent warning to calm down. She was angry too, but they weren't going to get answers like this.
"I lost control and tried to attack Bella." The shame in his maker's voice was so prominent that it made Peter pause before he pushed past it.
"That doesn't make any sense. That wouldn't push Blair away. She's not ignorant about our world and the things that could happen. She's not even that close to that twat of a sister of hers!" Peter was edging towards panic. Blair had been alone for 6 months. It made sense why he hadn't been able to talk to her. But why had she never answered his phone calls. That he didn't understand.
"It's what happened. But we have to go back. Victoria is now sending people after them."
"No," Peter barked, "Char and I will go and fix whatever you and your vegan family fucked up and call you when it's ok to come." He crushed the phone to end the call before turning to his mate, "How long to get to Forks on foot?" Char's mouth was fixed in a snarl.
"Two days if we don't stop." They took off without another word.
XXXX
"Of all the idiotic things you could have done? Cliff diving alone? Are you trying to die? Are you really ok with putting Charlie through that. You selfish, immature little…," Blair yelled as Bella sat on the couch, still slightly damp from her latest excursion.
The door bell rang, interrupting her rant. She pointed a finger at her sister, "I'm not done." Blair marched over to the door and opened it, fully prepared to tell whoever it was to fuck off, when all the air was sucked out of the room. Her chest heaved before it began to feel like her chest was caving in.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" She choked out.

And they're coming back. Next chapter will be a long one. It'll include Italy, everyone coming back, and Edward getting found out. Hope you enjoyed this chapter because the next one will be a ride.
