Chapter 98 -

"Nice job," Harry said to a bunch of students as he walked around the room of requirements during another Silver Wolves training session. "Colin, clockwise, not counter-clockwise," Harry called out to Colin Creevey.

"Oh, thanks, Harry!" Colin grinned widely before trying his spell. "It worked!" He cheered.

"Who would have thought?" Harry muttered under his breath before he continued walking. He stopped upon reaching Roman, Ginny, and the Carrow twins.

"Harry!" Hestia quickly said upon seeing him. "I got my butterfly defense working." She said proudly before she waved her wand and a swarm of butterflies surrounded her in a protective formation.

"Nice," Harry commented causing Hestia to smile. "though remember that it's not going to be a great defense against physical attacks, but it should do great if someone starts throwing torture and killing curses at you."

"I don't know why you'd use butterflies, bats are so much cooler and bigger." Flora pointed out with a wide grin before waving her wand and allowing a swarm of bats to surround her.

Harry chuckled upon seeing Hestia glare at Flora who was smiling innocently at her. "She's got you there," He grinned before turning to Roman and Ginny, "what about you two love birds?" He asked.

"Well, I'm working on my bone shatter spell," Ginny admitted, easily ignoring Harry's comment. "it's much harder than the bone breaker curse."

"Yeah," Harry nodded in agreement. "still, keep practicing and you should get it soon. What about you?" He asked Roman.

"Oh, I'm fine," Roman waved him off. "just trying to get my skin twister right."

"Oh, good luck with that," Harry smiled. "just remember to focus on how much of the skin you want to be affected by the spell." He added before he walked off and continued walking around, helping various students until he stopped next to Daphne and Tracey. "Ah, my prettiest pair of students." He grinned as he kissed Daphne on the lips. "What are you two working on?" He asked curiously.

"Well, I'm working on my fingernail exploder," Daphne smirked before aiming her wand at a training dummy that had been fitted with fingernails on its hand. A spell shot out from her wand and connected to the dummy, a second later the dummy's fingernails burst away from its hand, though it had also damaged a great amount of the fingers as well. "I think I got it down," Daphne added with a proud grin.

Harry let out a low whistle as he looked at the damaged dummy, he was pretty sure if that spell had connected with a regular human they would probably be lucky if they still had fingers. "Yeah, I'd say that you do," Harry agreed before turning to Tracey. "and what about you?" Harry asked.

"I'm just trying to improve my casting speed when I cast silently," Tracey answered. "I'm getting better...I think."

"Of course you are," Daphne scoffed, an amused look on her face. "you're casting much faster than before."

"Hmm, show me your stance," Harry told Tracey who nodded before getting into her stance. "ah, I have a few suggestions that might help," Harry said before he placed one hand on Tracey's wrist and the other on her waist, "try this." Harry began adjusting her stance while Tracey did her best to fight down her blush and ignore the amused look that Daphne was sending her.

"Dumbledore," Snape spoke as he walked into Dumbledore's office where he found Dumbledore standing next to his phoenix's perch, he was lazily stroking Fawkes who seemed to be enjoying the attention. "I have some concerns about Potter." He began without any preamble, sitting down opposite Dumbledore's chair without waiting for an invitation.

"Good morning to you as well, Severus," Dumbledore said pleasantly, after taking a moment to finish stroking Fawkes before he walked over to his desk and sat down. "now, what concerns do you have?" He asked in a rather serious voice.

"Ever since the news of Potter gaining an army I have been keeping an eye on as many students as possible," Snape admitted. "I am certain that the majority - if not all - of his Slytherin year mates are part of his group, obviously Angela Zabini as well."

"Obviously." Dumbledore calmly agreed, it didn't need to be said that Harry's vassal was clearly helping him out. Dumbledore raised a hand and gestured Snape to continue.

"I also believe many of the younger students to be involved, Lestrange and the Weasley girl are the most likely, the rumors have told me that Potter had treated them kindly when other members of their house had not." Snape continued. "I am also very positive that the Carrow twins are members of his little club as well."

"The Carrow twins?" Dumbledore raised an eye. "What makes you so sure about them?"

"The way they look at him," Snape answered, his lips curling into a frown. "there is admiration and awe in their gaze. They look at him the same way Bellatrix Lestrange looks at the dark lord, except - thankfully - with less lust." Snape resisted the urge to shiver.

"Ah, most likely due to their involvement in the chamber of secrets incident." Dumbledore hummed thoughtfully.

"Yes," Snape nodded, having already made that particular deduction. "and it is fairly obvious that he has followers in the other houses as well as there was no way that Potter could convince all of the Slytherin's to join him and even if he could there were far too many people for his army to be just made of Slytherins."

"Once again, I find myself in agreement," Dumbledore said, stroking his beard as he did so. "I do believe that young Harry has been spending the last few years building connections in the other houses, and if he hasn't then he likely was able to do so when Umbridge began throwing her weight around."

"Ah yes, Umbridge," Snape said the very name with disgust. "Potter may not have liked her but he was certainly able to use her to his advantage. If not for her pushing the students into his hands, he'd likely have control of a much smaller group."

"Oh, undoubtedly," Dumbledore said with a small and brief chuckle. "Fudge insured not only Umbridge's downfall by sending her here, but also his own. I imagine that he won't be able to remain Minister of Magic for long without a lot of support. Do you know if Voldemort has any plans regarding Fudge?"

"Not at the moment," Snape reported with a shake of his head. "though I do know that he has been talking with Lucius about the matter, I don't believe it's wise for me to try and get information out of either of them. The dark lord will surely suspect something if I pry too deeply, as will Lucius, the man did not become such an infamous politician without some level of intelligence."

"Hmm," Dumbledore hummed. "do not do anything that could..."

"Do not do anything that could risk my position, I know," Snape cut off Dumbledore impatiently. "what I want to ask is what am I supposed to do about Potter?" Snape asked. "From the looks of it, I would wager he has at least three-quarters of the school population at his command, not counting the youngest students. Do you wish me to try to discover the identities of the rest of his army?"

"No," Dumbledore said after a moment, shaking his head. "no, that would take a long time and, as you've said, he has a large number of students, we can't afford to waste time discovering each and every single one when we have more important things to deal with."

"Do we not? Do we not have time for this?" Snape questioned. "In case you haven't noticed Dumbledore, this war might just have become a threeway war."

"No, though I do understand why you would think that," Dumbledore sighed. "it nearly had become a threeway war, partly due to my own actions, but thankfully that has been avoided."

"What are you saying?" Snape looked at Dumbledore like he couldn't understand the very language that the older wizard was using.

"I am saying that Harry Potter and I have agreed to work together," Dumbledore answered. "he had pointed out that it was better for us to work together and I agreed."

"Are...are you serious?!" Snape asked with plenty of disbelief in his voice.

"I assure you that this is no joke."

"Have you finally succumb to madness?!" Snape demanded, stepping out of his seat and standing in front of Dumbledore, leaning on his desk.

"It is possible," Dumbledore mused. "though if I had then I likely wouldn't know, would I?" He asked thoughtfully.

"This is no time for this!" Snape snapped at him. "What is this nonsense about working with Potter? The boy builds up an army and you're going to do nothing?!"

"Severus," Dumbledore sighed. "I understand, I was quite hesitant to allow it to continue but I've talked with young Harry and I believe that..."

"Are you kidding me?" Snape gaped at him. "You had a conversation with the boy and that's enough to convince you?!"

"He made several good points," Dumbledore said with a barely noticeable shrug of his shoulders.

"So we're supposed to let the little brat do whatever he wants because he makes some good points?!" Snape demanded, practically frothing from the mouth. "Even James Potter was not as arrogant as this! He..."

"Enough Severus," Dumbledore interrupted gently with a hint of steel in his voice.

"What? Don't like hearing bad words against your 'golden child'?" Snape sneered at him.

"No, I merely have grown past irritated at your constant need to continue a grudge against a dead man," Dumbledore said with a mild glare. "you're slipping Severus."

"And what is that supposed to mean?" Snape growled.

"It means that Voldemort does not have any use for a spy who cannot see reality because he is unable to see past his own version of reality, and neither do I," Dumbledore said with a hint of warning in his voice.

"What are you talking about?!"

"I'm talking about the fact that Harry Potter has killed beasts that can take many wizards to simply subdue, that he has consistently been the top student for his year, that he has saved lives and battled more darkness in his few years at school than many would in their entire lives and that he has even built an army yet you insist on seeing only Lily or James, ignoring that..."

"He has nothing from Lily beyond her eyes!" Snape spat in denial.

"Does he not?" Dumbledore scoffed. "Was it not Lily who spent her free time in the library as Harry does? Was it not Lily who scoffed at house barriers? Do remind me if Harry's army is limited to Slytherins? Because I don't believe that it is. I am well aware that you believe me to be an old man incapable of seeing the world for what it is, but do not for a moment believe that you can truly see it either. I may be blinded by hope, but you refuse to believe anything that does not suit your worldview. Lily would be appalled..."

"Don't mention her name!" Snape shouted, slamming his hand on Dumbledore's desk.

"Why not?" Dumbledore asked calmly. "Are you the only one allowed to mention her? Are you the only one that cared for her? Were you the only one that mourned her? She was one of the most remarkable women I've ever had the honor of meeting, Severus."

"I loved her," Snape replied, his voice barely above a whisper, the anger draining slowly from his face.

"Do you? For a time, I truly believed that, but now...I find myself doubtful." Dumbledore said with a sigh. With those words being said, Snape's anger was brought back in full.

"How dare you?!" Snape roared, anger coating every inch of his face and filling up every available space in his eyes. "I...how dare you doubt my feelings for her?!"

"Can you blame me?" Dumbledore shrugged slightly, his calm demeanor doing nothing to calm the storm inside the potions master. "Perhaps you are right, perhaps you did love Lily...

"I still do you manipulative bastard! I...

"But you don't seem to love her as much as you hate James Potter," Dumbledore cut him off. "for the past few years it seemed like your hatred of James always came first unless dealing with very extreme situations. Why didn't your love for Lily come first? Why didn't you invite Harry to your office and tell him stories of his mother? Why don't you treat him like a regular student? Why? Because you either cannot or will not see past his face. You claim to love Lily, you knew her better than I did, you can answer my next question. How would she feel if she knew that you had been treating her son differently because of who his father is?"

"Shut up," Snape growled. "shut up."

"Lily, who loved as much as a human could love,"

"Shut up..."

"Lily, who would spend hours gazing upon her own son with a bright smile on her face..."

"SHUT UP!" Snape roared, spit flying out his mouth.

"Lily," Dumbledore continued as if Snape hadn't said anything at all. "Lily, the woman who loved him enough to die for him. She died so he could live, so he could be happy. Every day, every day, Severus, every day you spit on her sacrifice. Please, for your sake, for Lily's sake, please just..."

"Enough! This conversation is over!" Snape snarled before turning around and storming out of Dumbledore's office.

"Severus," Dumbledore sighed as he removed his glasses and rubbed his eyes. "you stubborn...stubborn man."
