A/N: I've been struggling on where to take this. I've finally decided it's going to be a them and us situation, with Imogen and Damon taking the side of the Originals (they're Imogen's family, of course they're going to), which was my plan initially.
I'm still undecided as to whether Elena will end up sired to Damon. Obviously nothing will happen between them, but if things are going to go south between her and Imogen because of the Originals anyway... Let me know what you think.
I'm also going to apologise in advance. I know updates have been sporadic for a while, I have had things happening in my personal life and my muse has decided to go on hiatus on several occasions. The personal issue have come to a head and I will be leaving my (now ex) partner and moving into a new home in 2 weeks time, so writing is going to be put on the back burner as I get things organised and packed etc. I will be back, but it may be several weeks before I get chance to start writing again.
September 2nd, 2010
We called Lexi, she has agreed to come and visit us to help with Ripper Rehab, and will be here in a couple days. I'm sure his humanity is on, especially if Rebekah thinks they are soul mates. I wonder if Klaus' compulsion can override the soulmate bond when it comes to humanity, and if he did turn it off, or just pretended because of Klaus.
Elena decided last night to take things into her own hands, and she persuaded Ric and Caroline to help her vervain Stefan. Tyler was meant to help them, but he told them that they couldn't do it because it wasn't in Klaus' best interest so they vervained him too. Turns out that he's sired to Klaus because he's grateful for him turning him into a hybrid as it means he can turn into a wolf at will, or rather not at all, and will do anything Klaus asks him to. Mason and Jenna have been out of town, but it wouldn't surprise me if Mason asks Klaus to turn him when he gets back, for the same reasons.
After Elena vervained Stefan, Ric put him in the back of his SUV. Elena got in to drive but the car ended up on fire and she was stuck unable to get out. Turns out Matt has been talking to Vicki and she convinced him to do some kind of ritual that allowed her to get a foothold on this side, and she was working with the original witch to kill Elena.
Stefan was able to wake up enough to kick out the tailgate and get them out, and Bonnie sent Vicki back to the other side. Stefan is still on the loose, but we're hopeful that Lexi will be able to sort him out once she gets here.
Bonnie had to undo what Matt did and send Vicki back to the other side completely. They didn't want to bother me due to me being pregnant, but they didn't tell Damon either. Seems as though they would rather go off on their own.
Rebekah was pissed that they did that to Stefan. Whilst she understands he needs help, she doesn't agree with the way they went about it, and to be honest, neither do I. Stefan needs to get used to human blood so he can drink it without going all ripper on us. They would have him back on animal blood, miss morality especially, but I'm going to speak to Lexi about trying to get him acclimated to human blood so he doesn't ripper out on us again.
I've been thinking about Mikael, the vampire that hunts vampires that Katherine has been trying to find to come and kill Klaus. I don't think that is a good idea. Not only is Klaus my Uncle, so as much as I dislike him, I don't want to see him die, but I also get the feeling that there is more than him going to die if he does. I don't know how, or why, it's just a feeling I have.
I pull myself out of my inner musings when I feel a stabbing pain go through me. I realise I'm alone in bed and wonder where Damon is, and why he's in pain. With a frown I climb out of bed and head downstairs.
I find Damon in the parlour, tied to a chair and looking like he's been tortured.
"Damon" I gasp, before running over. I hear Stefan come in behind me. I grab Damon's cheeks in my hands and he leans in to my touch.
"Imz." He breathes in relief.
"What the hell happened to you?" Stefan asks.
"Whatever twisted ripper game this is, leave me out of it." Damon growls back.
"I didn't do this." Stefan replies. I look at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Quit screwing around!" Damon grits out angrily.
"I didn't." Stefan reiterates, coming over to look at the ropes. "It's pretty messed up though, isn't it?"
"You think?" I growl at him. He raises an eyebrow at me and quickly tears through the ropes then walks out.
"Don't worry Stefan, I'll untangle your brother." I say, before starting to help him get free. As I'm working the curtains open by themselves. Damon starts to burn and I realise he doesn't have his daylight ring. I close the curtains with a swipe of my hand and finish untying him. We find his ring on the floor and he puts it on quickly before pulling me into his arms.
"What the hell was that Damon?" I ask.
He sighs. "I think it was my past coming back to haunt me. I was being tortured the same way I tortured a sadistic vampire named Joel a few years ago. He's dead though."
I smooth out the frown on his face with my fingers. "Do you think this has something to do with what happened last night? Maybe when Bonnie sent Vicki Donovan back something went wrong and now anyone on the other side has a foothold here?"
"It could be. We need to find Bonnie." He says. My stomach growls.
"Looks like that will have to wait until after breakfast." I say. Damon chuckles at me. We hear Scarlett shouting Mama and Dada from her room.
"Go and get her and get you both dressed. I'll get breakfast for you both." Damon says, before pecking my lips and heading to the kitchen.
Once we're all fed and dressed we climb into Damon's car. We drop Scarlett off with Aunt Jenna, who got back last night. She tells us that Mason is looking into some things he heard about whilst they were away and will probably want to speak to Damon about them later on.
"Caroline will have roped Bonnie into getting ready for the night of illumination festival tonight. They could be anywhere." I tell Damon.
"We'll drive around until we find them." He replies.
A little while later we spot Bonnie and Caroline hanging lanterns from trees. Damon pulls up next to them.
"Greetings, blondie. Witchy. I think you got your voodoo wires all crossed when you got rid of Vicki Donovan." He says.
"What do you mean, why?" Bonnie asks.
"Because I'm pretty sure I just got spit-roasted by the ghost of a vampire named Joel."
"What?" Bonnie says.
"And why would you think that?" Caroline asks.
"Maybe because he tied me to a chair and shoved a hot poker in my chest. Let's just say I'm having déjà vu." Damon tells them.
"Not to mention curtains randomly opening to burn him with sunlight when his ring was not on his finger." I add.
Caroline looks at Bonnie. "I thought you said that ghosts couldn't physically interact with people."
"They can't." Bonnie replies.
"Unless something wedged the door open last night." I say.
"Yeah, well, I don't have time for a vengeful vampire. When I kill someone, they're supposed to stay dead. Whatever you screwed up, fix it." Damon grits out.
"He means fix it, please. He's worried in case his past hurts me or Scarlett." I says. Damon rolls his eyes.
"I'll speak to Grams. I'll fix it, I promise." Bonnie says to me. "I won't let anything happen to them, you know that." She says, looking at Damon.
He sighs. "I know Bon. I'm sorry for being snappy. You know what they mean to me."
"I do. I'll fix it." She says.
Damon nods in response and drives away. I put my hand on his arm and feel him relax under my touch.
We head to the Grill to meet Ric. Damon has decided I'm not allowed out of his sight until the ghost problem is dealt with. We take seats at the bar with Ric and they order whiskeys.
"We've got trouble." Damon tells him.
"When don't we?" Ric retorts. I snicker, earning a playful glare from them both.
"He's not wrong." I say.
"What's happening?" Ric asks.
"Damon got tortured. In the same way he tortured a Vampire a few years ago. One who's dead." I explain. Ric cocks an eyebrow.
"Mason" Ric says.
We turn and see Mason coming over to us.
"Hey." He says, grabbing one of the glasses of whiskey and downing it. "I needed that."
"What's going on?" Damon asks as beeps with a message. "I am never going to hear the end of that damn necklace."
"Why, what's up?" I ask.
"Bonnie needs Elena's necklace to send the ghosts back." He tells me. "I've told them where to find it in our room."
I groan, and rest my head on the bar. Damon rubs soothing circles on my back.
"Jenna said you would want to talk to us." Damon says to Mason.
"I do. I might have information on a weapon that could kill Klaus." He says. I look up at Mason.
"He's my Uncle." I say sadly.
"I know. And I'm not sure I want him dead. I wouldn't mind being a hybrid, but the siring thing is off putting." He says.
"So why bring it up?" Damon asks, as Ric nods.
"Because I think we need to know. It's a weapon that could also kill both Imogen and you once she dies as a normal hybrid and becomes an original. Same for your children." He says.
"Elijah says the only thing that can kill us is white oak, but it was all burned, leaving just the ash for the daggers." I say.
"Apparently not." Mason says, as Lexi walks into the grill and comes over to us.
"Hey Lexi." I say, giving her a hug.
"Imogen! Look at you!" She says, rubbing my baby bump. She says hi to Damon, Ric and Mason before turning to me.
"I meed your help with Stefan." She says.
"Why do you need my help?" I ask.
"Bree gave me a spell that will fast forward Stefan's detox. It usually takes decades to dry him out after a ripper binge." She says.
I nod and look to Damon.
"I don't know baby, not with Joel out there." He says.
We quickly explain to Lexi what is happening.
"I never thought I would say this, but I'm pleased you killed Joel. He was a sick bastard." Lexi says to Damon.
Damon's eyes widen slightly before he nods slightly. "So you see why I don't want her out of my sight?"
"I do, but you know I'm older than you, and him. Stronger. I will protect her Damon." She says.
"I can protect myself you know." I grumble.
Damon sighs. "Okay. I'll go with Mason, you two take care of Stefan. If anything happens to her, I'll be pissed."
Lexi nods. "It won't. I'll make sure of it. I've got Stefan in the old Forbes jail cell."
We head to the jail cell, grabbing Elena on the way.
"Klaus really did a number on him, huh?" Lexi says to Elena.
"He compelled him to turn off his humanity." Elena replies.
"Well, we're just going to have to convince him to turn it back on. I have to warn you, it's not going to be pretty." Lexi states.
"I'm not sure it's off." I say. They both look at me.
"Klaus compelled him." Elena says.
"I know, but I'm not sure if that overrides the soulmate bond or not." I say with a shrug.
"Soulmate bond? You think Stefan and I..." Elena trails off as I shake my head no.
"Sorry Elena, but no. There is no soulmate bond between you two. Him and Rebekah though..." I say.
"No. He's not going to be her soulmate. I won't allow it." Elena states angrily.
"It's not something you choose Elena." I sigh.
"Can we get back on track?" Lexi asks.
Elena looks at her and nods. "I can handle it."
Lexi kicks Stefan to wake him up. "Wake up, sleepyhead." She says, as he groans and opens his eyes. "How you feelin'?"
Stefan looks down at the chains holding him to the chair. "What is this? Let me out of here!" He growls out.
"Shh. Inside voices, please." Lexi says, giving me a nod. "Imogen's trying to get inside your head."
"Elena. Get rid of her, please." Stefan says.
"No." She replies.
I concentrate on the spell, muttering under my breath.
"First step, drying him out. Starve away the blood lust. Strip away the temptation." Lexi says.
"This isn't going to work, Lexi. You can't do this." Stefan growls.
"You heard the not pretty part?" Lexi asks.
"I heard you." Elena replies, giving me a glare.
"What are you doing?" Stefan grits out, growling from the pain as his arms and hands start to dessicate.
"What are you doing, Lexi?!" he grinds out.
"Doing what I do best, sweetness. I'm saving your life." She replies, giving me a nod. I continue casting the spell.
Stefan starts acting wild. "Im starving! I'm starving! I'm starving! Let me out! Let me out. Please let me out." He begs.
"What's happening?" Elena asks.
"He's hallucinating. That's what, three months without any blood?" Lexi asks me. I nod in response.
"Let me out!" Stefan growls.
"Now he's at nine months." I say as Stefan starts to look worse and worse.
"Two years...Five, years." I say.
"Did I ever tell you how glad I am that you live miles away?" Stefan grits out.
"Oh. I missed you, too, friend." Lexi responds with a smile. We hear Elena's phone ring and she walks out to answer it.
She walks back in a few minutes later as Stefan is sweaty and panting.
"Elena, Elena. I'm hurting. Please help me." He begs her.
"Don't listen. Shut him out." Lexi says.
"I am helping you, Stefan." Elena replies.
"I'll do anything. I'll change. I promise." Stefan begs again. I shake my head.
"It's a lie. He'll say anything right now." Lexi says.
"Elena, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Just make it stop. Please, just make it stop." He begs some more.
"You have to separate yourself from your emotions. Don't let him play on them." Lexi warns her.
"Hey, look at me. Look at me." Stefan begs Elena. "Elena. I love you, okay? I love you. I love you so much. I love you so much, Elena."
"I'm sorry, Stefan, I just don't believe you. Immy told me that she thinks you have a soulmate bond to Rebekah." She replies.
"I see you've decided to accept it." I mutter. Elena glares at me. I shrug at her.
"You know what? I don't want your help, anyway. I wish I'd never met you. Every single moment that I've spent with you has been a complete and total waste. I should have been with Rebekah." He spits out at her.
"You see that? That's the ripper talking." Lexi says.
"I'm not so sure." I say. "He will be feeling the pull to Rebekah, he probably has all these years, but since Klaus compelled him to forget them in the '20's he wouldn't have remembered why." I shrug.
"How could he have fallen in love with me if he is her soulmate?" Elena asks.
"Probably because Klaus compelled him to forget Rebekah. And as much as I hate to say this, I don't think it was ever real love, more like infatuation as you look like Katherine and you didn't run a mile when you found out what he is."
Elena let's out a sob and runs out of the cell. Lexi and I both stare after her.
"Take it she's not a fan of the truth?" Lexi asks me.
"No, never has been." I sigh.
We carry on drying Stefan out, until it's as though he's been without blood for decades.
"I will rip you apart, Lexi!" He growls.
"You can't. I'm older and stronger than you." Lexi replies in a teasing voice. She turns to me. "You can stop now. We need to start him back on human blood, but in a controlled way, so he can learn to control it, instead of the other way round."
I nod in response as Elena comes back in. She explains that the tomb vampires killed Tobias Fell and that Bonnie needs to destroy Elena's necklace as that is the talisman giving them the foothold to interact with the real world.
"Good, this stress is not good for the baby." I say.
Stefan slumps down in the chair as the effects of the spell wear off.
"Tomorrow we start him on human blood in a controlled way." Lexi says. Elena and I nod in response. Elena's phone chirps with a text message.
"That was Caroline. The necklace is destroyed, the foothold is gone." She says.
I let out a big sigh of relief. We leave Stefan in the cell and head out, locking him in.
I head home, picking Scarlett up on the way. I'm just climbing into bed after putting Scarlett to bed and talking to Grams when Damon enters the room.
"Hey, you okay?" He asks.
"I am." I reply.
We climb into bed and he wraps his arms around me. He explains how Mason showed him some underground tunnels and caves under the old Lockwood property. Once of the caves has a bunch of old carvings which Mason couldn't understand, but from what he has been told it will give information about the weapon that can kill an original. He is taking Ric tomorrow so they can try and decipher everything as Damon can't enter the cave. He says it has the same kind of invisible barrier as a house does when he hasn't been invited in.
I tell him about ripper detox and about telling Elena that Stefan and Rebekah have a soulmate bond. I've realised I can feel it, and after talking to Grams on the phone earlier, we have worked out that Stefan was able to have feelings for Elena because Rebekah was daggered. It muted the bond as it was as though she was dead, and he didn't remember her because Klaus compelled him to forget them. Because the bond had been muted, Klaus was able to compel him to switch off his humanity, but now Rebekah is back, it will flip back on, if it hasn't already.
"It's certainly been a day of revelation." Damon says. I hum in response.
"It has." I agree, yawning.
"Let's get some sleep, you're exhausted." Damon says.
I lean up to kiss him before nuzzling my head into his chest.
"Goodnight." I say. "I love you."
"I love you too." He replies. "Goodnight."
