The Truths

Of Sara Lance

Disclaimer: The Crisis events where Sara's concerned ended up inspiring this and will have minor spoilers from that. Warning, this won't be for Sara Lance fans. Also takes inspiration from a certain Gordon/Strange scene in Gotham.

Sara awoke with a low groan, her head in pain much to her dislike. "Ah, I see you're beginning to awake. Good, good." Came a man's voice she didn't really recognize thanks to the pain.

Pain she quickly ignored thanks to her League training as she forced herself to look for the source of the voice. Seeing a bald headed man with red glasses, potential Asian background, and, in her view, a ridiculous looking beard. "Who the Hell are you?" She demanded to know and quickly realized she was secured tightly into the chair she was sitting in.

The man shook his head at her in a disappointed way and tsked at her like she was a child who'd been doing something she shouldn't have been doing. "So rude, especially when its me who should be asking you that question, my dear. As after all, you showed up unannounced in my current abode."

"Yeah, well, I came here to track something. Not like I knew anyone was gonna be here." Sara told him with a glare.

"Hmm… And what are you tracking if you don't mind my asking?"

"Oh, I mind. Sorry." She told him unapologetically.

As the less anybody, especially this guy, knew about time travel problems, the better. Her captor shook his head again and sighed in disappointment. "I had hoped you would make this much easier for not only myself, but yourself as well, my dear."

Sara shrugged as best she could with a smile on her lips that could probably be described as antagonizing. "What can I say? I've never been one for doing things the easy way."

"So I see. Its fortunate that I have something to make that… Less of an issue."

Narrowing her eyes at the man, she asked him what he meant by that as he circled around her. "My dear, I am a Doctor, Doctor Hugo Strange, at your service. And in my line of work, having certain means at my disposal to deal with troublesome patients is an absolute necessity."

"Except I'm no patient."

"No, no you are not. But you are an intruder. One who could easily expose my location to the wrong sorts of people and I'm afraid I simply can't have that."

Any responses Sara was about to make was cut off when she felt a pinch in her neck. "What the Hell did you do!?"

"Oh, nothing to worry about, my dear, just a little truth serum." He answered her calmly as he came back around to be in front of her.

The good Doctor watched as his guest's eyes glazed over and her mouth stayed open as the drug took effect on her. "How do you feel?"

"Got… Got a headache. And kinda pissed."

"Why do you feel that way?"

"Because I'm trapped by you. A woman should never suffer at the hands of a man." Slurred Sara.

"Yet I'm not making you suffer." He pointed out in what he felt was a reasonable way.

"You're making me… Feel, feel vulnerable. I don't, I don't like that at all. S-So… You, you are making me… Suffer."

"Its natural to feel that way at times, you mustn't run from that sort of thing, my dear. Its nothing to be ashamed of, I promise. It is OK to be vulnerable."

"Don't… Don't believe that."

"Even if I promised not to hurt you in any way?"

"Even then..."

"I see. Pity. Now, tell me, who are you?"

"Sara Lance. But in the League of Assassins I was known as Ta-er al-Sahfer, which meant 'The Canary'. Now, I'm also known as White Canary." She told him slurringly.

"You said 'was known', does this mean you are no longer with the… League of Assassins?"

"Yes, that's right."

"Why did you leave?"

"Because, I, I hated it. It was killing my soul. And Nyssa always wanted more than what I was willing to give. I… I never told her that. Even though I also claimed I wanted to make sure my family was okay after Starling had that Earthquake device used on it. But that, that was only half true."

"And why is that? Why did you never want to give her more?"

"I love Oliver Queen. He's who I've always wanted no matter what. And still do. Telling her that would, would have hurt her. And drive her to kill Ollie."

"I see. Interesting."

"That's… That's why I won't bring back my older sister from the dead. And I've had more than one chance to do it."

"Your sister?"

"Yes, Dinah Laurel Lance."

"And why won't you bring her back from the dead? Surely your love for your sister would see that it was done." And its not like he could have trouble believing it could be done as he had brought the dead back from the grave himself!

Though admitttedly, her sister's name did sound familiar… "Jealousy."

"Jealousy?"

"Even though I was the favorite, she tended to have what I wanted. And Oliver Queen was exactly who I wanted for myself. And I know it had to have been her who called the cops on a party I went too where he was. Because that led to them getting together afterwards."

So his home invader is a jealous little girl? Well, it could be worse. It could have been Fish Mooney knocking at his door again for example. Or even worse… The damned Bat! "I see. But let's take a moment and focus on something else. Is that alright with you?"

"No, not really."

Hugo just smiled and continued on. "Why are you here? What are you tracking?"

"My… My time ship, the Waverider told me and my crew that, that there was something here. Something that wasn't supposed to be here because its from the future. So I, I chose to come here and handle it."

"You're a time traveler?"

"Yes."

"I see. And I take it you have not deduced what it was your… Ship, told you?"

"No. You kinda stopped that from happening." She told him in that dazed manner.

I at least have my answers now. Even if it is somewhat hard to believe.

But the possibilities where time travel was concerned was just fascinating! All the things he could learn from the greatest experts of history in his chosen fields! Calming himself down after some thought on the subject, Strange got back to business. "So your jealousy of your sister has caused you to make the decision to not return her to life despite the chances you've had, yes?"

"That's right. And its why I kept sleeping around for awhile. Partly because I enjoyed getting with those girls and because I was also burying myself in them to ignore that part of me that actually felt guilt for not bringing her back." It was also why she hadn't necessarily fought harder with Rip where Laurel was concerned.

Because she didn't WANT her back. For even with Felicity around, she knew that sooner or later, Ollie and Laurel would eventually get their acts together and get back together. And she just… She just couldn't handle that. Yes, she felt a great deal towards Ava, but at the end of the day, Ava wasn't Ollie. "What do you think would happen if she were to be given another chance at life?"

"Her and Ollie… They'd… They'd eventually get back together. She, she was always better than me in a lot of ways and I… I never liked that."

"I see… Perhaps its best if you take some time to truly reflect on things, young Sara. After all, I'm sure your family have done a number of things for you that was for the better, correct?"

"Yes, my sister helped me come back to life. Even, even helped free my soul so I could be fully back. Helped… Helped me deal with everything after that." Another thing she tried not to think too much on.

As it just meant she was a truly terrible person for not being willing enough to return the favor. Her speech to the Oliver formerly of Earth-16 (and now the only Oliver aside from the Oliver she knew who was now the Spectre) wasn't entirely truthful as she knew enough to know that he would have been a hero and the Age of Heroes would have happened regardless of her being on that boat with him. But it had helped him to find closure regardless and that was the important thing for her. Strange studied her for a moment before speaking. "Then wouldn't you agree its only fair that you return the favor for your sister? As I've no doubt she would do the same again and again for you if it was necessary." He asked reasonably.

Making her hate that a great deal as he was right and it was what her sister deserved instead of her selfish actions. "You… You're right." Admitted Sara with her head down.

"How do you feel now?"

"Like the worst person on the entire planet."

"Yes, that would be a feeling to experience for certain."

She nodded as he injected something else into her, something that would make her pass out. Allowing for him to make preparations to leave the area as she slept so that issues would not arise at any point for him. However, he would leave a recording behind to help remind her of their conversation in case she had trouble remembering it. And later, after some careful planning and being tight lipped about what she was doing, Sara was able to bring back Laurel without screwing up Time itself. Finding Doctor Strange however, proved to be far more difficult much to her strong dismay and anger.

Author's Notes: Remember, flaming me and the like for this is just a waste of not only my time, but your time as well. I had originally planned for this to be more than just a one-shot but given the amount of time that's passed since I started this, I don't think that's gonna happen.
