I'm writing this as a deleted scene to my story, "Out with the Old, In with the New"! If you haven't read it, go check it out, if so, then enjoy this one-shot! *btw might not line up perfectly with the story but regardless, hope you like it!*
It had been a few months since Phineas had come up with his huge romantic gesture to ask Isabella to be his girlfriend. They had gotten back home from their crazy adventure in California, and Ferb had been working on his own little gesture for Emma. He was determined to make it as perfect as possible for the girl of his dreams. He had promised her that night that he was going to make her feel like a princess.
He had asked Phineas for help getting some of the things, for example, a horsedrawn carriage and fireworks. The Fireside Girls provided a romantic setting for them to spend the evening together in their backyard. Isabella had promised to help him with food and making sure everything went down as planned.
Finally, after months of planning and trying to get everything to line up, he had come up with a beautiful plan for how it would work. He'd texted her earlier and told her that he was taking her on a date and she should wear something more formal. His heart was racing at the speed of light with pure nervousness. He was scared something was going to fall through.
"Bro, there's no need to worry! It's not like she's gonna break up with you if it doesn't go perfectly! Besides, sometimes screwups make an evening better! Don't stress too much about it, and if you need something, Isabella and I will be watching from inside." Phineas tried to assure his brother.
"You're right... I just want this to be perfect for her. She's gone through so much, and I just want to show her how much I love and appreciate her." Ferb sighed.
"Ferb! Get it together! You two are perfect for each other, and you have shown SO MANY signs of affection towards each other, like, since you got together. It's gonna be fine!" Isabella said, and put a hand on his shoulder. "Plus, she REALLY loves you. Like, it's a little scary how much she does."
"You're right! I'm gonna go out and do this and it's gonna be 'Ferb-tastic!'" he said.
The other two stood there in awe at his horrible pun.
"I- Please don't ever say that word again." Phineas laughed.
Isabella laughed and agreed with Phineas.
"I know, it was terrible. Oh, crap, I have to go!" Ferb said, checking his watch. He adjusted his bow tie in the mirror and rushed out the door. He came back inside seconds later.
"Why are you still here?" Phineas asked.
"Hat or no?" Ferb asked, putting on a matching top hat and taking it off again.
"No! Get out of here, loverboy!" Phineas laughed and pushed him out of the house.
They went upstairs and watched Ferb enter a carriage shaped like a pumpkin that he and Phineas had built. They even made animatronic horses, that moved and looked like real horses, minus the mess.
Ferb pulled up to Emma's house and used the controller to make the horses whinny.
Emma heard a horse outside and was confused. She personally hoped it was a horseback ride... why would he tell her to dress nice, though?
She opened the door and her jaw opened wide. There was Ferb, standing in front of a horsedrawn carriage. This was her biggest dream. "You did this for me?" she asked, a grin spreading wide across her fair skin that shone in the moonlight.
"Yes. Yes I did. Can I help you up, Princess Emma?" he smirked.
She giggled and offered him her hand. He helped her up first and then jumped in after her.
"Hyah!" he called to the horses, and they started moving.
"This is perfect..." she sighed, looking at the stars and then at Ferb. "I can't believe you would do this for me!"
"Emma, I'd do anything for you. Besides, you told me your dream date was on a horsedrawn carriage! I have a few more surprises for you tonight, though. Remember when I told you about that huge romantic gesture a few weeks ago?"
"Well, this is it! But let's not worry about the rest of it and just enjoy the view." he smiled, and pressed a button that turned on some music.
She smiled, blushed, and leaned on her boyfriend's strong shoulder. He rested one hand on her thigh and the other held her hand. They rode through the park and into the more forested area of Danville. Every once in a while, they'd hear an owl hooting in the trees or a rodent rustling in the bushes and trees.
Emma loved nature, but she hated nighttime. She gasped at every noise and tensed up. He wrapped one of his arms around her, comforting her.
"Shh, it's okay... they're just forest animals, they can't hurt you, love." he whispered in her ear.
"I know... it's just weird thinking there are other things out here." she whispered back, and he grasped her hand and squeezed it.
She saw a figure on the road, and saw the lights from the carriage illuminate a shadow. "Look, a deer!" she whispered, trying not to scare it. The doe moved forward, and later revealed a small fawn waiting by the road. She oohed and awed at the gorgeous forest animals.
He chuckled. "You know, I don't understand. Didn't you go on a hunting trip last year?"
"Well, yeah, but I don't shoot does! Duh!" she laughed.
"Oh, I know. It seems a bit... ironic, though." he smiled.
"Honestly, I don't know how my brain works. I love deer, but I also love venison... it's kind of a problem. But not really..." she giggled.
He looked at her gorgeous blonde hair that was being illuminated by the stars in the night sky. He knew she loved animals, but she was also a hunter, and had filled 3 tags in past years. She got it from her dad, who was also an avid hunter.
The carriage turned around and started its way back to the urban part of Danville, and the couple was enjoying their alone time just talking and laughing with each other.
When they got out, Emma was curious to see what else he had in store. He took her hand and led her to the backyard, where it was dimly lit with a table for two, flowers, and rose petals scattered around. She gasped, and was taken aback by the amount of time and effort he must have put into this.
He led her to the table, and pulled out her chair for her. She sat down, and he pushed her in.
She blushed at the care he was taking, trying his hardest to make this night special for the both of them. They sat for a few minutes, and soon, their waitress came out.
Emma laughed, seeing Gretchen in a black and white waitress uniform, and smiled warmly.
"Rocking the waitress look, girl!" she laughed, and Gretchen thanked her.
"So, the food is already prepared, it's a surprise, but what can I get you to drink?" she asked.
"I'll just have a water." Emma said.
"Make that a lemonade, please. And I'll have one as well." he winked, knowing her too well. He knew how much she loved lemonade, and she blushed at his knowledge.
"Wow, you really know me, don't you?" she laughed.
"Yes. Yes, I do." he winked.
Gretchen giggled at the adorable couple and gave Emma a quick wink before shuffling inside.
"You really thought of everything, didn't you?" she laughed.
"You haven't even seen the best part yet!" he exclaimed, grabbing her hands from across the table.
"There's more than this?" she asked incredulously.
"Of course there's more! If there wasn't, I wouldn't even be deserving of my own name!" he chuckled.
"I guess I should've expected that, being as I'm dating one of the most creative guys on the block."
"Yes, yes you should have." he smiled devilishly, leaning across the table and kissing her softly.
Gretchen waited until they were done, then walked out with their drinks. Ginger and Adyson were behind her, carrying two fancy plates with metal domes on top of them.
Emma's jaw dropped and she smiled. "I thought these things only existed in movies!" she laughed.
"We just took Mrs. Flynn-Fletcher's mixing bowls and turned them upside down... don't tell Isabella, though." Adyson whispered and Emma laughed and agreed.
"No complaint here!" Emma replied, and the couple thanked the girls for their work.
They opened the plates to reveal Emma's favorite meal, fettucine alfredo with chicken gnocchi soup. She gasped excitedly at the sight of the food.
Ferb had known that Emma was a foodie, as baking and cooking was one of her favorite things, and so he had heard of all of her favorite foods in every genre. Dating Emma was like being in food heaven. She was always trying new recipes, and had Ferb come over every time she made something new to let him try it. He had gained a few pounds since becoming her boyfriend, but it was completely worth it.
The two started eating, and they talked and laughed for another 45 minutes before they were both done.
"Ready for the grand finale?" he asked, getting up and helping her out of her chair.
"Always!" she giggled as Ferb placed a blindfold over her eyes. He spun her around a few times just to throw her off, and she was confused. "What is this, a pinata?" she asked, trying to regain her balance. He made sure she didn't fall and was able to stand normally before taking her by the hand and leading her to a spot in the backyard where they had created a viewing spot for them to watch the sky.
He sat her down in a lawn chair and sat beside her.
"What is this?" she asked, as Ferb took off the blindfold. "Wait, you blindfolded me to take me to another part of the yard?" she asked, curious.
"Mhm, there's a reason, don't doubt my ways!" he laughed and kissed her forehead. "Just watch the sky." he said.
Phineas was already working on the firework show in the background, with Isabella by his side.
"Izzy, light that fuse... now!" he whispered as she lit the firework and a pop of color and sound entered the sky. Fireworks of every shape, size, and color lit up the sky.
"It's like the Fourth of July out here!" Phineas said, and him and Isabella laughed.
Ferb watched Emma's expressions as the sights were like nothing she'd ever seen before. Even her family's 4th of July exhibits were nothing compared to this, and her mom was a major firework fanatic.
"Do you like it?" Ferb asked.
"I-" she started, but was interrupted by a huge boom. A huge firework exploded, in the shape of a heart, and as she looked closer, there was an F and E in the middle. "How did you pull this off?" she asked, grinning.
"If I told you, I'd reveal all my romantic secrets, and I can't do that, can I?" he smirked.
"Oh, fine... but there's no way you could ever top this."
"Is that a challenge?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes. Yes it is." she laughed.
"Well, you have to finish the night before judging anything else. We're not done here." he said.
"What?" she asked in awe. How long had he been working on this?
He stood up and helped her up as well. He looked her in the eyes, the green in them being magnified by the fireworks exploding in the background. He could barely get the words out, and it was almost impossible for him to try to be romantic when he was struck by her beauty.
"I... um... Emma... I..." he stuttered.
She smiled, nonverbally cuing him to keep speaking.
He cleared his throat and closed his eyes while inhaling deeply. He exhaled and opened his eyes, going over the speech he had been writing for the longest time. He had to get it perfect this time.
"Emma Hunter... I've loved you since I laid eyes on you. You're a vision that I never thought would ever come true, and just being here with you tonight has shown me that I don't need anything but you to be truly happy. I don't need fancy inventions, crazy ideas, expensive things, because as long as I have you, I can live my life to the fullest. You're a stunning girl. You have the most beautiful eyes, your hair is just perfect and you already know it's soft and I love braiding it, even though I kinda suck at it, and you don't ever get mad at me for being me. I feel safe around you, and you're not just my girlfriend, you're my best friend. I don't know where I'd be without you, Emma, and I'm never letting you go. That's why..." he said with emotion, feeling tears start to well up in his eyes. He looked at her, and saw she already had tears streaming down both sides of her face. He blinked off his own tears and wiped hers away with his finger softly.
He fumbled with his pocket and pulled out a small box. "I didn't think I'd be buying one of these, but I guess this is it. I didn't really believe in promise rings until I met you, but when I saw a video about some guy giving his girl one, I just knew I had to." he said, as he opened the box to reveal a small ring with a hole in the middle of the top. "See, this is the promise ring, and when we... you know... the other ring goes in the middle! Cool, huh?" he said, and found himself going on and on about random things. Shut up, Ferb, let her answer!
She opened her eyes wide at the gorgeous ring encrusted with small blue sapphires, and couldn't stop crying. She never thought in a million dreams she'd get one of these. Ferb was a very traditional guy, and he had laughed at her when she told him about how one of her friends back home got a promise ring. She knew he didn't really like the idea of a premarital commitment, but this made her heart jump. He really saw them together forever? She blushed and nodded as he slipped the ring on her finger. It fit just perfectly.
They stopped and looked into each others eyes slowly and as the last firework went off, they kissed. The lighting was absolutely perfect, and Isabella caught the moment on her camera. She showed Phineas, who smiled and nodded in approval. He held her in his arms and gave her a squeeze while they looked at the cute couple.
Ferb held Emma tight, and refused to let her go. He pulled her closer to him, and they kissed for minutes without breathing, not wanting to ruin the moment. He wrapped an arm around her waist and used his other hand to cradle the back of her head softly. They pulled away, smiling and leaning their foreheads against each other.
"Do I have to go home?" she giggled.
"I mean, my parents are gone tonight, they're with Mum's parents helping them fix their heater... I wouldn't mind if you stayed over if your parents are okay with it." he smiled.
"Hmm... might have to do a little convincing..." she smirked and closed her eyes. "But I'm not gonna call them just yet, can we just..." she sighed, moving her head on his shoulder, holding onto him like it was their last day together.
Phineas and Isabella had gone inside to give them more privacy, and they were cuddled up on the couch watching a movie. Their work was done.
About 10 minutes later, Ferb and Emma were back on the chairs, looking at stars, when Emma decided to ask her parents if she could stay over. She tried to call her mom but got the no service signal. She furrowed her brows in confusion. She called her dad, but got the same signal. He had a voicemail, though.
"Hello, sorry I wasn't able to take your call. If you're calling Monday through Friday, I might not have my phone on me at the moment, but I will call you back ASAP. If you're calling on Saturday, I'm on a camping trip with my wife and son, please call my house number if you need anything."
She heard the voicemail and realized what was going on. "OHHH, that's right! My parents are taking my little brother and his friends on a camping trip for their scout group. Well, I can't really get a hold of them, so looks like we're in the clear!" she laughed.
"Awesome! Do you need anything from your house?" he asked.
"Yeah, I gotta grab a couple things. Wanna come with?"
"Sure! By the way, you're not gonna need pajamas." he said, then realized how wrong it sounded. His eyes widened. "NO, NOT LIKE THAT! I meant I have an old t-shirt and hoodie you can wear..." he blushed. "I know you like wearing the hoodie, so... yeah..."
She giggled at his mistake and nodded with excitement. "You're gonna let me wear your hoodie, too? Holy moly, I really scored, didn't I!"
He laughed and walked her across the street.
She grabbed her stuff and they went back to his house, where they got changed and all cuddled up.
He held her in his arms while they closed their eyes.
"Comfortable?" he whispered.
"Very..." she mumbled, falling asleep. She nuzzled her cheek against his chest and fell asleep.
He smiled at the girl in his arms, smiling in her sleep. He wondered how he had been blessed by such an angel. This kind of thing only happened in the movies, but their entire relationship had been practically a scene out of a romcom. Drama had gotten in the middle at the beginning, but it had settled down lately, and he couldn't be better.
"Goodnight, my love..." he whispered in her ear before faling asleep with her by his side. This was the perfect moment, one that he would never forget.
