III: A Supernatural First Day of School
A tall and muscular adult male could be seen walking down the street of a neighborhood. He was wearing a casual fit which consisted of a red polo shirt with jeans. He had his hands in his pockets as he casually strolled down the block. It was the dead of night, where most, if not all, people were already within their homes sleeping.
The most peculiar trait of this man was his crimson hair and golden eyes. It was not everyday you saw someone with that set of hair and eyes. They would definitely attract attention, whether it be the positive or negative kind.
As the man was walking, blue flames began to suddenly appear in his direct path. Most people would probably be surprised by this and run away from the scorching flames, but not this man. Because he knew exactly who it was that was about to come out of those flames.
"What are you doing here, Daughter?" The man asked with a sigh. He really should have expected this but he had hoped she would stay out of his business.
Out of the fire, stepped out a young woman who appeared to be in her early twenties. Just like her father, she wore casual clothing. However she wore a golden T-shirt instead of a red polo. On the shirt, were engravings of golden flames that almost seemed like they were real. Her hair was bright red, long and flowing down all the way towards her waist line. Her eyes were golden, which she inherited from her father. She was a very voluptuous woman, and her beauty could not be denied by any man or woman. Even goddesses envy her proportions. With a perfect hourglass figure, a buxom chest, a butt and hips that would make all men turn their heads, there was without a doubt that she was a desirable woman to the utmost degree.
She had a tanned complexion just like her father, which complimented well with her golden shirt and eyes. She smiled at him, showing perfect white teeth along with a hint of canines.
"I'm here to see my newborn brother of course!" She replied to her father's question. The man frowned as he saw right through his daughter's deception.
"Cut the crap. You know I told you that you weren't allowed to see him. But it seems as though you were going to disobey your father's orders and just go see him anyway."
"Would you look at that. My father has spent so much time with the mortals that now he's speaking like them. I have never heard you use the phrase, crap, until now." The beautiful daughter said with disgust. She never approved of her father spending time with the mortals. "Am I not allowed to see my own baby brother? My own flesh and blood?" She asked dramatically as she placed a hand on her chest.
The man scoffed, "You want to do more than just see him. You plan on kidnapping him."
"Whatever do you mean-"
"Don't even try to bullshit me, Daughter. Did you forget that it was I who taught you how to lie and deceive? I can sense your true intentions. And I will not allow it." He stared at his daughter with regal golden eyes. She was taken aback by how forward he was, but she really shouldn't have expected anything less from the man who birthed her.
"You can't seriously be leaving your own son at the hands of mere mortals! That is ridiculous. He needs to be raised by his real family to make sure he grows up to be a strong warrior, and not a weakling like these pitiful humans!"
"I wouldn't underestimate mortals if I were. You are downplaying their potential." Her father smirked at his daughter's ignorance. If only she knew just what humans were capable of.
"You tainted your bloodline by conceiving with a mortal woman. And now that child will grow up alongside the humans. He will be nurtured just like the rest of them, ignorant of his true powerful heritage!"
"Jeffrey will be just fine. He is human, so he deserves to be raised by a human family. That is something we can't provide for him at the moment. I can't take care of him myself due to the danger it might bring him."
"Then please allow me to raise him, Father! I will make sure he is brought up correctly-"
"NO!" The man shouted, which shocked his daughter. "You may be millenia old but you are not fit to raise a child. You intend to make him into a bloodthirsty warrior and killer. I will not allow that. He will be raised by a mortal family, who will nurture good morals and values into him. When the time is right, he shall be made aware of his heritage. But not now. And that is final. If you even go anywhere near him or his family, I won't hesitate to end you." He looked at his daughter with a ferocity she had never seen from him before.
She gasped, "You would destroy your own daughter?!" For as long as she existed, she was always shown love and care from her father. To now hear that he would dare even lay a finger on her made her begin to question his sanity
"If it is to protect my son? I'll do whatever it takes. I will sacrifice anything and everything for him. So don't you dare test me. You may be powerful, daughter, but don't forget who it was that gifted you all of that power."
She sighed. There was no winning against this. She had no choice but to concede to the might of her father. "So be it. Fine, I'll respect your wishes and leave my brother alone for now. But as compensation, once he is of age, I will come for him and take him as my husband. I have to make sure our bloodline isn't anymore tainted and to keep it as pure as possible.
Her father shrugged, "Fine by me. I give you my blessing. Just hope that he doesn't already have a mate or two by the time you come to claim him."
She scoffed at the thought, "As if any mortal woman can compare to me. He will most likely inherit your intelligence. He will know that I am clearly the most qualified to be his bride. And if he can't let go of any mates that he may already have up to that point, then I'll allow him to keep them as concubines."
"Good luck with that. You may have to fight for him."
"Then I'll burn any whore who dares try to take my husband from me."
She then disappeared in a burst of blue flames.
The man sighed as his daughter left, "Sorry, that I have to put you through this, Jeffrey. You will face many hardships, but I know you will grow into a strong enough man to overcome those hardships. I know you will. Because you are my son. The son that I have always wanted since the beginning of Creation. The Child that will change this world."
"The Child of Destiny."
Present Day…. Hyoudou Residence
I've seen a lot of weird stuff throughout my two lives. Especially during my current one. I mean, I am in the world of Supernatural aren't I? I'm bound to see some crazy stuff during my tenure in this universe. Hell, I've only been here for 17 years and I've already witnessed some spooky shit. Or shit that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Like zombie dungeons dropping gold or ancient artifacts even though they should be dead. Or crazy killer robots that want to take control of all time and space.
But this? This was just different.
I've pretty much made it a daily routine to Lucid Dream. Mainly to level it up as much as possible and to practice my manifestation skill. Also it was just fun as hell.
So on the night before my first day back at school, I decided, yeah let's Lucid Dream. Cuz why not?
As soon as the Lucid Dreaming began… I was not expecting to see what I saw.
A giant crimson western Dragon fighting against an equally as large black Lion.
The dragon had to be 100 feet tall with how huge he looked. Crimson scales and golden eyes. His wings were massive and his claws looked sharp enough to cut right through steel like butter. He was spitting fire at the large Lion, but the feline countered with his own flames, only his were pure dark. They cancelled each other out as they both stared each other down looking for a weakness.
"I already told you! I was here first. This boy's vessel is mine and there is no space for felines in here." Roared the Dragon with authority.
"Have you never heard of conquest before, reptile? Everything the light touches is my kingdom! So get out of here before I bite your wings off!" The Lion roared back with equal were backing down and it seemed as though no one was going to concede anytime soon. They were evenly matched. Neither the Dragon nor the Lion had the upper hand on the other.
Of course, I was confused. When I entered the Lucid Dream, I didn't intend on dreaming about Lions and Dragons fighting each other. I wanted to practice my new Senjutsu powers that I learned yesterday in the forest. But it was gonna be pretty hard to focus when two beasts kept trying to kill each other and roaring at the other.
"Observe," I said as I inspected the two behemoths and what I found intrigued me.
[Dragon Spirit Animal: Among animal spirit guides, the Dragon is arguably the most ancient and imposing. The Dragon is the symbol of Primordial Power. The last sentence of the description of the Lion Spirit made my eyes widen in realization. I opened my menu and went to a page that showed my quest rewards. I remember dismissing it as soon as I finished sparring with Kuroka and forgot to look at it once she left. I looked at the rewards for the Red Dragon Vs Black Cat and my suspicion was confirmed.
[Congratulations for successfully completing the Quest!
You gained..
10,000 XP
Increased reputation with Kuroka (Plus 20)
High chance of Kuroka wanting to be your mate (Increased from 10% to 55%)
Hidden Reward: You gained the Lion's Spirit due to consuming the flames of a Nekomata. More information is within the Lion's Spirit Perks page.]
That… actually makes a lot of sense. Whenever I consume fire, I gain the properties and powers of that specific flame. At least that's how my [Fire Dragon Slaying Magic] describes it. I didn't think much of it at the time I ate Kuroka's flames, but they must have been empowered by Senjutsu, which is powered by Spirit Energy. That would snowball into me gaining the [Lion's Spirit]. The [Dragon's Spirit] was pretty self explanatory. I use fire magic and I used Dragon Sage Mode, so that made sense.
Either one of these spirits would be amazing to have. Just going off by the short descriptions of each, they provide amazing power and benefits and the Gamer System speaks very highly of them. Pretty much putting them at the top of Spirit Animals when taking into account, power, and what they bring to the table. I haven't even looked at the full list of perks they each give you, but I had a feeling that they would be long lists.
However… While these two spirits are great individually, if you put them together, there will be issues.
Both Lions and Dragons are very Prideful creatures. They are apex predators, top of the food chain, and the Alpha of the pack. There is a reason why they say you can't have more than one Alpha. Because, you get situations like this, where neither one of them will bow down to the other. The amount of ego will just be too much to function. In a Lion's Pride, there is only one adult male Lion and he is the leader and alpha of the group. There are exceptions to this rule where two male brothers lead a Pride. But even those are pretty rare and seldom work out. And you already know Dragons don't fuck with anybody. They are solitary creatures who hide their treasure and kill anyone who messes with them. They think they are the strongest creatures and have no problem proving it. The same also applies to Lions in that regard.
And now I have to deal with an overgrown Lion and Dragon trying to kill each other in my subconscious.
"YO!" I shouted as loud as I could. My shout got their attention as they stopped sizing each other up to look at me.
"Hey there, the name's Jeffrey. I couldn't help but notice that two large mythical creatures are in here trying to kill one another. Mind explaining why?" I asked even though I already knew the answer.
"I was here first, but this overgrown cat decided that he can just waltz up in here and take a host even though it's already been claimed." The Dragon answered me first as he regarded the jet black Lion with disgust.
"And this overgrown lizard is so arrogant to the point where he thinks he can overpower the King of the Jungle." The Lion roared.
"Arrogant? Your kind is literally the symbol of Pride, you fool! Your arrogance is the reason we're having this skirmish to begin with. You can't accept the fact that there may be someone else more powerful than you and that you're NOT entitled to rule over everything!" The Dragon roared back with ferocity. They were yelling so loud that I had to cover my ears. The battle of egos wasn't for the sensitive of hearing.
"As if! You wish you were anywhere near my level of power!"
"Then how come we've been stuck in a stalemate?"
"OKAY OKAY, ENOUGH!" I yelled to once again get their attention. Seeing the two bicker back and forth was getting annoying real fast and I had to deescalate the situation.
"This isn't getting anywhere at all. Hearing you two argue is starting to make my ears hurt. I think I understand the issue here. You two think you're the alpha and that you deserve to be the one and only spirit guide residing within me, correct?"
"Naturally. I was here first and you are more fit to be guided by a Dragon. You are the perfect host for our kind considering your level of strength and overall potential. You only need one guide and I should be more than enough. You don't require the guide of whiskers over there." The Dragon's Spirit exclaimed with confidence. When they said Dragons were proud, they weren't kidding.
"Nonsense! This young man requires the guidance of a true King and leader! Dragons are neither of those. They are selfish and greedy creatures who only care about their treasure and desires! I can offer you the bravery and strength needed to craft your Destiny. And that's only the tip of the iceberg. This lizard knows not what he says." The Lion's Spirit said with pride as he growled at the Dragon, seemingly appalled at the notion of Dragons being superior to Lions in any way, shape, or form.
"Dragons are the pinnacle of power! You are the one who's ignorant! You will only lead this young man to the pit of Pride and arrogance. Which, by the way, is the worst sin."
"Just because Lucifer fell does not mean Pride is the worst thing to come to Man. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Sin of Wrath responsible for just as many bad deeds, if not more, than the Sin of Pride?"
"That is a lie and you know it! Dragons only act in anger when provoked!"
"I can make the same argument, you know!"
"No you can't!"
And there they go again. Seriously could these two not have a conversation without insulting the other? I can't believe these two were so self-centered. Well I guess it's understandable given to what I was dealing with.
"Okay, settle down. So what are we going to do about this? I can't have you two arguing all day in my head. We need to find a solution." I spoke up, causing the two to give me their attention again.
The Lion was the first to respond, "Well, we are always going to be in a stalemate, so I guess the only choice you have is to choose one of us."
I frowned, "I have to choose?"
The Dragon nodded, "Indeed. Since you are the vessel we are inhabiting, technically you're the boss of us and you get to decide which animal spirit you want to guide you throughout your journey. Once you choose which one of us you prefer, the other will be forced out of your spirit and will have no choice but to look for another host."
"But I don't wish to look for another host. There is something special about this boy that is unlike the rest. Your chi is strong and its potential has yet to be seen."
It felt nice to be complimented by a Lion Spirit. I laughed as I said, "There isn't really anything all that special about me."
"Humility? That is the greatest quality a man can have. If you wish to keep that, then you don't want the Lion as your guide." The Dragon snorted.
"And if you don't want anger management issues, it is in your best interest to stick with me rather than the lizard."
"WHY YOU-"
"STOP! I think I get it. Okay so I just have to choose one of you and that's it?"
"Yes, but choose wisely. You'll be stuck with one of us for the rest of your life."
"So you better pick me instead of that angry reptile!"
I hummed in thought. Looking over the description of the two spirits, it was hard to just choose one. Both had benefits and it will be a shame to not reap the other. They were equally as powerful, so it was kinda impossible to choose. I then had an idea that could solve this issue.
"Is it too much to have both?"
The two animal spirits looked at me in silence for a few seconds and then looked at each other. They looked back at me with troubled faces, as if I had grown a second head.
"Uh, is there something on my face?"
"Do you realize what you're suggesting?" The Dragon's Spirit asked.
"No?"
"It is rare for one person to inhabit more than one animal spirit. It's even rarer to have two alpha animal spirits. Especially a Lion and Dragon, the two most powerful and proud animal spirits. I don't think there's been a person in history who has had both. The sheer power and backlash could kill you if you're not fit to handle it." The Lion said as he pointed his paw at me. I gulped thinking of my body breaking down due to the force of the two mighty beasts being inside of me. But then I realized something.
"Wait a minute, but you two are technically inside of me now. And I don't feel any pain or anything."
The Dragon and the Lion were both speechless for a few moments before looking at each other again and then looking back at me.
"That's a good point." They both spoke at the same time.
"You should either be going insane from the pure power or your body breaking down due to the immense pressure of our spirits. You must have some ability that negates that." The Lion said as he and Dragon were seemingly impressed at my ability to be able to house both of their spirits at the same time.
It must be due to [The Gamer's Body] and [The Gamer's Mind]. It makes sense given that I am immune to psychological effects and my body is that of a video game character so it won't suffer permanent damage. Man, that shit is overpowered.
"So does this mean I get to keep both of you?" I asked the two Great Animal Spirits as I looked at them expectantly.
"Hmmm… even if your body and mind can somehow withstand housing both of our spirits, do you still believe that is a wise choice? There is a reason why it is said that there can't be two Alphas. We may not be able to cooperate with each other, and our incompatibility may taint your spirit and thus make it difficult for you to go about using your powers."
"The Dragon knows what he speaks. There have been many instances where people lost control due to only having just ONE spirit animal. I believe you will be the first in history to house a Dragon and Lion spirit. The risk could be far too great."
The two behemoths looked down on me awaiting my response. I took some time to myself to weigh my options. This could very well be risky, but all great men took risks in order to be great. And in a world where there are many super powered beings and I may not know what to expect, I need to take every advantage I can get. Call me opportunistic and overly ambitious all you want, but if you were in my shoes, what would you do?
"Yeah, it is pretty risky. But no guts no glory, right? I believe the payoff is worth the risk. Plus I'm confident in myself to handle whatever challenges come my way. It won't hurt to have two badass spirit animals to help me along the way." I replied with assurance. The two animals looked at me with smirks, showing their pointy teeth.
"It seems as though we struck gold with this one."
"Agreed. This mortal's aura and drive is special. I like it"
"Just think about it, too. You two are very strong individually, but put them together? It's a wrap! There's no limit to what we can accomplish!" I exclaimed.
"The kid's got a point. So what do you say? Wanna call a truce?" The Dragon asked.
"I guess we can both swallow our Pride and see how this works out."
The Lion reached out his paw to the Dragon's claw. As soon as they both made contact, a pop up appeared.

[Mastery]
[Insight]

[Invisibility]
That is… a lot. Thank God for [The Gamer's Mind] or else I wouldn't be able to process it all. There was just so much good shit. I wanted to look deep into each of the perks in detail but I'll probably do it later.
Another window popped up, with more perks.
[Sin of Wrath: The Dragon's Sin of Wrath is what the mythical creatures are known for. It is commonly advised to never intentionally provoke a Dragon. For their fury and anger will propel them to chase you to the ends of the Earth. Don't. Piss. Them. Off. This perk grants 50 times multiplier to STR, DEX, and VIT, whenever the user becomes enraged. However, INT and WIS will suffer a 30% debuff. The buff and debuff can increase depending on the severity and volume of the rage. Higher amounts of rage will propel Overdrive to activate.]
[Sin of Pride: The Lion's Sin of Pride is what defines the King of the Jungle. It is their most treasured power. It is what gives their leadership and drive to rule over all. The lion totem urges you not to bow to intimidation. You are not a pushover. Let people know that you are not a person to be messed with.
The Lion animal spirit in your life means that you have the ability to create your own Destiny. As such, do not be afraid to turn your dreams into reality. This perk will give you the will to always find a way to win no matter what. Grants 20 times multiplier to CHA as a passive. It will also give a 50% boost in any competition. However, a drawback will be that your stats will suffer a debuff if overused.]
As I read over the description of the perks, I couldn't help but grin. I knew I made the right choice to accept both of the spirit animals. The only issue is that I gotta be careful with the drawbacks of said perks. They don't seem too crazy but if I overuse them, I could make a mistake in my own fury and arrogance.
"These perks are amazing! It doesn't really get much better than this!"
I heard a ping which prompted another screen to come up.
[Enhanced Libido: While Lions and Dragons are most notably known for their undeniable strength, mystic, and power, another fundamental aspect is their libido and habit of taking upon multiple partners. Adult male Lions typically lead a Pride which is filled with a couple of Lionesses, who he mates with and produces offspring with each of them. This is done to make sure that the Alpha's bloodline is extended as much as possible and so it doesn't die off since most Lion cubs end up dying whether it be by predators, other male Lions taking over a Pride, or just not surviving after they get kicked out by their initial Pride. Male Dragons, male Dragon hosts, or male wielders of a Dragon Type Sacred Gear, more often than not, form harems of their own, whether it be with Dragonesses or females of other races, mortal and immortal. This is actually necessary since Dragons have abysmal birth rates, the lowest among all of the Supernatural races. It could be millenia before a Dragon couple is able to conceive. So naturally they will have very high libidos in order to increase their chances of reproducing. The more powerful a Dragon is, the higher the libido, and thus the larger the harem would be. However, you won't suffer from the Sin of Lust, since Dragons and Lions actually love their mates and will protect them at all costs. A Dragon or Lion's harem is never filled with just purely sexual partners.
Since you now hold both the spirit of a Dragon and Lion, this perk will grant you an enhanced libido greater than that of a Dragon or Lion. 50% passive increase to CHA and 50% more attraction from the opposite sex. Your body will produce pheromones that can and will attract powerful, sexy, and at times even dangerous females. This does not mean every female you see will fall head over heels for you. It will only amplify any attraction that was already there. So don't worry, females that you have purely platonic relationships with, such as your mother, won't be affected by this.]
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" I screamed at the top of my lungs after reading the description for the last perk. I didn't ask for this! Well granted, I should have known since Dragons and Lions did in fact form harems. It is a major reason why Issei in cannon attracted a plethora of attractive women in the anime and light novel. And me having both a Dragon Spirit and Lion Spirit inside of me would enhance that but Jesus Christ, those perks were crazy, like what the Hell!
[Gamer's Mind Activated]
Okay, I need to calm down. That scream was unnecessary, but how else was I supposed to react?
"Why are you screaming?" The Dragon spirit asked as both of the animals looked at me with puzzled faces. They probably couldn't see the Gamer ability so to them, I just started screaming out of nowhere.
"Well, I just found out that since I have both of your spirits inside of me, I'm going to have an enhanced libido and will attract many powerful and beautiful women. And I'll produce pheromones that will increase that attraction by 50%."
"Oh okay," He replied nonchalantly.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN OH OKAY?"
The Lion shrugged his shoulders, "Well, we did say there would be side effects if you accepted both of us your spirit guides. Plus, you're acting as if it's a bad thing. I had a harem when I was in my original body. And I'm pretty sure he did as well. It will only make sense for you to have one as well given your power, and housing both of our spirits."
"You gotta be kidding me right now.." I mumbled as he looked up at both of them dumbfounded at their laid back attitude on this issue. Well, I guess to them it wasn't anything crazy. Like the description said, harems were hardly rare, especially in the world of DxD.
"Why are you complaining? Aren't you a teenage boy? I would assume you would be jumping in joy in having the ability to garner multiple lovers. You're making it seem as though it were a punishment. Any red blooded male would take this in stride. I know I would. Show some gratitude. You have the spirit of a Dragon and a Lion inside of you. No other mortal in history has been able to accomplish this. Just be happy you're not dead." The Dragon grunted as a puff of smoke came out of his nostrils.
I sighed, "Fine, I'll drop it." It's not their fault anyway. It's Bungie's for implementing that stupid perk.
[Hey, you said 13 years ago that you wouldn't be leaving any opportunities on the table, so I don't want to hear any complaining coming out of your mouth. Don't act like you wouldn't want a harem either way.]
Oh would you shut up?
[No.]
I looked up at the two animal spirits, "So do you two have a name? I don't want to refer to you as just Dragon or Lion all the time."
They both shook their head, "Animal spirits forget their original names. Usually their hosts will give them a name." Dragon replied
I smirked, "Well then, I got just the perfect names for you two." I pointed at Dragon, "I'm gonna call you Igneel." Then I turned to the Lion, "And your name will be Mufasa!"
"Cool."
"Fine by me."
I nodded at their approval of their new names, "Okay so since you two got your names, and the link has been established, I'm gonna wake up now. I have to prepare to go to school soon."
"Oh yeah, I forgot that you mortals have a compulsory education system." Mufasa said.
"Or as I like to call it, Prison."
[You have slept in your own bed. Your HP and MP are back to 100%. Any ailments have been cured.]
"Well that was an experience." I groaned as I sat up from my bed. Seeing a Dragon and Lion fighting in your mind and then accepting them both as my spirit animals was definitely not what I was expecting when I fell asleep. Then seeing all of those perks that I got as a result? Phew, those are going to be fun to play with. Literally.
Also the [Enhanced Libido] was a little much but I guess I just have to deal with it for now.
A ping sounded as a blue screen lit up in front of me.
[Thanks to your new abilities you've gained due to connecting with your spirit guides, you can now see this information when observing people.]
[Alignment]
[Reputation]
[Affection]
Oh, some new info I get from Observe. Seems interesting, let me check these out.
[Alignment: This will show a person's morality alignment. It is a valuable piece of information when gauging a person's moral compass and what type of person they are and if they can be trusted. Please note that a person's alignment can change whether it be through growth or a regression. Experiences and nurturing can positively or negatively affect someone's alignment. No one is born good or evil. It is our experiences that shape us and make us who we are.]
That's pretty damn useful. It makes it easier to determine one's character and how good or evil someone is. Wait a minute, what's my alignment?
[Your alignment is: Lawful Good. You have a black and white morality.]
Lawful Good? Hmm, I guess that matches me. I am pretty by the book. I just hope it doesn't mean I can't be morally flexible in some extreme circumstances. Although I do always wish to do the right thing, so Lawful Good ain't bad.
[Reputation: Reputation shows you how many points out of 100 you are respected by a person or group. The more points you have, the more respected you are and vice versa.]
"That's interesting… what's my reputation?"
[Hyoudou Residence: 100/100- Loved]
[Kuoh Academy: 75/100- Respected]
[?: 65/100- Respected]
[?:50/100- Neutral]
[?: 50/100- Neutral]
[If you wish to see your reputation with specific people, you will either have to observe them or ask me with their name.]
Well, that's weird. Why were there question marks? I guess those were for people I didn't know yet or I'm not supposed to know. Hyoudou residence was self explanatory, given that they were my immediate family members. It seems as though I am decently respected in school. It's good to see I made a nice impression. Can't say the same thing for my brother though.
"Show me what [Affection] is all about."
[Affection: This shows how many points out of 100, someone loves you romantically or platonically. When you observe a person, the stat will be specific if the person loves you romantically or platonically. This status and reputation can change however depending on your actions and decisions. So be careful when making choices and consider who they might affect.]
"Alright, thanks Bungie."
[You're welcome! Oh and heads up]
"What do you mean-"
"Issei! Jeffrey! Are you two up yet? You're going to be late on your first day of school! Hurry up and get ready!" I heard my mom call out. I looked at the clock on my nightstand to see that she was right. If we didn't hurry up, we wouldn't get there on time.
[NEW QUEST ALERT!]

[Failure: Embarrassment and a bad start to the new school year]
[Accept/Decline]
[Declining this quest will make you automatically fail it]
I quickly tapped on [Accept] and got dressed as quickly as I could. I went to my closet which I had my school uniform in. It looked exactly the same as it did in the anime. I put it on, but noticed something was off.
You see, last year, I purposely picked out the uniform in a size that will make it look baggy on me so that my defined body wouldn't be shown from the imprints of the clothes. I know, call me weird, but I'm the kind of guy who doesn't really like all that much attention. And in a school where there was an overwhelming majority of female students, I already knew the type of looks I would get if I wore a size that I was actually supposed to wear.
But for some reason, this uniform wasn't baggy at all. I filled it out completely.
"What the… How is this possible? Oh wait… that's right. Mom was the one who picked out the uniform for us this year. But I thought I specifically told her the size- oh you know what nevermind. I gotta hurry or I'll be late."
I made sure I had everything I needed, school supplies, bag, phone, etc. Even though technically, I didn't need a bag since I could just dump all of my supplies in my inventory. But it would be weird for a student to go to school without a book bag. And it will be even weirder if people saw a student pull a notebook out of thinair.
Right before I walked out of my bedroom, I turned to look at the photo frame on my nightstand. It was an image of me, Issei, and our late grandfather. Who passed away 2 year ago.
Time really flies. It's been two years already. I remember the day he died. I was really sad. We all were. I experienced the death of a grandparent in my original life. I thought it wouldn't have hurt as it did the first time, especially since I knew it was going to happen. But the pain was still as sharp as ever. Like a knife piercing your heart. Even with [Gamer's Mind] it was difficult to maintain my emotions for a few weeks. All of the birthday presents he got me throughout the years now have infinitely more value. And for some reason his death fueled my drive to keep getting stronger and stronger. His death motivated me to reach my potential and to never stop improving. Because I know it would be what he wanted. After I got that spark of motivation, I got a ping that said I made progress in my [Become The Very Best] quest. After I got over my initial grief, I went inside the Dungeons each and every single day without fail. Grinding every day and night, leveling up as fast as possible. I couldn't afford to be weak. I had to be strong… in his Honor.
"I promise I won't let you down gramps… doing my best to make you proud." I said somberly. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and then headed downstairs for breakfast.
As soon as I came into view, my mother smiled as she saw me wearing my filled out uniform, "Well look at how handsome you look! Good morning Jeffrey, are you ready for your first day back?"
"Good morning Kaa-san. And yes I am ready to go back to school, but I'm pretty sure you intentionally changed something about my uniform didn't you? Why did you not get the size I asked for?" I asked with a frown as I took a seat at the table. Issei and Dad were already seated. The former eating his breakfast and the latter reading a newspaper. Who still reads newspapers these days? Oh it's an anime and he's old so I guess it's whatever.
"Because this size fits you better. I don't understand why you would try to wear baggy clothes when you look much better when you fill them out." She replied as she took her own seat at the table and began to eat her breakfast.
'Yeah that's kind of the point,'' I thought as I also began to eat my meal. French toast with eggs was on the menu. A very western breakfast dish but our family likes it.
"Do you plan on joining any sports teams this year or any other competitions?" My mom asked.
"No. I think I'll just stick to Chess Club and that's it." I replied, taking a bite of the French Toast. I hummed at the good taste. Ever since I became The Gamer, I technically don't need to eat food anymore thanks to [Gamer's Body], but I still enjoy the taste and pleasure. Plus it would be suspicious if I don't just eat anything at all and still be completely fine.
"I don't get why you work out so much, just to not join any of the sports teams. I've seen you run and play basketball. You would be a killer." Issei spoke up after swallowing a bite of scrambled eggs.
I shrugged my shoulders, "Guess I'm just not interested."
Well that was half true. The real reason I didn't do any of that stuff was because I felt as though it was unfair. At my current level, competing against people who were level 5-10 would honestly be a slaughter. Even though I'm in the Chess Club, I don't compete in any of the tournaments because I know it would be way too easy and it just wouldn't be fun. I would have to hold myself back so much to make it even look competitive. Also, like I mentioned earlier, I'm not the type of guy who likes to have so much attention on me. And it would definitely bring a lot of attention if I just rolled all of the competition. Plus to me, it was kind of an abuse of my power and using it irresponsibly. I'm supposed to use it for good, not to feed my own ego. It did get annoying though when Sona Sitri kept challenging me to a chess match, and I had to duck every time.
"Issei's right, you really should start looking into some more hobbies." Mom added.
"I have plenty of hobbies, what do you mean?" I asked with a quirked eyebrow as I placed a boiled egg in my mouth.
"Going on walks everyday for hours at a time and locking yourself in your room doing God knows what experiments aren't really that many hobbies, Jeffrey."
Oh if only you knew.
"Well at least I'm not a porn addict like Issei," I said smugly and grinned at my brother's reaction.
"What did you say?!" He yelled at me half angry and half embarrassed.
"Are you really going to try to deny it? Bro, please, everyone knows you're the super pervert. Literally the reason you said we should go to Kuoh Academy was because of the high female to male ratio."
"What?!" Mom looked at Issei with stern eyes, "Issei, is this true?"
"Uhhh… maybe.." He nudged me with his elbow and whispered in my ear, "You were not supposed to say that~"
"Oh really? My bad, then." I said innocently while internally laughing at his embarrassment.
"I hate you."
"Love you too."
"You know, that is kind of smart on Issei's part. But your mother is right. Jeffrey, you should really try to socialize more. Maybe get a girlfriend or two, I don't know." Dad spoke up, still not putting the newspaper down.
"Or two?!" Mom stared daggers at her husband, "What are you driving into the boy's head?"
"Hey, I'm just saying! I'm trying to help you out here!"
"Our son doesn't need to be a player though!"
Technically, I already am a player. Get it? Because I'm The Gamer?
[Your jokes are lame.]
Shut up Bungie.
"You see, even your mortal father says there's nothing wrong with more than one mate," I heard Igneel's voice in my head. He and Mufasa must be able to speak to me telepathically through my subconscious.
'Well of course he says that. His dream was literally to have a harem, just like his father before him.' I replied mentally. It seems as though I can talk to him in my head.
"Did they succeed?" Mufasa asked, joining the conversation.
'Obviously not.' I laughed inwardly. 'And now my brother has the same dream.'
"I'll get a girlfriend when Issei gets one," I told my parents in the middle of their bickering.
"Not gonna happen," they both said simultaneously.
"Damn bro, not even our own parents have faith in you."
"Why you-"
Issei started to throw punches at me, but I casually blocked them with one hand, while I continued to eat my toast.
"Hey, no fighting at the table! Hurry up and finish your food so that you can make it to school on time. I better not get a call saying that either one of you was late to class."
We finished our breakfast as quickly as we could and then said our goodbyes as we headed our way towards school. I took out my headphones and started listening to music on my phone on the way. One nifty ability that I learned was that I was able to store any song into my phone from the real world that I remember from my previous life. I put on Come Closer by A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and enjoyed the walk with Issei to school. It was only about a 10 minute walk from our house. We were relatively close so we didn't need to take a bus or anything.
"You think this year is gonna be better than Freshman Year?" Issei asked as we were nearing the school.
"Yeah I would bet on it. I think some very interesting things will happen this year," I was of course alluding to the Supernatural shenanigans we are going to encounter during this year. To my knowledge, cannon will probably start in a few months or so. Which means I will have a little time to relax before shit goes down. The calm before the storm if you will. Issei still hasn't unlocked his Sacred Gear. I want him to be way stronger than he was in the original timeline. If that's gonna happen, he'll probably need a head start. But I couldn't figure out a way to forcibly unlock his Sacred Gear. And until that happens, he won't be getting any more stronger. And it's not like I could just tell him about the Supernatural. For one, he won't believe me, and for two, I want him to enjoy the simple and normal life for as long as he can. Because once his Sacred Gear awakens, life will only become more complicated from there on out.
"Hopefully. Last year kinda stunk if you ask me."
"That's because you were getting beaten up by girls the whole year since you earned yourself a reputation for being a shameless pervert."
"Hey, at least I'm honest and open about my passion! The female body is just too perfect to not want to gaze at!" Issei exclaimed as he went on one of his long perverted rants that I've gotten used to over the years. I just shook my head, smiling at my brother's antics. Yeah, he can get annoying sometimes with his perverted nonsense, but he wouldn't be Issei if he didn't.
"I'll give you that. You don't hide what you're passionate about. You are honest and open. That's pretty rare nowadays."
A few minutes later, we finally arrived at the entrance of Kuoh Academy. It looked just as grand as it did in the anime. It really was a big and beautiful school. Well that was mainly because it went from elementary all the way to college. But that still doesn't take away from its impressive architecture.
There were many students making their way into the entrance. Many people recognized us as we usually walk to school together due to us being brothers. However I couldn't help but notice that more than a few girls were staring at me, giggling, whispering to each other as they pointed at me. Whenever I made eye contact with them, they immediately turned the other way with their faces turning red. Thanks to my enhanced hearing, I was able to hear exactly what they were whispering. Some said, "Did he work out over the break?" Or, "Why does he look so hot?"
I also heard some… indecent language that I will not repeat.
'This must be because of that damn [Enhanced Libido] perk. 50% more attraction from the opposite sex is a lot more than I imagined. And what's worse is now since my uniform isn't baggy anymore, I'll get even more attraction cuz of the damn stupid perk.' I ranted in my head as I kept on trying to ignore the lustful gazes I was getting from the female population of Kuoh Academy.
"The pheromones will only amplify attraction or feelings that were already present. So if they are all checking you out now, it's because they already thought you were attractive before but the pheromones just gave it a big push." Mufasa grunted out. He and Igneel were chuckling at my mental rambling.
"Yeah, relax kid. It ain't the end of the world. We told you there would be side effects for linking us as both of your spirit guides and this appears to be one of the side effects. It honestly could be a lot worse." Igneel added.
'Really? Like what?' I asked, really curious as to what would be a worse side effect than this.
"Well you easily could have become a Lion and Dragon hybrid. Making you lose your humanity and become a savage beast that only knows and wants destruction." Igneel bluntly pointed out. He said it so casually as if something similar to that had already happened.
'Point taken.' I shuddered at that thought. He's right, it could have definitely been a lot worse. I couldn't begin to imagine myself as a monster like that. I enjoy being human and sane, thank you very much! I really gotta thank [Gamer's Mind] and [Gamer's body].
[Don't forget about Gamer's Spirit. That played a big part in the linking process as well. It's the reason you get so many abilities from the spirit guides in the first place.]
Oh yeah, that's right. I didn't level up that skill as much as possible for nothing.
"Why are so many of the ladies staring at you with blushing faces? Why can't I get that kind of attention?" Issei whined in jealousy. Witnessing this must have been a nightmare for him. Isn't it kind of ironic that I don't want all of this attention and yet I'm getting all of it and not Issei who lusts after it?
"I don't know. Stop whacking it and maybe they'll start paying attention to you too."
"Oh, shut up."
As soon as we stepped inside the school, we made our way to the student council's office to pick up our class schedules. As soon as we entered the office, Mufasa and Igneel immediately sent signals to my head to warn me.
"Well if it isn't my favorite pair of brothers," Sona Sitri, or as she is known by the general school populace, Souna Shitori said as she greeted us by her desk. She looked just as she did in the anime and light novel. Short, black bob cut hair with violet eyes which were paired with glasses. She wore the standard Kuoh Academy uniform for girls. On her desk were the class schedules for all of the second year students, which she had to give out when the students visited her office before class. Not too far from her, was her vice president, and Queen, Tsubaki Shinra. She, like her King, had black hair but hers was long and flowing all the down to her knees. She had heterochromic eyes, with a violet left eye and a light brown right eye. She wore blue, semi-rimmed glasses with square lenses. Besides the length of their hair, the most major difference that separates the President and Vice President of the Student Council were their chest areas. While Sona's was much more modest, Tsubaki's was much more developed. Regardless of that, Sona was still in the top three of most popular girls in Kuoh Academy, with Tsubaki coming up right behind her in fourth place. Tsubaki had her own desk and had the class schedules of third years sorted in alphabetical order by last name, just like Sona's.
"Careful, kid. Those two are Devils. Strong ones at that." Igneel told me, warning me to be cautious.
'Yes, I am aware. This school is actually run by Devils. You see the girl with the short hair? She's actually the heiress of the House of Sitri, one of the 72 pillars of the Underworld. And get this, she's the younger sister of Serafall Leviathan. One of the Four Great Satans.' I explained to Igneel, which made him and Mufasa gulp in nervousness, hearing of Sona's prestigious heritage.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS? You're in dangerous territory! And you go to school here?!" Mufasa exclaimed. Him being a Lion, it made sense as to why he would be cautious since Lions tend to try to avoid dangerous territories in the wild.
'Calm down, guys. Yes, I know I am in Devil Territory, but they only know me as Jeffrey Hyoudou. A normal teenage boy with no knowledge of the Supernatural. Same goes for Issei. However, I believe they suspect that Issei has a Sacred Gear. But he doesn't know anything about the Supernatural, yet. We just go to school here, like regular people.' I had to reason with the two. Yes, I was going to school with some pretty important individuals, but it's not like I'm an enemy to them. And I wasn't technically affiliated with any faction, so they had no reason to suspect me of anything.
"Even so… You should still be cautious. If you, for any reason, start problems with her, then there is no telling what her older sister will do to you. I hear she's super overprotective of her younger sibling.. Same goes for Sirzechs Lucifer with his little sister." Igneel warned me.
'Oh yeah, his younger sister comes to school here too.'
"Oh you gotta be kidding me!" The Dragon Spirit sweatdropped as I could hear him drop to the floor in my mind. "Kid, you got balls coming to school, knowing all of that!"
'Relax, will you? It's not like I'm going to start any trouble. Besides, it was my brother's idea to come here in the first place.'
"Good morning senpai." Both me and Issei said to her as we walked over to her desk. "You have our schedules?" I asked the Sitri Heiress.
"I sure do." She looked towards the section marked with an H. After a few seconds of going through the papers, she found our respective schedules and handed them to us.
"You are both in class 2-B. Your homeroom teacher is Ms. Yeom."
"Thank you, Senpai." I politely said after we took the schedules from her hand.
"And can you please tell your brother to tone down the peeping this year? It is a hindrance to my work whenever I get complaints of Issei and his perverted antics." The Student Council President said with annoyance laced in her tone. She clearly didn't appreciate Issei's perverted passions. And it was understandable. It is kind of annoying.
"Yeah, don't worry, I'll keep an eye on him. I'll knock some sense into him." I assured Sona as I put in a little extra force when I patted Issei on the back, causing him to yelp in pain.
"Ow!"
Sona nodded, "Good. I expect to hear less reports and complaints then. If I find out he's peeping on the kendo club again this year, I'll have no choice but to discipline him." Her eyes glowed as she said that. I could sense a drip of killer intent in her voice.
"Scary…" Issei whispered in fear.
"Yeah, so you better calm down on the peeping." I whispered back. The killer intent she laced her voice with was a lot for someone like Issei's level, but for me, it wasn't scary at all, considering my level. Speaking of levels….

Background: Sona Sitri is a Pure-Blooded Devil and is the current Heiress of the House of Sitri, one of the 72 Pillars of the Underworld. She is the youngest daughter of Lord and Lady Sitri. Her older sister is Serafall Leviathan, who is one of the Four Great Satans. Due to becoming a Satan, Serafall lost her right to be the Heiress of the Sitri clan, so the right went immediately to Sona once she was born. She is close friends and rival of Rias Gremory, the current Heiress of the House of Gremory and the younger sister of Sirzechs Lucifer. Both she and Rias were tasked with overseeing the city of Kuoh, marking it their territory. They use Kuoh Academy as their base of operations and enter the school as regular students. So far, they have been doing a good job and have eliminated any threats to either the Underworld or the human population of Kuoh. Sona took this opportunity in order to prove herself as a High-Class Devil and mainly to get away from her overprotective and over loving sister. Her goals in life are to simply preserve the prestige of her clan and to one day, open a Rating Game School that is open to all regardless of their status. It is why she enjoys going to a human school such as Kuoh Academy, since it gives everyone an opportunity of education and isn't discriminatory towards low-class families. Something she wishes that one day, the Devil Society will learn from humans. Sona is very intelligent, but also very strict, not taking anything lightly. This made her the perfect candidate for Student Council President. She once had a Fiancé, due to an arranged marriage. But she was able to break the engagement via beating him in a game of chess. She claimed that she will
not marry a man who isn't as smart, or smarter than her. Which makes her options pretty limited since Sona is a genius in her own right. She did say that she will marry the man who beats her in a game of chess. That is unfortunate for her though, since she is a prodigy and she has never lost a game of chess since she was 5, and she actually does want a boyfriend, but she hasn't found a man who can defeat her in the board game.
Powers: Demonic Power, Water Magic, Magic Expert
Strengths: Sona's greatest talent is her seemingly unmatched skill in strategy making. She can make multiple strategies on the fly, which has earned her a title of Genius by her peers. Her IQ is of the highest in the Underworld, and the highest of her age group. Her genius intellect is the reason why she has been unbeatable in chess ever since she was a small child, with her friend Rias being the only who has come close to defeating her. As a descendant of the Sitri Clan, Sona is very proficient in water based magic. Due to her extremely high INT and WIS stats, she is a prodigy and expert when it comes to magic and magic techniques. Her control over her techniques surpasses that of Rias. Although her older sister far outclasses her, she can still handle herself pretty well during any encounter and shouldn't be underestimated.
Weaknesses: She's terrible at baking (but don't tell her that). Since she is a genius and a prodigy, she sometimes can be a little overconfident and it can borderline fall on the side of hubris. Especially when it comes to chess. She definitely needs to get humbled in that regard. While she's not weak, her physical strength and vitality does not compare to her intellect. Sona's biggest weakness is probably her older sister though. She gets embarrassed by her childish behavior and overbearing love that is bordering on incest. She immediately gets flustered whenever Serafall gets overprotective of her.
Opinion of Jeffrey: Sona has always found Jeffrey to be an interesting case. He gets perfect marks in all of his classes, and is easily the smartest student of his cohort, but he has never taken part in any academic competitions. She hears that he is undefeated in the chess club, but he doesn't participate in any tournaments. Every time Sona challenges Jeffrey to a game of chess, he either declines with a lame excuse or completely dodges it without fail. He is very introverted and keeps to himself, not really interacting with anyone besides his brother. Sona feels a very unique aura from Jeffrey, making him very suspicious of her. The aura coming off him is strong but it isn't like any Supernatural race she's encountered before. She suspects that he may have a Sacred Gear, just like his brother Issei. She has no idea what Sacred Gears they could have though. She will be keeping an eye on the Hyoudou duo. She finds Jeffrey to be an attractive guy, (which is what a lot of girls in the school think), and thinks he may be a good match for her due to his intellect. That is why she wants to play him in a game of chess so badly. To see if he is smart enough to be her boyfriend. It will be the only chess game she has ever played where she actually wants to lose.
Reputation: 70/100- Respected and thinks highly of you
Affection: 65/100- Romantically Interested
The first thing that stood out to me when I observed her were her INT and WIS stats. They were ridiculously high for a Level 55. She really is a genius to have so many points in those specific stats at her age and level. It's almost scary to think just how smart she is. She is a dangerous individual just based on her intellect alone.
She had a really noble dream. I remember how the Devil Society was portrayed when I read the light novels. They really discriminated against lower class Devils, especially reincarnated Devils. It definitely wasn't fair. Just because someone wasn't born into a noble family, that doesn't make them any less than another person. I really respect that goal of hers and I hope she's able to achieve it someday.
I frowned when I read that she was forced into an arranged marriage. Since the Great War, the Devils have lost over a third of their population and even lost more in the civil war. In order to replenish their numbers, the Evil Piece system was invented to reincarnate other races into Devils. Since then, the number of Pure-Blooded Devils kept on shrinking since Supernatural races like Devils had very low birth rates. It was so hard to conceive that a Pure-Blooded Devil couple will most likely only have 2 children max in their 10,000 year lifespan. So in order to make sure that the Pure-Bloods don't die out, they arrange marriages between high class Pure-Blooded families. It's the reason why Rias was forced into an arranged marriage with Riser Phenex, and it is most likely the same reason that Sona got forced into one as well. I'm glad that she was able to earn her freedom and break it off. No one should have an important decision like that chosen for them. You should have a right to choose who you want to marry and spend the rest of your life with. And it should be with someone you love.
I know I wouldn't like it if I was forced into an arranged marriage. That's for sure.
I was surprised when I saw her opinion of me. So that's why she doesn't leave me alone and keeps asking for a chess match? I mean, I'm flattered of course but Jesus Chirst, talk about a way to court someone.
Wait a second… a Princess (or pretty much the equivalent of one) is romantically interested in me. Yeah, I'm going to need to let that sink in for a while.
"Jeffrey, will you finally give me that chess game I've been asking for or are you just going to keep ignoring me?" Sona asked with a steel hard gaze. Her stare was practically daring me to choose the latter. I tried to think of another lame ass excuse but after reading her status, I started to have second thoughts. Should I not at least give her the respect and dignity to give her the match she wanted? She's been looking for a man who can challenge her and at this rate, I might be the only one to do that for her. Since Sona's IQ was so high, I doubt many other guys our age will ever come close to beating her in a game of chess. I wouldn't be surprised if she's past Grandmaster level. To deny her this… would be kind of cruel. The reason I've always dodged her was just because I didn't want any attention or cause any suspicion. But with this new information… I'm not sure anymore.
"I don't know why you don't just give her the match. It's not like she's going to stop asking you." Issei groaned, sounding as if he was getting tired of this as much as I was.
"Your brother is right. I won't."
'Of course you won't,' I sweatdropped at the Sitri Heiress's perseverance. She really isn't gonna let this one down isn't she?
"You've been playing and practicing chess ever since we were kids. You even beat our grandpa when you were just 4." Sona's eyebrow quivered when she heard Issei's words.
"Oh really?"
Oh no…
"Yeah, he's stupid good. I've never seen him lose a game. No matter how hard I try, I could never beat him. Well, I wasn't ever really that good but that's besides the point. He's a genius at that game."
"Genius?"
Issei, for once in your life, please shut up!
My brother nodded, "Yeah, and he does some weird experiments in his room. Sometimes I hear explosions. But he had built some pretty cool stuff. I remember when he built a computer from scratch when we were only 8 years old."
Oh, for the love of G-
Suddenly, Sona slammed her hands on her desk and stood up. She stared at me with the coldest and most calculating stare I've ever seen.
"Jeffrey Hyoudou, I demand you play a game of chess against me!"
She never lost eye contact with me. I stared at her with a neutral gaze.
"And if I refuse?"
She gave me a Devilish smirk, "I'll persuade you."
Judging from the tone of her voice, I don't think she meant the verbal kind of persuasion. I knew right then and there she wasn't going to let me leave this room without getting what she wanted. If I declined, she may use force, and if that happened, I would have to use force. And I didn't feel like revealing my powers yet.
So what do I do now?
"Just play the board game with the Devil girl and get it over with." Mufasa said. He and Igneel must have been watching all of this time.
"I agree. It's best to just settle this now and give her what she wants before things could possibly get any worse. Remember boy, her older sister is one of the Four Great Satans. No matter how powerful you currently believe you are, I doubt you want to deal with an individual on that level of strength right now. The wisest move is usually the diplomatic one, and in this case, it's accepting her request." Igneel gave his two cents before he and Mufasa went back to whatever they were doing.
I thought about it for a few more moments, before finally sighing.
"Fine."
I turned around and made my way towards the door out of the office. Issei and Sona were speechless. Most likely shocked that I actually said yes after saying no so many times.
"Hold on! Just so you know, if you hold back at all-"
"Wasn't planning too. I wouldn't want you to hold back against me, so I will give you the same respect. Let's head to class Issei."
"R-Right."
What did I just get myself into?
As soon as we entered our homeroom, a notification popped up in front of me.
[QUEST COMPLETED! Don't be late!]
[Rewards: 2,000 XP and a good start to the new school year!]
I dismissed the screen and made my way to take a seat all of the way at the back of the classroom. Away from the other students. Issei took a seat next to his two perverted friends, Matsuda and Motohama. They were cool guys. Yeah, they're overly perverted and shameless, but that didn't mean they were bad people. I stared out the window, waiting for the teacher to start class. School was pretty boring to be honest. I've already learned most of the material in my first life and going through all of it again was just monotonous repetition. Thanks to my Gamer abilities, I was able to memorize all of the textbooks and curriculum to the point where it was effortless to maintain good grades. I could graduate early if I wanted to, but one: my parents wouldn't let me and two: I needed to keep an eye on Issei and make sure nothing happens to him. He doesn't have his Sacred Gear awakened yet, so he couldn't really defend himself if he got attacked by somebody or whatever. Plus, you never know when something interesting could happen.
"Welcome back students! My name is Ms. Yeom and I'll be your Literature teacher for the year. I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break. Before we get started today, there is a new transfer student that would like to introduce themselves. You can come in now."
I heard the door open and footsteps coming into the classroom. But I honestly couldn't care less and kept my attention on staring at the window. This transfer student was probably a meaningless background character anyway.
"Hello everybody! My name is Yuma Amano! I'm new here so please treat me nicely. I hope we can have an amazing school year together!"
I fell out of my chair and busted my ass on the floor.
[-0.1 HP]
'HER NAME IS WHAT?!' I screamed so loud in my head that Igneel and Mufasa had to cover their ears.
"Oh boy…."
"I wonder why the kid is freaking out."
'Oh you have no idea…'
A/N: What's the best way to start off the New Year? With a new chapter, of course! I hope you guys had a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays. I know a lot of people had a hard year, so let's hope that 2021 will be better! I got a lot of content coming out for you guys this year so be ready! Thanks for the support you've shown for this story so far. This is my first time tackling the DxD/Gamer fandom, so I'm glad I've made a good impression so far. I appreciate it greatly.
So now I'm going to take the time to answer some questions you may have so that you don't have to ask them in a review or PM.
Q1: Why did you skip most of the 17 years between chapter 1 and chapter 2?
A: Be honest with me. Did you really want to read Jeffrey grinding and leveling up in dungeons for 17 years? I know I wouldn't. That would get pretty boring quickly for both the reader and me. I think it was better for the pacing of the story if I just skipped the majority of those years. Most of the major events in the DxD timeline take place when Issei was 17 years old and since, Jeffrey and Issei are the same age, then naturally that's where most of the major stuff would happen too. And as you can see by the ending of this chapter, Cannon has officially started. I will show flashbacks to when Jeffrey was younger though, as there were important events that happened before cannon started (It was already hinted with Jeffrey and Issei's Grandfather's death), so don't worry about that.
Q2: Will Jeffrey have a harem?
A: It's Highschool DxD. What do you think? The beginning of this chapter should have already made it obvious.
Q3: Who's in the Harem?
A: I'm not gonna make a list as I don't plan to have an upper limit to the number of harem members. But I think you guys can guess a few of the girls that are gonna be in his harem. I also intentionally made it so that even the typically, "impossible" or "unattainable" females of the DxD verse can still be possibly added to the harem.
Q4: What is Jeffrey's Current Level?
A: I intentionally left that vague. Don't worry it will be revealed soon. I want it to happen at a specific point. But next chapter, you will see some of the skills and abilities he's learned and mastered over the years. I'll only say this: Jeffrey has been training and grinding nearly everyday for 17 years straight and he has the [Manifestation] and [Lucid Dreaming] skills along with [The Gamer's Spirit]. Let that sink in for a minute. Just how strong do you think he would be now?
Q5: Will Issei have a harem?
A: Yes he will, since that is his dream. But it will be a different than in the cannon timeline.
Q6: Will Issei be a side character in this fic?
A: Definitely not. Even though he's not the MC in this story, that doesn't mean he won't have a major impact on the story and Jeffrey's development. Go back to chapter 2 and reread the details of the Red Dragon Duo Quest.
Q7: What is this fic's update schedule?
A: Well, I'm not really following a schedule. I'm pretty much posting whenever I get the time to write a chapter lol. Sorry that there have been large gaps of time in between chapters. I've been busy with school and I also have other stories to work on besides this one. I will try to update this story more consistently. Maybe Bi-weekly to monthly? BUT DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT! It is just a MAYBE.
Q8: Who's Bungie?
A: It's the name Jeffrey gave to the Gamer system. In this story, the Gamer is an actual sentient being that can communicate with Jeffrey. It's origins are unknown… and I'll be keeping it that way for a REALLY LONG time so don't ask! If you want to know where I got the name from, it's basically a reference to the game developer company called Bungie. They are most famous for the Halo series and the Destiny franchise, which is what this story's name is inspired by.
Q9: Why doesn't Jeffrey flirt and tease the girls back?
A: I remember I saw a review like this a while ago. He just needs to build his confidence first. He'll get there. I'm trying to make his development and growth realistic. But don't worry, the Sin of Pride perk is gonna help alot with that. Along with Enhanced Libido.
Q10: Will there be original arcs?
A: Of course!
