The Dragons who are friends
"today, we acknowledge a really terrible loss." Dumbledore was sitting in his chair in front of all three schools, he looked over them as he continued his speech, "Cedric Diggory was, as you all know, exceptionally hard-working, infinitely fair-minded, and most importantly, a fierce, fierce friend. Now, I think, therefore, you have the right to know exactly how he died." Dumbledore stood up and walked towards the rows of students as he continued, "you see… Cedric Diggory was murdered, by Lord Voldemort! The Ministry of Magic does not wish me to tell you this. But not to do so, I think, would be an insult to his memory. Now the pain we all feel at this dreadful loss reminds me, and reminds us, that while we may come from different places and speak in different tongues, our hearts beat as one. In light of recent events, the bonds of friendship we've made this year will be more important than ever. Remember that, and Cedric Diggory will not have died in vain. You remember that, and we'll celebrate a boy who was kind and honest, and brave and true, right to the very end." He then looked behind him and at his chair, before turning back to the schools and continuing, "now, I would wish to keep to my aims of honesty today, and so I also confess, this year, Hogwarts has been a sanctuary for more than just students. May I introduce our resident emigrants, Spyro and Cynder." And from out from behind the chair stepped a boy and a girl, they had been seen at the yule ball and by the water's edge during the second task, so everyone recognised them, "now, not everything is as it seems," Dumbledore announced as he raised his wand, "you need not panic," he then swished his wand through the air and the human forms of Spyro and Cynder just melted away to reveal, the two dragons from the first task! The whole assembly burst into murmurs, and Spyro coughed for attention,
"Dumbledore is right," he said to the surprise of most people in the great hall, "me and Cynder have been hiding out at this school ever since the first task, and we wished to remain unknown. But now isn't the time for secrets. Voldemort may be back, but he has more power than before. He has merged with an equally evil entity from where me and Cynder come from, Malefor."
"Malefor is an evil dragon from our homeland," Cynder continued, "he was corrupting and only wished to bring about the destruction of our planet. And we refuse to let him do the same thing to your home."
"So we have decided to stay here until Voldemort and Malefor have been destroyed." Spyro finished, "we may not have known Cedric well, but we knew that he had a good heart, and we won't let his death be in vain."
"So be sure that we will join you in the fight for good, and let this song reach Cedric to show we won't forget," Cynder added, before turning her head to the ceiling and slowly singing, "Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy, warty Hogwarts, teach us something please," Spyro joined in with the song, slow as Cynder was,
"Wether we be old and bald or young with scabby knees our heads could do with filling with some interesting stuff now they're bare and full of air, dead flies and bits of fluff so teach us things worth knowing, bring back what we've forgot, just do your best, we'll do the rest and learn until our brains all rot." The whole assembly slowly applauded in respect, and both dragons bowed and exited through a side door.
That night was the dragon's first official night in the castle. A magical hat had said that they would both be most comfortable in a place called Gryffindor Tower, and they recognised it as the place Hermione had ran to during the Yule Ball. They slept together in front of the warm embers of the fire, and didn't realise that some of the students were watching them,
"Are they really friendly?" One asked,
"They are rather small, aren't they?" Another added,
"They look cute together, they might be in love," a girl stated. Cynder suddenly stirred slightly and they all ran back to their beds, she opened her eye a crack and smiled, she had been fully aware of the onlookers, she was finding it a bit odd to sleep without her choker, but she eventually found a comfortable position that allowed her to get to sleep. As soon as she closed her eyes, they opened again in an unusual white space, Spyro was next to her, looking completely confused.
"Spyro, Cynder, you have done well." They both jerked around to face a blue dragon. He may have had many trinkets hung over him, but his form and voice was something they both couldn't forget.
"Ignitus?!" They gasped,
"Yes, young dragons, it is me. I thought I would properly contact you to explain what happened at the graveyard, your powers added to the powerful magic being cast was creating tears in space, and as you saw, if they We to continue opening, anything or anyone could fall to the world you are on now."
"I'm just glad that it was just Sparx," Spyro pointed out, "with Malefor being a part of Voldemort now, he is quite the light of hope,"
"I agree," Ignitus nodded, "but you both must prepare, for darkness is now on the horizon and you both must trust in each other more than ever,"
"Ignitus?" Cynder asked, "there's something that confuses me; ever since we arrived here, we haven't needed to refill our mana, why?"
"Because you are on a planet that is bristling with pure magic, allowing you both to use your powers as often as you wish, just don't overwork yourself, it might take some time for you to get enough energy back to use your powers sometimes." He sighed and started fading away, "this connection is weak, I must go now, but remember that I will be looking over you all the time."
"Thank you, Ignitus," Spyro called as his mentor disappeared and the place they were in clouded over.
The next morning, Spyro and Cynder was happy to answer any questions the Gryffindors asked, though Cynder hid that the whole "how can you talk?" question was driving her bananas! That day was the day the other schools were leaving and the Hogwarts students left for the summer. The dragons and dragonfly waited by a large red steam engine that would take the students home. Harry, Ron, and Hermione stayed back to say farewell,
"It was good that we found you," Hermione confessed, "you are very loyal and trustworthy, thanks for that."
"Yeah," Ron agreed, "you two are good friends, I look forward to seeing you both next year."
"Tell Charlie that we say hi" Cynder requested, never forgetting the boy who had saved her from suffering.
"I will," Ron nodded.
"You can visit us if you want" Harry added, "it would definitely give my aunt and and uncle a fright"
"We will keep that in mind" Spyro stated as the train's whistle blew, "you better get going, don't want you missing the train," the three friends agreed and quickly rushed into the nearest carriage. The train whistled once more before starting off down the tracks.
Spyro and Cynder knew that they would be alone in the school now that the summer holidays had started, but they didn't mind. They had each other, Dumbledore had even given them access to every part of the castle without any need for a password. So the two dragons and their dragonfly friend spent most of the day exploring the castle, getting used to the rooms and the passages, they finally flew into Dumbledore's office, expecting it to be empty, but there the old man was.
"Having a good time?" He asked as his eyes twinkled behind his half moon spectacles, "I thought that you would like to see an old friend before I left, so…" he then stepped aside to reveal…
"CHARLIE! The dragons screamed in joy as they rushed over to their first human friend. And before they could ask Dumbledore how, he just disappeared.
"What are you doing here?" Cynder asked, completely perplexed,
"Well, I am heading home for the summer holidays, and I thought to myself that I am sure that my family would like to meet you, seeing as you both are friends of the family now. He then noticed Sparx who wore an expression of confusion, "And you must be Sparx. Charlie Weasley, pleased to meet you,"
"Um… good to meet you too mr." He looked over at Spyro with a look that demanded explanation,
"I'll explain later," Spyro told his brother, he then realised what Charlie had just said, "Wait! Do you mean we can actually go and meet the rest of your family?!" Charlie nodded with a big grin on his freckled face.
"How are we going to get there?" Cynder asked, curiosity overcoming her seeing as Dumbledore had told them to not be seen in the muggle world.
"Apparition," Charlie explained, "it's…"
"We know what it is," Spyro interrupted, "just be warned that we might throw up." Charlie chuckled at this before holding out his hand to them, Spyro and Cynder gave him their paws, and gestured for Sparx to do the same.
"Here we go" Charlie stated, and suddenly, in a flash of light, they were all sucked into some form of tight tube, and soon were deposited in a field near an unusual house. Just as Spyro had predicted, all three of them suddenly had a reunion with their lunch as both dragons and dragonfly vomited like crazy.
Once they were back to normal, Charlie escorted them to the house, he knocked at the front door which was instantly flung open and a plump woman with red hair rushed out an embraced the boy.
"Welcome home, dear!" She announced, she then noticed the two dragons and the glowing dragonfly behind Charlie,
"And you three must be the dragons that Ron was talking about, come on in!" She stepped aside to allow them to enter the house. It was incredible and they couldn't take it all in at once. "Everyone!" The woman shouted, "Charlie's home!" Then from out of every door nearby, four people rushed in, one of which was Ron. None of them noticed the dragons, they were too busy welcoming their brother back,
"Oh, Charlie," Ron exclaimed, "Spyro and Cynder say hi" Charlie smiled as Ron said this,
"I know, and I may have brought some work home with me…" he then stepped aside to reveal the dragons and the dragonfly,
"Hey all!" Cynder announced with a wide grin on her face, Ron's face was one of complete surprise, and the thing he said next had them all laughing long into the night,
