The battle was won. The Potters were dead; the ministry was attempting to weed out the death eaters in England. They had just captured their most surprising Death Eater. Sirius Black.
They were rounding up all known Death Eaters that had previously been untouchable. And as a young Millicent Bagnold had her head in her hands, unbeknownst to her and most of the wizarding world, Frank and Alice Longbottom were being tortured for any knowledge while a bawling baby Neville had been hidden in the bottom of his parent's wardrobe. He was only unnoticed because a terrified Alice had cast a silencing charm, knowing that this was probably his only chance of survival, especially when she heard the demonic laugh of Bellatrix Lestrange.
Millicent Bagnold and Barty Crouch were some of the first people on the scene when they were alerted about a dark mark floating above the Longbottom household. They found an unconscious Alice and Frank being carried out on floating stretcher as they were in a comatose state. With a flick of his wrist Crouch had ridden the building of that horrid mark. They searched the building for Neville and found him in a wardrobe.
On their way out of the of the building they found four bodies on the ground all unconscious too. As soon as she saw their faces she was paralysed. All she could do was move her head slightly to see Barty'a reaction as it came crashing down on him that his son was a death eater. First it was the shock and anger in his eyes then the tears of denial that followed. He apparated home almost instantly presumably to tell his wife. There was no doubt in Milliecent's mind that Barty wasn't a death eaters she wasn't especially worried about his sudden departure.
Upon the four torturers being sent to Azkaban, the whole of Grimmauld Place, Malfoy Manor and most other of the 'dark' or 'suspicious' houses were searched.
Arours had been leaving Malfoy Manor when they heard the cry of a baby. But, it was unmistakably a girls cry and Draco Malfoy was silent in his mother's arms. Casting a quick charm that let him follow noise he climbed up the stairs to a wall that had no opening. Or wouldn't let him open it so he got Malfoy to open it. The only reason he opened it was that he knew if he didn't then it proved he had something to hide.
That's what led to the baby that was sitting in between Millicent Bagnold and Andromeda Tonks. A DNA test had revealed that it was the child of Bellatrix Lestrange and Tom Riddle jr. Tom riddle was believed to the wizard behind the mask of 'Lord Voldemort'. If so, then this baby couldn't be raised by a muggle because his remaining supporters would come after her. Andromeda was a known member of the Order of Phoenix and had been questioned under veritaserum along with her husband so they could prove they weren't on the dark side.
They already had an eight year old daughter named Nymphadora who was off to hogwarts in three years.
After hours of Paperwork Andromeda came home to her husband and daughter. "Ted! Dora! I'm home and have a little surprise." She yelled.
Obviously Ted had known about the baby but ran downstairs following his daughter excitedly anyway. Ted had actually been the one that wanted the baby when they had been approached with the offer.
"Meet, Druella Ursula Tonks." She said in a small voice showing them the small baby sleeping peacefully in the basket.
"Is she my new sister?" Dora asked making sure not to be too loud as to not wake the baby.
"She's your cousin but you will grow up as sisters." Ted replied.
Dora looked a bit confused but just shrugged her shoulders and went off to bed.
"I can't believe this is happening." Ted said to his wife.
"Me neither. I love you so much."
"I love you too."
"You don't regret any of it?"
"None at all. Even I thought Sirius was good but guess what happened. My cousin and sister off to Azkaban." she said with a sigh.
Ted could tell she did not one want to talk about it anymore so left it at that.
"Come on we need to put her to bed. I set up Dora's old crate for her."
