Hermione x Viktor
A little OC a little Fucked up because who needs Ron anyway? Maybe one day I'll write an HP story without Ron bashing but, today is not that day.
I don't own anything Harry Potter.
Prologue
The smoke was everywhere, in my eyes, in my throat, blocking my vision and blocking my lungs.
It was cloying and hurt me more than the curse that was fired into my shoulder. Tears streamed down my face providing a brief clarity and relief from the burning and dryness. Harry, Ron, and the rest of the Weasleys were nowhere to be found. I had woken up to screams and the smell of fire.
When I left the tent, for a moment, I thought I was in hell. The chaos, the smell, the Dark Mark in the sky.
This had to be hell.
I didn't have time to fully understand what was happening before I hear the shouting.
The curses whizz passed my head, so close I can feel their heat on my face. I don't know where I'm running to or if I'm even running to something. The tents burn on either side of me causing a fiery gauntlet and, against my better judgement, I look behind me to see how many were following me, narrowly missing another curse as I did so.
There were three.
"Petrificus Totalus!" I was breathing heavily and the incantation barely leaves my throat but it works. One of the cloaked figures falls to the ground.
There were two.
Another curse rips through my leg causing me to gasp in a lungful of smoke.
"Sectumsempra!" Another one of my pursuers collapses as the curse hits them square in the chest. I turn to face the last one and barely put a shield up in time to block his curse. He stands still for a moment. If I had to guess, he was saying something, but the roar of the flames and his mask make it impossible to know for sure. My mind flits toward a curse I had read about earlier in the summer in the burrow's library. I hadn't practiced it and I'm pretty sure it's dark but...
Repello Inimicum.
I am not dying here today.
I takes off at a sprint, marking my anchorage points; then I collapse to my knees and wait. The Death Eater turns the corner and walks towards me; I could feel his smirk through his mask. He sidesteps the wards and walks closer to me. He knew.
No…
I don't know what comes over my body but, before I realize what I was doing, I was rushing towards him. He draws his wand but, I was quicker.
"Expelliarmus" I continue to charge him as his wand flies out of his hand. "Come on!" I yell, a challenge.
He was a wizard, a dark wizard but still a wizard, nothing without his wand. My fist connects across his face and he stumbles back.
Another hit and he stumbles further.
"You're nothing without your wand! Fight me like a man you coward." I land a kick square to his chest and then he was gone; dust in the wind.
My ward worked.
"That's how a muggle fights." I say to the empty space when the Death Eater had been not two seconds before. I couldn't hear my own voice over the flames but, I could hear a woman screaming. My head whipped toward the sound and I ran towards it.
"Pomogne! Moyat yastreb… Moyla te! Nyakoĭ vizhdal li e moya sin?!" She was standing in a clearing looking around frantically. A curse flew towards her and I barely had time to deflect it. I saw more Death Eaters enter on the other side of the clearing but, I didn't stop running towards her.
I kept deflecting curses away from her, as I got closer, I saw her hand had been mangled and her arm was definitely broken but, she wouldn't stop screaming.
"Moyat bebe! Moyat bebe! Pomogne!" It wasn't a language I was familiar but, I'm pretty sure bebe means baby in most European languages. She was looking for her baby. Another curse flies her way and nicks her side causing her to fall. I jolt forward between her and the Death Eaters, taking a slashing curse to my back.
"Shh Shh it okay. We'll find your baby" She looks up at me as soon as the words leave my mouth. Her eyes were a beautiful blue green and she looked around as old as my mum was. Another curse narrowly misses us.
It's no good, there isn't any cover, nowhere to hide.
"Mama!" a child's scream pierces though the sound of the fire and small boy runs into the clearing where I had been moments ago.
"Moya lyubov! Moya bebe!" A stinging hex barely grazes my arm and I spring into action once more, grabbing the mother and running towards the boy, firing hex after hex at the Death Eaters behind us.
Think Granger think!
We can't hide, We can't fight, We can't run.
I stop on my heels and the woman looks at me with wild eyes.
"Go! I'll be right behind you!" she hesitates for a moment before nodding.
The ward won't work, I don't have enough time. Think!
I was scared, truly scared for one of the first times in my life.
Okay I don't have cover, I'll have to make cover.
A green curse comes hurtling at me, I didn't need to hear the incantation to know what it was. I rolls out of the way, the cuts on my back screaming in protest.
"Nebulus!" Fog flies out of my wand, making a thick blanket between the Death Eaters and I. I couldn't see them which means they couldn't see me. I run towards the mother and child, scooping up the boy and grabbing the mother's good arm, running towards the woods.
"Come on, we can make it. You can do it, run!" I don't know whether I was saying it to myself or the woman beside me. "I can see the tree line we're almost there." The further we got from the flames, the more I could hear. I could hear people.
"Hermione! Hermione where are you!?" I could have cried in relief. He was looking for me, Harry was looking for me. Someone was looking for me.
I saw flashes of red hair behind the trees each one frantically screaming my name.
The Weasleys.
A hex brings me to the ground, knocking the wind out of me. The woman gasps, kneeling down next to me.
"Take him and go, you need to go" I tell her. "Get him to safety."
"Blagodarya ti. Thank you." Her eyes steel in resolve as she takes her son and runs towards the trees.
Another curse flies my way, missing me by centimeters.
"You should have killed me girl." The man walks out of the smoke with malice in his step. "Petty bindings won't hold me forever."
He's the one I petrified.
"You're right, I should have. I won't make that mistake again. I sure as hell didn't with your friends." I stand up, almost stumbling once before gaining my balance and standing tall.
The blood pumping in my ears blocks out the sound of Harry's voice calling for me; blocks out Death Eater's incantation and keeps me still as a cutting curse grazes my neck.
"Defodio!" I knew I was at my limit; the curse barely hits him.
"You mudblooded bitch!" The man yells, grabbing his arm. "He told us all about you Hermione! You're dead!"
My breath catches in my throat; he knows who I am.
I was wrong. I sigh.
"Today is a good day to die."
The woman rushes towards the trees as the girl had said to. Towards the people calling out names.
"Mama! Zhivko! No! I'm goving back for them!"
"Viktor!" she calls hoarsely, nearly collapsing into his arms "Viktor!"
"Mama?! Are you okay? Vhat happened?" The seeker takes in his mother, looking more disheveled than he had ever seen her. Her arm was dripping blood and soot covered her face.
"You haff to help her!" She cries hysterically "The girl, she stayed behind, you haff to help her!"
"Sofia no, he has to-" the coach isnt able to finish his sentence before Viktor disappears. He runs towards the flashing of spells, the only thing he could see in the darkness. Toward the woman that had apparently saved his mother and brother.
The girl was on her knees in the middle of a sparse clearing.
"Bozhe moĭ" He whispers as a Death Eater walks out behind her.
"You should have killed me girl. Petty bindings won't hold me forever." The man gloats.
"You're right, I should have. I won't make that mistake again. I sure as hell didn't with your friends." Much to Viktor's amazement, the girl begins to stand, only faltering once. She doesn't flinch as a hex grazes her neck.
"Defodio!"
His eyes widen, he knew the gouging hex, he had used it many a time to carve him and his brothers' names in trees around his home. He had never thought to use it on a person, it cut through stone with ease, he shuddered to think what it would do to a human.
Who is this witch?
"You mudblooded bitch!" The man yells, taking the hex to his arm. "He told us all about you Hermione! You're dead!"
The girl freezes in place before taking a deep breath.
"Today is a good day to die." She says with finality before firing hexes faster than Viktor could comprehend. Though he could see she was getting tired and the man was getting closer. He had to act quickly.
"Glacius Tria!"
I'm done, I have nothing left. I want to cry but don't want to give that bastard the satisfaction, so I simply close my eyes. How cliché. I feel cold.
A hand on my shoulder makes me spin and jab my wand under someone's chin. My eyes opened stared into wide dark blue eyes.
"I am not enemy" he says roughly.
"Wh- what?" I turn back around to see my attacker encased in ice.
I'm not dead.
I'm not dead!
The laugh that escapes my mouth catches the man behind me off guard. I'm sure it wasn't a pleasant sound. My throat felt as if I had gargled glass and washed it down with sand but, it didn't matter, I was alive. I turn back to the block of ice with, what I'm sure was a frightening, grin.
"Say hello to your friends for me." I go to raise my wand but decide against it, opting to use my foot to kick him backwards like I had his friend before him. He lands with a thud and satisfying shatter. "How's that for a mudblooded bitch?!" At some point, my laughter fades and my hands refuse stop shaking. "It's over, please let it be over." I sob, the fear and adrenaline rushing out of me in the form of tears. Large hands grab me and pull me into an embrace bringing us both to the ground.
"Is over. Shh, is over. He is gone." The man's voice soothe my nerves and his hand rub my back comfortingly.
"Mione'! Where are you?" Harry's voice rings loudly with desperation. "Mia please!"
I have to go, they need me. I need to help them.
"I help you get to them." Oh, I had apparently said that out loud.
The woman, the woman and child, are they safe? Please tell me they're okay.
"Da, they are okay, blagodarenie na teb."
I'm just going to assume what you said is a good thing.
I could feel myself being lifted and carried before the black enveloped me.
She was light, lighter than what he expected. He looks down at her sleeping form with a frown; sleep was not good, she had lost too much blood. He walks as fast as he can, without jostling her, towards the voice behind the trees.
"Mia! Mia please answer me!"
He turns around a tree and nearly knocks over a small redheaded girl. She glares up at him for a moment before noticing the girl in his arms.
"Oh Mione'! What happened?" The girl shoots up and begins whispering medicinal spells as fast as she could.
"She safed my mama and bother. She stayed behind so they can get avay." He lays the girl on the ground carefully. She was too pale. He did not like it.
"Stupid girl, you always do this! You self-sacrificing witch." The redhaired girl growls behind her tears. "You went too far this time Mione'."
"She got hit on neck, cutting curse." He explains, hoping his English was clear enough for the witch to understand.
"But that's not where all this blood is from. Help me turn her over." For such a small girl, she was sure good at giving orders. He helps flip the girl over and winces at her back. "That isn't good. Thank you for getting her to me. I need to take her back to my family."
"You are very calm. Do you need help?" he asks, thoroughly perplexed by the two women.
"I have to be calm with my group of friends. I got this, go check on your mother. Thank you for helping her. Petrificus totalus. Wingardium leviosa." Without another word, the red head whisks her unconscious friend away.
He watches the girls disappear further into the trees before returning to his family.
