Happy New Year Everyone and Welcome to 2021!

It's been a while since I last posted a story. The last few years have been pretty busy and eventful, to say the least.

Fire Force is an amazing series and I was surprised by how few crossover stories there were. Eventually, the idea for this story popped into my head and I felt it would be a good opportunity to get my creative juices flowing again.

I also want to thank The 3rd Dragneel for helping me out with this story.

Without further ado here is the First Chapter of my new story.

Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail or Fire Force.

Chapter 1: A Spark is Lit

City of Crocus - Fiore

The city of Crocus was active in preparation for the Grand Magic Games, even though dusk was shining over the city.

Excited fans and eager spectators were milling about the streets, excited for the next day that would bring them the Grand Magic Games.

All of a sudden, a couple was walking out of a nearby restaurant, both with satisfied looks on their faces, no doubt from having enjoyed a delicious meal.

Just as they were walking out of the establishment, they were hit with a flood of heat that assaulted them from out of nowhere.

"Geez, what's with this heat?" The young lady exclaimed with a sudden sense of fatigue and breathlessness as she desperately fanned herself.

"I know Summer is in full swing, but this temperature is just ridiculous!" Yelled the girl's boyfriend as he tugged at his collar and desperately loosened his tie to offer some semblance of relief from the heatwave.

All around them, other people were reacting to the heatwave as well and were desperately making their way to nearby establishments to cool off.

"Let's just go somewhere nearby to cool off. I could use some gelato right now." The girl complained.

Just as the man was about to agree with her, a sudden breeze swept through the street, forcing everyone to shield their eyes from how the unexpectedly strong and blistering winds.

Almost as quickly as it began, the winds stopped and were replaced by a series of heavy footsteps. The couple, as well as everyone else, looked up and gaped at a strange group of people making their way down the streets of Crocus.

Five individuals wearing customized uniforms calmly made their way down the street. The gear they wore was mostly black, but stood out thanks to the glowing neon-blue stripes around their arms, collars and stomach areas. All five also wore black firefighter helmets with the front including a unique guild emblem that consisted of two F's surrounded by a blazing sun and a cross standing between the F's.

Among the five individuals, the faces of four were shadowed, but the people nearby still felt chills down their spines as the eyes of these four people seemed to glow with eerie lights, ranging from pink, blue, violet and red. The lead figure that walked ahead of them had his features obscured by a metal face shield, which only added to his intimidating appearance, especially once you factored in that he was taller than the average person.

Each of them walked with a sense of confidence and authority. As they passed by, the temperature continued to increase, but the nearby citizens of Crocus were too focused on the group to notice.

Suddenly the figure with the bright red eyes spoke cutting through the deafening silence that permeated the street.

"We're finally here… Crocus. The sight of the Grand Magic Games."

Suddenly, everyone felt a sense of unease, and in some cases fear, as the figure who spoke suddenly manifested an eerie-looking smile that gave him a demonic appearance.

"This is going to be fun."

The grinning figure's feet started smoking as he walked by and people nearby noticed that he was actually walking barefoot.

As the group finally passed, the couple from before could not help but notice how with every step the second figure took, he left charred marks on the ground.

The couple was shocked with fright at the imprint in the ground.

An imprint that looked almost like the footprints of some unholy demon.

The Gardens Outside Mercurius Palace

"Isn't it beautiful Carla?" Asked a young blue-haired girl to a small white cat walking next to her. The girl looked to be about 12 or 13 years old with dark blue hair tied in pigtails on either side of her head. She was also wearing a sleeveless white dress that left her shoulders bare with a pair of arm sleeves that went up to her elbows. A red ribbon was tied around her neck, as well as on the end of her pigtails and she wore red boots with white socks that reached up to her thighs. Her white guild emblem was visible on her left arm.

The white cat next to her, Carla, wore a red shirt and pink skirt with a yellow tie and a ribbon at the tip of her tail.

Both girls looked up with awe at the sight before them.

"It's breathtaking." Said Carla as they looked up towards the complex architecture that made up the massive palace before them.

"They call it Mercurius, the Flower Light Palace." Said Wendy.

"Looking at it makes me wonder what the king is like." Carla mused with a smile.

"I bet he has a long white beard." Joked Wendy.

"Perhaps he does. child." Said Charla, while rolling her eyes in amusement.

Unbeknownst to the two, they were being watched. Standing on a stone doorway behind them was a tiny imp-like creature with a yellow bandana and leaves surrounding a single-pointed horn on the crown of its head. It has extremely thin limbs and a triangular devil's tail poking out of a robe with the symbol of a stylized R in the shape of a raven's head, painted on its back.

The creature snickered with its ever-present grin and circular white eyes that lacked any sclera. It turned around and crawled down the backside of the doorway and jumped down before landing on a tall humanoid being concealed by a cloak with only its blue nose pointing outwards. The figure the imp landed on then came to life, as it followed the two unsuspecting Fairy Tail mages while keeping a safe distance.

Patiently waiting for the right moment to pounce.

Somewhere in the Streets of Crocus

"Those guys seriously piss me off!"

"AYE!"

Nearby people dispersed out of the way to avoid an angry-looking young man with pink hair and a tiny blue cat that walked alongside him.

The pink-haired boy had a white-scaled scarf around his neck was dressed in a black shirt with an orange trim that had a sleeve missing on his right arm that proudly showed off the red guild mark on his shoulder to the world. He also wore white baggy pants with sandals.

The blue cat next to him was entirely blue, except for the tip of his tail and belly which were white. He carried a small green bag that was wrapped around his neck.

This was Natsu Dragneel, also known as the salamander and proud mage of Fairy Tail. His furry companion was Happy, a cat-like being known as an Exceed. Both wore furious expressions – although, in happy's case, it was more of an adorable pout.

The reason for their foul moods was the result of their first encounter with Sting and Rogue, the Twin Dragons of Sabertooth, the strongest guild in Fiore.

While Natsu was furious about their arrogant and condescending attitude and the revelation that they killed their dragon parents, Happy was furious about the rudeness of their exceed companions, Lector and Frosch.

"Those stupid jerks are gonna wish they never messed with me!" Both partners yelled furiously with tick marks on their heads and their eyes comically white with rage.

"Normally, I'd tell you both to calm down, but for once I agree with you. Those guys were complete and total jerks."

Walking behind them was a young girl with brown eyes and shoulder-length blonde hair tied by two ribbons in a pigtail. She was wearing a unique outfit that was a mix of blues and whites that showed off her large breasts and curvaceous figure. She wore a black skirt and leggings with a white belt, that also featured a small pouch on her side that jingled with each step and a black whip with a heart-shaped end and brown high heeled boots. Her guild mark, located on the back of her right hand, was coloured pink.

This girl was Lucy, a close friend of Natsu and Happy.

"I can name a few more words I'd like to call them." Natsu grumbled.

"And I hope you have the common sense not to use said words in public or while in the presence of a lady." Lucy chastised him.

"What lady, Lucy?" Happy asked with a seemingly innocent expression. However, Lucy knew better.

"Shut up, Cat!" She snapped.

Lucy and Happy stopped walking when they noticed that Natsu had stopped as well.

Looking ahead, they saw a gang of four guys crowding around two girls.

One of them was a blond-haired girl dressed as a nun, while the other was a dark-haired brunette wearing an orange jumpsuit with the top half tied around her waist, showing off her black tank top. The brunette also had purple eyes and sported an athletic, yet curvaceous figure.

One of the men with a large pompadour, whom they assumed was the leader, stepped closer to the girls with a posture that practically screamed arrogance and toxic masculinity.

"You know, it's dangerous for a couple of young ladies like yourselves to be wandering alone at this time of night. There are plenty of shady characters out there."

The blond nun seemed nervous while the purple-eyed girl seemed indifferent.

"Thanks for the warning. We'll keep that in mind," she said while attempting to move past the man, but he continued to block their path.

"Oh come on. What's the rush, babe? How about this? My boys and I will be sure to keep you and your friend company and show you a good time. All we ask in return is proper compensation for our services."

Lucy and Natsu frowned at the man's implication.

"What a pig!" Said Lucy. "Natsu, do you think you can…?"

"No worries, I was gonna go anyway. After those jerks, I could use a small workout. Scratch that. These guys aren't even gonna make me break a sweat." Natsu said as he started walking towards the group of punks.

Meanwhile, the leader of the group continued to ramble on, unaware of the impending doom heading his way.

"I mean sure, you're a little beefier than what I'm used to. But what the heck? I like a woman who's got a little meat on her…"

The man never got to finish his sentence. Before he knew what hit him, he felt his jaws clamp shut as he felt a powerful palm strike lift him in the air.

Natsu, Lucy, Happy and the man's goons were all shocked at what happened as the brunette hit the gang leader with enough force to lift him in the air.

She then brought both palms forward and slammed both her palms into his stomach. A second later, he was sent flying past Natsu and crashed into a wall behind him.

Natsu and Lucy blinked as they turned to look at the guy before returning their gaze to the girl.

The man's three cronies quickly shook themselves out of their stupor with angry expressions.

"Y-you fucking bitch! You're gonna pay for that!" He yelled while throwing a sloppy punch in her direction.

"Iris, duck!" She yelled and the nun immediately complied, dropping to her knees. She then dodged the man's strike before grabbing his outstretched arm and turned around with all her might.

Before the man knew it, he was off his feet and was being used as a club to swat his friends away, sending them all tumbling to the ground.

The girl then let him go and spun him in the air, causing him to cartwheel in the air before falling to the ground. As he came to her level, the girl spun around and roundhouse kicked him in the stomach, which sent him flying into another goon.

The third goon then brandished a knife and charged towards her, "I'm gonna kill you, bitch!

The girl remained calm and quickly sidestepped away. She then grabbed his knife arm, twisting it, then grabbed his head all at once causing him to drop his blade while she pushed him face-first into the ground.

"It looks like chivalry is dead after all." She said as she tightened her grip on the man's wrist, causing him to cry out from the pain. "A real man knows better than to use foul language in front of a couple of young ladies."

The punk on the ground cursed in pain as she applied a bit more pressure.

"LET GO OF ME, YOU MUSCLE BOUND FREAK!"

The girl's eyes widened and her veins bulged in anger.

She then lifted the man over her head with one arm, causing him to cry out in fear.

"HOW DARE YOU CALL ME A HIDEOUS, MAN-EATING GORILLA CYCLOPS!"

"I DIDN'T SAY THAT!" The man frantically screamed while Lucy, Natsu and Happy thought the same with shocked expressions on their faces.

She did not seem to hear him as she threw him towards the two goons she had thrown before who were just starting to recover. The man hit them with a noticeable impact, sending them all back onto the ground.

The Fairy Tail mages were so awestruck by the girl's strength and fighting prowess that they failed to notice the leader run past them wielding a basketball-sized fireball in his hands.

"Watch out!" Lucy cried out as the guy charged the brunette girl and her friend.

"You crazy broad! Take this!" He yelled, brandishing the ball of fire towards them.

However, the brunette quickly turned his way and in a move that shocked everyone in attendance, she moved her clenched palm towards his.

The guy stood there with a smug grin that was missing a few teeth and some trail of blood leaking out his mouth and nose.

'Hah! This bitch is delusional! The moment her hand touches my magic fire, I'm gonna burn her to a…'

He never got to finish his train of thought as moments before her hand touched him, his fireball suddenly extinguished itself, allowing her to painfully grasp his hand and force him to his knees.

The guy stood there with a shocked expression that quickly gave way to one of fear as the girl glared at him, her purple eyes glowing with power.

"H-hey now… let's take it easy… no need to…" He never got to finish his sentence as the mysterious girl slammed her knee into his face, knocking out a few more teeth and sending him into blissful unconsciousness.

With one last show of strength, she tossed the unconscious leader to his goons, causing them all to fall back down on the ground. They all looked up nervously towards the girl, who gave them a menacing look.

"Beat it!" She said with a low voice oozing with promises of pain should they dare to continue.

"YES, MAM! SO SORRY TO HAVE BOTHERED YOU!" They yelled as they quickly hightailed it out of there.

The girl sighed as she turned towards her friend, who was still crouching on the ground with her arms over her head.

She smiled at her friend's behaviour. "it's over now Iris. You can get up now."

The nun blinked as she looked around to see that the danger had indeed passed. She took her friend's hand and helped her stand up.

"Thank you, Maki." The nun said with a dazzling smile.

"Hey."

Maki quickly turned around and settled into another fighting stance as she came face to face with Natsu.

"What do you want?" She asked with her guard up. The guy before her did not look like he belonged with the group of guys from earlier, but looks could be deceiving.

"That… was…" She tensed up preparing for a fight. However…

"AWESOME!" Natsu exclaimed with an ecstatic grin and stars in his eyes.

Maki and Iris blinked as the tension left their bodies, replaced instead with incredulous surprise.

"Ummm… what?" She asked in an uncertain tone.

"That was amazing how crazy strong you are! I mean, I was about to beat the crap out of those guys myself, but you sure gave it to 'em. You know what? How about you fight me right here and now?" Natsu rambled before getting into a fighting stance, while Maki was still processing this unexpected turn of events.

"Natsu!" Lucy ran up behind her partner and then karate chopped him on the head, causing him to wince in pain.

"Aww geez, Lucy. What the heck was that for?"

Lucy pouted at his behaviour, which she's pretty much come to associate as the norm for him.

"You can't just ask every person we meet to a fight out of the blue like that. You seriously need to mind your manners."

Lucy turned towards the girls and bowed in apology, forcing Natsu to do the same.

"I'm so sorry about his behaviour. Please forgive him."

Maki and Iris's tension disappeared as they could not help but laugh. "No worries, it's fine. I'm actually relieved that your friend wasn't a bad guy. For a while, I was worried that I'd have to knock him out too."

Instead of feeling insulted, Natsu just laughed. The brunette then blinked as she realized something.

"Oops! I almost forgot to introduce myself. My name's Lucy Heartfilia." She said with a bright smile.

Natsu grinned, giving Maki a salute. "Natsu Dragneel, nice to meet ya!"

"My name is Happy!"

The two girls blinked as they looked around for the mysterious high pitched voice.

"Down here." Both girls looked down and were shocked by what they saw.

"He's a talking… blue…cat?" Iris asked as she and Maki were trying to process what they saw.

"Aye!" Happy said with his signature catchphrase.

Then without warning, Iris put her arms around Happy and scooped him up, trapping him in a tight hug against her bosom while she and Maki looked at Happy with sparkling eyes.

"Maki, he's a talking blue kitty cat! He is so cute!" Iris squealed in joy as she rubbed her cheek into Happy's face, making him look a little uncomfortable. She quickly loosened her grip, allowing him to breathe. At the same time, Maki started scratching him behind his ears, causing the little blue feline to purr in satisfaction.

"Oh, and he's so fuzzy too." Maki cooed while looking at the docile and blissful expression on Happy's face. It seemed like he was quite comfortable and nestled himself deeper into Iris' embrace.

Iris soon put Happy back down, which made the little guy a little disappointed as he rejoined his friends.

"It's a pleasure to meet all of you. My name is Iris." The cute nun said with a brilliant smile as she gave them a small nod.

Maki stepped forward and offered her hand to Natsu, which he returned. He noticed she put a little force into her grip, which he returned.

"Nice grip. The name's Maki Oze." She said before shaking Lucy's as well.

"Pleasure to meet you, Maki and Iris." Natsu said with a toothy grin.

"I've got to admit, it was pretty satisfying watching you lay the smackdown on those creeps. I'm just glad that guy's magic was so weak. Otherwise, you could have been really hurt." Lucy said.

"What are you talking about Lucy?" Natsu asked his companion, causing her to look at him with a confused look.

"Sure his magic was weak, but it didn't disappear on its own… right?" he asked looking at Maki for confirmation.

Maki smirked. "That's pretty sharp. But yeah, that was me using my magic power on him. Of course, I'm technically supposed to be keeping a low profile until the games start." She said with a sheepish expression.

"Does that mean you're participating in the Grand Magic Games?" Lucy asked.

"Yup! This is our first time entering the competition. So our team's pretty excited."

"Well, if they have people as strong as you, I'm sure you guys will make it far." Lucy said with a smile.

"You have no idea, sister," Maki said with a playful smile of her own.

"Umm… excuse me?" Iris asked with a nervous blush.

"Yeah?" Natsu asked.

Iris then pointed to Natsu and Lucy's guild marks. "I've been meaning to ask, but that guild mark you both have. Are you by any chance with Fairy Tail?"

Natsu had a proud grin on his face. "You bet we are!"

Iris and Maki's smile lit up like megawatt lightbulbs. "That's amazing! My friends and I were huge fans of Fairy Tail growing up. We used to go to your Harvest Festival every year as kids." She then turned to Lucy. "You know, now that I got a good look at you, you remind me a lot of this one girl I saw during the Fantasia parade seven years ago. Are you related to her by any chance?"

Lucy laughed nervously. "Actually that was me."

Maki and Iris blinked at her response." I wasn't expecting that. You don't look like you've aged a day since then. What's your secret?" Maki asked with genuine curiosity.

Lucy looked a little nervous as she waved her hands in front of her. "It's a long story. Let's just say we went on a trip and came back a little later than expected… without changing for seven years."

Maki, Iris, Natsu and Happy sweatdropped at Lucy's response.

"Uhm... that actually raises more questions." Said Iris.

Maki quickly waved it off. "Anyways, by the looks of it, you guys seem like you're gonna be in the tournament too, right?"

All three nodded, with Happy adding an enthusiastic "Aye Sir' to the mix.

"Fairy Tail's had some bad luck these past seven years… but this year, we're gonna climb our way back to the top!" Natsu said with a determined expression on his face, which Maki could not help but blush at the sight of.

It disappeared as quickly as it came and she smiled at his charismatic attitude.

"You're a real stand-up guy, aren't you Natsu? … You know what? I think I will take you up on your offer."

"Really?" Natsu and Lucy asked. While Natsu looked ecstatic, Lucy looked a little nervous.

"I mean you don't have to force yourself if…" Lucy was about to say but Maki just shook her head.

"It's not that. I'm just really impressed with his spirit. And to be honest, those guys barely made me break a sweat. It wouldn't be so bad to have an actual workout before the games start."

Natsu grinned as he slammed his fists together, creating a burst of flames.

"Awesome! I'm all fired up!" he yelled getting into his signature stance, with Maki did the same.

Before Lucy and Iris could stop the two, something else intervened. The mages in attendance froze as the sound of loud chiming rang through the air.

Everyone looked towards the clocktower as it rang with the hour hand pointing to 11.

Maki and Iris suddenly looked nervous. "Holy Crap! It's 11 already?!" Maki yelled with a terrified expression.

Lucy and Natsu were surprised by how late it was. "I didn't realize it was already this late. Our deadline to return to our hotel is in less than an hour." Said Lucy.

Iris tugged on Maki's jumpsuit. "Maki, we have to head back to the others now too. We're past curfew."

"Yeah, you're right. Those punks took up more of our time than I realized. Oh man, Hinawa is going to go ballistic again." Maki said as her eyes turned circular and white with fear.

She then quickly turned to Natsu and the others. "Sorry guys, we're going to have to reschedule this for another time, alright?"

Natsu nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you're right. We don't want to miss being late for the deadline either." Natsu just smiled at put his fist out towards Maki.

"We'll just have to settle this in the Grand Magic Games. So you and you're team better make it there you hear me?" Said Natsu.

Maki smiled at Natsu's enthusiasm. He reminded her of a familiar smiling guy she knew.

"You got it! See you in the games, you guys." She said as she and Iris turned and ran back to their hotel.

As they ran off, Natsu blinked as he realized something.

"Ah shoot!" he yelled.

"What's up?" Lucy asked.

Natsu looked at her with a deep frown. "I forgot to ask her which guild she's from."

Lucy blinked in realization as well. "Oh yeah, you're right. It completely slipped my mind."

In the end, Lucy just shrugged her shoulders. "Oh well, it's not that big a deal. After all, we're gonna see her at the games anyway, right? We'll just have to make it past the preliminaries to find out."

Natsu and Happy both grinned, "Aye!"

The three friends soon turned back to head towards their hotel before the deadline with a quick sprint to their step. After all, the last thing they wanted to do was miss the deadline and make Erza mad at them.

"W…what happened?"

Wendy's vision was a blur as she desperately fought to keep herself awake. She tried to push herself up from the ground, but this proved futile as her lack of strength forced her back down.

She could barely comprehend what happened. She and Carla were enjoying the sights of the palace and the gardens and were having a wonderful time. By the time they realized how much time had passed and tried to return to the hotel, both she and Carla collapsed without warning.

Her eyes widened a bit as she remembered something important.

"C…Carla… is she… ok?"

Wendy did her best to move around and saw her a few feet behind her. Turning her body as best she could, it took all her remaining strength to crawl to her furry companion's side. She slowly took Carla into her arms in a vain attempt to comfort her.

"Carla… can… you… hear me?" Wendy whispered to her companion.

She could feel that Carla was still alive, but she remained unresponsive. She was completely out cold.

"I… have to move… I need to get out of here and help Carla."

Wendy tried to dig deep and find any remnants of strength to help get herself and Carla out of there. She managed to stand on her feet, but that was only for a few seconds. Doing that took everything she had left and she soon collapsed.

Looking up, she could make out two hooded figures coming towards her. One was tall while the other was of average height. She could also make out the little black figure riding on the taller one's shoulder.

The larger figure stopped a few feet, while the other came a little closer.

The one closest to her started talking but she couldn't make out what they were saying.

"Who… are you? What do you want?" She weakly asked while clutching Carla even tighter to her chest.

She couldn't make out what the figure was saying before they pulled out a small club from within the confines of their cloak. At that moment, Wendy's fear grew. Here she was: defenseless and vulnerable, while some stranger was going to kill her. Just as they prepared to bring the club down, Wendy mentally screamed what she believed to be her final thoughts.

'Someone… please help us!' Wendy pleaded.

As if someone heard her prayers, another mysterious figure flew in from behind her attackers. As they descended from above, two large waves of flames spread out from their body. In her weakened state, she felt a bit of fear as the flames formed the shape of demonic talons, while the newcomer's eyes glowed a demonic red with a fanged smile glowing white.

The hooded figure stopped their attack and dodged the attacker just as a burst of flames flew over his head. The assailant was soon forced on the defensive as a mysterious figure began kicking at them with some of the most intense flames she ever felt.

"N…Natsu...?" Wendy whispered. Had her fellow dragon slayer somehow managed to track her down?

Just when it looked like her saviour had them cornered, the shorter figure pulled out a smoke bomb and slammed it down on the ground temporarily obstructing them from view.

The mysterious saviour kicked at the mist, causing it to disperse. However, Wendy's attackers were nowhere to be seen.

Feeling the rush of adrenaline leave her body, it became harder to keep her eyes open. She could feel her body losing the battle to remain conscious.

She remembered her saviour running towards her and bent down to her level, giving her a good look at his face.

She could now see that her saviour wasn't Natsu. He was a brunette boy around Natsu's age with red eyes, wearing an orange jumpsuit.

"Hey! Are you alright!?" Wendy could hardly hear him. In her weakened state, his voice sounded blurry and out of focus. He then gently raised her head before picking her up in his arms while making sure that Cala was secured as well.

"Just hang on! I'm gonna get you guys to safety!"

That was the last thing she heard from him before she felt the wind rush against her body as they suddenly flew up into the sky.

The wind blew through her hair in a soothing manner, just like how her dragon mother Grandeeny, used to do when she was little. Feeling safe and secure, Wendy finally allowed herself to fall asleep, resting her head against her saviour.

Although she had no idea who this person was, she knew that he would not harm her.

In a way, the warm heat emanating from his body reminded her a lot of Natsu.

Timeskip: July 1, X791

Makarov gave a tired sigh as he walked to the stadium alongside his guild. Last night had been quite eventful indeed.

When Wendy never showed up with the rest of her teammates to fight in the preliminaries, they knew that something terrible had happened. Wendy would never have stayed out so long without letting them know and she would never be late for something so important.

Makarov and the others then scattered throughout the capital to find her.

Lisanna and Happy were lucky enough to find her purse at the gardens outside Mercurius Palace, but Wendy was nowhere to be found.

The only thing they did find was a pair of demonic-looking footprints that had been burned into the ground. When he heard this, Makarov feared that the worst had happened to Wendy.

Fortunately, after the preliminaries came to an end, he was contacted by a doctor's clinic within the city, telling him that Wendy was with them.

They explained that a contestant from one of the guilds had found Wendy collapsed on the ground and brought her to them. Both she and Carla were drained of their magic, but otherwise, they were unharmed. Apparently, the youth stayed by her side for almost an hour to ensure they were in safe hands before leaving at the very last minute to return to his team.

Unfortunately, he did not leave his name with the clinic's staff. On the one hand, Makarov could not help but feel a little suspicious of this young man's timely arrival to save Wendy. On the other hand, he was just glad that she was safe. She had been moved to the nearby wing in the colosseum and was being watched over by Porlyusica, who said she would notify him and the rest of the guild when she woke up.

Makarov sighed in both relief and exhaustion. It was days like this that he could feel his age catch up to him.

"Is everything alright, master?" Makarov's musings came to an end as Lisanna and the rest of the guild made their way through Domus Flau.

"Oh, nothing to worry about, my dear. Just the recent events were a little unexpected, that's all."

Lisanna looked downcast as she remembered what happened to Wendy. "I still can't believe that someone attacked Wendy and Carla like that."

Makarov's expression turned serious. "Rest assured Lisanna, we won't let those who did this to Wendy go unpunished. I'll see to it personally." Although he said this part calmly the weight of his words carried a deep pressure, demonstrating a promise of pain Makarov would inflict upon the perpetrators. Yet again reminding Lisanna, just why her master was one of the 10 Wizard Saints.

Just as quickly as it came, the pressure vanished as Makarov stretched his old joints. "Until then, we should focus our efforts on supporting the teams that we'll be fighting in the Grand Magic Games."

Lisanna smiled. "I still can't believe that you and Levy were able to find that new rule which allows for multiple teams to participate. It's definitely going to help us out during the games." She said filled with confidence.

Makarov nodded with a grin. "Yup, victory in the games is assured with both our best teams on the case… among other things." He chuckled the last part to himself.

"…You planned another punishment game again didn't you?" Lisanna asked with a deadpan expression, only for Makarov to feign innocence by whistling while looking away which all but confirmed her concerns.

"Makarov!"

Makarov looked behind him to see a familiar acquaintance making his way towards him.

"Ah, Goldmine. It's a pleasure to see you again. Have you come to wish Fairy Tail luck? Cause your team may be the ones who'll need it."

Goldmine sighed. "You won't need to worry about that."

Makarov was puzzled by his statement. It was then that he noticed that Goldmine had a pretty sombre expression on his face. Having known his friend for so long, he knew this meant that something was up.

"Lisanna, why don't you go ahead? I will catch up with you in a minute."

Lisanna looked hesitant, but nodded and moved to join her guildmates at their seats reserved for them during the tournament.

"What's wrong, Goldmine? Did something happen?"

At first, Goldmine remained silent. Just as Makarov was about to ask him again, he answered. However, what he said was not at all what Makarov was expecting.

"Quatro Cerberus was completely wiped out in the preliminaries."

To say he was shocked was an understatement. Makarov knew that while Quatro Cerberus was not one of the strongest guilds in Fiore, they were by no means weak.

"Wiped out? Even Bacchus?"

Goldmine nodded somberly. "Especially Bachus. He was completely decimated."

"What happened?" From what Makarov could tell, it did not sound like Quatro Cerberus was eliminated just by falling from the Sky Labyrinth.

Goldmine frowned as he recalled the state his strongest fighter was in. "My team was wiped out by a single guild. And not just any guild either. I'll admit, out of all the guilds to participate in this year's games, I wasn't expecting them to make an appearance."

"Who are you talking about, Goldmine?"

Goldmine looked straight into Makarov's eyes and from behind those shades, Makarov could tell that his old friend was giving him a serious glare.

"The guild which houses the most powerful fire mages in Fiore."

Makarov didn't understand at first, but then he recognized the familiarity of Goldmine's statement and indeed, he was very surprised.

"You mean that guild? They're participating in the games?"

Goldmine nodded. "You picked one hell of a time to return from your seven-year rest, old friend. I wish you the best of luck. Cause from the looks of it, this year's games are gonna be far from easy."

With his warning given, Goldmine saluted Makarov before walking away. Makarov turned around and made his way to the stands with the rest of the Fairy Tail. All the while, he was deep in thought about the latest information he received.

'This was seriously unexpected. If that guild is indeed participating, then we may have some pretty dangerous competition to deal with… Still, they've never been the type of guild to place themselves in the spotlight. And is it a coincidence that they chose now to participate? Or perhaps fate?'

Makarov's musings came to an end as he was nearing the entrance to the stands.

"Whatever the case may be, in the end, it makes no difference. Our goal still has not changed."

As he finally came to the threshold entrance to the stands, he could feel the roar of the crowd reverberate through his ageing bones.

"Regardless of who our enemy may be, Fairy Tail will surpass them all and reclaim our place at the top!"

And that's a wrap! I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of my new story. I'm eager to hear your feedback so please don't forget to leave a review.

As I mentioned at the start of the chapter, this story is to kind of help get me back into the fanfic game (Hence, why I thought it appropriate and symbolic to publish it today on the first day of the New year).

Chapter 2 is almost done, so I'm hoping that it will be out sometime next week.

Anyway, remember to stay safe and healthy everyone and Have a Happy New Year!
