Twilight and Spike were waiting inside of the bedchamber with the book Black Rose Makes a Friend opened to a random page right in front of them. They were waiting for the portal to appear that Black Rose would come out of so Twilight can show her around. Twilight was waiting eagerly. Spike, however, not so much. He remembered the conversation he had with Rainbow Hooves and like him, didn't trust Black Rose one bit. He looked up at the alicorn.
"I don't know about this, Twilight." He said to her. "Maybe she decided not to come."
"Nonsense." Twilight told the little dragon. "She told me that she was coming. If she decided not to, she would've told me. Who knows? Maybe she is getting herself prepared. Since we live in a palace and I'm the princess and all, she might feel like she has to look her very best. She should be here any minute now."
"When? It feels like forever since we started waiting for her."
"Patience is a virtue, Spike, We're in no rush." Spike sighed and muttered to himself. Suddenly, the portal appeared. Twilight squealed like a school filly. "Here she comes, Spike!" Spike rolled his eyes. Black Rose emerged from the portal and the portal disappeared.
"Sorry I'm late." She apologized. "Since I was coming here to the palace and knowing you are a princess and all, I wanted to look my very best."
"I told Spike that you might be doing just that, but you know you didn't have to. We would have welcomed you with open hooves no matter what you look like."
"Well, not exactly." Spike told her. "She should still look nice and be presentable. She should not be dirty, mane not messy, that sort of thing."
"Spike's right." Black Rose agreed. "I don't want you thinking that I don't look after myself."
"I guess you have a point there." Twilight said. Spike looked offended.
"Hey!" He snapped. "What about me?! I said those things first." Twilight looked at him.
"You're right too, Spike. I got to give credit where credit is due."
"Thank you!" Twilight looked at Black Rose again.
"Let me take you on the tour of the castle first and introduce you to Princess Celestia. That's assuming she's not too busy."
"Let's." Black Rose agreed again. "I can't wait to see all of your kingdom and your friends." She followed Twilight. Spike went after the two ponies,
Twilight showed Black Rose every nook and cranny of the entire palace. Black Rose was impressed with it all. She had never been in one before and told Twilight that she always wanted to.
"Princess Celestia!" Twilight said when they saw her. Princess Celestia, after talking to one of the guard ponies, looked and trotted up to them. "This is my friend, Black Rose." Black Rose did a bow at her.
"I'm honored to meet you and be in your presence, your Royal Highness."
"I'm honored to meet you too." Celestia responded. "Any pony that's a friend to Twilight is a friend to us and we welcome you."
"I'm pleased to hear that your Highness."
After meeting and chatting with Celestia for a bit, Black Rose and Twilight decided to move on. They said goodbye to her and headed on. Spike stayed behind.
"I'll catch up with you girls shortly." Spike said to the two. "I'm going to have a word or technically words with Princess Celestia."
"You do that, Spike." Twilight told him. "You know this place inside and out. You don't need to follow."
"Twilight's right." Black Rose put in. "Aren't you her assistant? So you probably have something important to do."
I do. Spike said in his head. I have to warn every pony in the kingdom about you before it's too late. He knew he probably wouldn't be able to warn and convince every pony, but he was sure as heck going to try. As the two ponies were out of sight, Spike went up to Celestia and cleared his throat. Celestia looked at him.
"Yes, Spike?" Celestia asked. "You have something to say? Spill it. I'm all ears." So, Spike told her what Rainbow Hooves told him.
"So you see your Highness," Spike told her. "Now you know why Black Rose is a danger to Twilight and a possible danger to all of Equestia."
"I see." Celestia said.
"So you're going to talk to Twilight about it?" Celestia shook her head. This confused the little dragon. "But why not? Can't you see that she's making a huge mistake? You don't want that, do you?" Celestia nodded.
"Yes." She replied. "You're right. I don't want that." Spike was still confused.
"Because it's her decision in the end ultimately. She's her own pony. I can not force her to do something that she doesn't want to do. I can try to persuade her, but really, it's her choice."
"That may be true, your Highness, but she might never get out of this herself. She needs our help."
"Then give her all of the help that she needs. But she's a full grown pony. If she heads down this path, let her. Don't stop her. You can only hope that she comes around on her own, but if not, then that's that. There's nothing you can do."
"Are you saying that I should stand by and do nothing as she makes the biggest mistake of her life? As her friend, I can't do that."
"I know it's hard, but sometimes you just have to. There's only so much that you can do. You just have to be by her side and support her."
"But not if she's making the biggest mistake of her life."
"If it is the biggest mistake of her life, let her come to that conclusion on her own. You think you can do that? Do you understand what I'm saying to you?"
"I think so, but I'm still unsure."
"That's completely understandable coming from a friend like you. You want the very best for her; I understand." Spike thought about this and sighed.
"Okay, I'll do it. I won't force her. I'll let her decide for herself, but I will still try to warn every pony in the kingdom of Black Rose." Celestia smiled.
"I wouldn't expect anything less from you." Spike bid farewell to the princess, then left himself.
Spike warned every pony to be on their hooves about Black Rose.
"I don't know a Black Rose." A pony with a camera around his neck stated.. "Sorry, I'm just a solo traveler pony that just wants to see the sights. I don't have time to know a Black Rose."
"Oh." Spike just said, "Well, if you see a black pony and she calls herself Black Rose, just be cautious."
"I don't have to be anything. Sounds like you are paranoid. How do you know if this Rainbow Hooves fellow is telling the truth? He may be the bad pony and she may be the good pony. He's maybe just telling you this just because. You never know." Spike sighed, knowing that he had a point.
"You're right. I don't know."
"Darn right you don't! Now if you excuse me, I'm going to enjoy the rest of my vacay. I suggest you stop bothering ponies and let your friend do whatever." He left.
Well, I'm going to warn every pony anyways. Spike said in his mind. Because what if he's wrong and Rainbow Hooves is a good pony? Then again, what if that vacation pony is telling the truth? Oh, I don't know. I think it's best just to warn Twilight's friends, not some random ponies on the street. And with that, he flew off.
Spike warned the rest of the Main Six and the Cutie Mark Crusaders. They all said the same thing to Spike, that he was being paranoid and to give Black Rose a chance. Spike was disappointed at this every time. Will some pony believe him? When Spike told Pinkie Pie, she felt guilty about it.
"It's all my fault." The melancholy pony stated. "If I didn't give Twilight that book, none of this would be happening."
"Cheer up, Pinkie Pie." Spike said to her. "It's not your fault. You didn't know that the book was filled with dark magic."
"But..." She then turned back into her cheery self. "That if you're right. If you're wrong about her, I might have given Twilight the greatest gift ever, friendship!" Spike sighed. He really thought Pinkie Pie would've believed him. Could it be that Rainbow Hooves was in the wrong?
"Yeah." He just said.
"So, what did you think of Equestia?" Twilight asked Black Rose that night. She just got done giving her friend a tour of the kingdom.
"It was nice." Black Rose said. "Are you coming tomorrow? After your royal duties of course?"
"Great! See you!"
Twilight waved to her friend as she teleported away back into her world from the portal. She then saw Rarity and Sweetie Belle approach.
"What are you planning to do tomorrow?" Rarity asked.
"Nothing." Twilight admitted to her. "We just get together and see where it goes from there."
"I see. Well don't forget about tomorrow night."
"I won't." She then grew puzzled. "Wait, what's tomorrow night?"
"It's Scootoloo's birthday soon." Sweetie Belle informed her. "So we're going to plan a big celebration like we did with your tenth anniversary party."
"Will you be able to join us for that, darling?" Rarity asked. Twilight smiled and looked down at her little sister.
"I'd love to help you come up with plans for Scootoloo's party." Sweetie Belle cheered at this.
"Remember, you promised."
"I guess I did. Gosh, Scootoloo's going to be another year older? Who knew?"
"I knew. That's why we're throwing another party for her. That what happens when you have a birthday, you get another year older."
"I guess. Wish it was the other way around. How I miss being a sweet, innocent filly."
"Well, it's not. You'll have to just accept that you're just getting older." She trotted off.
"Gosh, how I really wish going back to being her age. Life was more simpler then, right, Rarity?" She then noticed Rarity's expression. This concerned the alicorn. "Rarity? What's wrong? You okay?"
"Oh, yes." Rarity lied. "I'm fine. No need to be concerned, darling."
"But I am concerned and I know you're lying to me because you're hiding something. Now what is it?"
"It's really nothing. Nothing at all."
"Rarity!" Rarity sighed.
"I don't think I should be telling you this."
"Telling me what?"
"It's just a rumor. Something Spike told me."
"What did Spike say?"
"You might be upset."
"Upset? With what?" But Rarity didn't reply. "Rarity, what did Spike say? Rarity!" Rarity sighed and told Twilight what Spike told her.
When Rarity was done, Twilight was shocked. She was also upset with Spike. How dare he say that her friend was dangerous! She was just a friend. Nothing sinister about her. Why can't Spike just accept it?
"Thanks for telling me this, Rarity." Twilight told her. "It's just what you said. A rumor. An ugly, awful rumor that's not true."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive. He should know better. I'll sort this out with him once and for all."
"Don't be too hard on him."
"I'll do what I can to get through to him."
"Thanks. Oh and tell the others in case he spread his lies on to them too."
"I will!" Twilight then sped off, not at all looking happy.
"SPIKE!" Twilight yelled at him when she found him in her bedchambers. Spike looked at her and gulped. Oh oh! She found out. "We got to talk." Yeah, we do. Spike wanted to add, but was too afraid to.
"What about?" Spike asked innocently, playing dumb. Twilight however was too smart for that.
"I know you know why I'm mad. Don't play with me." The little dragon sighed. Might as well get this over with.
"I was only trying to help." Spike said to Twilight.
"Help?" Twilight questioned out loud. "Help?! No, you weren't. You were trying to separate me from Black Rose because of a false rumor. That is what you were doing. Black Rose is very nice. It's Rainbow Hooves that might be the liar. You shouldn't listen to him."
"How do you know?"
"Black Rose told me."
"Black Rose told you, huh?" The alicorn almost felt insulted over this. She was mad again.
"If I hear anything negative about my friendship with Black Rose again from you…." Twilight dreaded saying what came next. "You are fired as my advisor." Spike gasped at this.
"You can't do that. Wait, can you?"
"I help rule this kingdom, therefore I have authority." Spike was mad now to.
"Oh, yeah?" He said. "Well, I…" But he didn't want to quit. He didn't even want to even think of it.
"Frankly, I don't care what you do, Spike." Twilight was calm now. "But, if you must think it over, then please do. I'll give you some time, but I'll miss you if you do decide to quit. The entire kingdom and I will all miss you. But you do what you have to do. I won't be mad, just disappointed and heartbroken. You were a good advisor over the years." And with that, she left the room. Spike watched her as she trotted off.
Spike folded his arms across his chest. Stupid Twilight. Why is she being so difficult? This wouldn't be so hard if she was willing to cooperate, but she isn't. Maybe I should quit. I don't want to work for a pony who doesn't consider her advisor's feelings. If Rainbow Hooves is right about Black Rose, let her do whatever to Twilight. I don't even care anymore. I'm going to tell Twilight right now that I'm going to quit.
He sighed to himself. Oh, who am I fooling? I'm not going to tell her because I'm not going to quit. Not now, not ever. Twilight and I have been through so much together. It'll be silly to quit my job over something like this, but what I to do? How will I make Twilight understand? I can't, can I? Guess I'll just have to do what the others say and just let whatever happens happen. He then snapped his claws with an idea. I'll go ask Rainbow Hooves what I should do. He's my last hope.
He ran to the book. He wanted to talk directly to Black Rose and tell her off, but he'll only make things worse with his relationship with Twilight. He'll get his job terminated without a doubt if he did that. So he decided against it, and will just talk to Rainbow Hooves about it. Twilight won't care if he just talked to him, right? He was sure of it. She'll get mad possibly like today, but not mad enough to fire him.
But there was a problem. He didn't remember how they got in last time. He remembered the portal and the wind, but how to make the portal appear? He also remembered the book being opened to a page. But was it a certain page that he was supposed to open to? He didn't know, and that is what bugged him.
He decided to just open to a random page, and hope it was the right one. After flipping through some, he stopped on the one he liked and spoke down to it.
"Hi!" He began. "This is Spike and I want to speak to Rainbow Hooves, please!" He waited for an answer, but he didn't get one. He sighed. Great! Now was he supposed to activate the winds and the portal? He didn't want to keep flipping though the book and shouting at it. If he did not, and somepony that wasn't Twilight passed by would think that he absolutely lost it. No way was he going to embarrass himself like that! But then what was he to do? Suddenly, a voice from within the book shouted back.
"Why do you want to talk to Rainbow Hooves?" It was Black Rose. Spike shouted right back.
"To...uh…" What was Spike going to say? He didn't want to lie, but he didn't want to tell her the truth ether. "To hang out with him." That was the truth. After all he was hanging out with him by telling him. He was scared that Black Rose might not believe him somehow and not let him in the book, but she surprised him.
"Okay; I'll let you in."
"Sure, Rainbow Hooves needs a friend like I do. And you seem to be perfect friend material for him. In fact, we can all be friends!"
"Yeah, yeah we can!" Spike wasn't too sure on that, but maybe if she turns over a new leaf.
"I'll open up the portal for you."
"Thanks!" Moments later, the wind picked up and the portal appeared. The dragon then walked inside.
The portal closed back up once he stepped on the soil from the book. Black Rose was there.
"Is Twilight with you by any chance?" She asked.
"Nope." Spike just said to her. She looked disappointed.
"Oh, okay." She then perked up. "Rainbow Hooves is the rainbow colored house in the middle of Friendship Valley. You can't miss it."
"Rainbow house in the middle of town. Got it." Spike flew off. Black Rose grinned evilly and trotted after him, careful Spike didn't turn around for some reason and noticed.
Spike saw a rainbow colored house in the distance. Black Rose was right. He couldn't miss it. It was right out there in the open. It stuck out like a sore thumb.
And he supposed it was fitting that Rainbow Hooves did have a rainbow colored house. Rainbow Dash didn't have a rainbow colored house through. But according to her, her place was still 'awesome.' So was this place.
Spike knocked on the door and rang the doorbell, hoping he was home. Moments later, the door opened. There on the other side stood Rainbow Hooves.
"Spike?" He asked in confusion. "What are you doing here? You shouldn't be here. Is Twilight with you?"
"No." Spike answered. "I came here alone. Black Rose told me how to get here. I came to talk to you." As Spike was talking, Black Rose snuck into the house. Rainbow Hooves looked all around, then back at Spike. "Come in then." Rainbow Hooves led Spike inside. Rainbow Hooves looked all around outside briefly again before shutting the door shut.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" Rainbow Hooves asked Spike in a room of the house.
"First of," Spike started. "Nice house. You really love rainbows, don't you?"
"I do. My parents named me a very fitting name."
"I can see that. Now, the reason why I'm here is because, no one believes me back home that Twilight is being manipulated by Black Rose. So I'm hoping that you might have some advice on that?" Rainbow Hooves shook his head.
"I do not." Spike was disappointed.
"Oh, well can you come to my world and convince them yourself?" Again, the rainbow colored pony shook his head.
"I can't do that either. You have to pray that a miracle happens and your friend sees the error in her ways before it's too late." Spike sighed.
"I wasted my time then, didn't I?" This time Rainbow Hooves nodded.
"I'm afraid so."
"Oh, I wouldn't say that." A familiar voice spoke. They both looked and gasped. It was Black Rose.
"Black Rose?" A confused Rainbow Hooves asked "Why are you here? How did you get inside of my house?"
"That's not important, but I'll tell you anyways since you are curious. I snuck in."
"But that's not possible. I looked all around outside. I didn't see you."
"It is possible. I snuck in while you greeted Spike. And I hid before you led him inside and now, here I am, all in my glorious wonder." Rainbow Hooves narrowed his eyes. He was now mad.
"That was not cool what you just did, Black Rose. You just can't barge into ponies' houses like that." This time, Black Rose was mad.
"Maybe so, but good thing I did. I knew the little dragon was trouble ever since Twilight brought him here. It was my gut feeling." She looked at Spike. "And I always go by my gut."
"So, my gut feeling was right and you are manipulating Twilight." He said.
"Yes. You are a clever baby dragon for following your gut. And you are not going to tell any pony."
"Well, as I'm sure you heard, no pony would believe me anyways so you got your wish I guess. And I'm not a baby. I'm a preteen at best. You can tell by my clear sentences and wings." Black Rose ignored this.
"Whatever. For now no pony may believe you. But like Rainbow Hooves said, if you pray and a miracle happens, well, I wouldn't want to take any chances of that happening. So you're now trapped, like Twilight and all of her friends will soon be as well." Both Spike and Rainbow Hooves gasped.
"You can't do that, Black Rose!" Rainbow Hooves told her firmly.
"Oh, I can and will. This is my book after all. I can do whatever I want."
"No you can't. In order for any pony to come here, they would have to want to be here."
"Oh, they will. Trust me. Twilight especially. And as soon as I trap her, her friends will wonder where she is and look at this book."
"What will make you think they'll think Twilight's trapped in here?" Black Rose seemed to be annoyed.
"I told you to trust me that they will if they listened to this dragon. They might not have believed him, but if they're out of options on where she might be, they'll look at this book." She looked at Spike again. "You may not have known it, but you helped me little baby dragon, so I thank you for that." Spike was mad at her now.
"My name is Spike." He began. "And I told you I'm not a baby. How are you going to stop me?" She looked at him with a playful grin.
"Because only I can activate the portal that can get you in and out of this book." Spike realized that she was right.
"Oh, darn. You're right. So me trying to fly trying to find the portal wouldn't have worked."
"Hang on." Rainbow Hooves said. "Your parents are characters in the book, They can portal Spike home."
"Uh, are you sure you should be telling me that when Black Rose is present?" Spike asked.
"That may be true." Black Rose told Rainbow Hooves, ignoring Spike. "But you forgot that I brainwashed them like every other pony here."
"Aha!" Spike blurted out. "So you admitted it. You brainwashed all of your so called 'friends.'" Black Rose looked at Spike.
"Of course I did. How else will any pony be my friend?"
"Well, I'm here to say that you need to stop and let these ponies go home. I know you want friends, but there's a much better way to do it. This isn't the way."
"It is for me. It's the only way that I know how."
"You're only doing this for you. Not for other ponies. You have to think of how other ponies feel. You shouldn't force them to be your friend. It isn't right." Black Rose scoffed.
"And why not?"
"Well, like I said, you should consider their feelings. You may be happy, but are they?"
"Of course they are. I haven't heard a single complaint."
"I complained." Rainbow Hooves put in. "I complained a lot."
"And the reason the other ponies don't complain is because you brainwashed them." Spike added. "You made them think that this is okay and this is how friendship works. It's not and you need to unbrainwash them before it's too late."
"And what if I don't?" Spike sighed, This was hard for him to say, but he did.
"Then you don't." Black Rose was shocked to hear this. "I'm not going to force you to do something that you don't want to do. You're your own pony. Just maybe think it over."
"Okay. I thought it over."
"Yep. Since you and Rainbow Hooves clearly think I'm a threat, I'm sending you both to the friend jail." Both Rainbow Hooves and Spike gasped.
"What?! Friend jail? Those words shouldn't be mixed I feel like."
"Until you two are ready to be my friends, you two will be locked up."
"What?! You can't do that."
"It's too late. I already called the police."
"Well, we're going to leave before they get here, so come on Rainbow Hooves and let's get ou…"
"Too late." Rainbow Hooves said looking at angry blue colored police ponies "They're already here." Spike looked at the officers.
"Hey, officers. This here is a very bad pony. She's…" He then frowned when he realized it wasn't working. "I know. I know. You're brainwashed so you don't believe me. Great, Just great."
"You know what to do, officers." Black Rose said to them.
Spike and Rainbow Hooves both were locked up in the friend jail. Black Rose stood before them. The officers had left.
"I really wish that it didn't have to be this way." Black Rose spoke up. "But you leave me no choice. It is what it is. Like I said before, you will get out when you decide to be my friend."
"When Twilight sees what you've done," Spike told her. "...She'll finally see the pony that you really are." Black Rose looked at him.
"That may be, but hopefully it won't be as bad and we can remain friends. You both can stay here and pretty soon, her entire kingdom will come and be my friend."
"That'll never happen. Not the way that you are planning anyways."
"We'll see." Next, she looked at Rainbow Hooves. "I'm very disappointed in you Rainbow Hooves and should have had you jailed up long ago, but it's better late than never I suppose."
"You will never get away with this, Black Rose." Rainbow Hooves said to her. "For the last time, this isn't right, and deep down, you know that. I know you do."
""Oh, Rainbow Hooves, why do you have to be this way? Why? You're only making it harder for yourself."
"No, I'm not. If you just open your eyes and think this though." She did an annoyed sigh.
"I already did and I'm not changing. You two will have to. In the meantime, I'm afraid you guys are stuck here. Goodbye. I'll go tell the officers you will see me once you have come to your senses and will become my friend and live here forever." She then left.
Spike pulled on the bars and had no luck. He looked at Rainbow Hooves for assistance.
"Any way out of here?" He asked.
"You're the dragon." The pony stated. "Can't you melt the bars with your fire breath or something?" Spike realized that he was right.
"You're right." He smacked himself on the head, "Sorry. I'm with ponies too much that I sometimes forget my dragon powers. Gah, I'm such a dummy."
"That's okay. As long as you see it now. It's better to realize it now, than not at all."
"Quite right. Okay, I'm going to do it." With a deep breath, Spike did his fire breath on the bars and moments later, they were melted. "See? No problem. We're free to go." And so, pony and dragon made their escape.
